okotorigba: An industrialist, Chief Eric Umeofia, has called on wealthy Nigerians to complement government’s efforts to alleviate the post COVID-19 economic hardship in the country.
Umeofia made the call in a statement in Lagos on Monday, where he announced a N100 million donation to 1000 indigent natives of his Amichi Community in Anambra.
He stated that the donation was his contribution toward poverty reduction and alleviation of economic hardship in the area.
Umeofia, who is the Chief Executive Officer, Erisco Bonpet Group, stated that the gesture was the first phase of his endowment programme to empower the people of his community.
He described the initiative as part of the activities to mark the 40th anniversary of the group and 10 years of Erisco Foods Ltd.
“The motive behind the benevolence is basically to lift many people from my community out of poverty due to the post COVID-19 challenges.
“It is also in line with my original vision of creating jobs, alleviating poverty through youths and women empowerment,” Umeofia stated.
He also stated that the initiative was to complement the Federal Government’s efforts geared toward economic revitalisation, job creation and poverty reduction.
He said that 51 people, including widows, received N1 million each, while other beneficiaries got N100,000 and N50,000 each to support their businesses.
“I urge well-meaning Nigerians to extend similar gestures to their various communities in order to lift many people out of poverty and revive the nation’s economy,” he stated.
The philanthropist further stated that Erisco Foods donated food items, worth over N100 million, to the Nigerian military and internally displaced persons in different camps across the country.
He said that the company also donated COVID-19 palliatives to Lagos and Anambra governments.
He promised that similar gestures would be extended to other states of the federation, as part of the activities to mark the company’s anniversary.
“It is our own support to complement federal and state governments’ initiatives to empower Nigerians,” Umeofia said.

sunbreaker: Two years ago they said Igbo doesn't had interest to become president other than succession. What happen now? You know deep down inside you that it'll not work for now and continuously denying the Igbos the No. 1 seat will inadvertently brew disaffection amongst young Igbos. That's why the ranks of Ipob will continue to swell. It's not the best for the Nigerian society. |

Arrewa: stop associating me with any moniker on Nairaland.
As for igbo presidency I have never for once speak against igbos contesting for presidency.
My position is clear...
The north will never vote an igbo man.
It's not hatred... But Reciprocation. Reciprocate what exactly? Does the word Justice and equity mean something to you? What goes around should come around. If one prosperous Nigeria is something we cherish, I think it's time we'll Nigerians should show it through our actions and not mere rhetorics. In the absence of a restructured Nigeria, zoning should be the order of the day and the destination of the presidential baton should be in the South East. |

BabaOwen: Is there right to hold the rally. Just as is the right of other southerners to compete for the presidency in 2023. In the interest of equity and good conscience, rotational presidency is the only thing that will maintain a balance in the already overheated polity. What's good for the goose is also good for the gander. |

Don't mind the evil people, I have asked them to check out their communities to see if Igbos are constituting nuisance there. I am usually scared of most Nigerians, you can never know their heart. Most people are just wicked and envious for no reason. See the way they are all masturbating on the crises happening in Rivers state. Rather for them to think on how to make their tribe proud, they prefer to sleep on Igbo matter. God help them. God help us all. The matter is gradually getting out of hand. But who God has blessed, no man can curse! |

No need to argue, Igbos are very peaceful people. Check out your neighborhood and see the evidence of Igbos, they are doing their normal hustle minding their business while contributing to the economy of the area. It is not pure envy and wickedness that fuel the attack on Igbos daily on nairaland? A lot of people are secretly wishing the Igbos in Rivers state crises are wiped out totally if possible with atomic bomb. Energy that should be geared towards profitable venture like #RestructureNigeriaNow, is being wasted here with rubbish talk of Igbo this and Igbo that. It's unfortunate! Igbos are peaceful people and if anybody thinks otherwise, God please forgive them because it's ignorance at work. |

This is trash talk aimed at disintegrating the south. princeadams11: We are not talking about the north here bro, we are talking abt Nigeria and this is because the government has so much focussed its attention to crude oil exploration and decided to abandoned other vital sectors in the country. For instance, Botswana's major source of revenue is COW exportation. Dont you think we will achieve better as a country if the government looks into other sectors. There is no state in this country that has no form of resources that can generate more revenue to our dear nation. What we need to do is to forget abt north, east or south and focused on Nigeria. Lets not get divided by religion and culture because wen u look at things as a whole, we are all human beings. You are a christain or muslim not by choice but because u were born into a christain or muslim family. So lets drop tribe, region and religion aside and think like human beigns bro. Cheers Your contribution is apt, but we are dealing with people who feels that because of their large landmass which culminates to an overbloated population have the birthright to managing Nigeria solely for their on interest. |

There is/was absolutely no need to start playing ethnic or state card on this topic. Get the gist before Rushing to comment. Soyinka was right afterall. It a generation of first to comment. Feel sorry for those that played that ethnic card here. If a people decides to use something good "landmass" as a tool of oppression, it then becomes a mandate for all loves of justice to differentiate mediocrity from substance. |
