Education / House Of Reps Orders JAMB To Extend 2017 UTME Registration Deadline by ChikaMaLaKai(m): 8:33am On Apr 05, 2017 |
The House of Representatives has called on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB to extend the registration deadline for the registration of 2017 UTME. This came after the motion raised by Danburan Nuhu (Kano-APC). According to Mr. Nuhu during the 2016 UTME exercise, about 1.6 million applicants registered for the UTME and about one million passed. He stated that the 2017 exercise might reach 2 million across the country given the growing number of applicants. He noted that some of the approved registration centres are registering only 250 applicants at a time; most of them do not have enough space and adequate number of computers. He urged JAMB to specify the requirements including safety measures, that approved centres need to have to participate in the conduct of UTME Computer Based Test and ensure to deploy safety equipment to each centre to forestall any incidence of stampede due to overcrowding. The motion was unanimously adopted by the House and the committee on basic education was mandated to direct JAMB to comply with the resolutions. The JAMB had earlier stated that it has no plans of extending the registration deadline but with this development, let's watch how it all plays out. Education / Matriculated Students In Any Institution Are Not Allowed To Take UTME by ChikaMaLaKai(m): 11:46am On Apr 04, 2017 |
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation
Board (JAMB) has stated that candidates
who are already matriculated students of
any tertiary institution are not allowed to
site for UTME.
He made this know during a phone
conversation with newsmen on Monday.
According to him, "Students with
matriculation numbers of universities are
not eligible to sit for the UTME. If they
are not satisfied with their chosen
disciplines, they can ask for transfer."
On the issues of extension of deadline
due to hitches, he said, “We registered
600,000 candidates in 10 days and if we
go on at this pace, it means we would
have registered 1.2million in 20 days. We
want Nigerians to be patient and every
eligible candidate will be registered by
April 19, when the registration will close." |
