According to Akah, who spoke at a seminar on energy efficiency in Abuja said the programme became necessary due to the serious challenge of high estimated billing and poor metering by the Distribution Companies (Discos) as well as low power generation. We have put measures in place to accelerate metering through close monitoring of the Discos’ metering roll out plan. The Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose thought his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, has advice the people of Edo State to give their votes to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu come Saturday. Fayose, in his statement said "Edo people should not make the same mistake Nigerians made last year by enthroning the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of President Mohammadu Buhari.” He asked people of Edo State to be extra vigilant before, during and after the election. That they should not just vote and go to sleep, they must make sure that their votes count and victory is ensured for Pastor Ize-Iyamu who is unarguably the best among the contenders. Fayose said “party sentiment apart, Pastor Ize-Iyamu has campaigned through the nooks and crannies of Edo State to sell his visions and missions to the people of the State and anyone who saw the Channels Television debate on Sunday will agree with me that Pastor Ize-Iyamu is better equipped for the governance of Edo State.” He added that: “If you believe in me and you are a voter in Edo State, give your vote to Pastor Ize-Iyamu, the man who has demonstrated the required capacity to lead Edo State to prosperity.” Opportunity to choose comes once in four years and the people of Edo State must grab this opportunity to change the fortune of the State for the better, he said. Fayose said , Edo people should be rest assured that Nigerians are now looking for a more meaningful change that is better than the APC’s one chance change and Pastor Ize-Iyamu represents that meaningful change in Edo State. http://www.latestandtrending.com/2016/09/fayose-advice-edo-people-vote-pastor.html?m=1

The Federal Government in a bid to achieve it promised change has said that its affordable housing schemes will soon transform thousands of Nigerians from being tenants to proud owners of houses and plots of land. According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Malam Garba Shehu, made this known in Abuja on Monday. He said the affordable housing scheme operated through the mortgage banking system was part of the programmes meant to uplift the quality of lives of the citizens. Shehu said that the Buhari-led administration had so far released N74 billion as part of capital allocations in the last three months. He stated in the statement that more of the capital allocations will soon be released to revitalise the economy. “Most of our road contractors had not been paid since 2012, many of them had sent their workers away adding to the unemployment problem. Shehu said Federal Government has released capital allocations in the last three months that is more than the whole of 2015. “In 2015 Nigeria spent a paltry N19 billion on roads, in three months we have spent N74 billion and we are already releasing more. He reacted to negative comments on the nation’s economy in some quarters, noted that the Federal Government had expended N26 billion in the transport sector in the last few months. He promise that the government would start a concession that would revive the nation’s rail system for freight. Shehu said the hope that the movement of goods, particularly foodstuff through the rail system would reduce the cost of food items across market places in the country. “In the transport sector in 2015, government spent just N4.2 billion; and have spent N26 billion with more to follow. The government will starting a concession that will revive our old rail system for freight, whilst we build a new high speed rail system. “Moving heavy goods by rail will reduce our transport costs which will reduce food prices and will save our roads from damage from heavy loads.’’ Shehu also said government will embrace the private sector through PPP, concessions and other collaborations to deliver services and infrastructure efficiently. He maintained that the government was working hard to do things right and do them in a manner that would endure, adding that, “no government has ever considered the poor like this one. Under the current budget, the administration devoted N500 billion for social intervention programmes for those who need and deserve support. “Any process that will endure, must involve some pain but things will begin to improve. There is always a time lag between policy and effect. That is why the bad effects of past policies are manifesting now. “Similarly, the positive impact of the work being undertaken to fix Nigeria’s problems will soon begin to show and we will emerge from this period stronger, wiser and more prosperous. “There is hope for Nigeria, a hope that was previously clouded by corruption, greed and lack of focus. “Nigeria is starting over and everyone has a role to play. http://www.latestandtrending.com/2016/09/thousands-nigerian-tenants-to-become.html?m=1 |

A Smuggler operating at the Badagry-Seme border has tried to trick the operatives of the Nigeria Customs by packaging smuggled rice as dead bodies. The leader of the mobile patrol team, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Mr. Ozah M., said the patrol team noticed the frequency with which the ambulance was patronising the international route with the said ‘dead body,’ a development they thought was becoming alarming. The patrol team stopped the ambulance, a Volvo with number plates DV 74 EKY, for proper check. It was discovered that the ambulance was carrying eleven bags of imported rice that was carefully arranged and wrapped as corpses, leading to the arrest of a suspected smuggler, Mr. Moses Degbogbahun, who brought in the commodity. The management of Seme Command, however, warned that no amount of smuggling antics along Seme border route will go undetected by the eagle eyes of officers and men of the Command. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Taupyen Selchang, said the suspect was still undergoing investigation for possible prosecution. http://www.latestandtrending.com/2016/09/a-smuggler-arrested-for-smuggling-bags.html?m=1
