Politics / Goodluck And Dame Patience Jonathan Are Not Being Persecuted By FG - Lai M. by chimoskyg(m): 4:04pm On Sep 14, 2016
The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that the President Muhammadu Buhari, led administration is not persecuting Ex President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience.

Authority reports that Lai Mohammed, made this known in an interview with journalists in Oro, Kwara State, on Tuesday, saying it would be wrong to submit that the Federal Government was probing Goodluck Jonathan or his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan.

Adding that:

“If you look at the history of Mrs. Patience Jonathan’s issue, I think she was the one that came out to claim that the money found in the accounts of one of the aides to the Ex President, her husband, belonged to her''.

It was not the EFCC that claimed so. She claimed that the money that the guy was being prosecuted for belonged to her. It was only then they later found an extra $5m in another account. it is not as if anybody has gone out to probe Mrs. Jonathan directly or indirectly.

Rather Mrs. Jonathan was the one that said ‘that money for which you are accusing Mr. X actually belongs to me. So, you cannot start talking of prosecution or persecution.

He also said; People have always said that no APC politician had been investigated. The question is ‘those who are those being prosecuted today, for what reasons are they being prosecuted?

“It is wrong to say that the government is only investigating and prosecuting PDP members. We have not even started investigating the oil and gas industry.

However, it is not about going out to investigate PDP. No! We lost about 15,000 people. Nobody can, in honesty, accuse the Federal Government of being one sided.

Politics / The Charge For Unity And MASSOB 17th Anniversary Celebration by chimoskyg(m): 9:08am On Sep 14, 2016
Following the President Muhammad Buhari charge for unity and one Nigeria, that the indivisibility of the country under his watch is inviolate.

The MASSOB, which celebrated its 17th anniversary in Awka, capital of Anambra State, yesterday appeared oblivious of the presidential charge, as the group said that it was sure it would achieve an independent state of Biafra without firing a shot.

According to a statement by Mazi Stephen Okonkwo and Comrade Ugochukwu Onyema, Coordinator and Secretary of the group respectively in the state, said the group’s members were ready to commit their lives to the struggle for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra through non-violence.

It dismissed claims of splinter groups from it, saying that such confusion was orchestrated by its former leader, Chief Ralph Uwazurike, who had been expelled from the body by members who were disenchanted by his leadership style.

Okonkwo said "17 years of our long walk to freedom can never be jeopardized, compromised or corrupted,” it said, adding that: “The reformation and rededication of our new leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu, has brought back our lost confidence and trust on Biafra actualization.

The 17 years celebrations rebound in Ikom, Cross River State as its members took to the streets of the sleepy town in commemoration of the founding of the group.

The pro-Biafra agitators, in their great numbers settled in Ikom town in the early hours of the morning from Ogoja, Ugep, Obubra, Obudu, Abi and other parts of the state, gathered close to the Ikom township stadium before embarking on a peaceful procession through some major streets of the commercial town.

Many MASSOB members were seen dressed in uniforms, and waving flags symbolising Biafra, sang pro-Biafran songs and the Biafran anthem as they marched peacefully during the short street work which took them through Okomo Layout to 4-Corners, about 400 metres from where they took off.

The Cross River State Zonal Leader of MASSOB, Samuel Okah, who led the street march said the event marked 17 years of peaceful struggle for the actulisation of Biafra as a nation for the people of the defunct eastern region of Nigeria.

“It has been 17 years of peaceful agitation by the people of Biafra led by Chief Ralph Uwazurike; and we are making steady progress for the coming to fruition of our efforts which is a clear demonstration of the fact that peaceful efforts get more mileage than violence,” Okah said.

He said there was nothing anybody could do to stop the actualisation of the Biafra nation because its time had come.

Okah added its was high time President Buhari allowed people agitating for self-rule to go and chart a course for themselves as new nations.

Music/Radio / Tupac Amaru Shakur, 20 Years Ago, Career Just Beginning by chimoskyg(m): 8:15am On Sep 14, 2016
Today marks 20 years from history, the hip-hop icon Tupac Amaru Shakur was fatally gunned down in Las Vegas.

Forbes reports that despite the late rapper’s popularity and larger-than-life persona at the time of his death, many believed his career was just beginning.

According to records his fourth album, All Eyez On Me, was released seven months prior to his passing, and produced two chart-topping singles; the album officially reached diamond status in the US in July 2014.

While in 2010, Shakur’s estate earned $3.5 million by FORBES’ estimate, part of the cash has come from synch licenses in a list of films, TV shows and video games, Forbes said.

Following the decline on the importance of its pioneers by hip-hop culture, Shakur’s legacy seems to only increase with each generation. According to Spotify, his channel has attracted over 4 million monthly listeners, and the posthumous album 2Pac Greatest Hits has been streamed over 1 billion times. His accomampaying Facebook page boasts over 20 million likes, and at the time of writing, there were over 220,000 mentions of Tupac (including Tupac Shakur and 2 Pac) on Twitter within the past 24 hours alone.

Before his solo career took off, Shakur served as a roadie, backup dancer and emcee in the hip-hop group, Digital Underground. In 1992 he added “actor” to his resume as the star of the film Juice, which pulled in over $20 million in the box office. He then starred alongside Janet Jackson in 1993 in the romantic drama Poetic Justice, which grossed over $27 million.

Forbes gathered that before his incarcerated for a sexual assault case in 1995, it was reported that Death Row Records agreed to post Shakur’s bail in exchange for a three-album, $3.5 million contract; however, the rapper was rumored to be in debt to the label at the time of his death, despite selling $60 million worth of albums.

Many letters that the rapper had written during his time spent at Clinton Correctional Facility were auctioned off last year; the top-selling letter went for $15,000.

The monetary gains aside, Shakur’s mother, Afeni, carried on her son’s estate by creating the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation in order “to provide training and support for students who aspire to enhance their creative talents.

Politics / Forget The Struggle, Buhari Tells Biafra Agitators by chimoskyg(m): 7:41am On Sep 14, 2016
The separatists agitating for the independent state of Biafra in the South-east of Nigeria have been told by President Buhari to forget the thought, adding that the indivisibility of the country under his watch is inviolate.

Buhari who spoke yesterday from his resident in Daura, Katsina State home while receiving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the town, told them that in spite of the failure of leadership that engendered feelings of alienation, particularly in the South-eastern flank of the country, Nigeria was still big enough for all its people to live happily together.

He advised NYSC members from the South-east serving in Daura to tell their colleagues agitating for Biafra to forget it.

He also urge the country’s youths to make Nigeria great again through the pursuit of knowledge, patriotism and commitment to values that promote national unity. Saying that those asking for Biafra should forget about it, that Nigeria is big enough for all and it resources abound.

This agitations are mostly carried out by young people in the South-east, for a separate state of Biafra. Made up of two groups — The Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)

According to a statement released by the president Senior Special Assistant on Media, Malam Shehu Garba, reads; separation was not the answer to their grievances, telling them that the nation had passed that route before with dire consequences.
“As a military commander, I walked from Degema, a border town between the North and the East, to the border between Cameroun and Nigeria. I walked on my feet for most of the 30 months that we fought the Nigeria-Biafra civil war, in which at least 2 million Nigerians were killed,” he relived the experience to the about 100 corps members that came to visit him.

He said: “We were made by our leaders to go and fight Biafra not because of money or oil, because oil was not critical factor then, but because of one Nigeria.
“So if leaderships at various levels failed, it was not the fault of the rest of Nigerians who have no quarrel with one another.

“So please tell your colleagues that we must be together to build this country. It is big enough for us and potentially big enough in terms of resources.

“Those who work hard will earn a respectable living. I have seen this country, I fought for this country and I will continue to work for the unity of this country.” the president said.

Buhari urged the corps members to remain focused in life, pursue their dreams and reject those fanning the embers of discord and disintegration of Nigeria.

The president specially recognised corps members from the Niger Delta and South-eastern states serving in Daura and praised the vision of former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), in setting up the scheme in 1973.
He said the scheme had promoted national unity and cohesion creditably by exposing young people to the uniqueness and cultural diversity of Nigeria.

“I asked for those from the other extreme of Nigeria because I very much appreciate the NYSC scheme and whenever I see General Gowon, I always thank him for that,’’ he added.

The Corps Liaison Officer in Daura, Mr. Egbewumi Adebolu, thanked the president for the honour of receiving them and making their stay in Daura memorable.
He added that the youths strongly believed in the programme of the president to reduce unemployment and create jobs for more Nigerians.

Adebolu thanked the president for his personal gifts of cows, bags of rice and cash to corps members in the community for Salah celebration.

Politics / INEC Has Shifted Edo Guber Election To September 28 by chimoskyg(m): 7:13am On Sep 09, 2016
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has shifted the governorship election in Edo State schedule on Saturday 10 to Wednesday, September 28.

While announcing the shift in the election date, the National Commissioner, Voter Education and Publicity of INEC, Prince Solomon Soyebi, said the Commission insisted on September 10 earlier scheduled because no official communication was received from security agencies.

Soyebi said the Commision received official communication from security agencies at about 6:00pm on Thursday, drawing the Commission’s attention to the importance of postponing the election following threats of terrorists’ activities in Edo and other states.

He said: “The communication indicates that deployment of security personnel across the country to secure lives and property would over stretch their capacity while at the same time providing adequate security for the election.

INEC has therefore consider the request of the security agencies and considering the security implications of proceeding with the election, the safety of eligible voters, electoral officials including ad hoc staff and other stakeholders, has decided to reschedule the Edo Governorship election to Wednesday, September 28, 2016.

Agriculture / Nigeria Has Gain From The €13.1bn Honeybee Project by chimoskyg(m): 6:45am On Sep 09, 2016
From Abuja, African Union Inter-Bureau for Animal Resources, yesterday 9, 2016 launched Nigerian Apiculture platform as part of its 13.1 billion Euros bee project in Africa.

At the time of the launching, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, said the honeybee industry was identified as one of the key area that needed economic diversification.

Ogbeh states that, “Global honey yield is estimated at 1.4 million tonnes annually costing about $7 billion.

Therefore, the honeybee industry could contribute to increase agricultural productivity and food security by more than a third through pollination.”

He said about 20,000 beehives would be distributed to farmers this year, adding that the market for the bee products was huge globally.

We have great potential for a vibrant apiculture industry in Nigeria, he said

Honeybee industry can be very profitable as the country aim at diversifying the economy.
But the sector still remains widely untapped as most beekeepers in the rural areas still use outdated techniques of setting fire in production process, he added.

Ogbeh said “Since the inception of this administration, the apiculture sector has been given special attention by the ministry with an Inter-Ministerial Technical Working Committee on honey production and bee health in place.

NAN gathered that “The Bees Importation Act of 2004 is being reviewed by the National Assembly to protect and strengthen local apiculture industry with a budget in the ministry to address developmental issues relating its operation.”

Ogbeh appreciate AU-IBAR continuous support to the government, calling for more support with relevant stakeholders at the Federal, State and Local level in the interest of the industry.

According to the Director of African Union’s Inter-African Union Bureau for Animal Resources, Dr Simplice Mouaba, said the money was a support by the European Union to develop honeybee in Africa.

Mouaba, urged the Federal Government to take ownership of the project because the industry had huge potential for job creation.
