Nairaland / General / Lagos – Ibadan Expressway Fire Explosion – The Menace Behind It by Chinoy: 1:37pm On Jul 03, 2018
The Otedola bridge Lagos Ibadan expressway fire that occurred on Friday the 29th day of June, 2018 gulfed the lives of many people. Many are still in the hospital battling for their lives. It was so sad even as vehicles packed alongside the road whose owners entered offices or are nearby were also wrecked by the fire.

People frantically looked for their loved ones among the ruins while some are still waiting for their relatives to return home from their work or business places since Friday; all to no avail. From our source, it was established the tanker failed brake and exploded immediately thereby killing many people of which nine figure reported was a farce. It really called for good roads in Nigeria and it goes a long way to show Nigerians and the world at large that the Ministries or government parastatals responsible for cars or vehicles worthiness are not doing their jobs.

The problem of Nigeria is not President Muhammed Buhari. I am not a fan of the President and I never voted for him because I believe he is too old to occupy that seat but the truth remains that civil servants are the core problems we have in Nigeria. The tanker that exploded on Friday should have been off the road long ago and this mishap would have been avoided if the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) or Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) did their normal routine checks without collecting bribe. Eye witnesses attested the vehicle was in a very bad shape and it was still day light when it was conveying fuel to an unknown destination before the unfortunate incident occured. Did the Federal Road Safety and Vehicle Inspection Office staff not intercept and stop it. I bet they did, as they are everywhere. Obviously, the driver tipped them and off he went to massacre people. Bribery and corruption is the other of the day and it can never be taken away from the civil servants in Nigeria.

The truth of the matter is that Nigerian economy has been thriving and booming on corruption in the past. It is an order of the day. It is a norm. It is a culture. It has come to stay. The current regime of President Buhari is not favouring them, therefore he must vacate his position. That is the main reason why many Nigerians especially the civil servants never see anything good in President Buhari’s government. Why? PMB tightened up those loose ends and sealed off all loopholes where millions and trillions of naira are being siphoned daily. If all of us should manage our small tables and offices without stealing government money and materials, Nigeria will be a better country. No wonder a relative that lived in the United Kingdom told me that “even if they (United Kingdom) stands still for two hundred years without putting up any infrastructure, Nigeria will never catch up. What an irony. It is fact. Why will an old rickety worn out fuel tanker as witnessed by people still be on the road if proper vehicle road worthiness was done. Of course, money (not power this time) have changed hands and business continued as usual. At the end of the day, it was to the detriment of innocent souls that lost their lives as they were going about their daily activities. Hear the testimonies of eye witnesses below that saw what happened on the road and judge yourself why such tanker is still on the road. It was embarrassing and appalling that a road safety official on duty that pleaded not to be identified saw the tanker before it exploded and never raised alarm. He has himself to blame for the rest of his lives.

“Another road safety official, who asked not to be identified, added: “The blame for this accident should be put on the driver and the owner of the vehicle. “People don’t keep their vehicles in good condition.” Bolarinwa Dolarinwa Mufutau, a roadside mechanic, said he had just finished repairing a car when he saw the tanker rolling back on the road. “I could also hear the driver shouting ‘brake failure, brake failure’. I saw the motor boy (assistant) trying to put a wedge to stop the tanker from rolling back,” he told AFP. “But the truck ran over the wedge backwards and immediately there was a bang. I thought it was a bomb and there was an explosion and fire everywhere, so I started running away.” Fire erupted within seconds, forcing motorists to abandon their cars and flee, he added” - Vanguard

After the deed has been done, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, the FRSC Head of Public Education, stated that trainings and re-trainings should be conducted for members of NUPENG in other to help minimize accidents. He should start the training and retraining from his office. He should train his subordinates on the importance and need to live up to expectations while on duty. He should retrain them to know that taking and abating bribe can cause lives as what happened on Friday 29th June, 2018 and it may be the lives of their loved ones. Why should Mr. Bisi Kazeem call for urgent need for government and stakeholders’ meeting? Why is he calling on government to initiate policy in reducing excesses on the road? Did he just wake up from slumber? Who are the government? The government is you and I. The meeting should start from us. PMB cannot be everywhere at the same time. The sooner we get to manage our corner of offices effectively and truthfully, the sooner all these problems will stop.

I believe corruption will end when civil servants stop inflating bills used to travel for official assignments when putting in claims. Why will corruption stop when stationeries supplied to government ministries and parastatals today disappear the following day because there is a cohort to sell it out and share the money. No wonder, one never gets free pens and papers to write in police stations. You must pay because the IPO handling your case claims to borrow it from the next department. When you go to that same department, they also claim to borrow from God-knows where. Why will corruption stop when prepaid meters are tampered and disconnected with daily. The Electricity officials are trained and re-trained to know when a meter is not working and charge the customer accordingly with huge fine for tampering with government property. They will never, rather they ask for settlement to avoid task force taking over the matter. It is bribery and corruption. They aid in disconnecting the meter from reading while they collect huge sums from the masses to avoid recharging their light and so divert government resources to their personal purse. Why will corruption stop when a civil servant refuses to go to work for weeks and weeks because nothing is happening, there is no money or Ghana-must-go to go home with. And government still pays for those sit-down at home days, while resources are being wasted.

Why will corruption stop when results of intelligent children that passed into federal universities, Colleges like Navy, Command and Airforce are sold to the children of the la crème de la crème that did not do well. Who are the ones selling the results of the less privileged? I bet you know, the Civil servants. Why will corruption stop when there is never drugs in government hospitals. Of course, drugs are supplied to their pharmacies to be sold to patients at cheaper and subsidized rate. The hospital officials sold them to big time pharmaceutical shops where you buy them at a higher rate. A story was told of one gynaecologist medical doctor under government payroll. It happened that he sends his patients out of the hospital for scanning to a particular Clinic. It was found out that he gets a share from each scanning he referred to that clinic. It was a good patriotic citizen that found out why patients troop outside to scan while there was scanning machine in the hospital. Is it not diverting government resources to personal purse. Of course, the gynaecologist was called up to panel and questioned. There was enough evidence against him as folders of all his patients bore their scan reports from was called up to panel and questioned. There was enough evidence against him as folders of all his patients bore their scan reports from outside clinics with his appended signature. Is it now President Buhari’s regime?. No, Nigeria problem is the civil servants. Nigerians lost prominent people in the ill-fated Dana Air Flight that crashed in Lagos. Sources have it that Fire Service officials could not bring water to put off the fire. They claimed there was no fuel to move their tank while at every beginning of month, they send in their requirements for work. No wonder like the police, you must fuel their car if they are going to arrest somebody you reported before they will move. The problem is the civil servants.

Suffice it to say we claim we need dividends of democracy. Dividends of democracy is not manna that will fall from heaven. Where will government get money to provide good roads, good facilities and amenities for citizens when the so-called resources have been stolen. It is high time Nigerian citizens especially, I mean most especially civil servants stop blaming PMB and take on responsibility for their actions. I commiserate with the families that lost their loved ones and pray the good Lord give them the fortitude to bear the loss. It is well with them.

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR SPOUSE?
It is a well known fact that most couples claim to know their spouse like the back of their hands. Some could go as far as telling you in detail what their spouse loves in terms of food, colour, sizes in shoes and clothes, their dislikes and mood swings. When the chips are down, you hear same spouse

screaming their heads off that they do not know their partner could go do this or that or go to such length. In some cases, some spouses do know their each other to the extent that when they tell you, this is how my husband/wife will react in certain conditions, or handle some matters in certain ways, it is the absolute truth. It is so pathetic that some spouse do not even know who they sleep with daily. They may be nonchalant and since they are married, there is no point in studying or getting to know each other. How well do you know your spouse?

With the increasing alarming rate of killing one’s spouse, it leaves no stone unturned that the victims do not know their spouses well enough before entering into relationship. A man that beats a lady black and blue during courtship will definitely kill her if they get married. There is nothing like “I will change him” or “he will change” or “It is just a matter of time and prayer ”... In as much as God answers prayers, I hope you will be alive to see your prayers answered because if you are six feet under, it will make no impact and you will be singing “had I known, I would have been wiser”. What makes you think you can change an adult and perfect the work his parents could not do. If he/she cannot work on self to be a good or better person, what makes you think you can do the miracle. It is not easy to bend an adult. You must wear perseverance like khaki cloth if that is the path you choose to thread. No wonder, so many heads are rolling in the quest to stay married.
Domestic violence cuts across the globe. In the olden days, men were noted for being easily provoked, violent and man handling their spouse at the slightest opportunity. It was rare to hear that a woman killed her husband. In this computer age , the reverse is the case. Women have grown wings. They have become wiser. They have become learned, even competing and dominating in jobs meant only for men. There are women commercial drivers, engineers, architects, lawyers and so on. They have been empowered and in the process many of them become violent and hard hearted than men.

A woman will serve delicious poisonous food with a straight face with the intention to kill her man. She may be dating a younger man outside and needs absolute freedom to frolic with him and go and come as she so desire. The husband or partner has become a stumbling block and need to be eliminated either by crook or force. Another thing that can trigger killing the spouse is if she finds out he is cheating on her. Most women can not bear the pain. They will resort to killing in other to save their honour. And the spouse will never in his wildest imagination envisage being eliminated by his partner.

Research show that women that murders their men are usually the ones who picked the guys and do thorough clean up on them. The guys agree to marriage so that they can see daily food and some coins to throw around. When you evaluate such relationship, you see that there is no love lost between them. In such cases, the woman is desperate for marriage and the guy being the next available man, before you say “jack”, they are walking down the aisle. If the woman suspects, investigates and find out the man is cheating, you can never imagine what she is capable of doing. It is said that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Such women are capable of killing and it is my candid advice that their husbands should be wise and know when not to cross the boundary. Celebrities / Tribute To Joe Jackson by Chinoy: 12:27pm On Jun 28, 2018
Joseph Walter Jackson, descendant of African and Native American Ancestry, father to late Pop Star Michael Jackson, was born to Samuel Jackson on July 26, 1928. He was confirmed and reported dead in the early morning hours of June 27, 2018.

In as much as his image was tarnished by the media’s stories of his being abusive towards his children, one should not fail to admit that he succeeded in raising singers among whom was the biggest pop star of all time – Late Michael Joseph Jackson.

Joseph Walter Jackson was strict and the incessant disciplinary treatment meted towards his children contributed to their success. I remembered one of the interviews of his late son Michael with Oprah Winfrey, he spoke about childhood, how Joe abused him, the constant name-callings and whooping. He also attested that his father’s constant abuse made him what he was.

That was when I fell in love in Joe Jackson. As I listened to Michael, I thought to myself, “that is a man who did not believe in just talking to children to get things properly done. That is a man who did not believe in spoiling the rod and sparing the child. That is a real man. To me, he knew where he was going, his interest is not only to bring children to the world, his interest lies more in what they will be and alas, did he not succeed? One of his sons became the most popular Pop Singer and person in the whole wide world. We all the know the Legendary Late Michael Joseph Jackson. As an African, I believe solely in disciplining children whenever the need arise. I do beat, I box and depending on the level of what the child did, I do give well deserved punishment.

When I got the news of Joe Jackson’s demise at eighty nine, I wish him rest. At last, he has gone to rest. He came, he conquered and he left. He left indelible foot prints on the sands of time. He left his family with something to always remember. He left the world with something to never forget. That was the exit of an icon.

Joe, as you journeyed to the land of the unknown, I pray God will grant you rest in His bosom in Jesus name, Amen. Lest I forget, say hello to Michael. Tell him the world missed him and have tried all possible best to replace him in the pop music industry with another star but have not succeeded. You thought the world there is dignity in labour, you did not beg to train the numerous children you had. You were a man that knew children needed to be disciplined in other to make them true future leaders of tomorrow.

Rest on Joe, adieu.

Health / Family Planning Devices – The Truth Doctors Will Not Tell You! by Chinoy: 2:20pm On Jun 27, 2018
Do you know that family planning is more harmful to your body than having a baby you did not plan?. Do you know that family planning can lead to terminal disease? Do you know that it can lead to imminent death? Do you know that family planning is not the answer to your having a good home? So much do you know. I bet you already know what it is all about, but let me refresh briefly.
Family planning is the method used in controlling number of children one has and the number of years or spacing it takes in between their births. Family planning can be by contraception or sterilization as the case may be. The different methods of contraception in family planning are the pill which is hormonal contraception, it can also be in form of injection taken monthly, bi-annually, condoms for barrier method and the most popular which is the implant inside the vagina of a woman called the intra uterine device (IUD).

Most women (married and single) are conversant with family planning and its various methods. What most women are not conversant with is the level of danger these methods poses to their health and society at large. The doctors and Big pharmacies down play the disadvantages of family planning in other not to instill fear in their patients and also to amass more wealth from the sales of drugs and services rendered. They counsel you in subtle tones on the need to go in for family planning so that you can keep your man and marriage intact. As if that is what keeps your man at home. A man that is fond of trying anything in skirt can never be satiable. In my own opinion, family planning have caused more harm than good to many women and homes at large. I advise women I come into contact with to try as much as possible to avoid any form of contraception that is not natural method. No wonder the Catholic Church and some Protestant kick against it.

Recently, a friend of mine lost a very close friend to cancer of the uterus as a result of family planning. She had the intra uterine device planted in for years and when she removed it to try for another baby, that was when the problem started. She bled profusely, almost non stop all through the months. All medications given to stop the flow was to no avail. She went from one gynaecologist to another and it was the same old story. That was when it dawned on her that the doctors will not analyze the implications of family planning to you. She battled for life and at the end she did not make it. That is one out of too many women that lost their lives to family planning devices.

Over the years, most women I came across that are into family planning have one complaint or the other. Some said the injection makes them to bloat, putting on unnecessary weight even when they try as much possible to exercise and diet, while some complain of the pills darkening their skin. Some said they come down with pimples, acne and pigmentation all over their faces and skin. While some said that family planning changes their overall system - in the exact words of an acquaintance "this family planning makes me feel like throwing up anytime any thing enters my mouth - water, drink, food etc, it is as if it did not settle well in my tummy" . Of course, I advised she run for her dear life and meet up with her doctor as soon as possible. I was glad she did because they ended up removing the IUD (intra uterine device) and told her to go on natural family planning for a while and she got her life back. A woman complained in the hospital to the hearing of others that the intra uterine device she put does not allow them to enjoy love making. She said she feel pains anytime she has intercourse with her husband... Continued at

Celebrities / D'banj Son's Death - Murder Or.....? by Chinoy: 7:54am On Jun 27, 2018
No parents pray to loose their child or children. Where I come from, it is seen as a taboo. You cannot imagine the pain and agony a parent go through over the loss of a child. It is traumatising, demoralising, painful and unbearable. I have read so many stories surrounding the death of little D'Banj the Third and I pray the Good Lord give the little man peace in His bosom in Jesus name, Amen.

D'Banj the Third came, though briefly but I know his parents and those that knew him will always remember and cherish the beautiful moments spent with him. I do not know D'Banj personally except through television, newspaper, computer or social media, neither do I know the young man who went too soon. As a mother, I felt very bad especially after seeing cute pictures of the late handsome dude and his dad. My heart bled. In as much as it bled, it cannot feel the enormity of pain the D'Banjs are going through. You can never understand how the D'Banjs feel if you have never lost a child before. Sometimes in life, some of us have lost a love or dear one. I am always careful of telling a grieving friend or acquaintance I know how you feel because I can never know how it feel except I have experienced such.

It is not the time to point accusing fingers because the wound is still fresh but I pray that there is a camera in that mansion. I pray D'Banj was wise enough to put CCTV all over the house to see what happens in his house whether he is there or not. I do not know the level of friendship between his guests and his family, but I shudder anytime I remembered that adults were in the house when the young man wandered off on his own. At thirteen months, common sense should have told the guests and nanny that this was a guy that just left the crawling, trying-to-stand on his own and standing alone stage and started walking. As it is normal with every child, there is this freedom in little D'banj to exercise his right;" of ooh, is this me"?. "So I can walk around like mummy and daddy and this big adults". Common sense should have told them that the young man needs to be watched like where a hawk watches its prey.
Back to the guests and nanny, I think D'Banj should allow the police to do their job now that it is still hot. Thorough investigation need to be carried out to determine where and how the boy got to the swimming pool and drowned. I believe there is nanny/nannies in that house whose duty it is to take care of the boy. Where was she/they when the unfortunate incidence happened. It is not enough to think that you have domestic workers, it is not enough to have friends that come to dine and wine with you, it is not enough to entrust your life and property to others. One needs to be careful, very very careful in life. You need to establish the level of trust you can place on people with your lives and properties. Without being told, I know that for Lineo D'banj to leave her house that fateful day to run some errands, she must have entrusted her baby in the care of someone. Only God in heaven knows what transpires in her absence. All in all, the deed has been done. The boy cannot come back to life. The next step is the way forward. Something must be done to the pool immediately to avoid further mishap and bringing up bad memories anytime one dives in for a swim. The domestic workers need to be scrutinized again and background checks run on them. We are not God but that is where the issue of CCTV comes in. After what happened to the two year child in Kenya that the househelp almost killed if not for the help of CCTV, I do ask myself, little D'Banj the Third's death, is it murder or is there more to it that meets the eyes. It is real eye opener for some of us parents whose children are still young. As far as am concerned, CCTV is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
D'Banj, as you grieve, do not close your mind and heart to your surroundings, friends and workers. The Bible said we should not grieve like the unbelievers. St Paul would say in 1 COR 15:19 “ if our hope in Christ is good for this life only and no more, then we deserve more pity than any one else in all the world” Our Lord Jesus Christ capped the message in John 11:25b “who ever believes in me will live even though he dies….” Little D'Banj lives on.
Lineo and D'Banj, take heart. I know it is not going to be easy to let go. I pray the Good Lord will give you the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss and give you another son in no distant time in Jesus name, Amen.

Health / Coconut Water - MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE by Chinoy: 7:46am On Jun 27, 2018
Coconut water, the clear liquid inside coconut is a good source of several nutrients. Its health benefits are numerous which I am very familiar with. In my younger days, I know it is beneficial to drink coconut water after exercise or if you are suffering from dehydration, it helps in prevention of kidney stones, fights diabetes and restores good heart health. Among these benefits, there is one very important use of coconut am about to share with my avid readers. I did not get the story from anybody. It happened to me.

I met this young lady (names withheld) who later became my friend for life, the first time I went for a job interview. We got talking while waiting for the employer of the organisation for the job we applied for.. He took a very long time and some applicants waiting with us got tired and left. I waited with my friend and few others. I never knew our being kept in the Waiting Room was part of the interview. It is always good to hold on, patience is a virtue. That is a story for another day.

I was finally interviewed and to the greater glory of God, I got the job. Few years into the job, my dear friend got married. I visited her and the new baby and I met her Mum of blessed memory. We chatted and one thing led to another. I noticed her new born baby was calm and hardly cried all through the day I was there. My friend's mother said she does not cry at all except when she is hungry because she used natural remedy on her. Curiosity will not kill me as I asked what she meant by natural remedy.

Most babies from two weeks to three months after birth tend to be restless and cry a lot. Mothers will attest to this. The doctors said that is when their intestines are gradually opening up as they take in more breast milk or formular. The old woman advised me that the first thing to give my new born baby is a tea spoon of coconut water before introducing breast milk or formular. She said I should allow it for good thirty minutes no matter how my new born babies cries. I guarded that piece of advise jealously and kept it in my heart . Four years later, I got married and put to bed a bouncing baby boy. Funny enough, the nurses in government owned hospital I used have already stressed on the need for baby friendly (breast milk all through without water/formular) for the next six months. I agreed to that. I was not being discharged soon enough and my little handsome boy almost tore my blouse open with his mouth (wondered how he knew where the milk comes out from so early) but I refused to breast feed him. I told my husband to go home and break one of the local coconut I bought and bring me the coconut water. He already knew my plans and supported me all the way. When he came to the hospital, it was a serious tug of war to give it to my son because the nurses were watching the newly borns like hawk. I managed in a no small way, though hiding to scoop a tea spoon of coconut water from the cup and quickly gave my baby. He savoured it and kept quiet for like ten seconds and started whimpering and searching for breast milk again. I totally ignored him. The nurses were on my neck. "Madam, what are you doing, carrying the baby for nothing. Bring out your breast, even if there is no milk yet, put it in his mouth. He will suck and before you know it, the milk will start flowing. I did not burg. I was bent on watching the time and waiting for thirty minutes to elapse. To cut the long story short, it worked on my first son. I started broadcasting the coconut water good news. My brother in law of blessed memory told me that I will not know how effective the coconut water is on new born babies till I tried it on other kids.

When I had my next babies, I tried the same method and bingo, it all worked. I was impressed and today my close friends /neighbours that tried the method all agreed on the efficacy of coconut water on new born babies and their tummy. Sometimes, I could not help but wonder where these old people got their knowledge. Well, I believe they have been using some natural methods before orthodox drugs came into existence.

My people, if you want to enjoy sound sleep in the night whenever you put to bed, try the coconut water on your baby. I bet you will not regret it. Do not forget that is the first thing to give your baby before introducing any other liquid or formular for at least thirty minutes. Avior

Coconut Water - MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Health / Kill That Infection Before It Kills You by Chinoy: 7:32am On Jun 27, 2018
Candida! Candida!!!, Candida!!!. Ooh, in its true word candidiasis. Most women and men have wide knowledge of what Candidiasis is all about, unfortunately some do not. Let me give a brief definition of it.

Candidiasis, also called thrush or moniliasis, is a yeast infection. Candida albicans is an organism that normally makes a quiet home for itself on your skin and doesn't bother anyone. We all carry this organism on our skin, in our mouth, in our gastrointestinal tract (gut), and, in the case of women, in the vagina.

Here we go. It is not unusual to see some women battling to keep their hands off their private parts in public. You know why, because of the irritating itching that comes from vaginal discharge, awful odour and of course the main infection - candidiasis. If you are among those suffering from this, you need to go to a good hospital and have a couture test done. The next step is to be placed on medication and before you start your medication, here are a few tips that will help you to get rid of the infection once and for all.

- Buy new undies (panties/boxers). Do not begin medication while still using your old panties because there is every possibility that traces of the infection are still on them. Go for new cotton undies, even if it is the cheapest ones. They are better than using the old ones and do not forget cotton panties/undies are better and healthier. If you are married, as you are buying new undies for yourself, buy some for your spouse too. Your medication will not last if the other is still suffering from same. .

-Change your undies regularly. While treating candidiasis, you need to buy from four to seven panties to enable you dispose them at the end of every month. You can go for disposable undies if you can afford it. When you buy plenty undies, you may not feel the need to let go at the end of every month. Why? You will be looking at them as still very new and can be worn for a while. Stop. Remember you are on treatment and if proper care is not taken, the end result will not be achieved.

-Douch with warm water. (This is specially for women) Wash your private part regularly with warm water only, at least twice a day while bathing. Do not use soap or detergent in your private parts as they are cancerous and deadly.

-As much as you can, avoid using and sitting on public toilets no matter how clean they look. If you must use a public loo, bend slightly while making sure your body is not touching the seat.

Even when you are finally diagnosed clean by a medical practitioner from candidiasis, always follow this healthy tips to keep yourself truly free from infection. Remember, health is wealth. No matter how fat your bank account is, you are very poor if you are not healthy enough to enjoy it.
