President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to thank his stars because angry and hungry Nigerians are yet to storm the streets in protest despite widespread hardship in the land.

The call came through a human rights activist and politician, who represents Kaduna Central Senatorial Districts in the Senate and chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign and Local Debts, Senator Shehu Sani.

The worst economic recession in the last 20 years has hit the nation under the Buhari administration, despite the promise of change parroted by the APC prior to the 2015 General Elections.

RomanceThe Only Man Who Deserves Her Is The One Who Thinks He Doesn’t. by Chizgold(op): 2:38pm On Dec 17, 2016
“F*ck it. You’re not perfect, you have your issues. You’ve been broken, you’ve been uncertain and unsure. Sometimes you’re difficult, sometimes you don’t know what the f*ck you’re feeling but that doesn’t change the fact that you deserve the type of love that will quiet the chaos within your soul.” ~ r.h. Sin
They sound all the same, don’t they?

I’m talking about these men who speak of lofty promises of dinners and jewels thinking that somehow that is all that she is after.

It seems they have confused worth with value and think that theirs is wrapped up in their resume and their bottom line.

And with every offer or suggestion reeking in the overconfidence of a man who has no concept of what the soul of a woman like her can do to change his life, he thinks that somehow he deserves her.

He thinks that because of the name inside of his clothing he deserves to be the one to see her while the rest of the world is sleeping.

And somehow he believes that because of his monetary value he’s worth her time—yet there is a reason she always seems to run away at the last minute and remains just out of reach.

There’s a truth that blows like a summer breeze through her golden hair and kisses her shoulders like a hot July sun—that the only man who does actually deserve her is the only one who thinks he doesn’t.

She doesn’t think that it’s an issue of…

RomanceHow To Properly Flirt & Have Sex With Somebody New by Chizgold(op): 1:45pm On Dec 17, 2016
It’s especially easy to fall in love with someone we don’t know.

I like you best when I hardly know you at all, glancing at you across a crowded tea house. You turn me on; I imagine us vacationing in Turks and Caicos, making love until the wee hours of the night, then again the next morning on our way to honeymooning in Paris.

You smile, not at me, but at a passing thought, and it is obvious yours is the smile of my soulmate, my one and only. We are to live happily ever after and all of that will happen as soon as I know your name, court you and caress your endlessly sexy body.

In my daydream your room isn’t strewn with dirty clothes, your parents aren’t overbearing and they live far away, you like the same sort of food I do and the times and places we want sex are........

CultureOnibode Lalupon As A Metaphor PT 1 by Chizgold(op): 3:58pm On Dec 14, 2016
May we not suffer the fate of a gross misconception, the likes of which devastates the soul, ravages the mind and weakens the body.

This is the story of a certain drummer in Ibadan, of a time long gone, when the mighty men of Valor held courts in the sixteen entrances that led a visitor to Ibadan…

“Ibode” is the border post.
Many cities of that period will have four of such exits and entrances, Ibadan had Sixteen and prominent among the border posts was the one at Lalupon, a small village that welcomes the visitor from the Iwo, Osogbo, Offa, Ejigbo parts… A most important post in those days was the Ibode Lalupon and of equal importance among men of Ibadan was the Onibode Lalupon, The Border Commander…

Lalupon, the then less city, has since become assimilated, and is now part of the steadily expanding suburbia Ibadan.

Lalupon, notorious for being the place of a rail disaster that claimed 370 lives in 1957.
Lalupo, where Major General John Thomas Ummunakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi and Colonel Fajuyi were both killed and hastily buried in shallow Graves, in 1966…..
Lalupon……!

Now, the Onibode Lalupon of this post, was a most powerful man, his powers and control over men and their property coming to trade in Ibadan, was akin to decreeing life and death, he could issue both, feared, loved, mostly venerated and wealthy beyond measure was this man of a serious physical defect;
Onibode Lalupon was a most Ugly man…

His physical features bear close remembrance to a baboon, stocky and short.
He does not walk, he struts.
He does not run, he rolls along.
He does not lift his monstrous limbs, he hauls his legs on a path with a certain, thud, thud sound that shakes the earth…

There also lived in the Greater Ibadan at these times, a drummer of repute, great at his trade and such a versatile drummer that was the darling of most mighty men who were his patrons…
Saworo the drummer, does not put his crook to the drum for a peasant; it was a taboo….
Only the high and mighty enjoy the sonorous drumming of Saworo, Ayan Agalu alulu f’Oba, fun ‘joye…
And on every Orun, which is every fifth day of the week, Saworo will make his journey from his home at Oje, all the way to Lalupon to drum and sing the praises of the Border Commander…

For those who are familiar with the Yoruba heritage, each of these mighty men of Valor had their own drumming tone, like we have the individual ringing tone of today…
If I decide to go to my family house on any day, the family drummer, Egbon mi Lere welcomes me with, “Ko mo’yi Erin; eniyan to r’ori Erin la’ate; Ko mo’yi Erin – He that by happenstance comes upon the head of an elephant in the market place thinking it is commonplace, has no regard for the Elephant nor any for the Gallant hunter that felled it.

Saworo, should perhaps know how the Onibode Lalupon should be greeted with his drums, but… Hardly does anyone know the Onibode’s ancestry that well, so Saworo only did the right thing by formulating a befitting greeting for the Onibode and it sure was good enough drumming that goes thus;
“Din din din ndìn ndìn, din din ndìín;
Din din din ndín din dìn ndin dín dín din…”

Suffice it to say, the Onibode was most joyous, happy and elated when this particular part of the drumming is bellowed from Saworo’s experienced booming from the bronze belled Iya Ilu of the lead drum…
And such is ever the joys of Onibode Lalupon that he was always wont to give money, clothing, clothes kolanuts and other valuables, many of such, seized, to Saworo for his Exquisite and Exclusive drumming….

Part 2 on the site later today

PoliticsBUHARI IN GAMBIA: Right Message, Wrong Messenger — Vitus Ozoke by Chizgold(op):
You don't send Donald Trump on a mission on monogamy and family values, because he is on his third marriage, and it's not because he was a widower. By that same token, you don't send Buhari on a democratic rescue mission, because he has a record for killing democracy.

There was a major national event in Nigeria on October 1, 1979. On that day, the whole world watched and celebrated with Nigeria as it reclaimed popular democracy from the clutches of a successive military oligarchs who had toppled and thwarted the first popular republic, plunging the fledgling nation into a three-year civil war with a human death toll in excess of one million. It was a healing moment, and everybody needed healing. But it would be the shortest convalescence for a nation.

December 31, 1983, two short months after he was reelected and re-inaugurated on October 1, 1979, Alhaji Shehu Shagari was chased out of government house, Lagos by a team of ambitious but self-advertised military patriots led by a gangly General from Duara. With that eerie early morning marshal concerto on the airwaves, democracy, as we knew it, died again, and Nigerians would step into the new year, corralled by the jackboots and koboko whips of a moralizing and paternalizing marshal disciplinarian.

From that moment, a young and promising nation descended into a horrifying spiral of costly coups, counter-coups, annulments, interim and provisional contraptions that frittered away a generational national fortune. It marked the beginning of the longest sixteen years of a national nightmare that saw the collapse of national institutions and the institutionalizations of corruption and allied vices. It was a season of locust plague that ate away at the very foundations of our national existence.

The greatest harm of that sixteen-year journey down the path of infamy, which was flagged off on December 31, 1983, is not the quantifiable economic losses, as humongous as they are; it is the permanent entrenchment of corruption as a national ethos in our national psyche. The former we could recover from, the latter we could never - not in the next hundred years. It is that bad, and President Muhammad Buhari triggered it, the key word being "triggered".

Reasonable people can have reasonable debate on the condition of the country in the twenty months of the Buhari-Idiagbon regime. Assessments will vary depending on who is making them and the matrix they are using. For those who believe in a disciplined citizenry, law, and order, Buhari's first stint in national leadership receives high marks. For those who believe in popular and constitutional democracy, that was not just a.....

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Wednesday congratulated the Americans for a successful Presidential election, stating that they have bought into change as canvassed by the President-elect and Republican candidate, Donald Trump.

Also, politicians and political parties have expressed different views over the victory of the Republican candidate over the Democratic flagbearer, Hilary Clinton.

While some believe that Nigeria and Africa should be weary of Trump’s victory some believed that the Democratic policy in the last eight years did not benefit Nigerians and Africa.

PoliticsTribute To The Most Gallant Army Commander, Lt. Col. Abu Ali –hamza Idris by Chizgold(op): 5:33pm On Nov 06, 2016
Couldn’t stop crying when I heard of the brutal murder of this gentleman, Lt. Col. Abu Ali. Only those who were in Borno at the height of the Boko Haram’s inglorious territorial conquest would understand, appreciate and then lament the exit of Lt. Col. Abu Ali.

His was a life full of gallantry, sacrifice, love for Nigeria and willingness to die in order to keep it one.

Quiet, considerate, compassionate and caring, leading by example was his trademark at the height of confrontation with Boko Haram terrorists.

Late Lt. Col. Ali was the soldier, who operated the most sophisticated of all war equipment deployed to the North East, traversed the North, Central and Northern Borno endlessly and tirelessly; recovered towns and liberated villages under the control of the BH.

Late Ali it was, who during day and night, rain and sunshine, stepped on countless landmines that dotted Borno’s porous borders with Chad, Cameroon and Nigeria, cleared the paths for our dear soldiers, who rescued the weak, the kids, the women and the old from the clutches of the Boko Haramists.

Though smallish in nature, late Ali’s heart was like that of....

Nairaland GeneralFreemasonry: An Ideal Guide To Ending Religion’s Divisiveness– Henry Bassey by Chizgold(op): 5:39am On Nov 06, 2016
“May this wine I now drink become a deadly poison to me if I ever knowingly or intentionally betray any of the secrets now about to be imparted to me.”

As the initiate says these words; words that have been spoken by countless men generations before him, he raises the hollow skull filled with blood-red wine toward his mouth drinking in long and deep swallows till the last drop.

About an hour before then, the initiate would have entered the temple blindfolded and dressed in loose-fitting white trousers and a tunic. His left leg was exposed to the knee and the left breast of the tunic had been drawn apart to expose that side of the chest. A hangman noose was put round his neck. Tonight, he was dressed as a medieval heretic before the Inquisition.

The ceremony proceeded with the initiate being led into the temple where the worship master will inquire of him to affirm that he is of age and that his desire to join the brotherhood wasn’t influenced by an unworthy motive, mercenary or improper solicitation. The initiate is then reminded of the punishment that may follow if he intentionally betrays the secrets now about to be imparted to him. After which the initiate is made to kneel in front of the altar before the worshipful master and to take the oath of fidelity by placing his right hand on the “Volume of Sacred Law” (The Bible) and reciting the words of the oath.

As the blindfold is taken off, the initiate begins to grasp the world before him. The assembly of brothers encircling him was....

BusinessEu’s Grants To Nigeria May Top €1.5b By 2020 by Chizgold(op): 5:10pm On Nov 04, 2016
Nigeria is expected to have earned €1.46 billion from the European Union (EU) in form of grants for critical projects in some key sectors of the economy starting from 2008 to 2020. The country had already received €750 million between 2008 and 2013, while the next phase of the grant estimated at €712 million, which started since 2014, will end in 2020, averaging about €100 million per year.

The EU Ambassador and Head of Delegation to Nigeria and Economic Community of West African States, Michel Arrion, said although an average grant of €100 million yearly to a country with more than $400 billion Gross Domestic Product is small, it is targeted at key issues that would help wealth and job creating investments.

153 Civil servants from the Federal Ministry of Environment have cried out over the sudden decision by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) to stop paying them their salaries. This information was revealed when the disgruntled workers created a Twitter handle @153civilservants_ng to draw attention to this development.

According to information made available on the handle, the decision to stop the payment of their salaries was due to what the OAGF called “unauthorized and irregular recruitment”. The instruction that the OAGF should stop paying them, the group said, came from the office of the chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC);

“The Chairman, FCSC has directed OAGF to stop payment of salaries of names of innocent officers given employment letters in 2014”

PoliticsKalu’s Latest Outburst Against Ndi-igbo Tears Ohaneze, MASSOB Apart by Chizgold(op): 3:23pm On Nov 02, 2016
The sudden outburst of the Former Governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu has torn apart the Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo, Ohaneze Youth Council and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).

This came on Tuesday, November 1 as the former Abia State governor , Orji Kalu’s asserted that the Igbo people are better traders than politicians.

“The Igbo have no discipline in terms of politics. They are very good traders; they’re good in anything they do, but they don’t understand politics,” Kalu was quoted to have said.

The groups, which spoke in separate interviews in Enugu, differed in their reactions to Kalu’s statement.

Taking the first shot, the Ohanaeze Youth Council, the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, asked the former governor to immediately apologise to the Igbo people and also retract his statement.

But the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra maintained that Kalu said the truth.

Reacting to the statement, the President, Ohanaeze Youth Council, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, described Kalu’s statement as unbecoming of a two-term governor who was seen as an Igbo leader.

Isiguzoro said, “Orji Kalu should immediately apologise to Ndigbo for insulting the great Igbo nation.

“During the First Republic, Igbo people like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Michael Okpara and others were at the forefront of the independence movement. In the Second Republic, Igbo people like Dr. Alex Ekwueme were also at the forefront of national politics. It was when people like Kalu came to power that the Igbo began to lose ground, because he (Kalu) and his likes introduced traders’ mentality into the politics played by the Igbo at the national level.”

He added, “The statement, which is ridiculing Ndigbo, was not expected from somebody who was a two-term governor. Was Nnamdi Azikiwe a....

Domestic airline operators have pleaded with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to allot the local industry at least $50million grant from the foreign exchange (forex) special intervention programme.

The airlines, while commending the take-off of the programme, said domestic operators deserved equally wider forex window like their foreign counterparts, given their more important role in development of the local economy.

The CBN,had, following agitations by stakeholders, in October intervened in the inter-bank forex market, granting concession to some sectors, through forward settlement.

Besides aviation, raw materials and machinery for manufacturing companies and agricultural chemicals are other beneficiaries.

The CBN’s Special Secondary Market Intervention Sales (SMIS) is, however, a one-off exercise dedicated to the clearance of the backlog of matured forex obligation for airlines, especially the international carriers that have funds stuck in Nigerian.

Report says at the forex bidding processes opened about two weeks ago, with invitation sent to the airlines to place their request.

PoliticsThe Reverberating Echo Of A Distant Drumming — By Mogaji Gboyega Adejumo by Chizgold(op): 5:00pm On Oct 30, 2016
Down the memory lane of a sonorous proverbial kind. And here again, as another year rolls by, happy to share this piece. If ever I am caught, reading any of my old posts, surely this post will be one of such. The difficulty in writing is not to write, but to write what you mean; not to affect your reader, but to affect him precisely as you wish.

One year after, the import of this post of a year gone by already, looms nearer than ever. And as 2017 approaches, it becomes important more than ever to revisit its salient points.

Holding on to deceit as a weapon is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else. At the end, you are the one who gets burned.

These are very interesting times. Nothing really might have changed, yet everything is somewhat a replication–recycling if you will–of the way we do things.

I often wonder, why is it that anytime we truly try to make an effort at moving forward, we end up substituting an evil with a different evil far more sinister than the one we are trying to run away from. To arrive at this postulate, I am wont to have to take you back, some may not have been there then, but can still follow.
It may have started sometime in the 60s perhaps the 50s but certainly many will remember the drumming on radio in the 70s heralding the reading of the news of the day;

Dín Dín Dìn Dìn Dín Dín, Dindíndín Din Dìn! (the drumming is repeated, 3 times and variedly interpreted thus):

T’Olubadan ba ku tani o j’oye!;....

Politics“onojie Of Uromi Apologises, Makes Peace With Betty Okoebor” — Gloria Adagbon by Chizgold(op): 2:16pm On Oct 30, 2016
The Onojie of Uromi, His Royal Highness Aslem Aidenojie has apologised to Mrs Betty Okoebor for the brutal attack following Edo State Chapter of APC’s ultimatum to the suspended monarch to apologise to all Edo women or face court action.

It will be recalled that the monarch was suspended from office for 7 days as Onojie of Uromi by the Edo State Executive Council in a letter dated October 26, 2016 following his attack on Mrs Okoebor.

Violence against any human being is a crime against humanity and should be condemned. Violence against women and the girl child is unacceptable and should be condemned. Violence from those in a position authority and trust should be frowned at and condemned in its entirety.

It is therefore refreshing to see that the Onogie of Uromi have done the honourable thing by apologising to the woman he assaulted and setting a good example from what could be termed a bad precedent. This is because as an Onogie, he wields great influence on the people and his actions of “slapping” a defenceless woman in public could be construed as a norm by his followers and people who...

PoliticsFayose’s Love Affair With Aisha by Chizgold(op): 6:16pm On Oct 26, 2016
Aisha Buhari is the most beautiful first lady on planet earth. Do you doubt it? Or are you trying to compare her beauty with her predecessor, Mama Peace? Or can you compare her charming smile, graceful look and physique to that of Oby Ezekwesili, the long time admirer of former President Olusegun Obasanjo?

One sometimes wonders what beautiful Aisha is doing with a 73 –year old man called Buhari who has suddenly reduced himself to the status of junketeer- in-Chief with the least clue about anything? Just as an aside, did anyone notice that Buhari hardly ever travel with his wife? Was that what motivated Ayodele Fayose to begin to feel he has a shot at her? Perhaps to fill the ever present void left by Baba Bubu?

Almost all of Fayose’s actions are geared towards catching the attention of Nigeria’s beauty queen; from his Chinese trip, the raising of hunters to fight Fulani herdsmen, his prediction of the mortality of the President during the elections down to the freezing of his accounts and his claim that the Bank had come to beg him. It seemed that Fayose must do everything possible to get the attention of the wife of Mr President whom he cherishes so much.

Apart from beauty though, what other quality stands Aisha out?

Besides being an entrepreneur, Aisha Buhari is equally a consummate politician. A strong believer in the project, Nigeria, Mrs Buhari showed her political sagacity with a successful fundraising dinner for all female candidates of the defunct CPC. She was honored by guests from all over the world and in various fields of endeavour. From New York to Dubai, Sokoto to Lagos and to the Creeks of the Niger Delta, Mrs Buhari pulled off an incredible crowd of successful women both in the public and private sector. Housewives and home makers were equally present and honored by this woman who spent the early years of her married life as a home maker.

All of these must have caught the attention of the very.....
