Politics / PDP Northern PDP Youths Endorsed Makarfi, Reject Sherrif by Chizgold: 5:21pm On Feb 26, 2017
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP north pressure youth group under the auspices of the Northern Youth Fronties (PDPYF) has agreed to supports and remain loyal withing the mainsteam group of the party under the leadership of Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

It has also disagree with the judgement delivered by the Court of Appeal last week in Port Harcourt, favouring Senator Ali Modu Sherrif as the authenticated chairman of the party.

In a communique issued after a meeting with some selected representatives of the Youths Group across the North in Katsina, Katsina state in the weekend, the group mandated its zonal executive of the group to meet with others stakeholders across the country for a national rally in support of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi who was recognized by majority of the party stakeholders, include founding fathers, PDP governors, BoT and 36 state chapters across the country.

According to Press release submitted from Katsina during the weekend, Zonal Co-coordinator of the PDP Youth Frontiers group and Sokoto state Publicity Secretary of party, Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi, said the decision taken by the representatives of the 26 Youth groups associated with the PDP activities in Nigeria that are bonafide
members of the party are done with good faith and for the love of the party.

He said, the group will meet next week in Abuja and Lagos respectively with some of the stakeholders and and founding fathers alive in order to seek supports for the national rally so as to bring a united and formidable stand on the youth’s decision of ensuring political cohesion, unity and progress under the Senator Makarfi’s leadership of the party.

“Our stand and resolution to backs Sen Makarfi was a unanimous decision and a firm one, because majority of our teeming youths across the country has agreed to support, show their solidarity on the genuine leadership of authentic party leadership under Senator Ahmed Makarfi and his executive as endorsed by our last convention of the party in Port Harcourt.

Therefore, we will use all the available time, resources and connection in the political contacts across the country; so as to engage ourselves in the process of enlighten party supporters for the effect and danger of leaving PDP to some known invaders, using the like of Senator Sherrif and his cohorts to destroy PDP and opposition in Nigeria” Said Dingyadi

“There is no court in Nigeria that can force the (Nigerian Youth) by accepting illegality or recognizing a person who we understand is plotting to destroy this party, the same PDP he want lead by force. He cannot lead by ridiculing almost everybody including our leaders that have suffered before now to make PDP a greater place and formidable party, only because he is connected and closed to some powerful organs of the APC government, who may have sponsored and financed his deals of

Politics / BREAKING: Obasanjo Speaks On Buhari by Chizgold: 3:21pm On Feb 26, 2017
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has again open up on President Muhammadu Buhari saying that the former army general has not disappointed him since he assumed office in 2015.

Obasanjo stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday at his hilltop residence in Abeokuta.

While reflecting on the Buhari administration since 2015, Obasanjo said that the president had done his best to move the country forward.

“Whatever anybody says, President Buhari has not disappointed me from what I know of him,’’ he said.

He said the president had delivered on his core areas of strength and ability, particularly in the anti-corruption crusade and the war against insurgency.

“In my book, I have said that Buhari is not strong on the economy and I did not write this to run him down.

“I also used to think that he is not strong in the area of foreign affairs, but I have realised that he has improved very well.

“He has actually done his best in the areas where we know him to be strong,” he said.

The elder statesman urged Nigerians not to relent in their support for Buhari and not to give up on Nigeria.

“Whatever you might see as bad in Nigeria, other societies have gone through the same at some period in their history.

“It is not for us to begin to condemn but to begin to join hands together and consider how we can make the best out of our present.

“Our present situation is a passing phase and we need to be resilient to ensure that we are not consumed by it.

“I will be the first to admit that we have not been where we should havebeen, but note that we have also been far from where we could have been because it could have been worse.

“It is the height of ingratitude for people to say Nigeria has not achieved anything or much as a nation.

“The generation before mine fought for Nigeria’s independence, that is great.

“My own generation, which is the next, fought to sustain the unity of Nigeria.

“Since 1999, Nigeria had enjoyed 18 years of unbroken democracy.

“We witnessed in 2007 a transition of power from one individual to another in the same party.

“We witnessed in 2015 a transition of power from an individual in the ruling party to another individual in the opposition party.

“All these should not be taken for granted,” he said.

Obasanjo also decried the call for national conferences or assemblies to negotiate the continued unity of Nigeria.

The former president who...

Romance / The Dirty Little Secret In Most Relationships by Chizgold: 6:18am On Feb 26, 2017
I ended my last relationship because of sex.

But that’s not what I told my boyfriend about why I wanted to split up. I told him other things that were also true (so I didn’t exactly lie), but I didn’t tell him the whole truth.

I didn’t share the full story with him for the same reason a lot of people never say anything: because we’re afraid of “hurting each other’s feelings.”

I believe a whole lot of people break up (and even end marriages) in large part because of sex, even though they often list something else as the culprit.

I’m not saying sex isn’t a cited reason. Often, one person will say s/he wants it more (or less) than the other. One will say the other isn’t as “open-minded” as s/he wants.

But that’s not the real, underlying reason beneath the sexual dissatisfaction.

It’s not that we could never satisfy each other. It’s not that we’re fundamentally different and fundamentally incapable of becoming compatible.

No, I believe it’s due to something much more serious than we have given it credit for. Something that’s just as much of a relationship-destroyer as cheating, yet remains something we rarely talk about.

There’s a dirty little secret in most relationships: We have no f*cking clue how to talk to one another about sex.

I’m not talking about frequency. I’m not talking about the, “Hey, it’s been a while since we had sex. Is everything cool?” conversation. I’m not even talking about the, “Hey, we need to talk about this…I feel like I want sex way more than you, and I’m afraid of what that means” thing.

No, not the how-often-we-have-it, not the details of how I give you blow jobs, or when you’ll be open to us having anal sex—I’m talking about the actual…

Politics / Reviewing Osinbajo’s Achievements During 38days As Acting President by Chizgold: 5:49am On Feb 26, 2017
This is the third time Professor Yemi Osinbajo is acting as president. The first was in February 2016 when the president embarked on a five-day vacation, and the second time was in June 2016 when President Muhammadu Buhari went on a trip to the United Kingdom to treat an ear infection.

Unlike the era of the late President Umaru Yar’adua’s health crisis, Buhari had transmitted a letter to the National Assembly, informing them of his vacation and surrendering power to Osinbajo. President Buhari began a two-week vacation in London but later extended it indefinitely to address yet-to-be-disclosed medical concerns. Since then, the acting president has been riding out the storm.

Following a directive from the acting president, the dollar came crashing, 24 hours after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) released $500 million to the banks, stabilising at 450 from N525. This is one of the effects of the directive issued after the National Economic Council meeting to the CBN to review its foreign exchange policy that weakened the national currency.

The name of Justice Walter Onnoghen was also forwarded to the National Assembly as acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, less than 24 hours to the expiration of his three-month acting period, saving the country another constitutional controversy.

A presidential task force was set up to address the skyrocketing prices of foodstuff across the country, while seven bills passed by the National Assembly were signed into law. Four others were rejected.

Face-to-face talks were held with communities in the creeks of the oil-rich Niger Delta on how to stabilise the region, fix their infrastructure and ensure a hitch-free flow of crude to the international market.

Osinbajo has so far presided over five meetings of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), awarding contracts worth billions of naira, among others.

January 20: After the Davos summit

Osinbajo was attending the 2017 World Economic Summit in Davos, Switzerland when Buhari travelled to London and he became acting president. On his return in January 20, he swung into action by having an engagement with service chiefs who briefed him on the situation in The Gambia at that time. He also received briefing from some members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

January 23: Unveiling 59 strategies for economic recovery

On January 23, Osinbajo presided over the Presidential Business Forum, during which 59 strategies for implementing the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) were unveiled. He later received the special envoy of President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti.

January 24: Micro enterprise clinic launched

On January 24, Osinbajo launched the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Clinics at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa. He later proceeded to preside over a meeting of the Presidential Enabling Business Council.

Shortly before presiding over the FEC meeting on February 1, during which the Presidential Task Force on Food Security, mandated to reduce prices of food items in the country, was constituted, Osinbajo had inaugurated five commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC).

February 2: Met Saraki, Doagara again

The acting president again met with the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives on February 2.

February 6: Economic Recovery Forum opened

On February 6, Osinbajo declared open, the Agenda for Consultative Forum on Economic Recovery and Growth Plan. He told the forum that the nation was in a very serious economic situation, but assured that the government remained committed to putting the economy on the path to sustainable growth.

Osinbajo assured the nation that President Buhari is hale and hearty and would return home as soon as he completed the necessary tests recommended by his doctors in the United Kingdom after his reported telephone conversation with the president.

February 7: Sent Onnoghen’s name for confirmation

The acting president, on February 7, sent the name of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, to the Senate for confirmation.

He later issued a statement assuring Nigerians that with the federal government’s complete focus on improving the economy, the current recession would soon be history. “We are committed to a continuous engagement with our people to explain government policies, receive advice and criticism,” he said.

Later in the day, the acting president met with the then outgoing Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko.

February 8: Met Kano Emir, as FEC approved N21bn roads contract

On February 8, Osinbajo chaired a meeting of the Federal Executive Council, which adopted measures to reduce prices of food items in the country. The meeting also resolved to restrict importation, from ECOWAS countries, of finished products that could be produced locally. That was in addition to the approval by the FEC, of N21 billion for the construction of the Ilorin-Omu Aran-Kabba Road, Section I.

Later in the day, the acting president held a closed-door meeting with the Emir of Kano and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Muhammadu Sanusi.

Later in the evening, Osinbajo chaired a meeting of the Presidential Committee on Asset Recovery. The meeting was attended by the Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris, the director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura; the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu and the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Ekpo Nta.

February 10: Visited the creeks in Bayelsa

Osinbajo headed for Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on February 10 in continuation of his interactive engagements with oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta region.

February 13: Met Governor Wike in Rivers

Similarly, on February 13, the acting president was in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to meet stakeholders of the oil producing communities. During the meeting, he rolled out the framework for the clean-up exercise of Ogoni land.

February 15: FEC approved N126bn roads contracts, national health policy

The Federal Executive Council meeting he chaired on February 15 approved the award of N126 billion road projects spread across Kano, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kwara, Gombe, Enugu an Kaduna states. The council meeting also approved the National Draft Health Policy 2016.

February 16: Directed the CBN to review foreign exchange policy

On February 16, the acting president inaugurated the National Road Safety Advisory Council, mandated to advise the Federal Executive Council and the National Economic Council on how to improve road safety management in the country. He chairs the council.

He presided over the first National Economic Council meeting of the year on February 16. The meeting directed the CBN to review the foreign exchange policy. The meeting also resolved that fresh $250 million be injected into the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF). The CBN subsequently released about $500 million through the interbank market, where the 23 banks bought $371m.

The dollar crashed between N400 and N450 against the earlier N525.

The naira also gained against other currencies such as the Pound Sterling, which traded at 645 a day earlier but slipped to 610 while the Euro came down from N537 to N507 at the end of trading yesterday.

Also during the week, the CBN began moves to fund commercial banks with additional Forex to carter for school fees, medicals and personal travelling allowance (PTA) and business travel allowance (BTA) at a special rate.

February 17: Signed 7 bills into law

On February 17, the acting president signed seven bills into law. They were Oaths (Amendment) Act 2017; Defence Space Administration Act 2017; Veterinary Surgeons (Amendment) Act 2017; National Film and Video Censors Board (Amendment) Act 2017; Pension Rights of Judges (Amendment) Act 2017; Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (Establishment) Act 2017 and Mortgage Institutions (Amendment) Act 2016.

February 18: Attended Barrow’s inauguration in The Gambia

The only function Osinbajo had so far attended outside Nigeria as acting president was the inauguration of the new president of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, which took place in Banjul on February 18. The Presidency did not announce that Osinbajo was going for the inauguration; his aides only released the photographs of the event two days after.

February 19: No money earmarked for vice president’s residence

On February 19, Osinbajo said that no money was earmarked for the proposed new official residence of the vice president following reports that he budgeted N250 million for an iron gate to the proposed residence, which had been under construction since 2010 despite lingering economic crisis.

February 20: Met wheat and rice task force

Osinbajo, on February 20, presided over a meeting of the Presidential Task Force on Wheat and Rice. He assured that the nation would attain self-sufficiency in food security. The meeting was attended by the governors of Kano, Jigawa, Kebbi and Ebonyi states, as well as ministers of agriculture and finance.

Osinbajo could not make his proposed visit to Ondo State where he was expected to commission Governor Mimiko’s N1.5 billion event centre due to ‘bad weather’.

February 21: Adopted 60-day action plan for business

On February 21, he chaired an expanded meeting of the Presidential Enabling Business Council. The meeting, which was attended by Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara and other government officials, adopted a 60-day national action plan for business. Osinbajo asked the nation to expect changes in business visas, as well as seaports and airports.

February 22: Approved N32bn for Kaduna bypass

The Federal Executive Council meeting he chaired on February 22 approved N32 billion for the resuscitation and completion of the 50km dual carriage Kaduna eastern bypass highway. The Council also approved $39.9 for the construction of the Cameroon-Nigeria border link bridge at Ikot Efiem. The council also approved the Revised National Policy on Environment.

Osinbajo also withheld assent to four bills recently passed into law by the National Assembly.

He asked the House of Representatives for approval to borrow $500 million out of the $1 billion Eurobond from the International Capital Market (ICM). He said the $500 million would be used to fund the 2016 budget deficit.

After the FEC meeting, the acting president hosted the commander of the United States-Africa Command, General Thomas Waldhauster and the American ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington.

February 23: Met economic team, Saraki, Dogara over budget

On February 23, the acting president, at his Aguda House residence in Aso Rock Presidential Villa, presided over a meeting between the National Economic Management Team and the leadership of the National Assembly over the 2017 budget.

He summoned Inspector-General of Police Idris Ibrahim over the kidnap of two German archaeologists, Prof. Peter Breunig and Mr. Johannes Behringer in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

February 23: Unscheduled visit to Lagos airport

The acting president also paid an unscheduled visit to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, as part of the 60-day action plan for business reforms in the country. The visit took many airport workers by surprise. Osinbajo inspected facilities and interacted with airport officials.

February 24: Sacked 10 NCAA directors, met poultry farmers

Less than 24 hours after his unscheduled visit to Lagos airport, the federal government announced the sack of 10 directors of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Three new directors and a general manager were also appointed for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

He also met with representatives of the poultry farmers in the country. He said the government was planning urgent relief for poultry farmers in the country to save the industry from collapse.

Those in attendance were the comptroller-general of the Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Hali, CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele and Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun.

How Osinbajo spends his day

Before he became acting president, as vice president of Nigeria and a senior pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Lagos, he was used to attending the church’s weekly Holy Ghost night vigil along the Lagos-Ibadan highway. Each time he attended the programme, the vice president’s wing of the State House always appeared deserted, especially on Fridays, with only a few members of staff and aides sighted in their offices.

Now, a close monitoring of the acting president’s itineraries and programmes shows that he is, for obvious reasons, keeping vigil only at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, attending to state matters.

Except he has any official function to attend outside the State House, the acting president resumes in the office as early as 9.00am and most times, remains there, holding meetings, treating files and discharging other duties till about 9.00pm. And when occasionally he travels at weekends, it is strictly on official duties.

Since Osinbajo became acting president, the vice president’s wing of the Presidential Villa, from where he operates, has been a beehive of activities. He only moves to the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa for the weekly meetings of the FEC and the monthly meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC).

Osinbajo has continued to combine his duties as acting president with the various responsibilities assigned to him as vice president who heads some vital organs of the executive and several presidential committees. He chairs the National Economic Management Team (NEMT), which is the government’s think-tank responsible for the formulation of the country’s economic policy direction, as well as the NEC, saddled with the responsibility of guiding the president on his...

Politics / Buhari’s Illness, A Blessing For The Apc-dele Momodu by Chizgold: 1:17am On Feb 26, 2017
The publisher of Ovation International and a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dele Momodu, has said that Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, is effecting positive and noticeable changes in Nigeria, a feat his boss, Muhammadu Buhari failed to achieve while in the country.

Recall that Buhari handed over to Osinbajo on January 19 before proceeding to the UK on a medical vacation.

In Momodu’s latest article published on Saturday, titled “Before President Buhari returns home,” Momodu praised the work done so far by Osinbajo and asked Buhari to continue when he is back.

On sick Buhari, he said: ‘’every disappointment they say is a blessing. While we are very sad that our President, Muhammadu Buhari, has not been feeling too well for some time now and needs treatment and recuperation abroad, I now believe that God wants him to also have some time for sober and deep reflection.”

He recalled that the Acting President has been to several states in the Niger Delta and this week, stopped by the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on an impromptu visit. The Naira has also appreciated greatly against the US dollar.

“The good news is that the Acting President has started doing some of the things we expected and advised President Buhari to do. I do not want to over-excite anyone yet but this is smelling good, like the Americans would put it. We must enter special prayers and intercede with serious fasting so that President Buhari can continue along this path of progress when he returns to office, hopefully very shortly, by the grace of God”

“I had suggested in my memos to him that what he was looking for in Sokoto (the city) is actually in his sokoto (pocket). He has got a powerful joker in the pack and that is his Vice President. Professor Osinbajo is not your typical politician. He is a

Politics / Government By Body Language by Chizgold: 10:58pm On Feb 22, 2017
Nigeria is a funny country. Strike that off. Nigerians are very funny people. We have this unique way of finding a way to turn very serious issues into comedy. This has so become a part of our lives that when we even try to say something serious, the comic part of us makes us sound like comedians. Some have equated this to the extreme level of hardship in the country and our in-built ability to always survive. So we just look for the comic aspect in every situation. That way, we have been able to survive several bad governments and still come out as happy people.

Recently though, we out did ourselves. First, you-know-who bragged to the world that the improvement the country currently witnesses in the power sector was not as a result of any concrete action by the government. Rather, it came about simply through the president’s ‘body language’. Suddenly, many supporters of the current president went to town, telling everybody how the president’s body language is making the country better. I have wearied myself trying to find out what ‘body language’ means, but not to worry, I am yet to get to that exalted level where such esoteric coinages can be comprehended by me.

Next, Ogoni people are jubilant. They say that President Buhari, by re-structuring the composition of HYPREP and approving an initial funding of US$10Million, had within a few months accomplished what ‘took Jonathan four years’. Forget the fact that the phrasing of the assertion grammatically means that re-structuring HYPREP took Jonathan four years to do, and focus on the fact that the action taken by President Buhari was nothing but altering what had already been set up. Then you will ask (like I did) why the unprecedented jubilation by the Ogonis. Their reply was simple; ‘the President’s body language shows that action will be taken this time in the clean-up Ogoni project’. There again, you have it! Body language. Later, it became evident that part of the reason for the jubilation was that the Ogoni people got representation on the board. As a great Ogoni man (Celestine Akpobare) will say, “That’s the body language of our system.” So nothing significant had changed, just body language. Fast forward to several months later, and nothing has changed(at least significantly)

‘Stealing is now corruption’; ‘A new sheriff is in town’, and his body language is the only thing he is using to change the country.

Nigeria is a great nation filled with intelligent people. I hope that we will soon realise that...

Politics / PDP CRISIS: Ali Modu Sheriff Begs Fayose by Chizgold: 9:41pm On Feb 22, 2017
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has assumed office on Wednesday as he begs the Ekiti Stat Governor, Ayodele Fayose to give peace a chance

Sheriff disclosed that the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, would be re-opened not later than Friday this week.

Addressing a delegation of South West PDP at his Maitama, Abuja office, Sheriff said he has transmitted all documents necessary for the re-opening of the PDP headquarters, stressing that his mission was to rebuild the party.

He said that he came to the party through a process and that he would cease to be chairman after the convention.

“We have no argument with anybody. The law is certain. Nigerians have spoken. Some of the people you see, they actually don’t know where their villages are. They sit in Abuja and decide to make unnecessary statements.

“In the name of God, let’s re-build this party. Don’t divide the party. Let everybody unite in order to rebuild the party. I beg Fayose to respect PDP and the people of Nigeria. I beg him. Whatever you say today, posterity will judge you, so I beg him. ‎Let’s tell Nigerians that our party is for all.

“I am not going to be chairman forever. I will leave office after the convention. We will do a credible convention. Whoever is against me should wait until after the convention,” Sheriff said.

Politics / I Want To Go To London… To See Buhari — Reuben Abati by Chizgold: 6:43am On Feb 21, 2017
When 15 million plus Nigerians voted for President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 General elections, their expectation was that he would be available to serve them 24/7/365, and that those who fielded him as their candidate had done their home work to avoid what is curiously becoming the Katsina problem in Nigerian politics. Katsina! But we have now found ourselves in a situation whereby our President is now in London, for more than one month sir, ma, and we are here, and we have an acting President, who according to everybody, including the extremists and the mischievous, and the politically partisan, is beginning to try his best, with his admirers, now praying for the worst.

For that reason alone, we have an emotionally, politically and spiritually divided country on our hands. Don’t mind what they tell you, and don’t deceive yourself, the Nigerian Presidency is in turmoil. It is not our wish. It is not what the voters asked for. But that is how democracy works. You cannot predict the results that democracy produces. Not even in America. Or Russia.

Now that we have found ourselves in this situation, anyway – an absentee President trying to remain relevant and an acting President struggling to put up appearances, and struggling harder not to be seen to be ambitious (sorry, Prof. I was your student but I have something to say sir, I don’t mean any harm – truth be told), where should the Nigerian people stand? For the past one month, we have all been trapped in a post-truth situation, pretending as if all is normal. We should stop pretending.

Those who supported and are supporting the APC that brought President Muhammadu Buhari to power and office cannot talk. They cannot talk due to embarrassment and shame. They are busy putting up a face. But for how long can they do this? The Nigerian media is also on its knees, looking so pitiable, with the exception of a few blogs, newspapers that we can’t even trust, professional media consultants who are in disarray, a few bloggers and then some gentlemen: Pa Ikhide, Farooq Kperogi, Sonala Olumhense, Omoyele Sowore, Pius Adesanmi and Okey Ndibe who have since been specially illuminated as they journeyed to Damascus.

I will return to this subject some other day. But I think right now, we should begin to take the subject of the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari more seriously. Bukola Saraki, our Senate President has visited him in London, twice, within two weeks. I don’t think we should leave this business of visiting the President to party chieftains, the executive and the Federal Legislature. If care is not taken, Senator Saraki may be tempted to visit the President again next week. And the week after and he may even be tempted to travel with all the members of the National Assembly. There must be equity in this matter.

Figure it out as follows: we all know that President Buhari is now in London and he is the man Nigerians chose as their President in 2015. We cannot forsake him. He is in London on working leave, for more than one month now, and we don’t know when that leave will end. We have been told it will end soon. Later. One day. Whenever. We are not God. Let the leave end when it will. But we, the people, have a duty to stand by our President. This is the point of this article. We are Africans. We have traditions. We respect elders. We don’t joke with old age. The time has come, right now, for Nigerians to behave like Africans.

We should therefore, not leave this business of visiting to Senator Busola Saraki alone. Party chieftains have visited Mr. President. The leadership of the National Assembly has also gone to London to be part of President Buhari’s working leave. I think Vice-President-Acting-President Yemi Osinabjo should also visit his boss, this week, next week, or ASAP. Henceforth, he should be in London at least once a week. Let us stop pretending that the President is not in charge. He is. If Aso Villa is now in London, let us make it work. The Acting President and the real President need quality face time. If the acting President must go to London everyday, let him do so, but don’t let us run Nigeria by telephone or DHL Am I making sense? I am not talking about common sense. I mean real sense. So, do I make any sense at all?

After the Acting President’s visit, all former Presidents should also start going to London to see the President. Those former Presidents are not as harmless as they pretend to be. They are projected to the public as advisers but they are more than that: they all left something in Aso Villa that makes them eternally powerful. It is like leaving your DNA in a woman’s body. They should be allowed or perhaps encouraged to visit President Buhari while he is on working leave. I think our Baba in Abeokuta, Ota and Ibogun should be the first to visit. That may negate the order of seniority, but trust the Ebora Owu to return from London with front-page news! After him, the others can start visiting and probably advise on the possibility of holding a Council of State meeting in London. As it were, the Nigerian Constitution does not insist that the Council of State Meeting must be held inside Nigeria. The main subject of that first historic, diaspora, Council of State Meeting should be phrased by OBJ in his own unique way: “Momodu: are you well or sick?”

There is something called the separation of powers. I don’t want to disrespect mi’lords but I think they too should go to London. The National Judicial Council (NJC) should put together a high-powered delegation of judges from every part of the country, from all divisions, and level, to proceed post-haste to London to visit, no, to confer with President Buhari on matters of judicial interest to the nation. But Sirs, don’t go there and talk about the welfare of judges, or the non-payment of your entitlements – if you try that, well, I won’t be in a position to tell you what awaits you on your return. You know mi’lords, as well as I do, that the law in Nigeria is now being made to look truly like an ass!

After the judges, okay may be the Nigerian Bar Association should also send a delegation, but I don’t trust many of our lawyers. They think they know the law, and they could go to London and say things that will disrupt the President’s working leave. To make that impossible, members of the NBA should be booked on an Arik flight to London, please. But if they get there, fine. The next delegation should be that of Permanent Secretaries. These ones should spend more than a week in London with the President. In fact, they can stay with him till he returns. If they also have medical issues, they should use the opportunity to ask for tests, with the condition that they must return immediately the President leaves London, notwithstanding the status of their own medical tests!

Once the Permanent Secretaries have been fully accommodated in London, the Ministers, those who were once dismissed by their own employer as “noise-makers”, and who have proven to be no better, should also visit London. They can go ahead and make as much noise as they wish in London and even enjoy the benefit of a full Federal Executive Council Meeting. I suspect that this will be a particularly productive FEC meeting. If the people in the Foreign Affairs Ministry know what they are doing, however, they would arrange ahead of that meeting in London, a special meeting with Theresa May, Prime Minister of Great Britain, followed by a dinner with Her Majesty the Queen of England, with a proviso, please, please, please, that nobody should bring up the issue of Biafra or Southern Kaduna after shaking the Queen’s hand, and there should be a strict guarantee that President Buhari will be accompanied by his extremely beautiful wife, Aisha, and he will not, meeting the Queen, no matter how excited, make the mistake of referring to “za oza room”.

Stop laughing, my friend; this is how you people cause problems for innocent writers. What I am now trying to add having made all these points above, is that the Governors’ Forum should also visit President Buhari in London. The Governors have already signified their intention to do so and that seems to be fine with the Nigerian public. The Governors should therefore appoint representatives who should proceed to London. When they meet with the President, they should hold a special prayer session with three prayer points: one, that President Buhari will not work for another person to come and eat; two: that the demons of Aso Rock will spare and forgive him and his family; three: that President Buhari will return to Nigeria with his two feet. The Governor to lead the prayer should be Peter Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State.

If he starts sounding as he has been sounding in recent times, Nasir el-Rufai should be asked to take the microphone from him. And if Nasir sounds like he is playing politics, as he has been doing, Adams Oshiomhole who will like to be there anyway, as a Governor ex-officio, should be given the microphone and asked to pray for the President as best as he can or as best as Trotsky could.

I have left out some people. In the past month, some Imams and ulamas and concerned relatives have been reported in the media, holding prayer sessions for a hale and hearty President who is just in London to enjoy the weather and do some quality check-ups, private and public. These prayer warriors have prayed and prayed in Abuja, Daura, Borno and everywhere else. The matter is so serious that nobody should be surprised if Rochas Okorocha or James Ibori organizes a prayer session for Muhammadu Buhari. This is the biggest business in Nigeria at this moment.

I think, therefore, that we should also encourage the ulamas and the imams to visit. Let them go to London and pray for their President. We have been told they have been sending prayers through skype, whatsapp and the air, the same channels that GSM service providers in Nigeria now want to block. Let the imams go to London then and let the verses of the Holy Quoran rain down. It will be unfair not to allow Christian leaders to go to London too. They are also anxious to go to London. Pastor Tunde Bakare, my beloved, secondary school senior should lead that team. His job should be to screen out any Pastor with Biafra, or Southern Kaduna or pro-PDP blood in him or her. I mean Pastors like Reno Omokri, Ebun Adegboruwa…. you get what I am saying? The prayer should be commissioned!

Traditional rulers, bloggers, public intellectuals, trolls, and journalists! Oh, I almost forgot. I think we should also be invited to London to have tea with the President. I volunteer to lead that team but if I am considered unpopular, since they say I am not one of them, let @ikhide, @akaebube, or @dejiadeyanju, @realFFK, or @YeleSowore, be the team leader. But please, ....

Religion / Modern Christianity And Ancestral Onslaught by Chizgold: 11:48pm On Feb 20, 2017
There is a growing trend in my kindred group that troubles me exceedingly. And I suspect it is a trend that is not unique to my kindred group, it might be the case in other kindred groups and communities.

On occasion, I have received friend requests on Facebook, and upon a quick review, I have observed that the requesters’ names did not ring a bell. However, being the global citizen that I am, I have approved such requests, and became friends with them. However, when I start receiving messages in my Facebook inbox where such friends address me in intimate fraternal and familial terms, suggesting that they are more than friends – they are family, I am forced to ask them who they are. Surprisingly, it turns out that they are indeed closer to me than mere friends and acquaintances. It turns out they are my kindred members who have altered their last names.

I call this a growing trend because it is not a one off thing. Now I have three such cases in my kindred circle alone. I have cousins who write their ancestral last names as Eziokwu. I thought it was a mistake, and called the attention of one of them to it. He confirmed to me that it was not a mistake; that it was indeed deliberate. That he and his siblings decided that Eziokwu made better sense than Eziekwu, which is their ancestral name. Another cousin kept referring to me as ‘brother’, but it was difficult for me to recognize her because her Facebook last name is Chukwuesodo, and we have no such last name anywhere in Igboland, not just in my kindred circle. Her correct ancestral name is Aniesodo. Her explanation? That Aniesodo, because of the root word, Ani (Earth), is paganesque. To cure that, she has decided to substitute Ani for Chukwu (God). What ignorance! The third case involves yet another kindred member. In his case, with the approval of his priest, he has baptismally altered his ancestral last name from Egwuonwu to Egwuatu. Like the Aniesodo-Chukwuesodo change, this brother believes that his ancestral name is the determinant and predictor of his fate.

Interestingly, these last-name alterations are not just your Facebook identity fad; these are formally documented last name changes. From my inquiry, these last name changes have the imprimatur, and I suspect the urging, of religious and spiritual mentors – priests and pastors. I have one evidence that it occurred during adult baptism. And that is troubling, to say the least.

Why should a priest or pastor advise and encourage anybody to do such damage to their identity? Why should the church promote such nonsensical travesty? Do these folks realize that with such ancestral name alterations, they have assumed entirely new identities? Do they realize that by such actions, they have not only severed ties with their ancestral heritage, but that they have also denounced their forbearers? Who is behind this nonsense? Which ignorant and half-taught priests and pastors have made it their business to destroy African ancestral identity? This must be stopped! This is the worst form of cultural ignorance.

Ironically, in my native community, and I come from a Catholic community, the first and the foremost indigenous priest is Rev. Fr. (Professor) Christian Anieke. Professor Anieke is the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu. Like I said, the first indigenous priest my community produced. Notice his ancestral last name – Anieke. If there is theological validity to the logic that has driven ancestral last name alterations, would Professor Anieke not have been the first to do that? Would he not long ago, following the logic of Aniesodo-Chukwuesodo change, have denounced Anieke for Chukwueke?

Coincidentally, Professor Christian Anieke took over the administration of Institute of Ecumenical Studies, Thinkers Corner, Enugu, from late Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Stan Ani. Yes, Stan Ani, not Stan Chukwu. As for Egwuonwu-Egwuatu change, I know that there are priests and pastors who go by the last name Egwuonwu.

Who is behind this dangerous cultural brainwash? Why should any priest or pastor make it their business to impugn and destroy ancestral identities? The theory that one’s ancestral name is correlated to one’s destiny is not just spurious, it is downright silly and stupid. That pseudo-theology is debunked by the successes of men like Professor Chris Anieke, Late Dr. Stan Ani, Gov. Chimaroke Nnamani, Late Justice Anthony Aniagolu, Late Ozonnagbo Anieke, Ego Nnamani-Boyo, – to name just a few.

This must stop!

Those behind this sort of dangerous Christianity must cease and desist. Our ancestral identity and heritage must be honored, preserved and protected, not desecrated, denounced, and destroyed by a bunch of overzealous priests and pastors. Rather than nominally severing ties with our ancestors, we should be erecting memorial statues and landmarks in their names.

There is nothing sinful about Igbo ancestral names. What I consider sinful is what seems like an organized Christian religious effort to delegitimize our ancestors and severe their ties to their offspring. That is the worst form of expropriation. It is a sin against God himself, being in violation of the Fifth and Tenth Commandments – “Honor thy father and thy mother”, and “Thou shall not covet”, respectively. And God hates it when His Commandments are violated, especially by those who know them, or ought to know them, the most. He does.

Politics / El Rufai’s Hypocrisy And Tacit Support Of Terrorism by Chizgold: 2:21pm On Feb 20, 2017
Since January, when the Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El Rufai went on international television, Al Jazeera, and openly threatened (in a manner reminiscent of a secondary school head boy suddenly aware of his powers, and fully intent on using it to bully others) to clampdown on those posting “false” information about the Southern Kaduna massacre, microscopic eyes have turned on him. It was a case of a governor, in a democratic nation, openly boasting that he will clampdown on freedom of speech!

Granted that in talking about the massacre in the Kaduna, many had blown the narrative out of proportion, yet it was not enough for a leader to decide on his own to shutdown the people’s expression of their feelings, because for him, such expressions are “inflammatory”. Truth is, what is “inflammatory” to him, in his cosy government house apartment, could be a downright emotional expression of the direct pains being felt by the people.

And in expressing their feelings, the people are bound to often times sensationalise them. El Rufai should know this, and of course, he had himself done something similar a few years ago.

In 2009, the now governor of Kaduna state, who is now arresting people for “spreading fake news”, generated a highly spread fake news about Turai Yar’adua running a cabal at Aso Rock. The story was meant to get citizens to mount pressure on the government and get Jonathan to become president. But that story was a lie and could have led to a breach of peace in the country, yet El Rufai planted that fake news with the intention of rescuing the country from the captivity that Yar’adua’s continued absence was causing. His intentions were perhaps noble ,but it does not detract from the fact that he created a lie, to achieve it. In fact he agreed to doing that! Read;

On the way, Balat, himself a former minister in Obasanjo’s government, asked, ‘Segun, this cabal thing, were you really a member?’

Before I could respond, former Federal Capital Territory minister, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, who played a prominent role in the campaign that eventually brought Jonathan to power, interjected, ‘There was no cabal, WE CREATED THE MYTH IN THE MEDIA TO NEUTRALIZE TURAI'” (Adeniyi, Segun. Power Politics And Death. pg. 272. Our emphasis)

What it means then is that Mr. El Rufai accepted at that time that one can create a fake scenario, in order to achieve a greater good. But about eight years later, now in power as part of the executive, the once proponent of propaganda to achieve a greater good arrested Audu Makori for being a good student of his! Why is that so? Because he wants the good of the ordinary people? Or is he protecting a certain class? The class he said whoever kills owes a death of blood to? The ones he paid for “killing” while he arrested the killed who spoke up?

El Rufai must be an enigma!

It is really difficult to know if he is pro-terrorism or anti-terrorism. The arrest of Audu Makori, the expected arrest of Ndi Kato, El Rufai’s threat on international TV all show a determination to clampdown on the anti-terrorism (herdsmen) group!

Why is it that when it comes to the issue of the herdsmen’s killing, Mr. El-Rufai is more defensive of the herdsmen? On international TV, he claimed that the herdsmen were coming from outside Nigeria (to show how incredulous that claim was, the presenters put up a map of Nigeria, and pointed at Kaduna which was at a central place, and asked if the governor meant that the herdsmen had to go through at least two Nigerian states to come to Southern Kaduna to kill? All for what?). Then with the next breath, he pointed out that the crises are decades old and have been intermittent between the two factions. So in one breath, they came from outside Nigeria, and in the next one, they have been living among the people and have been having clashes with them! The lack of consistence reeks of an attempt at covering up something!

But if Mallam El-Rufai has been inconsistent in his narrative of who and where the herdmen come from, and how exactly to deal with them (at one point he paid them! Perhaps as payment for killing?), he has been extremely consistent in one aspect; identifying those speaking out against the killings, and “dealing” with them! Which raises the question; “who is the governor for?”

The Southern Kaduna situation has gotten the attention of the international community through the campaigns and sharing of information by people like Audu Makori. Granted that some of the images and information are false, but like El-Rufai and the cabal story in 2009, they achieved their set purpose–to force the...

Politics / Breaking: Gov. Ikpeazu Moves To Join APC by Chizgold: 2:07pm On Feb 20, 2017
Reports from Umuahia say that the embattled Abia State governor, Dr. Victor Okezie Ikpeazu has begun high level consultations on a crossover to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This revelation was made by a source very close to the governor. According to the source, several strategy meetings have been going on between the governor and key political figures in the state since December. The meetings were aimed at finding a way out of the threat posed by Uche Ogah’s moves in the court to ensure that Governor Ikpeazu is sacked as the governor of the state.

According to the source, there is an agreement already on ground between Uche Ogah and the APC, that he will defect to the APC if they help him win the case currently being heard at the Supreme Court. This agreement they say, has heightened Mr. Ogah’s chances of winning the case and thus becoming the Governor of Abia State. The source said that with the APC desperate to have a solid foothold in the South East, the party’s chieftains are committed to helping whoever will defect to the APC win the court case.

With the above scenario likely going to decide who wins the case, Governor Ikpeazu and his allies have begun to strategize on possibly defecting to the APC. This, the source say, would improve the governor’s chances of winning.

If Governor Ikpeazu defects, it is expected that top ranking politicians from the state, will defect with him, thus effectively making Abia State an...

Romance / A Relationship Will Only Be As Good As The Sex by Chizgold: 3:04pm On Feb 18, 2017
A relationship will only be as good as the sex.

We can make a list about what brings and keeps two people together. We can talk about compatibility and shared ambitions and goals, but if a certain sexual chemistry isn’t there, nothing in the world can make up for it.

There is a reason why sex is important for couples. With physical connection, we are able to gain greater insight to our subconscious connection.

We all experience intimacy differently, but we all crave relationships that cater to our current mental, spiritual and emotional states. This craving for intimacy binds us together.

Regardless of religious beliefs, there is no ignoring the cultural and historical importance of sex between lovers. It’s used to consummate a marriage, achieve spiritual ascension or even open the third eye through kundalini awakening.

Sex is the vehicle for our love.
So, what happens when the sex just isn’t great?

The first thing we have to do is get real with ourselves; we have be honest about why the sex isn’t measuring up. Are we mentally or emotionally disconnected from our lover? Is there a lack of total trust? Are insecurities, from one or both of us, inhibiting our openness to the experience? Have we submitted to roles within the relationship yet?

All of these questions are necessary for discovering why the sex isn’t measuring up, and what this means for the relationship.

I believe that the best sex and the best relationships are one and the same. Amazing sex—soul dipping, erotic, eye-gazing, toe-curling sex—can’t be had with someone we only lust after. This type of sex can only happen when we have submitted to one another.

But what does this mean?

Submitting to one another is a mutual exchange of energy. It means that we are completely opening ourselves up to…

Politics / SGF Babachir Lawal Is Irresponsible-- Dino Melaye by Chizgold: 7:46am On Feb 18, 2017
Senator Dino Melaye has described the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), David Babachir Lawal as lacking in integrity and a sense of responsibility. He made this observation while reacting once again to the N250 million grass cutting fraud allegation levelled against the SGF.

“I have insisted that on his honour the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, ought to have resigned by now like I said the last time, he should be reciting the psalms and asking for mercy."

“But unfortunately, it is when we start punishing criminals in power, when we start punishing thieves in power, when Nigerians stop celebrating mediocrity and corruption that we will begin to have headway."

Senator Melaye stated that if there was any modicum of leadership responsibility in Mr. Lawal, he would have taken the path of honour and resigned.

He blamed the audacity which men such as the SGF have to continue to commit impunity to society's penchant to celebrate and defend corrupt people.

“These days, a man steals money from government and what you do is to celebrate him; then we cannot get out of the woods. Let me say that in an unjust society, silence is a crime."

“People who abuse processes and the laws of the land must be questioned. We must all get out of cocoons and begin to ask questions. It is laughable that Babachir Lawal is still seating in council as SGF. I mean, it does not portray any sense of responsibility at any level."

Politics / Breaking: Buhari Undergoes Penis Surgery by Chizgold: 4:57pm On Feb 17, 2017
Nine-month-old Buhari Muhammad, whose genital was cut off by his step-mother, has undergone first corrective surgery at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Bida, Niger. Mrs Mariam Kolo, the Director-General of the state Child Rights Protection Agency, made this known in an interview with newsmen in Minna on Friday.

Kolo told journalists that the surgery was part of the series of operations that the boy would undergo.

“He was operated upon by four neurologists and he is responding to treatment. Several other tests will still be conducted to prepare him for the next operation,’’ Kolo said.

Recall that Muhammad’s genital was cut off by his 17-year-old step mother, Bara’atu Muhammad, when he was barely a month old. The incident occurred in Dafe community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger in June 2016. The step-mother had confessed that she took the action because she was jealous and that she also wanted to get back at the victim’s mother, whom, she claimed was always insulting her. Muhammad was subsequently remanded in...

Family / Re: Who Owns The Matrimonial Home, The Husband Or The Wife? by Chizgold: 4:38pm On Feb 15, 2017
Even in the so called western culture the woman can not take an inherited property because it not part of a community property... Any property before marriage is considered personal property, while everything acquired during marriage is considered as community property which will be shared 50/50

Richy4:
Hmmm!!!!The whole write up reeks of western culture....

<<<I just have a question here...So a man that inherited an ancestral home will vacate the home that they have been living for decades for the wife and look an alternative living arrangement if they do not want to live together anymore because according to you it's their "matrimonial home"?

<<<Some of the things you guys post on African website are not really African ways of life...It might have been working for the westerners because that was their culture and ways of life...Certain law can uphold in Britain for example but will not hold water in any other nation

Family / Who Owns The Matrimonial Home, The Husband Or The Wife? by Chizgold: 5:14pm On Feb 11, 2017
Have you ever made a statement such as:

“If a man doesn’t want to continue with the marriage, he should not beat his wife, he should send her back to her father” or “Instead of beating her, send her back to her father’s house”

If you had, then you are wrong, and I will explain why. Before I do that, I want you to consider the following alternative reasoning:

“If the woman doesn’t want the marriage anymore, she should send him back to his mother”

Of course, such statement would be ridiculous. But that is also how ridiculous it is when you think you should send the woman back to her father’s house.

This is the law: When a man and woman get married and they begin to live together, the place they live together is called their matrimonial home. That is where they live as husband and wife. The husband is not a landlord of the wife and the wife is not a tenant of the husband. Neither is landlord nor tenant. They are husband and wife and the place is their matrimonial home. It does not matter whether the man built the house before he married the woman. It is their matrimonial home.

Therefore, none of them can send the other out of their matrimonial home. It is the court and the court alone that will determine who stays and who leaves. Even if you built the house way before you married her, you cannot ask her to leave. And you cannot think of sending her back to her father. That is so so stupid and it is totally against the law. She is not a child. Your wife is not a child. So, you cannot send her back to anybody. She does not belong to her father’s house. She has left that house and established her own house with you. And that is her home.

Now, what will you do if you are fed up with your wife? Simple: pack your bag and leave. The court will eventually determine who should stay in the matrimonial home and who should go. Alternatively, if you are wise and rich, you call your wife and say:

“I have got an alternative place for you. It is comfortable and well-located as this one. I think I should stay here while you move over to the other house because I have got my office here and it will cost me a lot more to move than it will cost you to move.”

If she wants, she will agree. Otherwise, she has the right to say no. In that case, you should leave and wait for the court to direct her to move into the alternative home.

Any idea that the man can tell his wife to leave their matrimonial home is stupid and unlawful. As far as living in that house is concerned, the man has no greater right than the woman. Now, don’t get me wrong. The house may actually be owned exclusively by the husband if he had that house before he married you. That is his house. The house will not suddenly become the wife’s house. The wife may

Politics / TRENDING PHOTO: Tuface ‘joins’ Tinubu, Akande And Buhari In London by Chizgold: 11:14am On Feb 11, 2017
The photo of renowned musician Tuface Idibia has started trending in the social media few days after it was widely reported that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu, and the former interim APC chairman, Bisi Akande, visited President Muhammadu Buhari in London on Thursday.

The president had announced this on his official Twitter handle with a photograph showing the trio accompanying his tweet.

But on Saturday morning, the APC allegedly released another photograph with Tuface, sitting in between Tinubu and Buhari and Akande sitting at the other end on the room during the purported visit to London.

Reacting to the trending photo, Lere Olayinka, the media aide to the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose told Ikenga Chronicles in an exclusive chat via whatsapp:

“So Tuface Idibia also joined Tinubu and Bisi Akande To Visit Buhari in London?”

‘’Ayam Laffin in Tulfude Language. Hissssssssssssh’’

Politics / EXCLUSIVE: Letting Buhari Contest In 2019 Would Be A Mistake –APC by Chizgold: 10:06am On Feb 11, 2017
Threatened by the re-positioning of the much talked about mega party and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of 2019, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is contemplating replacing President Muhammadu Buhari due to his failing health and dwindling political influence.

With the General Elections in the country a little over two years away, the next 12 months will be strategic for political realignments in the quest for power at the centre as the two major political parties– APC, and the PDP– jostle for power.

Ikenga Chronicles learnt that political gladiators eyeing the presidency have already started positioning themselves for the 2019 contest. There are strong indications that the much talked about mega opposition party will be formed before the end of the first quarter of 2017.

This is as the interim national chairman of the proposed mega party–Action Democratic Party (ADP)–Yagbagi Sani, led his members two weeks ago to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)where he officially commenced the application process of the association to be registered as a party. He has already declared his prospective party will dislodge both APC and PDP in 2019. However, with the ongoing alignments and re-alignments in the nation’s political space, the race for the 2019 elections can only get more dramatic.

A highly placed APC source told Ikenga Chronicles on Saturday morning that the greatest mistake that the APC would make is to re-feature Buhari in 2019.

‘’The APC has started meeting to see the need to convince the president to shelve his 2019 ambition. Featuring Buhari in 2019 would be the greatest mistake APC would make.”

He added: ‘’ There is need to shop for Buhari’s replacement or else, the so called mega party and the PDP would sweep the APC out of Aso Rock’’

Meanwhile, the ADP has started wooing members of the ruling APC and PDP, dangling a plethora of strategic positions. Evidently, ADP intends to re-enact the APC merger.

But, unlike the APC, the road may not be so rosy for the said new mega party as findings have revealed that besides the plan to form the party, those involved in the talks were also considering adopting any of the existing political platforms.

Politics / Facts And Lies Of A Dying President: Jonathan’s ‘doctrine Of Necessity’ And Buha by Chizgold: 10:09am On Feb 09, 2017
Today, Thursday, February 9, 2017 appears to be fortuitous in many more ways than one. Coincidentally, on this day, the country is contending with the health concerns of its number one citizen, President Muhammadu Buhari just as it did over half a decade ago.

Indeed, this day, exactly seven years ago, on February 9, 2010, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, was proclaimed acting President of Nigeria on the orders of Nigeria’s National Assembly using the ‘doctrine of necessity.’

He succeeded President Umar Musa Yar’Adua who had been hospitalised at a Saudi Arabia hospital, and absent from presidential duties, for over two months beginning November 23, 2009.

Years after, many believe that invocation of the ‘doctrine of necessity’, as exercised by the then National Assembly, saved the country a major constitutional crisis that would have shaken the very foundations of the fragile federation.

The crisis itself had been stirred by late President Yar’Adua who, working with some members of his kitchen cabinet, decided to steal out of the country without formally transmitting authority and power to his deputy, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan.

The reasons for his inaction or action remain largely a matter of conjecture though there were widely held speculations at the time that a certain ‘cabal’ within the presidency did not want a power shift as it was the turn of the ‘north’ to call the shots at the centre.

The first push towards resolving the administrative mess created by Yar’Adua began in December 2009 when the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) alerted the nation on the dangers inherent in the late President not formally ceding powers to his deputy.

This was followed by a Supreme Court ruling on January 22, 2010 directing the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to, within fourteen days, resolve on whether the ailing President was ‘incapable of discharging the functions of his office’. The ruling also ordered that FEC should hear testimony of five doctors, one of whom should be Yar’Adua’s personal physician.

The intrigues that followed, coupled with massive call by civil society organizations for immediate resolution of the crisis, pushed the National Assembly to controversially invoke the ‘doctrine of necessity’ on February 9, 2010, thus effectively installing Goodluck Jonathan as acting President of the country.

On February 24, 2010, Yar’Adua stole back into the country under the cover of darkness and returned to Aso Rock, the seat of power. It remained very obvious, with all the secrecy that attained his journey back from Saudi Arabia, that he was unfit to continue. He died on May 5, 2010.

It is reassuring that incumbent President Buhari, in spite of his health challenges, has been proclaimed hale and hearty and not even on admission in any hospital. To his credit also is the fact that, in his absence, no
constitutional gaps has been left unattended to as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is rightfully in charge.

Be that as it may, concerns still mount over inherent gaps in the present constitution that fail to address methods of dealing with the vexed issue of ‘power shift’ by political parties in the event that their choice candidates become...

Sports / My Best Is Yet To Come- Ibrahimovic by Chizgold: 7:47am On Feb 07, 2017
Man United striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has stated that his best is yet to come as his target for the season is still short.

Ibrahimovic who scored his 20th of the campaign in Manchester United’s 3-0 win at champions Leicester City on Sunday however said he will not disclose what his target is for the season.

The 35-year-old became the first United player to hit the 20-goal mark since Robin van Persie scored 30 in the 2013-14 season, while he simultaneously became the oldest player in history to score 15 in the Premier League.

But the Sweden insisted afterwards that he has a figure in mind for his debut campaign in the Premier League, and 20 is not enough for him even if he doesn’t expect to come close to the 50 he scored in his final season at Paris Saint- Germain.

“I have a target in my head but I will not say it. We are not there yet!” he told reporters.

“This is something I have been doing every year, and this is nothing new for me… I keep producing.

“I have 20 and seven assists, so the statistics so far are the same region as other years except for last year because that was a crazy year.

“I still produce and do my best and I get a lot of help from my teammates. I know there were many people saying I would not even score 20, but that is not what I focus on.

“For me the main objective is to help my team win, do the best and afterwards we will see what happens. As for the 20, we have some games left so hopefully it will become more.”.....

Politics / FREEZE! You Are All Under Arrest!–buhari by Chizgold: 8:33am On Feb 06, 2017
Prior to the 2015 General elections, Goodluck Jonathan to many right thinking Nigerians, was probably not a worthy candidate. So much mismanagement and corruption had taken place under Jonathan that everybody felt it was time for him to go. Moreso, the Chibok girls had been abducted, and unbelief, underlined by the gross politicization of the entire issue made it impossible for the then president to handle the issue with the urgency and determination that it deserved. So necessarily, with Jonathan turning out to be so incompetent, he had to go.

However, when the All Progressives Congress(APC) selected Muhammadu Buhari, a famed former dictator, with no pedigree of respect for human rights, as their presidential candidate, the choice of several people immediately changed to Jonathan. Better to manage an improving president who has the utmost respect for human rights than return Nigeria to the hey days of military dictatorship.

But there were others who would rather Nigeria returned to a dictatorship than return a democrat, so they sold Buhari as Nigeria’s messiah—the one who will come and with one wave of his magical wand, change our circumstances. The people gobbled it all up and post-inauguration, optimistically waited for a new dawn.

It was a dawn that has now refused to come, as the country was thrown further into darkness. Buhari, the leopard who would never change its spots, in addition to heaping untold suffering on the people, systematically began a clampdown on all opposing voices, with the sole intent of returning the country to its previous military status.

Olisa Metuh spoke out, and was shut up by the EFCC. Femi Fani-Kayode dared speak up against the government’s cluelessness, he was barricaded with dozens of corrupt accusations. Ayodele Fayose, the sole opposition voice remaining, is daily being persecuted by Buhari and his dogs. Fayose’s sole protection is the cloak of immunity that he still wears as the governor of Ekiti state. Remove that cloak, and the outspoken governor will be cooling his feet at Kirikiri.

On the part of ordinary citizens, members of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) who are peacefully asking for their own nation are constantly murdered by Buhari’s security forces for daring to speak. Apostle Johnson Suleiman, maverick clergyman, who had witnessed the constant butchering of innocent Christians dared to speak out about it, and was hurled in by Buhari’s Department of State Services(DSS). The motto is simple; speak out against Buhari, and face arrest or death.

Then the big one; popular musician, Tuface Idibia decided that he was going to be at the forefront of leading a peaceful protest against bad governance. The movement gathered so much attention that it became Nigerians ultimate vote of no confidence on a sick, MIA, clueless, yet dictatorial president. What did Buhari and his dogs do? They found a way to threaten Tuface and...

Politics / BREAKING: Sick Buhari Extends Vacation Indefinitely by Chizgold: 6:10pm On Feb 05, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly informing it of his desire to extend his vacation.

President Buhari who left Nigeria on 19 January was sscheduled to return today and resume work tomorrow.

But in a statement by Femi Adesina, the special adviser on the media, the president said he would be prolonging the leave to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors.

According to Adesina, the President had planned to return to Abuja this evening, but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning.

“The notice has since been dispatched to the Senate President, and Speaker, House of Representatives”, Adesina said..

“Mr. President expresses his sincere gratitude to Nigerians for their concern, prayers and kind wishes”, he added.

While away, the social media have been writing several fictitious stories about the President’s health. Some reports said the President was dead, others said he was in intensive care, while another even said he was stopped from committing suicide.

Government spokesmen have debunked all the fake news and warned Nigerians to desist from being purveyors of falsehood. The President, according to the spokesmen, is hale and hearty and is in UK for routine medical checks.

On Friday, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, weighed in and called the Buhari’s death wishers, wicked, callous, treacherous and abnormal.

Obasanjo said the Nigerians behind the despicable acts ought to be praying for Buhari’s ”quick recovery” and return to Nigeria.

The ex-President made his position known on Friday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, through his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi.

”Instead of embarking on such worrisome declaration, all that the President needed “are our prayers and best wishes, which will ginger his morale to come back more stronger and better.

“No normal human being will wish an elderly person dead irrespective of their differences.

“If you don’t like him, wait for another election, not going about to say he is dead.

“No matter his health situation, we should pray for him to recover quick and come back more stronger and better. For anyone wishing him dead, such person or group of persons are callous, wicked and treacherous.

“I was also rumoured to have died almost 12 times. I don’t know what they derive from doing so, but they should....

Celebrities / TUFACE: A Faceless About-face by Chizgold: 2:08pm On Feb 05, 2017
After listening to this clip, I have reached the following conclusions:

1. This Tuface guy is a big joke! I think he is too young and too immature for the kind of task he toyed with

2. His childish stunt is capable of undermining the power and credibility of future mass actions in Nigeria

3. He is a fame seeker with neither courage nor conviction

4. He does not seem to care a hoot about the Nigerian masses; he comes across like a guy who just wants to build a personal brand

5. He needs to be cautioned and called to order in the interest of suffering masses on whose pain he rides cattails of cheap fame

6. He is definitely not Nnamdi Kanu; he looks too scared to face pain in jail

7. He should be made to apologize to Nigerians for exploiting and toying with their hopes and emotions for his personal gain

8. It is utterly presumptuous and arrogant of him to record himself in the vernacular and style of a national leader addressing a national audience

9. He has shown himself to be part of the problem, not the solution

10. I understand music brought him to limelight. He should stick to music. If he wants to be taken seriously, let him engage in social activism through the medium of his songs. The world could use another Fela Kuti

11. For now, Tuface should vacate the stage and go away. The more he records this sort of amateur clip, the more he embarrasses himself

12. Enough...

Politics / Restructuring Is The Solution To Ethnic And Religious Crisis - Jonathan by Chizgold: 8:03am On Feb 03, 2017
Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday backed Atiku Abubakar and other eminent Nigerians by adopting restructuring and true federalism as the way out of ethnic and religious crisis in Nigeria.

Recall that Atiku was the first recent northern politician to clamour for restructuring and true federalism as the panacea to Nigeria’s problems.

Jonathan said this during a meeting with the United States House of Representatives sub-committee on threats of religious intolerance in Nigeria and the Niger Delta question.

According to a statement by the former president’s media aide, Jonathan was invited to speak in his capacity as the chairman of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation.

He also identified impunity as a factor which had contributed to the reoccurrence of such violence, noting that if those behind previous violence were not prosecuted, people of like mind and groups would be emboldened to repeat the same act.

Jonathan talked about his efforts to end impunity, specifically citing the case of Kabiru Sokoto, the mastermind of the Christmas Day bombing of Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger state who was arrested, prosecuted, convicted and imprisoned by his administration and was the first successful prosecution of a terrorist attack on a place of worship in Nigeria’s history.

He said: “That promise was fulfilled on the 20th of December 2013 when Kabiru Umar, aka Kabiru Sokoto, was sentenced to life imprisonment after my administration investigated that crime, identified him as the mastermind, arrested him and diligently prosecuted him and some of his associates.”

Jonathan also noted that his administration’s prosecution of the perpetrators of the deadly bombing of an office of the Independent National Electoral Commission also in Madalla on April 8, 2011 was the first successful prosecution of terrorists in Nigeria.

While supporting the 2014 National Conference’s recommendation for an Independent Religious Equity Commission to be set up to apprehend and arrest perpetrators of ethnic and religious violence, Jonathan maintained that ending impunity would also mean ending the tension associated with the unending impunity in the country.

On the Niger Delta, the former President said he fully aligned with the views of the 2014 National Conference which called for true and fiscal federalism as the way out of agitation in the region and in other parts of Nigeria as interventionist agencies like the Niger Delta Development Commission was not effective due to...

Religion / I Will Lead Biafra Agitation-rev Fr. Mbaka by Chizgold: 10:09pm On Feb 02, 2017
It was shocking as Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry Enugu has vowed to spearhead the actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra.

In new video which was published online, the fiery Catholic priest while speaking Igbo language during the sermon said he will join the course for
Biafra agitation if the Igbo elites come out.

The sermon reads in part:

“Please, nobody should tell you again that the Igbos are forsaken. We believe in nonsense. If poor children should begin agitating for Biafra, there is nothing bad in Biafra agitation. But we are still saying it strongly; those who said it is Biafra that we want now, let them come out let us see the cream of the Igbos. All of us will go about it. All these poor children agitating in the streets will go behind us.”

“For a father prays that his son become greater than him. What will happen to the child should happen to me. That is the prayer of the father. We are not saying there shouldn’t be agitation for Biafra. But let out political cream, those with whom the land stands with: If you come to Anambra, people like Ekwueme, Peter Obi, Emeka Ofor, and all the Uba’s that fill Anambra, all of them will come out, you come to Enugu, all the likes of Ekweremadu, Ken Nnamani, what Enugu state stands gallant with, Sullivan, all of us will come out.”

“Both the political and the spiritual, all the likes of Pius Anyim, its all of us that will go the journey of demanding for Biafra. Not our children who are trading, they are shooting to death our children. Where are those people?”

“They all have hidden in Abuja and abroad. Am not saying let the Igbos be killed. Am not saying Biafra agitation should not be done. But those who will be at the fore-front; If there are people from Amogu who are here, they will tell you that I came there on Wednesday at night. They were shooting guns and bullets were raining everywhere.”

“There were some children I sent on an errand but i was the first to seat there and they knew it was me who came. What would happen to those children, let it happen to Mbaka. Jesus said, instead of these people to die, let Him die on their stead. That is a leader! Not when one will go and stay and use poor children for sacrifice.”

“When they are saying what they don’t know, children who don’t have any kobo and “Toro,” children who don’t have money to invest in their businesses, they brought them to the main road. Those who are supposed to go the journey of Biafra actualization are not those children on the main road. When you come to Imo, the likes of Iwuanyanwu should come out.”

“The likes of Pius Anyim and all the likes in Ebonyi will come out. When you come to Owerri, all the big ones they have will come out; those in Abia will come out. Both lay people and Rev. Fathers. When all of us have come out, the crème de la crème of the Igbos, then we will begin the journey for Biafra agitation. We will hold a meeting and know what we want. Once they come out, I (Mbaka) will join them o. I will join them. Instead, I will even pay for the flight ticket and we will charter a plane and go. So that they should stop killing our children!”

“Did they say the children and the police should fight? Anyone they shoot to death, we begin to endure. There is no one of them saying that that loves the Igbos more than I do. If you want to be a leader, just come out fully and become it.”

“I said, when Obasanjo froze the container of cement belonging to Ibeto on the high sea and it was trying to expire, I entered flight from here and went to meet Obasanjo face-to-face. I went and met him in Aso Rock and told him that I am finished. That the children of the Igbo tribe said I should ask you, what has the Igbos done to you?”

“And you say let the children be roaming the streets on the pretext that they are agitating for Biafra? When the street dog is killed, then you know the owner.

I don’t believe in cowardice. If the time is ripe for when we will have the said Biafra, then those for whom the land muscles with, come, say a venue and let all these poor children get behind and let the....

Politics / PROTEST: Buhari In Face To Face With 2face by Chizgold: 6:43pm On Feb 02, 2017
I’m afraid Buhari and his handlers are about to create another Nnamdi Kanu. What is all this noise about not allowing 2Face Idibia to lead a protest in Lagos?

When will African leaders recognize that protest is a protected human right? Protest is a negotiation tactic employed by the masses in their political engagement with their government. People go on protest when they believe their conditions are hopeless and they cannot get their government’s attention otherwise.

A government that cracks down on peaceful protests is an irresponsible government. It is impeachable. And it is the clearest evidence of a government that does not feel secure in its policies and performance.

When government engages in suppressive and oppressive tactics, it unwittingly canonizes ordinary folks. I don’t remember ever hearing the name 2Face Idibia, but now I’m writing about him. I’m writing about him because the Buhari government is persecuting him for engaging in the political process.

What will be next, arrest 2Face and throw him in jail? And make him a hero? If people discover that the shortest path to fame is being jailed by a government that feels very insecure in its own skin, more and more people will embrace protest and go to jail. The last mistake Buhari and his handlers don’t want to make is to create an atmosphere where being jailed by government for protest is seen as a badge of honor.

Allow 2Face Idibia to lead his protest. Deploy police, fire service, and medical team to ensure order and safety of the protesters. Buhari government not only must allow the protest to hold, it has an obligation to ensure the safety of the protesters. Nnamdi Kanu is enough headache for the government as it is, adding 2Face Idibia is a....

Art, Graphics & Video / EXCLUSIVE: My Art Works Are Expressions Of Experiences–oresegun by Chizgold: 7:47am On Feb 02, 2017
All around the globe people are singing the praises of a Lagos born painter, Oresegun Olumide’s whose hyper-realistic paintings have gone viral on the internet. With his special brush, Oresegun breathes life into work of arts. Born into the prestigious Balogun Kuku clan of Ijebu Ode, Oresegun, 35 graduated from Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, with a distinction in Fine Arts. His hyper-realistic oil paintings took the internet by storm after he posted a few photos of his new art on his Facebook page last year. Oresegun said those postings earned his life-like work more than 200,000 shares on Facebook.

In a no -holds-barred exclusive interview with Ikenga Chronicles, on Wednesday, February, 1, Oresegun gives a bird’s eye view of his latest work, his inspiration, what art means to him, and what the future holds.

Below, we bring highlights.

“I have been able to push my realism to a certain level which people can reckon with, because most people don’t reckon with realism in Africa,” he said.

He recalled that he has been painting for almost 10 years, but after posting photos of his art on his Instagram and Facebook pages, his work went viral from around 400 to more than 37,000 views. His paintings have also been shared thousands of times on Twitter, Snapchat, and other social media platform.

For Oresegun, art is a means through which everyday experiences can be recreated, much like what writers do.

Speaking on his latest work, he said: ‘’I am currently working on a painting based on the experience I had when I was growing up by living in a face-me-I face-you compound. In the painting, I tried to reflect a female child helping her mother to pack oranges inside a basket. Some of the oranges ended up inside the basket while some are falling away. I also try to describe in my artistic work the passion of a typical female Nigerian child trying to help her mother amidst the frustration of picking the falling oranges.’’

According to him, his love for art began at around 4 years old, and he was encouraged by his elder brother who draws, and mother, who provided him with drawing books to practice his skill.

“I was born into the family of 4. I have an older brother that draws. We kept on drawing right from childhood. My parents encouraged me to draw by giving me all the necessary support. So my delving into art was deliberate because my passion in drawing and painting started from childhood.’’

On how he draws inspiration, he said: “At a tender age I was fascinated by so many things that surrounded me and I wished to replicate what is in my surroundings. Not only that I enjoy what I am doing. I went into art for....

Politics / Federal Government To Arrest All Those Insulting Buhari On Social Media? by Chizgold: 7:27am On Feb 01, 2017
Yesterday was a very eventful one for me. As a full-fledged Nigerian citizen committed to always doing what is right for my country, I had casually responded to some information which showed that our president, Muhammadu Buhari has continued to flout court orders, thus reneging on his oath of office, wherein he vowed to uphold the constitution of Nigeria.

Some minutes before my criticism of the Buhari government, I had engaged in a verbal war with a close associate of Buhari’s favoured son (the poster child of corruption) and Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi during which I was referred to as a full anti-APC writer. My feeble attempts at explaining that I am just focused on the welfare of Nigerians fell on deaf ears. But that of course does not really matter.

What matters was that throughout yesterday, I have been inundated with calls and messages warning/cajoling/advising me to take my feet off the gas when it comes to anti-Buhari expressions. I was directly told that for my security, I should desist as a clampdown on all social media users who “abuse” the president will soon be engaged in by the Department of State Services (DSS). The warning explicitly stated that such people will be brought in for questioning.

So somehow, we are returning to that time when freedom of expression is no longer the right of citizens. We are back to the time of “respect the ‘King’ or die!”, something I really feared would happen with the election of President Buhari.

Well, no matter the punishment ahead, as a soul, fully Nigerian, I won’t stop talking for the sake of the people of Nigeria. The question for you all is, will You chicken out in the face of this planned intimidation?

Foreign Affairs / Doomsday And The Rise Of The Trumpy-christ by Chizgold: 8:16pm On Jan 31, 2017
Most people who are conversant with the concept of “doomsday”, will tell you that it is the apocalypse, a time when life as we naturally know it will be destroyed. In movies, and well, as the Bible painted it, it begins with lots of disturbances(in the form of riots, destruction of properties, etc). From there, it goes all downhill and breaks into a state of complete anarchy which eventually culminates in a destruction of the status quo.

One more thing; there is always a leader. Somebody at the helm of affairs, under whose guidance, a breakdown of law and order commences. Christians will tell you that this famed leader, is the anti-Christ.

Well, when Barack Obama was in power, and due to is liberal nature, and strong belief that human rights are for ALL humans, and thus every human, no matter where he or she is, deserves to have his/her personal rights respected(which culminated in the endorsement of LGBT rights, and of course his liberal stance on the Israeli-Palestine imbroglio), Mr. Obama was touted in most Christian circles(especially in Africa) as the anti-Christ who had come to destroy the tenets of Christianity. Obama’s crimes were that he believed that every human has the right to express himself sexually as he pleases, provided it does not violate the rights of another, and ,his belief that Palestinians are humans and thus should be attended to, bearing that in mind.

What many failed to understand then was that upholding every man’s human rights is a far cry from being the recipe for the destruction of the world. In fact, as recent events have shown, humans revolt more when they find their rights being forcibly taken away from them, such that they see no other option than to fight to the death to restore those rights. And that is where we may be headed to, as doomsday hurtles towards us.

Since the inauguration of Donald John Trump as the 45th President of the United States, one constant has marred the landscape of not only the US, but some other countries in the world–protests. In fact, some of the protests began immediately after his election. And true to his pre-election stance, Mr. Trump has continued to do things to fuel these protests. About a week into his administration, all hell has broken loose after he has issued Executive Orders restricting the entrance of Muslims into the US, completely banned the entrance of citizens from seven countries into the US, and drastically placed a cap on the entrance of refugees! Trump’s actions reveal his radical stance of “labelling people” and treating all those who fall under the label as the same. His actions grossly destroy the concept of freedom and respect for human rights–tenets on which America’s greatness ironically rest on.

What Trump seems to be unaware of is that the US is like the mother of the entire citizens of the world, and when people can no longer count on the US to uphold certain tenets that give the tiny boy in an African jungle hope, they will lose hope in the world order, and thus believe that it is now everyman for himself. That is a very dangerous trend, and the outrage that has greeted Trump’s orders has sent out clear messages of where the world is headed except if Trump applies the brakes and re-evaluates his position.

Making America great again(if she ever lost her greatness)should entail protecting the fundamental principles for which America is known. It should not entail the destruction of worldwide camaraderie, which has suddenly begun to fuel anti-America sentiments–which ultimately will make America and Americans targets. This seems on its own to be self-explanatory thus one wonders why Trump himself and his many aides have not seen this and applied caution. Have they been deliberately brainwashed, or is there another hand in play?

At the risk of sounding corny, perhaps it is all fated. Maybe Trump was destined to be here at this moment, to kick-start the beginning of an end. Perhaps he is actually the Trumpy-Christ, sent to us by ...
