Enough of Alex Otti's Antagonism

The continued attack, antagonism and politicization of Dr Alex Otti and his past career, by both paid and unpaid media agents of Ikpeazu's administration in Abia State, is a propaganda-smoke screen, to deceive and distract us from the real issues at stake.

Opposition is the heart beat of democracy. We cannot say we are practicing democracy if there are no opposition. Opposition is an alternative and an indirect checkmate to the ruling government. Therefore, if we seek to grow, develop and strength our democracy, then we must encourage and tolerate opposition in our Democratic space. And if that be the case, why Antagonize Otti?. Is his antagonism as an opposition candidate, the usual foul and propaganda tactics of politics?, or is there a sinister plot, motive and personal agenda to perpetuate absolute falsehood, and propagate negative sentiment against the Person of Doctor Alex Otti in a bid to Wipe-up hate and negative sentiment against him from Abians?. Could all these propaganda and continued character assassination of Otti be out of panic and fear that should an opposition party be allowed to take over in Abia, then the bubble will bust on the ruling party?. In any case, i see no reason why the person of Otti should be this dehumanized and bastardized all in the name of politics.

The outright vilification and condemnation of Otti is absolutely unnecessary, it's no longer politics, it seems more of hate and personal grievances than the usual political propaganda. In fact it speaks less of those propagating the propaganda.

The elections have come and gone. What the people of Abia wants is the continued progress and development of the state, and not a continued political propaganda against opposition candidates who contested in the just concluded election.

The duo of Uche Ogar and Alex Otti came out to express their constitutional rights *"To vote and be voted for"* it could have been any other Abian in their shoes. They campaigned and canvassed for votes from fellow Abians, and people voted for them.

That they didn't win should not be a thing of mockery. The political parties which provided them the platform to express their constitutional rights, should not be a laughing stock. Their past career should not be made a thing of public caricature in a bid to lay unfounded accusations on their past careers just to rubbish them publicly.

They contested and were voted, because they and those who voted for them believed that they could offer an alternative and perform better than the current administration if given the opportunity. So why crucify them?

Just as they expressed their right 'to vote and be voted for,' they also reserve the right to seek redress in court, if they are dissatisfied with the outcome of the election.

Haven sought a judicial redress, it is therefore, for the court to look into their claims and asscertions and draw judgement. And just as some believe that Ikpeazu won, their are also those who believe that Otti, Ogah or any of their candidates won.

Issues raised by the opposition parties in the course of their campaign should be looked into by the government of the day to enable them perform better. The issues that will be raised at the tribunal will further guide and strengthen our future elections. So there is nothing wrong for them to seek judicial redress. We should even encourage opposition parties, because it puts the ruling party on its toes and helps the people to demand more from their leaders or seek alternative leadership.

Otti and Ogah should be congratulated and not condemned. The continued aggression and antagonism against them, is no Longer normal but could be seen as a distraction of the people of the state from real issues facing the governance of the state.

The detention of the Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District and Chairman Southeast Senate Caucus who is the current Chairman Senate Committee on Power, Steel and Metallurgy, Senator Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe, by the Department of State Security Services (DSSS) Abuja and subsequent search of his Abuja residence without any explanation is gestapo and reminds one of the sad days of military dictatorship.

The right to free speech as enunciated in the 1999 constitution as amended cannot be suppressed. We are at loss as to what to make of the avalanche of arrests in the immediate past by the APC government, whereas we support the disposition of government at all levels, to fight corruption and all forms of state crimes, we will not clap for the APC federal government for its penchant to infringe on the fundamental human rights of Nigerians through the use of state law enforcement agents.

In the last three years of the President Muhammadu Buhari's regime, there seems to be an accentuated occurrence of political intimidation and administrative oppression, which unfortunately are not parts of the tenets of democratic any where in the world, if the President truly belongs to everyone and belongs to no one then he must be seen to be fair to all manner of persons regardless of their opinion, creed or status. He must begin to ensure that Nigerians do not loss confidence in his ability to be unbiased by directing appropriate officials of his government to do justice at all times by following rigorously the full extent of law in the discharge of their duties to guarantee the unity of Nigeria.

We will not shield Senator Abaribe if he has any case to answer, but the process of his arrest leaves more to be desired in a government of change, a government that promised Nigerians obedience to the rule of law.

We had expected that owing to the fact of Senator Abaribe being a senior citizen and a high ranking Senator of several years standing, he should have been given the benefit of doubt and would have been invited to answer any question(s) that there are, and he would have honoured the invitation in a most civil manner and not through this abduction like arrest, of a man who has no prior criminal records or judicial conviction whatsoever.

For us the strategy to arrest and detain unsuspecting citizens of this country on weekends to deprive them of their fundamental human rights to seek redress by arraigning them in court on or before 48 hours is becoming disturbing and depriving them of access to aids for freedom is most regrettable, and it gives us great concerns as to whether we are not back to the dark days of military dictatorship.

We wish by this press to draw the attention of the general public to danger of this surreptitious arrest and the imminent threats to the life of our leader as the reasons for his detention remains unknown.

We therefore call on all well meaning Nigerians and the leadership of the National Assembly to demand from the DSSS the reasons for the arrest of Senator Enyi Abaribe, failure to which the Federal Government should order the immediate and unconditional release of Senator Enyi Abaribe or show cause why he will enforce his rights to liberty as a legitimate citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Abaribe has done nothing wrong to deserve this, either in his Surety stand for Nnamdi Kanu or his Criticism of Buhari's Administration.

Abaribe was once a Deputy Governor of Abia State, A Gubernatorial Candidate in the state Under the then ANPP of which Buhari was it's Presidential flag bearer in 2003, and now a 3 times Senator Representing Abia South.

Nnamdi Kanu is from Abia state, Senator Enyinnanya Abaribe is also from Abia state. So when the court decided to grant him bail, and everyone shied away from standing Surety for him, it was a matter of taking responsibility that Abaribe as a Leader and Senior citizen both in the same state where Kanu hails from and the same Igbo ethnicity of which they all come from to come forth and stand on behalf of his Junior brother and kinsman (Kanu) and redeemed the Igbos from the shame of abandoning their son with No surety to come forth and stand to meet his bail conditions.

After his release, Nnamdi Kanu didn't Jump bail or flee the country, rather it was the Nigerian Army that came with their Operation Python Dance to invade his Home. subsequent to that invasion, his whereabouts have reminded unknown (Dead or alive). And it's on record that the last Known invaders of his Home that led to his disappearance Was The Nigerian Army.

However, the case is in court, and Senator Abaribe has been attending hearing with his lawyers, Kanu's Lawyers also represents him in absence too. Abaribe has stated through his lawyers that; "The Court cannot expect him as a Surety to provide Nnamdi Kanu for Hearing, when the Nigerian Army invaded his Home and caused his disappearance. so from where will he manufacture Nnamdi Kanu?".

Why did the military invade his Home shortly after his release from prison even when the case was in court?? what was the purpose of invading his home? if the Military had captured Kanu or killed him, will the court still ask Abaribe to provide him?? Why hasn't the court invited the military to explain why it invaded the home of an Accused, standing trial before the court, whom have neither been found Guilty or Not?? Whose then is to be blamed for Kanu's disappearance??

Abaribe is a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for Christ Sake, he is not running away, never a time have the court summoned him and he didn't go, never a time has either the Military, DSS, or Police invite him and he didn't go. so what was the essence of Abducting him in this kangaroo style by the DSS?? is it cos he is an opposition Senator or that the present administration enjoys violating basic Human Rights of its citizens without regard??

I don't even want to talk of Abaribe's opposition stand against the current administration as a possible reason for his arrest by the DSS, cos when APC was in Opposition, they said worst things with unfounded allegations against Jonathan's Government. Nothing ever done by Jonathan's administration was welcomed or good enough by the then Opposition APC.

We were all in this country when Lia Mohammed called Jonathan a kindergarten President, heaven didn't fall and it wasn't regarded as hate speech, he wasn't arrested or harassed, the entire APC opposition both in the Senate and House took tolls insulting Jonathan's administration, sustained their propaganda war day in day out, yet non of them was abducted, harassed, intimidated or accused and prosecuted of Corruption overnight cos they were opposition speaking against the government of the day.


so why is this happening under this administration and some people still have the conscience to welcome it as good and OK for a government to treat it's citizens in this manner??

They have Hausa Radio station that I listen everyday. They have classical choir and women's fellowship like other churches. They put make up, artificial hair but no earring. Good and thanks for your Frank testimony about the church. As for the lengthy service, I believe it has to do with the church branch where you worshiped and the pastor or Elder that ministered that Sabbath. But in some other branches of the church, they close on or before 12pm, latest 12:30. you can find out yourself. and you can also write to the first elder of the church branch where you worship or at least meet him in person to discuss their lateness in service, and trust me next Sabbath they will make amends. Seventh Day Adventist Church, is a church where everyone can make an input and contribution as long as its for the progress of the church, and it's not ungodly. you could even be called to preach one Sabbath. so just talk to the first elder or any of the church officers in your branch and they will make amends. GREENSTONE EMMANUEL: THE EMERGING YOUNG LEADER TO WATCH

Since the return of our great country to democracy some 18 years ago, the tussle for power among the political giants of our dear country has been a major item on the menu of national discourse among the youths who sadly have been relegated to the sidelines of decision making both on the competitive and policy impact political fronts.

In Electing leaders into governance in Nigeria, it has always been a case of old age, financial muscle, recycled leadership or godfatherism piloting the ship of electioneering politics, save for the year 2017 that saw the monumental Not Too Young To Run bill passed into law and has stirred the zeal of young men and women ahead of 2019 general elections. Despite this golden opportunity, what most youths continue to do is lament and complain and shift blames on the government and public officers for our predicaments, misfortunes and poverty rather than rise to champion or support the advancement of youths in the political arena come 2019.

Election into public offices is not the only area of urgent necessary involvement of our youths in politics, the role and impact of various political parties in government decision and governance cannot be overemphasised. Political parties guide, support and influence the activities of any government. Administration of political parties is not beyond the ideal foothold of the youths as some still perceive it. Hence, youth participation in political party administrative roles is a new challenge that the capable and vibrant Nigerian youths must overcome. Notable among the youths rising to bear the youthful flags on the political front is a young man of tested and proven character and leadership Greenstone Emmanuel vying for the portfolio of Deputy National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Greenstone as he is popularly known, is a person of astute political ideologies, fearless, committed and positive in attitude to leadership issues. His antecedents and track records speak volumes in his favour. As an undergraduate in the University of Ilorin, he demonstrated zero tolerance to corruption by saving the student union 10m naira from been embezzled, blocking numerous attempts of corruption in the students government and ensuring that corrupt student executives were brought to book. He also served as an invaluable executive of the National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS). Education has been described by many as an instrument par excellence for liberating the mind and building the nation. However, it is also a fact that if every Nigerian youth speak with one voice, in favour of our rising political youngsters, who are competent, have been and are still blazing the trail in the political arena, our voices, votes and support will be enough to position competent and capable youths like Comrade Greenstone in the corridors of power to our favour. On this account, our different political ideologies and loyalties if allowed to come between our long overdue aspirations of youth governance, will work in favour of the same old and recycled leaders who in their political permutations, lodge their loyalties to any side of the divide that supports their political ambitions.

As a young man who has all the experiences of the embittered Nigerian youth, Comrade Greenstone understands the plight of the dislodged youths in the present economic and social realities of our country. DECLARATION SPEECH :ENOUGH OF OUR POLITICAL PRESENCE WITHOUT RELEVANCE

I am Echo Emmanuel, my friend and political associates call me GREENSTONE. I’m born into an agrarian family in the late 80s. I had my primary and secondary education in Benue state. My quest to explore other climes of Nigeria made me to leave home for Kwara State (Great Afonja) to pursue my tertiary education at the prestigious University of Ilorin. I did study B.Sc. Geography, I had my Masters (M.Sc) in same course upon finishing the compulsory National Youth Service (NYSC). I’m currently enrolled for PhD where I work as a Research Assistant on Food Security & Climate Change to a seasoned Professor

At this juncture, its equally important to talk about my leadership experience and sport life. To hone my leadership prowess, I joined the Student Union of University of Ilorin as a result of my unquenchable appetite to serve others because we become free in service of each other. I served as a Campaign Director in my 100L, contested for welfare secretary of the Union in my 200L and chaired the Independent Corrupt Practices Committee (ICPC) of the Union where I saved the Union the tune of 8.5m naira and 2.3m naira for other organized Indigenous States Unions (Verified records). I didn’t betray their trust because I was elected unopposed due to my tested integrity, candor and accountability.

I was the first elected National Coordinator of INEC Corpers Forum (ICF) which was my brainchild. I Served directly under the then maverick Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Jega Attahiru. The platform (ICF) helped to improve the welfare and the administrative significance of all the 103 serving corpers and the 33 industrial trainee students.

I formed the Nigeria Youth Frontiers-NYF along other pick-out like-minded youths, we nurtured it to become a national player to champion youth advocacy and youth meaningful political participation.. According to Frantz Fanon, “every generation, must out of relative obscurity discover its mission, either to fulfill it or betray it, I’m a student of classic and contemporary history. I have never come across where power was willingly dished out.

I make bold to say this to my respected fellow Nigeria youths in the struggle, enough of our PRESENCE WITHOUT RELEVANCE. Endless complaints have never solved any problem ever before, neither has being complacent as youth done the job for us. I tell you this again, the struggle is not a sprint race, it’s a non-stop marathon. The road to our political emancipation is heavily paved with daunting realities, arm-twisting, blackmails, grandstanding from the sit-tight older generation that feel uncomfortable by our agitation for our rightful position in the scheme of nation building. I have a secret for us, be consistent, focused, disciplined and determined. We shall overcome!

I want to lead my fellow PDP youths from the front by walking my talks. This is why I wholly present myself for this tortuous journey of emancipation and self dependent Nigeria youth. If am elected as PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, which I’m firmly convinced will be elected with a huge landslide because I have never lost a contest, I either win or learn a lesson and gain experience which money can’t buy.

This is not about GREENSTONE, it’s about the future of Nigeria Youth, we are all tied together by interest so, we shouldn’t be divided in focus as a result of the artificial barriers. YOUTH MARGINALIZATION has no tribe, religion nor political affiliation. May God help me not to betray your trust upon my election.

HON. SOLOMON ADAELU CHANGES THE NARRATIVES OF THE PAST FROM EXCUSES TO ACTION

Hon. Engr. Solomon Adaelu was born in January 1st, 1972 into the middle class family of Engr. and Late Mrs. Emmanuel Onyenmaobi Adaelu. This rare breed and a special gift to Nigeria and humanity attended his Secondary Education at Ngwa High School, Abayi, Aba and obtained his SSCE/WAEC in a grand style in 1992. His love for creativity lured him into securing admission to study Chemical Engineering at the prestigious Federal University Of Technology, Owerri and graduated in the year 2001 With B.Eng chemical Engineering.

Considering his leadership ingenuity there is then, no gainsaying that this industrialist, delved into politics not for self aggrandizement but to better the lots of the citizens as evident both in the positions he held as the commissioner for Public Utility and Water resources in Abia State in the year 2009 and the feat accomplished. He was later appointed the commissioner for Rural Development between the year 2011-2013 before he was elected as a legislator in the National Assembly. During his reign as commissioner, many communities witnessed massive infrastructural development, basic social amenities provision etc, so to improve the living standard of the citizenry.

Today, Engr., Solomon Adaelu is the member, federal house of representative; representing Obingwa, Osisoma Ngwa, and Ugwunagbo federal constituency. He doubles as the deputy Chairman, House committee on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration as well as a house Committee member on Public Petition.

These bills, as customary with most of other appropriations are intended to ensure that, although Nigeria remains a nascent democracy, with a very copious learning abilities (intermittent errors and hindsight notwithstanding), the dividends and ethos of democracy realized in very develop democracies like improved living standards, access to basic amenities and facilities etc, will not be farfetched.

Therefore, the bills are as follows;

1. A bill for an act to stipulate a time frame for the executive President and State Governors to avail the names of their cabinet members along their portfolios within 30 days of inauguration to the National and State Houses' of Assemblies for examination and ratification. According to Hon. Adaelu; "the unnecessary delay of the Executive to timely select cabinet members had negative impingement on the economy as it scared away local and foreign investors who would have invested in critical sectors of the economy"

This bill has, true to type, scaled through a second reading in the green carpet chamber.

2. A bill for an act for constituency development funds. This bill is to ensure that 2.5% of the total annual budget be voted to these constituencies and monitored by the constituents rather than what obtains at present where federal government decides and votes in whatever guise, what pleases them for these constituencies. This also is to enable the presence of the federal government be felt on the localities with respect to ameliorating their plights and yearnings.

MOTIONS

First of all, he moved the Motion for checkmating the excessive use of force on civilians by security operatives outside the rules of Engagement on “The Increasing Incidents of Brutality by Security Personnel on Hapless Nigerians”.
The motion was his prompt response following the killings of traders at the Bakassi shoe plaza by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) some months ago in Aba, Abia State.

Secondly, he has moved a motion that seeks to mandate the Nigeria University Commission to upgrade the National Institute of Nigerian Languages, Aba, to a degree awarding institution which will automatically translate to increasing funding of the institution.

Thirdly, he moved a motion which sort to fix the failed portions of the Aba- Ikot Ekpene Road and the Osisioma/ NNPC Old Aba- Owerri Road. This culminated into these roads been penciled down for inclusion in the 2017 Budget of the Federal Ministry of Works for a total rehabilitation and reconstruction. This project when executed will alleviate the sufferings the people resident in those parts of Abia State and passerby encountered while plying these roads.

Fourth, as a house Committee member on public petition, he went into checking the imbalance in federal recruitment. One of such places he effected the recruitment of Abians, is the road safety after he had found out that Abia was having two persons employed into the scheme while other States had about 20 candidates each, out of the 500 newly employed officers.
He cried out about this imbalance in the green chamber and such yielded enormous benefits of employing many other Abians thereafter.

DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS

He made a paradigm shift from short term empowerment project to a more durable, long lasting projects. These project are eased to be in phases.

He evolved a program that will have 20 youths from each of the 3 LGAs trained, mentored and empowered.

Setting up easy/quiz competition among the primary and secondary schools in the constituency where the overall best students will be awarded scholarships to the tertiary education level.

A similar long term development projects is the fixing of rural roads in the constituency, hence he approved of his 4years allowances to be used in procuring the following:
a. 3 payloaders
b. 3 graders
c. 3 tractors
d. 3 compactors; one of each to be released in each of the three local governments that make up the constituency; Obingwa, Osisioma Ngwa and Ugwunagbo L.G.As.

On Wednesday 4th January 2017, he will flag off the rural road grading program at Ngwa High School, by 10am, as the governor of Abia State Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu is expected to unveils those equipment procured for this purpose.

Thereafter, a committee will be set up to manage the operations of these equipment and to maximize its usage.

From the 5th of January, he will kickstart a town hall meeting with the constituents to enable them suggest best projects for the constituency so as to reflect on the proposed budget sent to the National Assembly by President Mohammadu Buhari.

The above listed mind boggling achievements only remain a "tip of the iceberg" on what feats the Honorable can attain. Indeed, Honorable Adaelu remains an epitome of politics' new seriousness which prioritizes results in an almost unseemly fashion.

Therefore, by hoarding credible performances, achievements and results so avariciously, our endeared Honorable threatens to shatter most long standing truths (poetic irony) in Nigeria's body polity. Yet, traditional political parameters have had to adjust to accommodate his anomalous exploits.

Above all, while there is already enough inroads for the "icing on the cake" to come by, records will surely have it that there hasn't been any legislator in this part of the clime who has achieved these feats in the recent years, except Hon. Solomon Adaelu.

ABIA AT 25: A SYNOPSIS OF THE JOUNEY SO FAR BY END OF YEAR 2016

At the country's independence in 1960, Abia was part of the then Eastern Region. The creation of Abia State in 1991 was borne out of the spartan spirit of Abians; the traditional, religious and economic leaders who had realized that there were unjustifiable and intolerable imbalances in the conduct of the affairs of then Imo State, especially as regards to strategic appointments in the public service while in the old Imo State.
Notable among the many of them in that struggle for creation of the new state include;

The struggle culminated in the creation of the geographical entity known as Abia on August 27, 1991 by the General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida led military regime out of the then Imo State.

The first thing the founding fathers did was to choose a nomenclature that would be adjudged suitable and appropriate for the State of their dream. Thus, the name "Abia" was carved from the initial letters of the four political blocs, namely: Aba, Bende, and Afikpo. Isuikwuato which was a district in Okigwe division was later added for convenience. These constituted the major groups in the State at its creation. The people speak Igbo.

In respect to the vision upon which the State was built, making its bedrock remain solely on God, the State earned its acronym "God's own State". It is pertinent to note that this is the only State with a name in the scriptures. See 1Chronicles 3:10 and Mathew 1:7.
Having found out the name of the State in the scriptures, the acronym, God's own State was officially pronounced by Dr. Ogbonaya Onu on April 26, 1992 during a special thanksgiving/dedication service at Umuahia Township Sports Stadium.

In the spirit of "Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya" and to forestall the inequality which they had condemned, the forerunners of Abia State proposed for themselves the Abia Charter of equity. The aim included among other things; to allay the fears of domination of one senatorial zone/district over the other.

They believed in the rule of law, fairness and equal opportunity in the administration of affairs of Abia State and in the distribution of the basic amenities to all the zones. This declaration of principle was meant to be binding on all persons of Abia State who may be holding public offices, especially elective and appointive offices in the running of the government affairs inasmuch as its provisions does not violate the constitutions of the federal republics of Nigeria.

The rotational principle of the chatter of equity applies that public offices shall not be held at one and the same time by persons of the same zone;
a. Governor and the Deputy Governor
b. Governor and the Speaker of the State House of Assemble
c. Governor and the Secretary to the State Government
e. Chairman, civil service commission and the Head of Service
f. Chief Judge and the Attorney General of the State
g. Chairman, Local Government Service Commission and the Chairman of the State Electoral umpire.
h. Head of Service and the Secretary to the State Government.

The creation of Abia State was indeed considered a step in the right direction as regards bringing government nearer to the people resident in this part of the clime, alongside the concomitant benefits of development and progress witnessed. There is no gainsaying the fact that this laudable vision paid off handsomely especially in other contemporary States and Abia.

Abia State has had about nine governors/administrators since its creation which are; Frank Ajobena who made the Abia Development blueprint. (August 28-January 1992 under military administration). The keenly contested general election in 1992 produce the first executive governor of Abia State in the name, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu whose tenure was interrupted in 1993 by a military coup.

Col. Chinyere Ike Nwosu followed suit and had his share from December 1993 to September 1994. Col. Temi Ejoor took over from September 1994 till 1996. Col. Moses Fasanya, took a administered the state in (1996-1998) while Col. Anthony Obi took over from August 1998 to May, 1999.

Abia had a new lease of life with the birth of the fourth republic. Since then have the State continued to enjoy uninterrupted democratic rule. The State produced Chief Orji Uzor Kalu from Bende local government who served two terms from between 1999 to 2007.

The Governor did the best he could to reposition Abia to the limelight but may have been handicapped as a new player in the Nigerian politics.

Meanwhile, there were some structural changes, restructuring and developmental strides done in every parts of Abia State. Some roads, hospitals, stadia and other public utilities were fixed. The State also witnessed tremendous achievements in sports with Enyimba football club of Aba winning CAF trophy back-to-back and thereby earned themselves the name; Enyimba Internationals football club.

The speed at which development was spread across every strata of the State earned the then Governor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu the acronym "action governor".

Also, the democratically elected Governor T. A. Orji did some other restructuring of the State though bedeviled by some pockets of distractions. He laid the major administrative foundation for the development of the new state with many legacy projects at Umuahia and beyond. Some institutions were remodeled, revamped and reinvigorated.

It is on record that the governor on assumption of office promoted civil servants to one-grade level above their then status.

Edifices housing civil and public servants were rehabilitated and new ones built to enable for comfort in carrying out administrative functions. The State also assumed some aesthetic features with the decongestion of Isi gate in Umuahia and Osisioma Ngwa junction in Aba which has rubed off in free flow of traffic.

Abia State lies within approximately latitudes 4? 40' and 6? 14' north, and longitudes 7? 10' and 8? east. The state shares common boundaries to the north with Enugu State; to the Northeast with Ebonyi State, to the south and southwest with Rivers State; and to the east and southeast with Cross River and Akwa lbom States respectively. To the west is Imo State, and to the northwest is Anambra State. This makes it the only state that has boundary with all the southeastern State as well some south south States. This is one reason it remains a hub for commerce for all States within the region.

The state covers an area of about 5,243.7 sq. km which is approximately 5.8 per cent of the total land area of Nigeria. Abia has its capital at Umuahia, and seventeen LGAs, namely: Aba North, Aba South, Arochukwu, Bende, lkwuano, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, lsuikwuato, Obingwa, Ohafia, Osisioma, Ukwa West, Ukwa East, Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Ugwunagbo, and Umunneochi.

According to 2006 census, Abia State had an average of 2, 833, 999 million people and with annual population growth rate of about 2.9%, by 2011 projection, its population may have risen to 3,500,818 million people (NBS).

Abia State was bequeathed a robust economy upon its creation. The State has one of the highest potentials for independent private sector-led economic performance. Apart from the large deposit of crude oil in Owaza in the Ukwa axis of the State, it has other mineral deposits such as zinc, gold, kaoline and limestone. There are lots of oil palm settlement in the State; estates built by the then Michael Okpara, premier of the defunct premier region. There are lots of cashew and rubber plantations in Abia State.

The State also had a fabulous commercial activities especially in the Aba area with pockets of other towns like, Omoba springing up which makes for its economic viability in the comity of States.

Albeit, after a while into its journey, the State seems to have been jinxed. 24 years after creation, the State lags behind in a number of economic performances indices. Indeed, the initial headwind that Abia, through its industries and trade activities, had over other states in the Federation, were lost. In its place, the State has had lack-lustre economic performance. Much of the gains made in establishing industries in the days pre- and post-1970 were eroded as the State's enterprises got grounded for varying reasons. Inability to provide leadership in planning and complementation, which government traditionally provides to the private sector, has meant that the latter have had to battle bitter odds in the bid to remain competitive. Over time then, Abia lost its position as premier destination for production and trade through infrastructural and environmental decay.

Some administrations in the past either paid little or no attention to revamping and repositioning its institutions; there were infrastructural decay especially in the city of Aba that was and still is the economic and industrial nerve center of the south eastern States. Roads were either left to dilapidate without at least any cosmetic face-lift that could stand the test of time.

Investments in the city of Aba was played down and went into extinction. Companies like golden guinea breweries, modern ceramics, Standard Poly, Aba textile mill, Uniliver, PZ were as matter of negligence and no creation of enabling environment forced to run aground and laid off numerous families bread winners; a situation that would have abetted the scourge of unemployment now ravaging and grueling the State. At a time, security situation in Abia, especially Aba became so precarious that firms that had used the city as their cottage industrial layout, investors and some other business and enterprises fled the city in droves. The resultant effect of this is that the state became a shadow of what it was before the creation of Abia State.

There are many indications that buttresses the fact that had Aba been given a face-lift all these years, it would have taken its place of pride as truly the economic nerve center of the eastern region. Suffice it to say that the economic crunch that is being witnessed today as a result of the downturn in the oil revenue is largely owing to the utter neglect of the potentials of the city Aba. Gone are the days of the much orchestrated japan of Africa, the Abia Palm went into the oblivion, the Bende rice died, the rubber plantations became a mere forestation.

Instead of seeking ways of revamping the dwindling state of the economy through exploiting the potentials of the Enyimba city, opportunities were wasted through witch-hunting and series of litigations aimed at grinding the government machineries to a halt.
It is in this light that series of litigations against the incumbent government should be seen, but that does not mean inauspicious as it is one of the flavours of politics that makes democratic institutions stronger.

The present government, led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, has however made a blueprint to really drive home the genuine restructuring and revamping the economy of the State. This document adopts an integrated, multi-sectoral grassroots development approach to economic empowerment of the people. Apart from the written documents, there are on-going moves in changing the narratives of the State. The speedy reconstruction of roads in Aba is targeted at bringing back the investment interest of various investors who may have left in drives owing to various reasons not excluding bad road network. The State is today enjoying appreciable security of lives and property unlike what was obtainable in the kidnapping era.

The State has recovered lots of the farm estates in Abia State with a view to making them viable and useful once again. One of the dreams of the present Abia State government is to have a EPZ in Azumiri blue river which will rekindle the light of businesses in the eastern region and reduce the weight and risk of transporting imported and exporting goods through farther locations. Abia/Bende rice has now got a boost with the production and de-stoning of the rice in Attani, Arochukwu LGA.

In respect to the importance of power, the State has concluded plans to generate and supply uninterrupted power through the geometrics to the enterprising people of Aba. While the State has gone into supporting the lather and garment production in the State to assume the form of international standard and recognition, it has started reconstruction of companies like Golden Guinea and International Glass Industry, Aba.

Abia has towered high in the education sector as it has produced the bests in WAEC, jamb and other disciplines lately. Discovery of lots of solid mineral resources in the state has repositioned the State to a mining State.

Though bedeviled by paucity of fund for operations, the determination of Governor Ikpeazu to see to the welfare of the citizenry, including the workers cannot be overemphasized as the State is working hard to installing an electronic tax system, the first of its kind to help shore up the revenue as well regulate the tax system for the betterment of all Abians.

The Abia State law makers in few days to the end of the year 2016, precisely on Thursday the 29th day of December 2016 played out what people had described as "legislative drama" with the impeachment of the 6th house speaker; Rt. Hon. Barr. Martins Azubike representing Isialangwa North State constituency and the inauguration of a new speaker thereafter, Rt. Bishop Kenedy Njoku representing Osisioma Ngwa North State constituency with allegations bordering on gross misconduct and financial recklessness.

Jaw-droppingly, another speaker of the 6th State house of Assembly emerged in less than 24hours to the inauguration of Rt. Hon. Bishop Kenedy Njoku, Rt. Hon. Barr. Chikwendu Kanu who replaced Hon. Njoku after his resignation "on personal grounds".

Abia is God's own State and will Stand in the lead. Therefore, her people should behave as God's own people, avoiding bribery and corruption, discrimination clannishness, nepotism, witch-hunting, rumor mongering and anything that will bring about our division rather than uniting us.

The land of grace and faith, that's Abia, God's own State. The home of trade and enterprise, Abia State we hail. We shall rise and remain at the tower.

Abia shall be great. And on equity will stand. Together we can.

BOOSTING FOOD SECURITY IN NIGERIA; ABIA TAKING A LEAD

Agriculture which deals with the provision of foods and raw materials has in no small way helped extensively in the growth of other sectors of the economy as it has added to the national grid. Therefore, in its efforts and determination in ensuring self food sufficiency in Abia state, the Hon Commissioner for Agriculture Barr. Uzo Azubuike has evolved programmes and policies of action through the approval and directive of Governor Okezie lkpeazu.

The government of Abia, today, do not pay lip services to such programmes and policies especially now that the country is in dire need to grow its foods locally as well make paradigm shift from thrusting on the coffers of the federal government for survival.

This has rubbed off in the tremendous progress in the five focal areas of Agriculture in Abia State which includes; Cash crops, Food crops, Livestocks/fisheries,
Agricultural mechanisation and Agricultural financing.

PALM PRODUCE

In its efforts to boost cash crop in the State, the ministry of Agriculture has retrieved, rehabilitated and repositioned all the oil Palm Estates established by the previous administrations which had hitherto remained moribund for lack of maintenance. These oil Palm estates includes; Ohambele, Ulonna North and south, Ukwa Nkporo, Isu Aro and Ozuitem, totaling about 12,189Hectares while about 3,856hectares has been planted with improved Tenera oil palm species.

The ministry has also embarked on Community Based Oil Palm Project. This is a revolutionary agricultural programme of Dr Okezie lkpeazu administration to unbundle the agricultural value chain. According to the commissioner of Agriculture, over 80% of the earth crust of Abia State is lying fallow without palms.
The drive of the government is that each portion of land will be planted with these improved seedling to help in the production of the palm oil which is a good market today.

Hence, the government went into the nursery of 2million oil palm at Ahiaba Umueze in Osisioma Ngwa LGA. To maintain the fray of the business or better still, to improve the status quo, the State has talked Abia oil Processing Mill equipment about such welcomed development, galvanizing them also about the high level of business focus and concentration needed to remain efficacious at each level of process required in Palm oil manufacturing.
Indeed, the enormous benefits of this adventure embarked upon by the state Government, targeted towards the good people of Abia, remains alleviating.

GRAINS

Grains are one of the cash crops loved and eaten by many in Africa. One of such grains is rice. In an interview with the commissioner, Barr. Azubuike maintained that Abia has vast land which has been producing rice but has never added to the national grid because the rice was not processed in the State. To this end, the government collaborated through the ministry of Agriculture, collaborated with FADAMA 111 for Rice development in the State.

This collaboration rubbed off in the establishment of a rice processing Mill at Attani in Arochukwu L.G.A., of Abia State which has given rise to a mass production of stone free long grain Rice.

Abia State is set to build a modern rice processing mill in the state in the year, 2017.

Meanwhile, Barr. Uzor Azubike stated that emphasis will be made on guiding the farmers on the particular species that must be planted in the Abia rice farms maintaining the ministry will allow for the use of Faro 44 and 52 to enable for good yield of the crop.

LIVESTOCK

Moving away from theoretical approach on Agric policies to practical implementation of those policies, the Abia State ministry of Agriculture has established a 7500 capacity modern poultry farm at the ministry's headquarters in library avenue in Umuahia with about 2,500 pullets (layers) currently being nursed in the poultry.

Unlike the bureaurcratic bottlenecks which has bedeviled progress in programs like this, the ministry's staff are the ones taking care of the birds.

Abia State government is presently building a poultry processing plant at Umuosu in lsiala Ngwa LGA, while it will hopefully kick start its poultry settlement in the three senatorial zones of the State.

The ministry has also revamped its fish ponds with over 7,000 fished been nursed in the ponds.

OTHER CASH CROPS

The ministry has embarked on cassava stem multiplication with the establishment of 10 hectares of TME 419 and Pro-vitaminA cassava farm at Omumauzo Ukwa West LGA, the target is to raise and distribute not less than 50000 bundles of cassava cuttings to farmers.

The ministry has established a mushroom demonstration farm at the ministry's headquarters library avenue, Umuahia with state of the art equipment to execute the process procured. The commissioner called on many youths to take advantage of this lucrative venture and key into it for a living.

The ministry is currently running a ginger farm with over 70,000 seedling currently planted.

PROCUREMENT OF TRACTOR, BULLDOZERS AND GRADERS

The equipment procured will enable for the creation of roads to the farm settlements in the State while the tractors and ploughs will be used to harrow the portions for the farmers.

According the the commissioner, "the ministry is hunted by the burning desire of the governor to make Abia State the food based of the South-East. In the year 2017, Abia will be known with exploits in the Agricultural sector. Our rice is cheaper and even better than some in the market. It will serve the need of Abian this Yuletide and in the days ahead".

He alone, having made it possible for us to be alive till today and even till this victory, I know He will also supply us with the needed intellectual, financial, spiritual, moral and other necessary wherewithal needed to move Obingwa to the next level.

WHAT OBINGWA PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW BEFORE THE DEC. 21st LG POLLS.

"If as a youth you incidentally find yourself in a particular country, State, or city on this earth and you have no vision of how you want that place to be for you, make it be that way and keep it that way, then you don't deserve being there"

For most of us who started the agitation of Democratic continuity in Obingwa and indeed other LGAs in Abia state, through timely conduct of LG elections in the state, know of the Obingwa we desire, the development we hope for and the society we wish to build, having found ourselves in this geographical location, though not of our own choosing but of the making of the creator.

Having said that and now that the LG polls are to be conducted, it is therefore worthy to call on the good people of Obingwa to see through our perspective, of the Obingwa we wish to build.

Today's governance is no longer run based on available resources, but based on Diplomacy, ideology, and the ingenuity of the leaders and those in government, alongside the human and potential resources which they must seek, discover and harness it wherever it could be found.

On this note, the people of Obingwa and indeed Abians must consider these before electing their leaders across the LGAs come Dec. 21st 2016, because it is at this level (LG) that all grass root development begins and if the LG lacks the right growth and development, so will the State and the entire country at large.

It should not be politics as usual. It should not be about the money, influence or self acclaimed power and popularity, but of trustful stewardship and that is the reason it should be of the youths and for the youths.

If the elders lead at the State and national level, would it also be fair for them to come and lead at the local level as well? And if it be so then where is the place for the youths in governance or are we only good to follow and support?

I believe we have the right to vote and be voted for and that is why, come 21st December 2016, all Obingwa youths should mobilize to elect Hon. Hanson S. Amaechi as chairman obingwa LGA.

In terms of;

POPULATION: Obingwa as a local government has a fairly large population of over 200,000 indigenes, with a land mass of about 153 sq miles. Placing it as the 4th largest LGA in Abia state, in terms of population. So to some extent, obingwa could be said to have what it takes both in population and human resources, to make huge impact in the state, in whatever dimension. And that is why the people of Obingwa must consider putting a youth in leadership position of this extraordinary LGA.

POLITICS: I think it will be fair to say that in whatever political alignment and realignment of Abia State without the people of Obingwa, will never stand. Reason being that Obingwa has produced quite a number of quintessential politicians, patriotic Abians and Nigerians, who have served the state and country in various levels and capacities, and are still engaged in various levels and capacities both at the state and national. So it will be abysmal for this local government, which has produced these fine public servants to perform below bar due to leadership incapability at the local level. It won't speak good of us. We therefor need to make our choices right now come 21st Dec., by voting Hon. Hanson S. Amaechi to handle our affairs.

EDUCATION: Obingwa has quite a reasonable large number of primary and secondary schools, both Government and privately owned, which has been serving the basic educational needs of its people. Although Obingwa does not have a full fledged university or higher institution of learning, within the local government, suffice it to say that we will attract that soon. With Hon Hanson Sunday Amaechi leading and our elders supporting, the educational sector in Obingwa will be fully revolutionized for the development of our youths.

ECONOMY: Unlike Aba north and south, osisioma ngwa, umuahia north and other commercial points in Abia state, obingwa does not have such large market found in these commercial points, nor the infrastructural presence to undertake such economic activities. But we pride ourselves of our industry and agriculture, we are home to the popular 'GARRI NGWA' which is being sold all over the country and even the chemical composition of our soil has proven to be highly fertile for the growth of various species of cassava and palm tree. Also to some reasonable extent, mini trade and commerce is bubbling within the LGA and only needs the right input from an ideological leader like Hon. Hanson S. Amaechi to escalate it's growth and development.

With Hon. Hanson S. Amaechi in position and with the right team in place, our markets will be developed, and our agric sector will be revolutionized, mama and Papa would not need to ride 10km on bicycles just to sale their Agric products at a beat down price, no not again! Our new markets will now host these trades and commerce at their own agreed price.

Geologically, the crust of obingwa, harbour the best soil; silica sand and clayey soil for glass manufacturing and other clay works respectively as well as potential deposits of crude oil and other minerals. With the right investment in these noted areas, the economy of obingwa is headed for a boom and surely our youths will not lack employment.
Our tourism sector is not left out, with ONICHA NGWA River in mind, something could be done there to harness it's tourism potentials. Our cultural and traditional display could be turned to a world class tourist attraction.

INFRASTRUCTURE: Real estate is booming in obingwa with the increase in urbanization of the area day by day, people are buying lands and building houses in every corner in obingwa. Already with the rate of increase in population and housing, the little social infrastructure in Obingwa, is now sustaining more population than it should. But good a thing Hon. Hanson S. Amaechi has taken note of these and being given the mandate of the people come Dec 21st 2016. He will work with relevant agencies and communities to extend our rural electrification, pipe born water and other social amenities for the people of obingwa.

HEALTH: As we all know our health is our wealth and it's one of the most important factors of human and social development.
In the area of health, Obingwa has quite a number of rural health centres and many renowned medical doctors and nurses both at the state, national and international level, and these are the people that HON. Hanson Amaechi is going to work with, to revive, rebrand and sustain our health sector, which will serve us even for many years to come.

I believe that the people of obingwa are not too blind to see, not too deaf to hear nor too daft to reason. Come 21st December 2016, we will make our choice and upon that choice we bestow our mandate, to serve us right.

PLACING YOUNG PEOPLE IN THEIR RIGHTFUL PLACE; A CLARION CALL

In recent times, there has been a renewed call and agitation by youths and other concerned stakeholders for the youths to be rightly placed in the political equation and terrain.

This may not be unconnected with abysmal neglect of these youths by political office holders who use them during electioneering campaigns during which they are addressed as"leaders of tomorrow", (just on a mere mantra) and after winning the elections, their interest are forgotten and relegated to the back burner.

Secondly, the nonperformance of Nigerian elites at the corridors of power makes it expedient for youths to take the center stage in the march for the development of our dear nation Nigeria, whose growth and development should not be sacrificed on the alter of mediocrity and parochial interests.

More so, as world over, the trend is youths taking over the baton of leadership from our old generations who seemingly are weak and sapped of workable ideas. Therefore, the Nigerian case should not be an exception.

A typical case study is the 21 year old Jewel Jones winning the Michigan House of Representatives seat in USA. Why can't same be replicated in Nigeria or Abia State?

That makes the clamour and agitation of Hon. Hanson Amaechi (youngest LGA chairmanship aspirant in Abia) to emerge the chairman of Obingwa LGA in Abia State germane and genuine as well in place. He is a vibrant youth with fresh ideas to uplift Obingwa LGA. If he is supported to win the poll, all strata of Obingwa people will be better for it.

The youths should be in the vanguard of enthroning a visionary and vibrant youth to lead the council especially at this critical period when capable hands are being sought for to change the narrative and fortunes of Nigeria and Obingwa in particular.

The peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia state today December 5, 2016 flagged off the LG chairmanship campaigns for the December 17 polls in the state.
At the flag-off campaigns today in umuahia, the state capital, the party handed its flag to the successful candidates in the just concluded primary election last month.

The event was graced by the governor, Dr okezie ikpeazu, his deputy and many party stalwarts in the state.

Today I feel so proud to present to us the youngest PDP Chairmanship flag-bearer for Dec. 17th 2016 LGA polls in Abia State.

Hon Amaechi Hanson. aka. (Abacha) is below 35years

*He was elected Councilor in his ward in Obingwa LGA in 2007 at age of 27.

*He became P.A to Gov. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu when he was General Manager at ASPIMSS in 2010.

*He was P.A to Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu when he was DGM in ASEPA 2011.

*He join the Nigerian Immigration Service in 2012, but withdrew from the Service and re-joined politics in 2014 to work for Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, during the gubernatorial race.

*During 2015 general elections, he became Obingwa LGA coordinator for our Okezuoabia Youthwing.

*He was also President of Youths4Youths forum during the 2015 election.

*He was appointed S.A to Governor okezie ikpeazu on Petroleum in 2015.

*He picked the PDP Chairmanship Nomination form for Obingwa LGA in October 2016.

PERSONAL LIFE SO FAR:

*He is the only male child of his family.

*He is a married man, with 2 kids, a boy and a girl.

*He is a graduate of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba.

Today, at below 35years, Hon. Amaechi Hanson aka (Abacha ) is 99.9% close to the seat of the Executive Chairman of Obingwa LGA as he won the PDP primaries, thereby clinching the party ticket to contest the obingwa LGA chairmanship election in the upcoming Dec. 17th 2016 polls.

OUR MANIFESTO: OUR KEY WORDS

My name is Hanson Sunday Amaechi, vying for the post of the executive chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State under the umbrella of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Having won the primaries and emerged the flag bearer of our great party in this December 17th 2016 scheduled election, we wish to let you know that our candidacy have been scrutinized, waiting to be cleared after a thorough screening exercise by the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC).

While we solicit your support to ensure we emerge victorious in this election, we are not promising to build castles in the air but must embark on realizable projects as supported by the law. Some of the projects we must not fail to embark on include inter-allia;

a. Rural and Urban Development:
With respect to the economic importance of Obingwa L.G.A., it is imperative that the infrastructure of the local government are put in proper fitting. While we focus on building, developing and rehabilitating certain infrastructures such as markets which will definitely rub off in shoring up our internally generated revenue (IGR) to avoid over bearing on the State coffers to run the LGA, we will equally do all within our purview to provide infrastructure to the hinterland to discourage rural-urban drift and thereby leaving the agricultural arable lands to waste. More so, we will build good road networks to connect the village and towns to enable for the transporting of farm outputs to the markets and towns.

b. Accessibility:
We will run an open door government where the citizens will have their way and say. We believe that nobody is a repository of knowledge, hence, the need for community interactive sessions. Our government will take more of the discuss and work on the positives for the overall good of our people.

c. Human and Capital Development:

The development of any society largely depends on the development of its citizenry. Therefore, if our society must grow beyond what we have today, there is every need for us to empower our people in that regard. We are yearning for more entrepreneurs in our society, more graduates, more persons placed on the employment lists across the nation. Our vision is that we will be able to establish more small and medium scale enterprises to enable for self dependence and sustenance. Our institutions are in dare need of development thus, our plans to delve into strengthening them.

d. Humility in Service:

Humility they say is not a sign of weakness, rather strength in disguise. It enables one to learn on the feet of those who know better about the path one is trading on. We are not unaware that Obingwa and of course Abia State in general are blessed with great men and women of repute and we have resolved to observe all sense of respect to our elders and leaders.

We promise that those values which are bequeathed on us as a person we shall continue to up hold. We pledge our allegiance to serve you aright.
