I had a bit of hope for Tolu but his lack of finishing instinct in the GwG was a real let down.

That's why Senior Man Kelz (Happy Birthday to him by the way) despite his loss of form and pace still has a special place for me in my best performers over the past 5-8 yrs. May lack consistency but on his day will definitely get you a goal.

Only forward who could be relied upon when in form in his hey day to get you a goal in Osimhen's absence.

My main question is why are the supporters of Peter Obi mostly not backing Doherty who's a fellow party man instead gravitating to GRV in ADC the party of their main opposition for Presidency?

Plus he who comes to equity must come with clean hands.

Uyo at its best doesn't have pristine playing surfaces.

Franktom247:
To me the pitch excuse is nonsense and hogwash

Did the pitch affect Adams from making a 2m pass in that second half counter or Awoniyi running up and down during the first half without direction or Bruno being easily dribbled in the first goal we conceded and his other lapses that made Bassey to yell at him

The players are cowards to say the least

They all know Africa is under developed if they are not ready to give their all there a thousand and more people ready to give their all they should make way for them

If Bissau can be excellent in that so-called potato farm what is the chance they will turn out to be worse or bad and be easily beaten by this toothless eagles on a better pitch that's if ours is even better

Alhassan and Nnadi would been invited if not for injuries but your point still stands.

I'm not hyped about Lesley however Tim looks decent.

EElopa:
Al Hassan to me is a slightly better version of Ndidi. He is not a world beater but he has energy, can cover ground, pass the ball comfortably and most importantly is technically better than Ndidi. I don't think he is the solution to our midfield problems but I will take him in a heartbeat over Ndidi. The good news is that Tim Iroegbunam and Lesley Ugochukwu paperworks are being processed as I type. Tochukwu Nnadi, Lesley Ugochukwu and Tim Iroebgunam should definitely end Wilfred Ndidi era in the supereagles. Ebenezer Akinsanmiro is not a finished article. Do you know why Inter Milan signed him in the first place? They signed him because of his technical quality. He is comfortable on the ball, can run with the ball, good close control, great first touch and a good passing range. He is 21 years old and can still get better.

Personally I feel if Okoye wants the number 1 shirt he can get it but unfortunately he hasn't shown the seriousness and drive to win his shirt back.

I mean this was someone who was handed the number 1 shirt on a platter of gold without any outstanding performance or pedigree in club football.

After getting criticized for subpar performances, which is part of parcel of the game what did he do? He voluntary withdrew from the national team even when coaches still called him up. Naturally the national team is too big to wait on an individual so we moved on which is how Nwabali now staked a claim.

Now that you have decided you're ready for national team football you expect to be handed back the number 1 spot because you're what? God's gift to the national team?

Maduka still has to adjust his attitude if he really wants to rep Nigeria. His refusal to come for the last AFCON honestly didn't put him in good light and I hope he fixes up because he's a genuine talent no doubt.

yinkeys:
Okoye is not good enough to be number 1 he had his chance and is unreliable
Coach will regularly use Okonkwo soon
But Nwabali is mentally tough then the other guys and has proven himself in Afcon tournaments

I understand the logic of your last paragraph, but what can you do when the supposed elite goalkeeper playing in a top 5 league also drops average performances for the national team?

EElopa:
Dude, I agree with you on Ndidi, but I completely disagree with you on Iwobi. Alex Iwobi is the least of Nigeria's problems. Wilfred Ndidi, even in his prime, was neither a ball-playing nor a ball-carrying midfielder. He hides from the ball due to his limited ability with the ball at his feet. In his prime he made up these shortcomings with his V12 engine heart, world-class athleticism, and Jelaff legs that allowed him to intercept balls and win aerial duels and one-on-one battles in the midfield. It made him one of the top 10 defensive midfielders in the world back then. That leg and the V12 engine heart are gone, and he is now a complete liability for this team. Eric Chelle needs to develop the balls and let Ndidi simply concentrate on his club career. I don't see what he brings to the table now. His presence limits our ability to dominate the midfield due to his lack of ball-playing skills. When you have Ajayi and Ndidi on a team, it makes it very difficult to play smooth football due to the fact that both of these players simply cannot manipulate the football.

I am also still shocked that nobody on this message board has said anything about the stinker Ademola Lookman has dropped this window. Ademola Lookman was as bad as any player on the field in Uyo and in today's game. I cannot wait for the arrival of Femi Azeez, Yohanna, and the young German kid, Onyeka. Ademola Lookman needs to earn his place in the supereagles. Performances from him like he did this window should have him warming the bench next to Eric Chelle for a while. I have never seen or spoken to any African out here in the states that really see Lookman as an elite player. Most of them simply view him as a good player, and I am beginning to see why. How can I really view you as a world-class player when you are a NO SHOW for Nigeria on games that involved world powers like Losotho, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Benin, Rwanda, Madagascar, and Guinea-Bissau

Finally, If you have a high IQ and you can logically think, it will make absolutely zero sense to you why a goalkeeper who could not find a club even in Tanzania should be benching a goalkeeper who is a starter for a mid-table Serie A team, and Juventus and Inter Milan made an inquiry on him this offseason.

Na Akor o I saw that unfortunate sequence.

Can't honestly explain why almost all our players and national teams are crap at the moment.

If we were getting thrashed by Morocco, CIV, and Senegal it would be easier to stomach but losing against teams with limited talented compared to ourselves is nearly unforgivable.

Amedino99:
This is the worst performance i have ever seen under chelle. Pitch takes like 50% of the blame but simon overhitting a simple cross was too much for me to watch. There was even a play where we got of the ball via a stray pass from the guineans, 2 on 2 and the goat on the ball (usor or tolu) failed to do a simple forward pass and passed to the defender instead. It was as if the match was an audition of who can play the most rubb*sh and all our players were willing participants.

All my anger is now out..its calm. We already missed the world cup, male and female. We are fine, missing Afcon wont be any different. We look forward to the russia and November games.

Yeah yesterday's result has now eroded whatever goodwill fans had for him courtesy of his AFCON performance earlier in the year.

I back him to turn things around but he should know that the honeymoon is officially over.

If Nigerians could drag Rohr, Amodu, and even Keshi who achieved something tangible for us so Chelle should know he's nothing special to be above criticism.

minsfelix2:

It's been Ndidi and Iwobi unchallenged at least for the past 7-8 years.

Time to blend in younger midfield options.

What's the point of having an experienced midfield that struggles against Madagascar, G/Bissau and the likes?

SymphonyRad:
We're talking about phasing out that aging midfield and you still have hope that we will go anywhere with an Iwobi and Ndidi midfield? Are Nigerians naturally scared of trying new ideas? I mean look at your government, it's a reflection of the psyche I see here...always recycling old deadweights. What's wrong in calling up new and younger midfielders and just giving them a chance?
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 7:43pm On Sep 29
Sad but brutal truth. Gentlemen don't have the energy and aura to lead this midfield again.

Yusuf, Ebenezer, and Nnadi can't be much worse.

SolaFide:
In the future

Aside Iwobi

Ndidi, Onyeka and Onyedika have no business donning the green and white green

We need a total overhaul in midfield.

Ndidi is a tired war horse.
Onyeka reminds me of Esiti, Fegor Ogude.
Onyedika is not SE material.

We can still manage Alhassan in midfield.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 7:39pm On Sep 29
I agree that Nwabali has been looking too comfortable lately. Look at the first goal no anticipation. Few times when the ball was played over the top over our defenders instead of coming out to clear he was stuck in his 18 yard box.

Honestly don't know if Okoye is the solution but I want to see more of Okonkwo to see if he can step up.

I mentioned Ndidi's lack of pace few days earlier which often leaves him unable to close down his opponent or beat a high press. Onyeka can't give what he doesn't have so I wouldn't really put the blame on him for our midfield woes.

Chelle to needs to be more street smart. Save the fancy formation for when you have enough time to camp the players like before a tournament. For African qualifiers pick a pragmatic formation that doesn't leave us too exposed especially for away games.

joelsteron:
Nwabali lacks awareness. No bias, but Okoye should not be on the bench.

As for the midfield, Chelle needs to rethink it. We don't have the personnel to keep forcing the same setup. Onyeka isn't the answer to everything, Ndidi looks tired, and Iwobi shouldn't be our deep-lying playmaker.

We need someone who can actually control the tempo and move the ball forward.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 7:23pm On Sep 29
Disgraceful performance all round.

Chelle fall our hand today but some players really need to look themselves in the mirror. Save Usor, the George cameo, and maybe Bassey everyone else was piss poor.

It's really an indictment of Raphael that he can't dislodge a player whose movement and pace is nowadays akin to a Dangote trailer.

In all fairness Ndidi understands what kind of role Chelle expects of his midfielders unfortunately his lack of pace is his undoing.

elyte89:
Onyedika has shown several times dt he’s far from been ready to dislodge a weak ndidi …as bad as ndidi is ,I will always start him over onyedika..dt morrocan match sealed onyedika s fate..dt was d perfect match to seal ndidi to permanent bench role but he failed woefully

I commend Charlesemeka for his insistence we cap George as soon as possible.

Kid looks to have a high ceiling and this is the time to start grooming Osimhen's successor no matter how hopefully far off that might be.

He will find his way back to European top 5 leagues I'm sure. Just needs to keep growing his game and improve his craft.

TheSuperNerd:
Ilenikhena is the only one from the Saudi league and we did not recruit him for what he is doing now in the Saudi League. We recruited him for what he showed at ages 17 and 18 in Ligue 1, the UCL and in Belgium.

This was a chance for us to cap him and bring him home and we have done that.

He is the exception. More than anyone here, I want our lads in the best leagues but I also know how to apply context to certain invitations like Ilenikhena.

Lookman had been approached several times from his time at Everton to when he later joined RB Leipzig.

It was when he was starting to experience a dip in form especially in Germany that he began reconsidering his international commitments.

Ibadan? Lookman family wey be Isale-Eko.

I don't understand why you mentioned Lookman in the context of this conversation. Lookman was an U20 player for England Struggling for gametime at Everton. Not a fan of Okoye delaying his arrival for less serious engagements but the NFF shouldn't have hung him out to dry since he had already informed them and the coaching crew. They could have released a statement since saying he would join up later instead of making Maduka look unprofessional with his absence.

As for Maduka this will only add more fuel to doubts about his commitment to the national team. If he's really desperate to reclaim his number 1 position I'm yet to see that in his performances and response to call ups in general.

That said I rate him highly as a talented up and coming goalkeeper.

Well said.

I haven't totally given up on Madueke. Some of his performances in last season's UCL and a few EPL still gives me a glimmer of hope he can perform reasonably for the team. Don't want Dowman at this point of his development to be overly burdened with digging the team out of tricky situations.

BlueRayDick:
You get. We've not been playing badly this season at all, that Brighton match is like our worse performance in ages. I'm sure it's a performance the players and the coaching staff want to quickly put behind their backs .

As good as our defenders are, they also need to take away lessons from that Brighton game. By now they must have realised that even though David Raya is the best shot stopper in the league, he is still human Afterall. A well drilled shot will beat him sooner or later when the defense don't close down opponents well enough and allow them luxury of picking their angle.

Rice & Bruno Guimaraes partnership lack that fluidity that we've been enjoying in the middle since the start of season. Whatever needs to give, I want to believe Arteta will either find a way for their partnership to work or drop one of them to the bench.

I also think Arteta needs to be make bold decisions when it comes to Saka's recent performance. We all know Saka is the face of Arsenal as far as home grown talent becoming a star is concerned, but sometimes Arteta needs to help him to help himself. I know with time Saka has proven then so far he is still on the pitch , he can always come up with new tricks from his hat, but it will not always work.

Arteta needs to start having thoughts of bringing on Dowman early to come up with magic on that Saka's wing. I don't rate Madueke and don't believe he would be our saviour on Saka's bad days, but I think Dowman has it in him. His performance in that match against Everton last season in the run-off to the title win has convinced me the boy can always bail us out on bad days.

Exactly. This is in my honest our worst game in three seasons even at that Brighton had to be at their absolute best to beat us.

We have played 5 away games this season and won 4 hardly the basis to start panicking.

Mikel will sort them.

I think Saka needs some talking to. Needs to up his game. He's capable of better.

Kai can't give what he doesn't have so I won't unnecessarily criticise him. Hopefully Arteta recognizes this and tweaks the attack.

BlueRayDick:
How are we anywhere belle face?

We played excellently well against city, We played free flowing football against conventry city, we took Chelsea apart , We got the result despite spirited efforst by Sunderland and Napoli.

Brighton was the first bad game we had this season; it should serve as a learning curve and not reason to panic at all. It shouldn't lead us to start making it seem the team has been bad since the season started.

I'm Arteta and the boys would watch and re-watch clips of the Brighton game and see the phases of the match where they messed up. I'm sure they will work their way around the issues and come back stronger. I understand the fans are wary of City taking an early lead at the top of the log, but the good thing is it is just 3 points lead which can be reduced to zero in due time should we get our acts right on time.

I strongly believe we will turn the tide after the international break.

I think the ref also contributed a bit alongside other terrible calls. He allowed Brobbey to hold Konsa off through his blatant shirt pulling. The ref deciding to ignore that obvious rough play for reasons best known to him gave Brobbey the confidence and leeway to use whatever tactics to get the best of Konsa.

Yes Brobbey was a pain to deal with yesterday but the refs gave him the license to deploy whatever necessary means. On the flipside if Gabby or Konsa so much as breathed on a Sunderland player a foul was called. That ridiculous pen a case in point.

In terms of areas that need strengthening I concur completely although I think our CB options are already fine with Mosquera and Konsa deputising for Big Gab and Saliba.

Eze is on a bit of a slight fraud watch for me. His output lately hasn't excited me.

mostob:
The funny thing is this Arsenal still needs reinforcements . A goalie, 2 defenders(RB and LCB), a midfielder (AM.. Nico Paz?) and two forwards (LW and a replacement for Brock Lesnar).

He said few days ago that he somehow incorporated unforseen issues (like late flight and so on) into the pre season activities so the players and staff would be able to cope if such issues come up during the season.
