The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Sunday said the Federal Government was working diligently toward making life more meaningful for Nigerians through carefully designed projects. Mohammed made the assertion in Lagos at the 8th Alhaji Kafaru Tinubu Memorial Ramadan Lecture the theme: “Supreme Sacrifice and the Essence of Followership in Governance’’. He said that the government was aware of the plight of many citizens due to the challenges in the economy. According to him, a N500 billion Social Intervention Programme has been put in place to help alleviate poverty. The minister said the huge money earmarked for the intervention programme in the 2016 budget was one of the sacrifices the government had to make in the face of falling revenue. “This government is making a lot of sacrifices and it is also expecting a lot of sacrifices from the people. “The N500 billion Social Intervention Programme which is broken into five parts covers employment of 500, 000 unemployed graduates who will be trained as teachers. “It also covers the employment of 100, 000 artisans as well as the One-Meal-A-Day programme for pupils in primary schools. “The Enterprise Scheme which is targeted at one million market men and women, 460, 000 artisans, 200, 000 agriculture workers is also covered in the programme. “It also covers the N5,000 monthly conditional cash transfer to the poor and vulnerable,’’ he said. Mohammed dismissed some media reports that some states claimed they were not ready for the A-Meal-A-Day programme due to funding challenges. He emphasised that the federal government was solely responsible for the funding of the programme. According to him, the pilot scheme of the programme has started and it will cover 5.5 million pupils when fully on stream. The minister also advised Muslims to uphold the lessons of Ramadan by shunning vices and making sacrifices for others and the nation. In his lecture, Prof. Ahmid Sanni, Chief Imam, Lagos State University, said that the virtue of sacrifice was beyond prayers and fasting. According to him, it also requires the show of love and care to the less privileged in the society. In his remarks, Gov. Ambode of Lagos State extolled the virtues of the late Alhaji Kafaru Tinubu, the Patriarch of the Tinubu Family in Central Lagos. Ambode, represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, described Tinubu as a man who lived all his life for others. He urged Muslims to be in the vanguard for peace, especially during the Ramadan, adding that they must also be tolerant and friendly. “I continue to urge all of us to imbibe that kind of spirit, the spirit that cares for people who are not necessarily our biological children or relation. “His life should be a lesson to all of us due to his tolerance, love, passion, justice and dedication to the ways of Almighty Allah,’’ he said. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the late Kafaru Tinubu was a former President of the Anwar-UI Islam Movement of Nigeria. Why Nigerian Army desires partnership with Nollywood By Benjamin Njoku Movie buffs in Nigeria are looking forward to the premiere of a game-changing film rooted in the events of the botched 1976 coup. One of the most arduous tasks in the production of the movie, according to its Executive Director, Prince Tonye Princewill, was the effort to secure a working relationship with the Nigerian Army. *Rita Dominic and Ramsey Nouah on set Meticulously executed, the pre-production period took two years including eight months of trying to secure all necessary permission from the Nigerian Army and seven months of shooting. The script was scrutinised and an officer appointed to supervise and monitor each step of the filming process, from beginning to the end. The movie survived three Chiefs of Army Staff. Fortunately, each one of them who took over sustained interest in the film. Determined to make it work, the production crew and cast patiently followed every instruction and met every demand from the military authorities. A letter from the Headquarters, Nigeria Army, Department of Civil-Military Affairs signed by Major General R. I. Nicholas for the Chief of Army Staff disclosed why the military institution desires a collaboration with the creative industry. “This is in furtherance to a need to build a collaborative relationship between the Nigeria Army and the movie industry. We believe that the movie will assist in shaping the current effort at improving the civil-military relations and also educate our people on some of the historic values of the Nigeria Army.” A large part of the action was shot at the Mokola Barracks in Ibadan, Oyo State. As the 200-member cast and crew stayed together for about seven months, bonding as a family was inevitable. Some of the striking human interest events that happened in the course of production were birthdays, weddings and passages. Chidi Mokeme and Debo Oguns, literarily got married on set (they just excused themselves for the weekend of their marriage and came right back to work, after the ceremony). Princewill thinks ’76 is watershed of sorts in Nollywood, being the first time the Nigerian Army would encourage that level of involvement in a movie that comments on military history and an epoch in the Nigerian Army. Having opened the door, he is sure the imagination of other movie makers would be fired to follow the precedence of ’76. The movie was shot at Mokola Barracks in Ibadan and the story of how the actors were made to fit into the environment should be reserved for another day. The big budget movie which costs about N100 million promises to earn more accolades for Izu Ojukwu as director. The award-winning director is known for his work in flicks like ‘Mirror Boy’ and ‘Last Flight to Abuja.’ Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/nigerian-army-desires-partnership-nollywood/ |

I can confidently tell you that the staring wheel got locked while on motion which resulted to that fatality. Peugeot 406 prestige cars are like that. Almost lost one of my loved ones through that. We just had to get the car fixed and off we sold in a give away price. Still clean though. |
