The Gowon government created a state for the eastern minorities and Ojukwu did not recognize it. That led to the civil war but even without that other things would have led to it

Yes, I agree with you — “other things” like the Igbos thinking they could dominate other tribes and pocket Nigeria for themselves alone. Gowon did the right thing by removing the then Eastern minorities from the shackles of Igbo dominance. Southern Cameroonians would have stayed and remained part of Nigeria but for the overbearing and oppressive nature of the Igbos. Ojukwu was a greedy, unintelligent man driven only by emotion.

Would there have been a civil war if Mr. Azikiwe had not stupidly opposed the secession clause in the Constitution as proposed by Chief Awolowo?
