Where does MTN generate VAT and where is it remitted? Just bold your answer. You just copy textbook definition that is NOT applicable in Nigeria. This is the problem with our education ... theory without application.

The VAT MTN generates in Maiduguri is collected in Lagos. So, how is Lagos the more productive State? The imports that are going to Onitsha is VATed in Apapa, what is Anambra stake in it? The VAT NNPC generates in Olibiru is collected in Abuja, so tell me how your TEXTBOOK definition makes sense.

Gibberish! Oyo State alone generates more VAT than all five South-East states combined. Are you saying that the VAT MTN generates in Maiduguri is collected in Oyo State too, or that imports going to Onitsha are also VAT-assessed in Oyo State?

If your argument is that Lagos generates so much VAT because most companies have their headquarters there, is that why Oyo State generates more VAT than all the South-East states combined? I deliberately left out Ogun State for obvious reasons. Lol! I explained what drives high VAT generation, but you ignorantly described it as a “textbook definition.” Look, man, there are no two ways about it: VAT reflects the purchasing power and the economic activity of the people in the area where it is generated. That’s just the truth!

You can’t be shutting down businesses every Monday in your region while indulging in anti-social and anti-economic activities and still expect your region to do well economically. Heck no — data doesn’t lie, man! Almost all your villages are deserted — everybody is in Lagos and other South Western states— and here you are arguing about VAT! Why do you think your people are labelled "economic migrants" in Nigeria?

Chinedu,if your region were truly economically viable, you wouldn’t see so many of your people relocating to other parts of the country in search of better prospects.

What is VAT on one Cow from Katsina?
What is VAT rate on A tuber of yam from Benue?
Your VAT collections simply means you are a NET CONSUMER.
You consume manufactured goods that are VATABLE.
You consume IMPORTED goods that are VATABLE.
You CONSUME oil and gas from Niger Delta and pay VAT.
Tell me what you produce in South West, NOTHING!

Ondo State alone produces more oil than the combined output of all the South-East states. Go and verify it.

VAT, a tax payable on consumption, reflects the purchasing power and economic activity of the people in the area where it is generated. Therefore, if the South-East is generating the least VAT in Nigeria, it clearly shows that the region has the lowest level of economic activity in the country. Higher VAT collections generally indicate stronger economic activity and spending levels in the area where they are generated. Productivity cannot truly be high in a region where businesses are shut down every Monday. I think you should stop deceiving yourself.

I have always said it, and here I am repeating it — Nigeria cannot afford to have individuals from the same backgrounds as those implicated in the country’s insecurity challenges occupying sensitive security positions. The Americans are not as careless as the Nigerian government! The truth behind Nigeria’s insecurity is not far-fetched — Islam and Fulani are majorly fingered.

Why on earth does Nigeria have people from this same background – Fulani and Muslims as Defence Ministers and as the National Security Adviser? It is a misnomer! I personally have a soft spot for Malam Nuhu Ribadu — he is an upright man — but he also comes from that background. So, like Badaru and Matawalle, he may have to step aside.

This is the time for Nigeria to take its security architecture seriously — no room for sabotage!
