One of the best feelings a woman experiences each day is the joy of coming home from work and taking their bra off.
Honestly, there's nothing quite like it - other than perhaps the relief we feel after stepping out of a pair of skyscraper heels.
While bras do great work supporting the breasts, they're not always the most comfortable of things.
One woman knows this struggle all too well and has taken to a parenting forum to find out whether it would be ok if she just stopped wearing them.
Named Nicola, the woman shared a post on NetMums asking if she could get in trouble for not wearing a bra at work.
She said: "In 2018 would I get in bother if I didn't wear a bra at work?
"I just find them uncomfortable and I think everyone is well aware that people have nipples and I am not doing this for attention I just feel I shouldn't be forced to wear something."
Nicola goes to to express her disgust in the idea of women wearing something just to stop people feeling uncomfortable or to prevent men from looking at her chest.

"Who cares if some nipples are in the centre pointing down, a bit to the left or haven't even got any. It's 2018, I shouldn't have to wear something because it will make people feel less uncomfortable/stop men looking or just because it's the norm."
The woman finishes the post by asking: "Does anyone else agree? Or am I a hippie that wishes to bun all bras?"

Samsung didn't announce a new folding phone last night but it did tease us with a brief look at a prototype device. But there's no confirmed name yet and no look at the hardware Samsung will eventually release.
Samsung was even using a strong backlight to keep the phone hidden from view. We do know it's a bit of a chunky monkey, but more than that we can only see a few details about how it looks.
We have some rough ideas about what this phone will offer and when it will arrive though. There are also more questions to answer in the coming months as Samsung gets ready to launch some sort of folding device.
The end game, of course, is to make devices as thin (or thinner) than current phones than can be folded in half when not being used. We may be a few years away from that though, so view this as a concept as much as anything.
How much will it cost?
It's not clear, but it won't be cheap.
The cost of setting up a new manufacturing line is expensive and especially on low-yield products this would mean a high retail price.
This was true when Samsung first launched phones with curved displays like the Note Edge and S6 Edge.
When will it be available?
Next year some time. We may know more after January's Consumer Electronics Show where Samsung could demonstrate the final hardware design.
The prototype might be used as a developer device to help app creators build special interfaces that take advantage of the large screen. These may be sold, or Samsung might give them to devs to encourage them to create services.
How good will the screen be?
The 7.3-inch screen should have a resolution of around 1536 x 2152. That's a decent resolution but how it's used will be key.
Having a wider display opens up the possibility to either have two things open at once, side-by-side. Or using the wider display to make the most of apps where you want to read or see more on screen.
For web browsing and photo viewing a bigger screen should be absolutely fantastic.
How is it different to a normal phone?
Samsung is gearing up for a change to how it designs its Android OS. A more simple user interface was teased yesterday and it's likely the new folding Galaxy X (or F) will use this.
Because a normal phone is much taller than wide we're used to apps fitting into that form factor. On the bendable phone there's more space, but how apps use that will be make or break for the device.
Will it, for example, support the S-pen from the Note range? If so, that could make this a very nifty too for business users or creative people.
What about that thickness?
Well, from the preview at the developer conference you couldn't exactly describe the folding phone as svelte. It was thick in tablet mode and even thicker when folded up.
But there's a lot we don't know here. Samsung says it's putting the device into mass manufacture soon, but it doesn't say if the product shown on stage will be the one it makes.
This may simply have been a tech demo, with a more desirable and consumer friendly phone in the works.
Inevitably a hinge and folding screens will add some depth to the device. However for people to actually want to own one it's going to need to look as pretty as Samsung's other phones.
We'll have to wait and see on this one.

Mum-of-four Sharon Spink insisted feeding daughter Charlotte Spink until earlier this year was completely normal and has cemented a lifelong bond between them.
She said despite doing it for almost a decade she is happy the schoolgirl made her own decision to stop two months ago.
Actor mum Sharon, who supports natural term weaning, claims Charlotte is healthy and rarely gets ill thanks to the beneficial properties of 'mummy milk'.
And despite facing a backlash from critics who have accused her of child abuse, Sharon, 50, wants to break down the stigma around breastfeeding older children - believing there are many mums out there doing it.
Sharon, from Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, said: "When I came to have Charlotte, I had decided on natural term weaning.
"It's nice for the child to be in control of when they want to wean, rather than forcing the issue.
"She naturally self-weaned earlier this year.
"It was a gradual process and her choice.
"She was feeding about once a month if she wasn't feeling great or was feeling a bit run down, and was going longer and longer without feeding.
"Now she hasn't done it for about two months.
"She told me she would stop when she was 10 which will be in April next year but it seems to have come to a natural end earlier, although I would have allowed her to continue for as long as wants to.
"As she's been reducing anyway I don't feel sad about it. If she would have stopped suddenly I think I would have missed it, but it's just nice that it's come to a natural end.
"It's how I envisaged it would end. It was her choice and was done in a very gradual way.
"We haven't had a discussion about her not doing it anymore. I just hope when she's older she'll remember that feeling of comfort and security it gave her rather than it being about feeding.
"We have such a close bond and I'm convinced it's because of breastfeeding her for so long.
"It cemented our bond and I don't think that will change now it's stopped. I think we're closer because of doing it. I haven't had any pangs since she stopped and she still comes for a cuddle.
"With Charlotte it about was the security. Children find a lot of comfort in the breast, and the older they get the more it becomes about comfort rather than nutrition."
Sharon claims Charlotte is very healthy and rarely gets ill due to breast milk's boost to the immune system.
The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding up to six months with continued breastfeeding along with complementary foods up to two years of age or beyond.
Sharon said she was determined to breastfeed Charlotte after struggling to do it with her other three children Kim, 30, Sarah, 28, and Isabel, 12.
Sharon, who last year qualified as a breast feeding counsellor, said: "I breastfed my first two children for a couple of weeks and my daughter Isabel for about six months but I ran into problems and felt like there was a lack of support.
"When Isabel was four months old she lost weight and I had to supplement that with formula.
"I was determined to make it work for Charlotte.
"My initial goal was to get past the six months mark then it became 12 months then two years which is the WHO minimum recommendation. After that it was seeing how far she wanted to go.
"There were times when I wanted to give up especially in the early days of feeding but you think I'm doing this for my child. This is what she wants and I'll carry on because I know it's helping her.
"By four and a half Charlotte was sleeping through the night but she'd still come into the bed and have a feed.
"Sometimes I wouldn't even realise and I'd ask her the next day whether she came in in the night to feed."
Sharon said at the age of five Charlotte was feeding three times a day but this has been gradually reducing over the last four years until she was doing it about once a month.
She said she used to feed Charlotte in public places including the hairdressers, supermarket and church but now just does it at home.
Sharon said: "She stopped feeding in public when she was about four or five.
"Charlotte doesn't talk about it at school. It's not something that would come up in conversation with schoolmates.
"The reaction I get from within the breastfeeding community is one of support. There were a lot of positive comments.
"Obviously there have been the negatives - usually from typical keyboard warriors who post their opinion.
"I have been called every name under the sun. I've been told it's child abuse, I've been called a paedophile and told it's wrong and that I'm a freak.
"The first time it upset me because I wasn't used to it but now it's water off a duck's back.
"Charlotte knows it's not true and people I care about know it's not true.
"I explain to her that they are people who do not know her or us or our situation.
"Our family and friends are very supportive.
"I'm sure it's more common that people think but mums are too scared to talk about it and are scared of the backlash from people that don't understand that it's normal.
"I just want to let other mums out there who are wondering 'should I or should I not?' that this is normal and this is what children do.
"If they feed for as long as they want to they will naturally wean.
"In a lot of countries it's perfectly normal to breastfeed older children and they will do it for a lot longer than we do in the west.
"She's not had an ear infection, cough or cold for a long time but it's hard to say what the long term health benefits will be as I can't turn back the clock and see how it would be had she stopped earlier.
"When compared to my other three children I would say she is healthier and doesn't get as many coughs, colds and tummy aches.
"She's got all her adult teeth. I'd read when they get all their adult teeth they lose the ability to latch on but it seems to be fine.
"For quite a while she fed on the left side and every so often she'd try the other side and say it tastes different.
"I can't express milk anymore, but I still was able to produce it when she fed."
Sharon said Charlotte's dad, CAD manager Paul Spink, 45, is understanding.
But she admitted her choice to breastfeed Charlotte may have caused a bit of jealousy with her older sister Isabel.
She said: "He just lets us get on with it although he doesn't really have a choice."
"Isabel is laid back about it. I think when she was younger it caused problems with jealousy with Charlotte getting more of mummy's time.
"We made a point of Charlotte having a feed for half an hour at bedtime then I would sit with Isabel for half an hour.
"There has been the odd time when Isabel said 'can I have a go? I wouldn't know how to do it' and she would pretend to feed.
"I hope that this has helped Charlotte decide if she wants to breastfeed when she's older."
Former jewellery maker Sharon said she feels proud about what her body has achieved.
Sharon said: "It feels empowering doing something like this.
"All four of my children were born by c-section and I felt like my body had failed. I hated feeling like that but it was true.
"I've grown up and learned so much more now. I look back and I've got four healthy children who had they not been born by c-section would not be here today.
"With breastfeeding when it doesn't happen you feel like your body is not working properly. I tried to breastfeed three children and failed and that made me more determined.
"I feel like my body is doing what it's supposed to be doing. It's what breasts are for.
"We have to support mums. It's about choice."

There are lots of benefits of having sex while pregnant, and some women even say it's more enjoyable when they're expecting.
But in the later months when the bump is getting big, many couples find their old positions aren't that comfortable anymore.
Don't worry, according to the parenting website BabyCentre there are lots of other things to try.

Get on top
Being on top means there's no weight on your uterus.
Try sitting on your partner's lap when he's sitting on a chair - but make sure it's nice and sturdy!
This means you can control the penetration by standing or squatting, so you can do whatever is comfortable.
You can also try straddling your partner when he's lying down, either facing him or facing away.
According to BabyCentre: "This position has been shown to be associated with higher levels of sexual satisfaction in pregnant women."

Use a table or counter

Sit on the table and get your other half to stand in front of you and wrap your legs around him.
When your bump starts getting bigger simply lean back a bit so it doesn't get in the way.
Sit on a cushion if it's a hard surface so it's not too uncomfortable.
Alternatively you can try bending over it and getting your partner to stand behind you

Spooning

Lie side by side in a spooning position with the man behind.
As well as keeping his weight off your bump, by resting your leg on a pile of pillows he'll only be able to penetrate lightly which most pregnant women find more comfortable

Doggy

Lots of women say this position is great for the last few months of pregnancy as there's no weight on the back or pelvis.
If the peneration is too deep, get him to put a pillow between your bottom and his lower back.

Lots of couples love this sex style because it allows the male partner to go deep. And any position that offers more depth will increase your chances of having a baby, Jennifer Landa, MD, an ob-gyn at BodyLogicMD in Orlando, tells Health.

“Doggie style may be a great position for trying to get pregnant because you have excellent depth of penetration, putting the head of the joystick right at the cervical opening—which means that sperm are released in an optimal position for travel through the cervix,” says Dr. Landa.

For some getting pregnant is straightforward, it happens naturally with no fertility appointments or specialists needed to help create a family.
However not everyone is this lucky, some people experience various problems along the way and the three minute wait after peeing on a pregnancy test can feel agonising.
These intense emotions were recently captured in a very poignant way by a young woman named Megan Lynne Ferrero.

In a viral post on Facebook, Megan shared a simple snap of a negative pregnancy test and poured her heart out about the pain of 'almost' pregnancies.
The post has since been shared over 63,000 times and has garnered more than 49,000 likes.
She starts by informing readers that everyone always talks about positive test results but we rarely hear about the struggles of the negatives.
"We rarely talk about waiting for the screen to fill up and noticing it skipped right over that first line that should've been there and goes right to that solo second 'not pregnant' line," says the mum-of-one.
Megan goes on to reveal that even when this happens to her, she can't stop herself from checking the test after she's gotten an unwanted result, just in case it changes - and sometimes she'll even take it out of the bin days later to check.

And her desperate attempts to turn a negative test into a positive one don't end there.
She goes on to explain how she takes a picture "of the test with flash off. Then with it on. Then upside down in a handstand. Then editing the picture to make it lighter or darker or crisper or blurrier" trying to see if any angle or edit will make a second line appear.
Unsurprisingly her efforts prove futile and the result stays the same.
Following this, she discusses her disappointment over the time she has wasted thinking about when the baby would be born and all the "cute" ways she could have announced her pregnancy.
"It starts with picturing that you'll be able to announce with something like 'Red, White and Due' on the 4th of July. Then it turns into possibly making a surprise trip home to tell the family before summer is over.
"Then August and September pass and you decide it's okay because announcing at Halloween is just as exciting. And then Halloween passes and you still haven't gotten a positive."
She adds: "They tell you stressing over it just makes it even harder for it to happen, so you try to pretend you're not stressing because apparently that makes your whole reproductive system turn on you.
"But you can't help but panic a little when the months keep going by and you don't have a brother or sister in there for your current child and the idea of having them close in age becomes more and more of an unrealistic fantasy."
Megan finishes her post with an encouraging message to other women experiencing the same thing.
"Regardless of how long you've been struggling this struggle or if you struggled with it in the past - I see you, I feel you, I am you."
Fellow parents were incredibly inspired by her words and decided to share their own struggles in the comments below.
One person wrote: "Three years and four miscarriages. It is hard, but there is hope sometimes."
Another replied: "It took me four years and five miscarriages but my rainbow baby arrived and will be three on Tuesday."
A third added: "I struggled with this for five years. Everything you said. It was a horrible experience."

Six people linked to the far right were arrested in France on Tuesday as part of an investigation into a suspected plot to attack President Emmanuel Macron, officials told CNN Tuesday.
France's intelligence agency, the DGSI, said the six people were arrested in three separate regions: Isère, southeast of Lyon; Moselle, on the border with Germany and Luxembourg; and Ille-et-Vilaine, in the northwest near the city of Rennes.

The suspects include five men and a woman between the ages of 22 and 62, a judicial source close to the probe told CNN. All have connections to the far right, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
"The investigation is looking into an imprecise and loosely formed plan for violent action against the President of the Republic," said the judicial source, who declined to be named discussing an ongoing investigation.

The arrests come after Macron warned in an interview with Le Courrier Picard on Sunday of the rising threat of the far-right movement, adding that complacency in the early 1900s paved the way for Hiter's rise in Germany and Mussolini in Italy.
According to Reuters, France's far-right euroskeptic National Rally -- formerly known as the National Front -- is leading the polls against Macron ahead of the European Parliament election in May. The party is led by Marine Le Pen.

One of the world’s richest men, Bill Gates, says toilet is a serious business as he unveiled a futuristic toilet (Reinvented Toilet) that uses chemicals to turn human waste into fertiliser.
The Reinvented Toilet is a collection of innovative technologies that use different approaches to break down human waste and destroy germs – leaving behind clean water and solids that can be used as fertiliser… or that can be disposed of safely outdoors without further treatment.
The mega-rich philanthropist said he has bet about $200 million to the project and he’s expecting to spend the same amount before the toilet will be available for wide-scale distribution.

Gates said the reinvented toilet market could generate $6 billion a year worldwide by 2030 and save $233 billion annually in costs linked to diarrhoea, cholera and other diseases caused by poor water, sanitation and hygiene.
The 63-year-old billionaire unveiled the toilet on Monday, November 5, 2018, at a trade event in Shanghai, China.
At the event, Gates caused some giggles in the crowd when he used a beaker of poop as a prop during his speech.
The co-founder of Microsoft said poor sanitation is a serious issue that kills more than 500,0000 people every year.

“To help address this problem, we worked with partners to develop a small-scale treatment plant to process fecal sludge and biosolids from pit latrines, septic tanks, and sewers. The self-powered technology—which can be located almost anywhere—is called the Omni-Processor. It takes in human waste, kills dangerous pathogens, and converts the resulting materials into products with potential commercial value—like clean water, electricity, and fertilizer.”
According to him, the initial demand for the Reinvented Toilet will be in places like schools, apartment buildings, and community toilet facilities.
An end of open defecation in Nigeria?
The toilet of the future will help some African countries like Nigeria to address the lack of proper toilet facilities. According to the United Nations, an estimated 108 million Nigerians still lack access to toilets as many still practice an age-old culture of open defecation.
It will also help the country to save cost on diarrhoea, cholera and other diseases caused by poor water, sanitation and hygiene.

Festus Keyamo, Director, Strategic Communications, of the President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation, on Monday night criticised ATiku ABubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Pary (PDP), over his claim that he would lower the pump price of petrol to N77/litre if elected President.
According to Keyamo, there is no chance any President could sell the product for any price in the region of what is being mentioned by Atiku, as the landing price is alone if N205/litre.
"Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to the PDP a few days ago that its presidential candidate, H.E. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will, if elected President, crash the pump price of petrol to N97 per litre. However, there is no better evidence of desperation and phantom promises by the main opposition’s candidate than this statement," he said.

"At today’s international price of gasoline, no supplier will ever contemplate any scheme that will deliver products at such ridiculous price. Those in the sector reading this must be having a good laugh at the opposition. A simple check at the international prices will show that even at the world market where gasoline is procured, it will cost not less than N158 to procure a litre of crude oil. When you add the cost of refining, plus freight, finance and port charges (premium), there is no magic that one would employ to supply the finished product at N145 a litre. Presently, the landing cost of the product in Nigeria hovers around N205 per litre.

"The claim by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is opportunism of the highest order. Nigerians are aware that higher crude oil prices will translate to higher government revenues and a prudent administration will convert the resources to the benefit of the common man.
"This is exactly what President Muhammadu Buhari has done since he mounted the saddle in 2015. The President has worked out a transparent system whereby the whole subsidy regime and scam has been totally eliminated. There is no cash incentive or payment again to middlemen."
Keyamo then went on to itemise the President’s "transparent policy", in 20 points showing the impossibility of Atiku's postulations, as follows:
(1) What obtained under the past government was the ABUSE of the subsidy regime.
(2) The system under the past Government was that independent marketers and all sort of persons were allowed to import petroleum products on their own, declare non-existent volumes of these products and get paid for these non-existent volumes.
(3) In addition, government would then pay them cash for the “loses” (subsidy) in selling at fixed market price.
(4) Under this old system, more than N3trillion was lost.
(5) However, when these independent marketers could no longer bring in products due to high prices of crude and make profit at the fixed market price of N145 to a litre, President Buhari refused to further raise the price of petroleum products beyond the N145 per litre. The President was also not prepared to go back to the subsidy regime. Therefore, President Buhari stopped the scam of overblown volumes and subsidy payments to middlemen.
(6) As a result, NNPC took full charge of getting products for consumption.
(7) Under this arrangement, NNPC would swap crude oil for the exact value of finished products in refineries anywhere the products are available around the world.
( Middlemen are only allowed to go and ferry the products and bring into the country and hand over to NNPC.
(9) NNPC will only then pay them for the cost of the logistics of bringing the products in (this is what is called premium).
(10) Even this cost of logistics is now subject to competitive bidding unlike before.
(11) In the past, marketers used to charge $86 per metric ton as cost of logistics (premium) to bring in products.
(12) Under Buhari’s regime when it was subjected to competitive bidding, the highest the government got was $7 per metric ton as cost of logistics to bring in products. More than N3billion has been saved by this bidding process.
(13) Having gotten the value of the crude oil back in terms of finished products, NNPC will now sell at government controlled price which is far lower than the landing cost.
(14) Presently, the landing cost is around N205 per litre, but government sells at N145 per litre.
(15) Therefore, Government just records a loss in NNPC instead of paying cash to middlemen. That loss it suffers is fully reflected when NNPC pays money into the Federation Account.
(16) This also further affects the money accruing to States monthly from the Federation Account.
(17) As a result, this loss that NNPC suffers, (which is recorded as cost of operation of NNPC) is fully subjected to scrutiny by the National Economic Council which also includes the PDP Governors and the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), which includes Commissioners of Finance from PDP States.
(18) If anybody alleges a scam in the process, then the PDP Governors and the States would also be involved because they are involved in jointly scrutinizing the records of NNPC at NEC and FAAC.
(19) No cash settlement for any under recovery is involved, therefore there is no basis for any subsidy payments which is the avenue for fraud.
(20) Therefore, it is true that Buhari is not paying subsidy to anybody.

Following last month’s report on the film, Will Smith (Aladdin) has taken to Instagram to confirm the news that he and Martin Lawrence will return for the third Bad Boys movie, Bad Boys for Life. Further details for the third film are currently being kept under wraps but you can check out the video below!
The original Bad Boys made $141.4 million worldwide back in 1995, while its sequel, simply titled Bad Boys 2, erupted for $273.3 million during the 2003 summer movie season. Both were directed by Michael Bay, who then departed for the Transformers series.
Since then, various writers and directors have flirted with the project, including Joe Carnahan, who was already in the pre-viz stage with several action scenes, but ultimately vacated the gig in March of 2017 due to scheduling and/or creative differences, depending on the source.
Directing duties then fell to Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who are best known for directing episodes of FX’s Snowfall.
“These guys are amazing,” Panitch said. “They loved the first movies, but they’re not afraid to change things up.”

Earlier today, there were reports that the first son of Biafra warlord, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, Sylvester Debe Ojukwu, has died. According to online reports, the 62-year-old Ojuwku died in a Lagos hospital on Friday November 2nd after a brief illness.

Reacting to the reports, Bianca Ojukwu, widow of Biafran warlord, Dim Odumegwu-Ojukwu, said she cannot confirm the report of his death. In an interview with Punch, Bianca said it is not in her place to confirm such news.

''According to our tradition, it is not my role to make such announcements. We have elders in the family, who have such duties and functions. It’s not part of my duties”, she said.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and other pro Biafra group’s agitation for Sovereign State of Biafra have been described as justifiable move to achieve fairness, equity and justice for Igbo people in Nigeria.
The Biafra agitation justification was yesterday made by the Spiritual Director, Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma in Onitsha.

Rev. Fr. Obimma who was in Onitsha to commission Udobi Ikedunu Shopping Plaza, built by Chief Vincent Udobi, while addressing thousands of people who gathered to catch a glimpse of him said “IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his supporters are fighting injustice against Igbo people in Nigeria.
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu led IPOB is fighting a justifiable cause demanding for Biafra actualization due to injustice and other unfair treatment meted against Igbo in Nigeria.”
The charismatic Catholic preacher popularly known as “Ebube Monso” also said that “there is so much nepotism, tribalism, intimidation, harassment, unfair and unequal treatment against Igbo people by the present administration in Nigeria, and such treatment justifies the agitation by Nnamdi Kanu led IPOB.”

“The present administration has been most unfair to Igbo people, if there is fairness, equity and justice by the present administration in Nigeria, there will not be any reason for Biafra agitation.”
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not a selfish man, his agitation for Biafra is not for selfish interest, he is crying for justice, equity, fairness and liberation for his people in Nigeria

Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has been sentenced to 50 days in jail for breaking a taxi driver's jaw after refusing to pay the £5 fare.

The 30-year-old, who now plays for Norwegian side Rosenborg, was partying with his girlfriend before hailing a cab just after 2am on September 9th. Having argued with the driver over his route, Bendtner, who earned £50,000 a week and his model partner left the car and were pursued by the driver.

Bendtner then punched the man in the jaw before kicking him as he lay on the ground. He admitted to hitting the taxi driver but said it was because he felt threatened when the driver threw a can towards him. The Denmark international, who was also ordered to pay £176 in compensation, argued he acted in self-defence and was released on appeal.
The driver was acquitted of violence but fined £353 for using his phone while driving and not wearing his seatbelt. Bendtner, who will not be sacked by Rosenborg, issued an grovelling apology at a press conference three days after the incident.

Since leaving Arsenal in 2014, Bendtner has played for Wolfsburg, Nottingham Forest and now Rosenborg where he has scored 33 goals in 75 games. While at the Emirates, he spent time on loan at Birmingham, Sunderland and Juventus and has won 81 caps for his country, scoring 30 goals.

India has unveiled the world's tallest statue, which cost 29.9bn rupees (£330m; $430m) to build.
The 182m (600ft) high structure in the western state of Gujarat is a bronze-clad tribute to independence leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the "statue of unity" would serve as a major tourist attraction.
But locals say this is as a waste of public money and that the funds could have been put to better use.
Mr Modi, who unveiled the statue at a grand inaugural event, said it is "a symbol of India's integrity and resolve."
Air Force planes showered flowers on the statue, which was designed by decorated Indian sculptor Ram V Sutar.
According to local reports, thousands of policemen have been deployed across the district, where protests over the effigy have turned violent. Police detained farmers and tribal activists during a protest on Tuesday.
The statue has become a rallying point for local farmers who are demanding compensation for land that they say has been acquired by the government for various projects, including the construction of the memorial.
The Gujarat government is reported to have paid more than half of the funds for the statue, while the remainder came from the federal government or public donations.

The memorial has been seen as a pet project of Mr Modi, who like Patel, was born in Gujarat. He commissioned the statue when he was the state's chief minister in 2010.
It is nearly twice as tall as New York's Statue of Liberty. And it has surpassed the height of the Spring Temple Buddha in China which, at 128m, was previously the tallest in the world.
But it won't remain the world's tallest statue for long. The government in the western state of Maharashtra is constructing a memorial to the Maratha warrior king Shivaji that is estimated to be 190m tall.
Patel was India's first interior minister and deputy prime minister. He was known as the "Iron Man of India" after he persuaded feuding states to unite and become part of the Indian state after independence.

Tallest statue in the world takes shape in India

While campaigning in 2013 to become prime minister, Mr Modi said, "every Indian regrets that Sardar Patel did not become the first prime minister".
In recent years, Mr Modi's ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has embraced Patel in an attempt to claim his legacy. While Congress party politicians say Patel was a member of their party, the BJP says the freedom fighter's legacy belongs to everybody.
Officials expect that the site, located some 200km (125 miles) from Gujarat's main city, Ahmedabad, will attract about 2.5 million annual visitors and will help boost local economy.
Visitors can go up to the viewing gallery, which is located near the chest of the statue at a height of 153m.
But locals, including farmers, are sceptical.
"Instead of spending money on a giant statue, the government should have used it for farmers in the district," Vijendra Tadvi, a farmer who also worked as a driver on the statue's construction site, told BBC Gujarati's Roxy Gagdekar.

Thousands of Google staff around the world are walking out in protest of recent revelations of sexual harassment at the company.
Google offices globally were walking out at 11:10am in their local time. Staff at both Google's London office and Dublin are shown on the protest Twitter account.
In an emailed statement a representative said: "As Google workers, we were disgusted by the details of the recent New York Times article, which provided the latest example of a culture of complicity, dismissiveness, and support for perpetrators in the face of sexual harassment, misconduct, and abuse of power.
It continued "Sadly, this is part of a longstanding pattern, one further amplified by systemic racism. We know this culture well. For every story in the New York Times, there are thousands more, at every level of the company. Most have not been told".
Using the #GoogleWalkout hashtag on social media the protesters have several issues they want the tech firm to address.
They want an end to the forced arbitration victims of harassment and discrimination must endure. Currently this prevents staff from suing the firm if they have suffered harassment at work.
Demands also include an end to pay inequality and a public report detailing sexual harassment at the company. Staff are also requesting a global process for reporting abuses with anonymity.
Finally they've requested that the Chief Diversity Officer report directly to Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
Several high-profile Google employees have been accused of sexual harassment including Android creator Andy Rubin who was given a substantial severance package of $90 million in 2014.

Four migrants from Senegal, Gambia and Nigeria have been arrested by police investigating the rape and killing of a girl whose death has been seized upon by the populist right.

The body of Desirée Mariottini, 16, was found in a derelict building in an area of Rome known for drug trafficking. She had been drugged and gang raped. Right-wing Interior Minister Matteo Salvini hailed the arrests, condemning those behind the murder as "worms". It would not go unpunished, he said.

Salvini, who leads the anti-immigration League party, has spearheaded measures aimed at scrapping protection for migrants not given refugee status, as well as stopping NGO ships carrying rescued migrants from landing in Italy.
Investigators believe the victim fell unconscious for several hours last week after being given a cocktail of drugs by several people, and died of an overdose. She was sexually abused before she died.

The police initially arrested two Senegalese men, Mamadou Gara (26), Brian Minteh (43) and Chima Alinno (46) from Nigeria ,all described as undocumented migrants, then a Gambian without legal documents, was arrested today.
Salvini pledged that the suspects would see "hard prison and then home!"
The four men are being held on charges of murder, sexual violence and distributing drugs. Mariottini had been drugged, gang raped and then left to die. As revealed by the autopsy, Mariottini‘s death was not be linked to an overdose, but to an asphyxiation cause. She, with all probability, died suffocating before being sexually assaulted by more than one person.

The Nigerian Army has uncovered a shallow grave where suspected hoodlums had initially buried the corpse of its former Chief of Administration, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Idris Alkali (retd).

The shallow grave, the Army said, was in ‘No Man’s Land,’ and had been identified by four different suspects at different times of arrest. The General Officer Commanding 3 Armoured Division in Rukuba Barracks, Maj. Gen. Benson Akinroluyo, at a press conference, claimed that the suspects took troops on the search-and-rescue operation to the spot where the corpse of the missing officer was allegedly exhumed and reburied in a yet-to-be-identified place.
According to him, perpetrators of the act shared the belongings of the missing officer after he was abducted. Alkali, who was said to have disappeared in questionable circumstances, was said to have retired a few weeks before he was declared missing on Monday, September 3, 2018, a day after gunmen swooped on Dura-Du District and killed about 13 persons.

The specialist is currently in our custody. Again, this is an attempt to cover up the heinous crime committed by the community. There exist other evidence and indicators that pointed to the fact that those who were involved in the killing of the senior officer are being supported and backed by community leaders within the Dura-Du District. In recent times, they have been staging press conferences and writing petitions in order to smear the image of the Division in particular and the Nigerian Army in general. This Division will not yield to the antics or blackmail by those who have committed this dastardly crime. Therefore, the following people at large have been declared wanted by the relevant authority based on their degree of culpability in the killing of the senior officer:
a. Da Chuwang Samuel ( aka MORINHO). He is 28 years old and a panel beater by profession. He hails from Doi Du village area of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. He was believed to be the master mind in the assault and killing of Major General Idris Alkali.
b. Mr Nyam Samuel (aka SOFT TOUCH). He is 25 years old and a panel beater by profession as well as younger brother of “Morinho”. He was believed to have been involved in the assault and killing of the senior officer.
c. Mr Pam Gyang Dung ( aka BOSS). He hails from Latya 2 Doi Du Village in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. His profession is farming and mining. He is also the Mai Anguwa of Latya 2. “Boss” who is 53 years old is a friend to “Morinho”. He was also believed to be involved in the killing of Major General Idris Alkali.
d. Mr Mathew Wrang (aka AMESCO). He is 27 years old. In addition, one locally made pistol was recovered from his house during cordon and search operation.
e. Mr Moses Gyang (aka BOSS). He is Pam Gyang Dung, aka “Boss” son. He is 25 years old.
f. Mr Timothy Chuan. He is 26 years old. He is a tipper driver and also a sand vendor by profession. He was identified to have driven the senior officer’s car to Dura village and subsequently pushed it into the abandoned mining pit filled with water.
g. Da Yakubu Rap. He is 52 years old and the district head of Dura village. He co - chaired the meeting held to relocate the corpse of the senior officer from a shallow grave to elsewhere immediately his car was found in the abandoned mining pit filled with water.
h. Mr Chuwang Istifanus Pwajok Stephen (aka TIFA). He is 46 years old and a surveyor/business man by profession. He participated in the meeting held to relocate the corpse of the senior officer from a shallow grave to elsewhere after his car was found in the abandoned mining pit filled with water.
Please note that 4 different sources not known to each other at various times took us to the opened shallow grave where the senior officer was earlier buried but subsequently removed. Furthermore, sniffer dogs that have been cultured with the personal effects of the senior officer led us to the same opened shallow grave. That was the only grave we were led to by different people and sniffer dogs. We did not go to any other grave as the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence. Like I always say, the cordon and search operation is intelligence driven and that is why the operation has been conducted in line with international best practices and respect for human rights. This further explains why the Division did not clamp down on the entire community. Only the perpetrators are being targeted.

Suspected kidnap kingpin Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans says his confessional statement after his arrest last year (2017), was given under duress.
At the resumed hearing of his case on Friday, he told an Ikeja High Court, presided over by Justice Hakeem Oshodi that he was tortured before writing the statement.
He also gave details of how members of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), allegedly tortured and killed several others in his presence.
He claimed that the security agents killed the victims by suffocating them with plastic bags and threatened to do same to him if he failed to cooperate with them.
According to him, after witnessing the execution, some sheets of paper were brought for him to sign by the police.
“After a few minutes they brought 25 sheets of paper for me and I signed them.
“Some things were written on some of the sheets of paper while some were blank, that was how I was forced to sign the confessional statements,” he said.
Evans is standing trial alongside five other persons, Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi, Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba, on two counts bordering on conspiracy and kidnapping.
The case was, however, adjourned till November 23.

According to the Henley Passport Index, compiled by global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & PartnersCitizens, Japan now has the most powerful passport on the planet.
Having gained visa-free access to Myanmar earlier this month, Japanese citizens can now enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to a whopping 190 destinations around the world -- knocking Singapore, with 189 destinations, into second place.
Germany, which began 2018 in the top spot, is now in third place with 188 destinations, tied with France and South Korea.
Uzbekistan lifted visa requirements for French nationals on October 5, having already granted visa-free access to Japanese and Singaporean citizens in early February.
South Korea gained visa-free access to Myanmar on October 1, while Paraguay removed visa requirements for Singaporean passport holders in 2017.
Movers and shakers
The United States and the UK, both with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 186 destinations, are in fifth place. With neither having gained entry to any new jurisdictions this year, it seems unlikely that either will soon reclaim the No.1 spot they held in 2015.
Russia has fallen to 47th position, despite having received a boost in September when Taiwan announced a visa-waiver for Russian nationals.
The United Arab Emirates is the decade's biggest success story when it comes to travel freedom. It's risen from 62nd place in 2006 to now being No. 21 in the rankings.
It's also recently signed a visa-waiver agreement with Russia, due to come into effect in the coming months.
China recently obtained access to St. Lucia and Myanmar and is now in 71st place, having climbed 14 places since the start of 2017.

Libya’s national team arrived in Uyo Friday evening, ahead of Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Super Eagles, but refused to stay at the hotel reserved for them by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The Libyans arrived with a 50-man delegation, but declined the hotel Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, which was reserved for them.

Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in 2019.
He stated this while addressing journalists after a 'Thank You Visit' by Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate and former Vice-President at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Sunday evening.

According to Wike, Nigerians have a duty to form a united front to "sack" the APC-led Federal Government.
He said although different party leaders supported different aspirants to secure the PDP presidential ticket, with Atiku's emergence as the party's presidential candidate, "all hands must be on deck for the good of the country".

He said: "We have no party that will salvage the country other than the PDP. A candidate has emerged and we owe it a duty to see that the party takes over from the most inefficient and ineffective party in control of the FG.

"We are one family. You may support aspirant A or B, but once a candidate emerges, you owe it a duty to make sure your party returns to power. We are doing everything we can to ensure that we don't give APC any gap. They have failed Nigerians and we will take over in 2019."
He said the successful hosting of the national convention in Port Harcourt proves that Port Harcourt is a peaceful location for national events.

"I am happy that the convention was successful and it went on without hitches," he said.
In his remarks, Atiku called on Nigerians to support the PDP.
Noting that "the entire country needs a new government", he said the country has gone through challenges and needs to chart a new direction in the interest of the people.
Atiku said it is time for the people of Rivers State to consolidate their support for the PDP in the state.

He said: "I came to personally congratulate the governor, people and government of Rivers State and also thank him for hosting a most successful convention."
Atiku was accompanied on the visit by former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, Senator Sam Anyanwu, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Austin Opara and Edo State PDP Chairman Dan Orbih.

Groups from various Local Government Areas of Niger State on Monday protested against the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primary which took place at the weekend.
The groups of people who marched to the party’s secretariat in the state demanded the cancellation of results of the election which held across the 25 LGAs.

Some of the aspirants who briefed journalists alleged that no election was conducted and that the results announced were not a reflection of the people’s will.

Adams Oshiomhole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, has said that with the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2019 election, it is set to especially, engage the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) on issue-based campaign.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oshiomhole stated this in his address of welcome at the party’s National Presidential Convention, which ended in the early hours of Sunday.
President Buhari pulled a total of 14,842,072 votes at the party’s recent presidential primaries held across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as announced by Dr Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti State Governor-elect.

Fayemi, who was the Chairman,APC Presidential Primary Committee, later asked the no fewer than. 7,00 delegates from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to affirm the president’s candidacy through a yes vote, and they did affirm the candidacy.
Aside the statuary delegates, the delegates who were drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), were made up of three from each Local Government Area.
They were elected at the party’s State Congresses held earlier in the year.
Oshiomhole maintained that with President Buhari as the party’s presidential candidate, it was now ready for the 2019 election, adding that the president had given a good account of himself as a leader who led by example.

He added that unlike some political parties in the past, the APC decided to elect President Buhari as its presidential candidate for the 2019 presidential election using the direct primary mode to give all party members a say.

Oshiomhole said, “unlike the other party which printed only one presidential form and came up with 2 million signatures from unverified individuals in 2015 , the APC chose a more democratic process, using the direct primary method which gave all registered party members a true sense of participation”.

He said that the APC would scrutinise the records of whoever the opposition party, especially the PDP, brought up as its presidential candidate for the 2019 election.
This, he said, would be done with a view to bringing their past deeds to the public to enable them to make good choice.
“The other party is choosing its candidate in Port-Harcourt, we will look at the records of the opponent, we will look at his pedigree, we will challenge them on their track records,” he said.
The national chairman, however, dismissed claims by members of the opposition PDP that the Federal Government was being selective in its anti-graft war.
He also said that the complaints by opposition figures that the President Buhari-led administration was being heavy-handed should be ignored.
According to him,the present government was being too mild compared to past administration which he said always harassed and intimidated those in the opposition, saying that he was a victim of such harassment.

“Mr President, sometimes I feel you are too mild. I was under threat of impeachment, I had to remove the roof of my State House of Assembly in order to survive.
“One of your predecessors used seven people to remove a sitting Governor. I am, however, not in anyway suggesting that you do the same,” Oshiomhole said.

Cristiano Ronaldo rape accuser 'considered suicide' after alleged sexual assault in footballer's hotel room
A woman who accuses Cristiano Ronaldo of raping her said she considered suicide after the alleged attack, her lawyers have revealed.
Kathryn Mayorga is suing the former Manchester United forward over claims he raped her in the penthouse suite of a Las Vegas hotel in 2009.
The 34-year-old Nevada woman alleges the footballer then dispatched a team of "fixers" to obstruct the criminal investigation and trick her into keeping quiet for $375,00 (£268,000).
Ronaldo, 33, issued a firm denial of the sexual assault allegations on Wednesday.

The Juventus star insists he has a "clear conscious" (sic) on the matter and that he will now "await with tranquility" for the investigation to unfold.
"I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me," Ronaldo said. "Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in.
"Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense.
"My clear conscious will thereby allow me to await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations."

The lawsuit says Ms Mayorga asked police last month to reopen the criminal case.

Her lawyers held a press conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday evening, where they revealed a psychiatric evaluation concluded she was psychologically unfit to enter into a non-disclosure agreement and settlement with Ronaldo's lawyers.

A paper statement handed out to reporters in the room stated that, when she instructed lawyers, Ms Mayorga "appeared to be emotionally fragile and frightened".
It continued: "She explained that since the 2009 sexual assault she had experienced depression, intrusive thoughts, considered suicide, abused alcohol, had difficulty maintaining personal relationships and employment."
They added that her emotional distress, post-traumatic stress disorder and depression was a direct result of the alleged assault.

The sportman has 20 days from the filing of the lawsuit to respond, her lawyers said.
Ms Mayorga has left Las Vegas to escape the attention on her case, adding the assault has caused her severe mental and emotional damage. She was not at the news conference.
"She has decided not to make herself available to the media and stay out of the public because of her emotional state," attorney Leslie Stovall told the news conference. "It is not pleasant for her."
Her lawyers said they are considering whether to release documents related to the case including police reports, medical records, and an out-of-court settlement that included a non-disclosure agreement about the incident.
Lawyers for Ronaldo, one of the world's best-known athletes, on Friday threatened to sue German magazine Der Spiegel for publishing "blatantly illegal" accusations by Ms Mayorga.

Der Spiegel's deputy editor-in-chief, Alfred Weinzierl, told Reuters on Sunday that the magazine had worked professionally, confronted and laid out the evidence and stood by its story, which it said was allowed under Germany's press law.
Ronaldo has been named player of the year five times and transferred to Juventus from Real Madrid this summer for 100 million euros ($116 million).
The striker missed Juventus' Champions League win over Young Boys on Tuesday through suspension, but will return this weekend in Serie A vs Udinese.

A baby boy who was born without a face has defied all the odds to reach his first birthday.
Matthew Gillado suffers with a condition known as acrania - a rare facial deformity that occurs inside the fetus.
Doctors told his 22-year-old mum Isabela Gillado her baby was unlikely to survive past two weeks during her first ultasound in July last year.
But after a long fight and contrary to the prognosis, Matthew is celebrating his first birthday on October 3.
The rare congenital disorder means the flat bones in the cranial vault within the skull are either completely or partially absent.
Raven said: "We wanted to feel the physical presence of our baby, hug and kiss him. We named him Matthew as it means 'a gift from God.'"
During the first month of Isabella’s pregnancy, she had a fever and took bioflu, an over-the-counter capsule containing phenylephrine HCI, chlorphenamine maleate and paracetamol, for one week.
They believe this may have had some impact on the baby’s facial deformation.
Matthew was born via cesarean section in a hospital in Santiago town in northern Philippines.
He said: "When I first saw our baby, I trembled, felt weak and almost collapsed inside the delivery room. He was almost faceless."
The next day, despite his condition, baby Matthew was discharged while Isabela was left at the intensive care unit for two weeks.
Isabela continues to feed him drops of milk and vitamins for him to stay healthy and he is now celebrating his first birthday on October 3.
Meanwhile Raven is working at a clothes factory in Balintawak, Quezon City earning $4 per day, around £$120 (£92) per month, which is barely enough for the family to survive.
Despite the family’s below minimum wage income, support from relatives and the public help them afford daily basic needs for Matthew's survival.
Last May Raven, Isabela and Matthew travelled 224 miles from Santiago City to Philippine General Hospital in Manila for almost three weeks and underwent different clinical and laboratory procedures.
he hospital assessed that reconstructing baby Matthew’s face would be risky for him, as his fragile 11 pounds body could not withstand major surgeries.
But Isabela is not losing her faith, and said: "He is fighting for his life and we should also strive to provide his daily needs and always hope for a better future for our first born.
"We will not let go. We’re all fighting and looking forward that someday through God’s grace and advancement in medical science, I can see the handsome face of Matthew, God’s gift to us."

One of the world's most sought-after whiskies has been auctioned for a record breaking amount.A 60-year-old bottle of The Macallan Valerio Adami 1926 was sold for £848,750 pounds on Wednesday.
According to the auctioneer Bonhams, based in Edinburgh, Scotland, the buyer was a private collector from Asia who bid by phone.
The firm also sold one of 12 other bottles with a label by the Italian artist Adami in May this year for £814,091.

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) have embarked on a peaceful march to protest the killing of Ali Zakari, a 300 level Chemistry student, who was alleged to have been shot by the Nigerian Army in Potiskum, Yobe State, during the Ashura procession.

Chanting anti-government songs, the protesters came out en masse, displaying placards as they thronged the office of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to make a formal complaint.
Members of the sect carried pictures of the deceased and called for thorough investigation into the killing of the student, who is said to be an undergraduate of a college of education affiliated with the University of Maiduguri.

Abdullahi Muhammadu Musa, leader of the group, accused the Army attached to the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Potiskum of unleashing terror on their members during the Ashura procession.
He said that Zakari was standing by the roadside to catch a glimpse of the peaceful procession, but was shot by one of the officers and left in a pool of his own blood, before he was rushed to the hospital.

“On Friday, 21st September, 2018, the Nigerian Army attached to the Joint Task Force in Potiskum attacked the Ashura programme, a religious gathering to commemorate Imam Hussainin Ali (AS), the grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammadu. During the attack, a passer-by who was watching the procession was killed and three other disciples of Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky were seriously injured by gunshots from the army,” Musa stated.

He explained further that Zakari later died on October 1 in the hospital where he was receiving treatment as a result of the injuries he sustained.
The protesters asked the human rights commission to conduct an independent investigation into the matter and bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice.
The group also charged Nigerians to unite to stop the killings going on in Jos, Plateau State.

Lambert Oparah, the Director of Corporate Affairs and External Linkage, who received a protest letter on behalf of the commission, said the commission would do everything possible within its mandate to conduct investigation into the complaints made by the group.
"The commission will do everything within its mandate to ensure that the complaints you laid here are investigated thoroughly. First, we have started this process long time ago and we will continue to do that until we ensure that justice is assured," he said.

“The case of Ali Zakari is regrettable. Secondly, the issue happening in Jos; of course every Nigerian is concerned. Our office is investigating them and once they turn in their report from our zonal office in Jos, we would make them available to the appropriate authority for immediate action."
