In the same year of establishing the club, it was a big surprise that they got to the finals. The 14 foundation members of Rangers are; Godwin Achebe, (Captain), Cyril Okosieme, John Nwosu, Emmanuel Ojirika, Sam Nwachukwu, Chukwuma Igweonwu, Dominic Nwobodo, Sam Okoh, Emeka Okonkwo, Patrick Isiah, Raymond Pharr, Shedrack Ajaere, Ernest Ufele and Luke Okpala. From the year 1974-84 they participated in various national tournaments such as the Nigerian National League which they won 6 times within the time frame. They have also made a name in Africa, as they emerged among the finals in 1975, in the Africa Cup of Championships.

Throughout the subsequent years, Rangers International FC has won the Nigeria Professional Football League 7 times and has records of outstanding performances in other leagues and tournaments. It is also the second-most successful team in the Nigeria Premier League, and since its establishment qualifies among the best soccer teams in the world. PoliticsJubilation As Enugu Workers Thank Ugwuanyi On Payment Of New Minimum Wage by chuka85(op): 8:14pm On Feb 25, 2020
There was jubilation in Enugu State, Tuesday, as civil servants marched through the streets of Enugu to the Government House, to thank Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for being the first governor of the state, since the inception of democracy in 1999, to pay them the minimum wage without rancour.

The jubilant workers, who were led by the leadership of the Organized Labour in the state, comprising the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Virginus Nwobodo, his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Comrade Benneth Asogwa and Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, Comrade Igbokwe Chukwuma Igbokwe, among others, marched from the State Secretariat in GRA, through Garden Avenue, Ogui road and Bisala down to the Government House at Independence Layout. It was such an emotional event as the workers sang solidarity songs while also thanking Gov. Ugwuanyi for paying them the agreed new minimum wage, during the weekend.

They displayed banners and placards with inscriptions such as: “Enugu State workers say Thank You His Excellency for the new minimum wage”, “Gburus, Enugu workers say Thank You for regular payment of salaries”, “Gburus, thank you for giving us new minimum wage without stress”, “Thank you for regular payment of monthly pensions”, “Gburus, you are a pacesetter”, Gburus is our man”.

Speaking at the Government House, Enugu, the State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Nwobodo, told Gov. Ugwuanyi that “Enugu workers are very happy and delighted that this is the first time since the inception of democracy in 1999 that a governor in Enugu State paid us a new minimum wage without any crisis, stress or industrial action”.

Comrade Nwobodo disclosed that the workers were surprised and elated to receive their salary alerts during the weekend reflecting the new minimum wage in line with the agreed consequential adjustment chart.

“Today is a special day in the history of Enugu State”, the labour leader noted “because there is no worker in Enugu State that did not benefit from Ugwuanyi’s alert, and that is why we are singing now”.

In his speech, the State Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria, Comrade Asogwa, narrated Gov. Ugwuanyi’s numerous interventions towards the welfare of the state workers, such as the 100 units of one-bedroom flats for civil servants between grade levels 01-10, regular payment of salaries and pensions and the payment of 13th month salary.

“It’s instructive that Gov. Ugwuanyi was recording such feats at a time when many states could not pay their workers’ salaries”, says Asogwa. According to the union leader, the process through which the winners of the houses emerged was “the greatest transparency we have ever seen in the history of leadership”.

The TUC chairman maintained that the state workers marched to the Government House to let the world know that “it is because you have been able to turn the history positively as far as minimum wage is concerned in Enugu State”.

According to him, “we want to also tell them that what we are doing today is significant because in the past, whenever minimum wage was being expected, it was always negative. Then, we would mourn from, maybe, New Haven to our Secretariat crying and shouting. Then, you would see all Enugu in pains. But today, we have come to Government House, smiling”.

Comrade Asogwa, who maintained that this was the first time the workers had a salary chart that was a product of collective bargaining, told Gov. Ugwuanyi that “the greatest political party you have identified with is the public service and you are a full registered member and we can tell you that you have our mandate, anytime.”

His words: “Your Excellency, I want to summarize by saying that history will never forget your regime. We stand here to say that in Enugu State, we have worked for years without salary chart until somebody called Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi a.k.a Gburugburu came and the dignity of workers was restored. We stand here today to say, Your Excellency, we are very grateful.”

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, Comrade Igbokwe, endorsed the expressions made by his fellow labour leaders, adding that “what is happening here today is the first in this country as far as the implementation of minimum wage is concerned”.

Comrade Igbokwe, who joined other labour leaders and the State Head of Service, Mr. Chidi Ezema in presenting a Thank You card to the governor on behalf of the state workers, revealed that “the joy in the hearts of the workers today is overwhelming”.

Responding, Gov. Ugwuanyi thanked the state workers for their support, solidarity and appreciation in respect of the implementation of the new minimum wage in the state. The governor stated that the mandate of his administration is to serve the people with the fear of God, and reiterated his firm belief that “a worker deserves his wage”. He also appreciated the labour unions for the discipline and maturity they displayed in their engagement during the processes that led to the implementation of the new minimum wage.

“You will recall that in my inaugural address, I said that we will deploy government services to create fair and equal opportunity for every willing citizen to make a living and create wealth, educate our children, and enjoy life in a peaceful and secure environment. We remain committed to this.”

SportsPremier League Clubs Have Voted To Return To A Longer Summer Transfer Window by chuka85(op): 9:53pm On Feb 06, 2020
For the past two seasons, the window in England has closed the day before the new season has begun, at the beginning of August.

However, at a shareholders’ meeting on Thursday, it was decided by clubs to move the closing date back into line with deadlines across Europe.

The closing date this year will now be 5pm on Tuesday, September 1 – with the Monday being a Bank Holiday.

A Premier League statement read: “At a shareholders’ meeting today, Premier League clubs voted to adopt a change to the summer transfer window closing date for season 2020/21.

“This will move the closing date back to the traditional point at the end of August/early September.

“The 2020 closing date will therefore be 17:00 BST on 1 September (31 August 2020 being a UK Bank Holiday).

“Clubs agreed after discussing the topic at length at previous shareholders’ meetings.”

The Premier League have also announced the 2020/21 season will start on Saturday, August 8.

Players who reach the latter stages of Euro 2020 will therefore have only a short break before returning to club action.

The tournament, held across Europe this summer, will run from June 12 to July 12.

The decision to move the transfer window back will please many top-flight managers, including Jurgen Klopp.

The Liverpool manager had called for the windpow in England to realign with the rest of Europe’s top divisions.

“I don’t care when it closes, I only think it must close at the same time,” Klopp said in August.

“When they spoke about ‘Let’s finish it before the season starts then everyone knows their squad’ – that’s a good idea. But then the rest didn’t do it and that makes no sense.

“Can somebody explain what is the benefit for the Premier League? We don’t really have a problem but for other teams, their key players are still on the market and everything can happen.”

BusinessOwning More Than Three SIM Cards To Be Barred In Nigeria- NCC by chuka85(op):
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has been directed to review SIM card registration and usage by the Federal Government, in a bid to bar Nigerians from owning more than three mobile telephone lines.

It is expected that telecommunication companies will block unregistered SIMs from functioning on their networks in line with the directive which came in the wake of increased killings and kidnapping for ransom and general insecurity.

The NCC was also directed to ensure that the National Identity Number (NIN) becomes a prerequisite for Nigerians registering new SIM cards, while for foreigners use their passports and visas. Already registered SIM cards are to be updated with the NIN before December 1, 2020.

The statement released by Dr. Femi Adeluyi, the technical adviser of the Communications and Digital Economy Minister Isa Ibrahim Pantami, reads;

“The revision of the policy is based on the feedback received from the security agencies, following the successful revalidation of improperly registered SIM cards in September 2019 and the blocking of those that failed to revalidate their SIMs.

“Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to revise the Policy on SIM Card registration and usage.

“This is in line with the Powers of the minister as stated in Section 25(1) of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003- “the Minister shall, in writing, from time to time notify the Commission or and express his views on the general policy direction of the Federal Government in respect of the communications sector.

“The updated policy is expected to include the following provisions, amongst others:

Ensure that the National Identity Number (NIN) becomes a prerequisite for Nigerians registering new SIM cards (while for foreigners, their passports and visas should be used), while already registered SIM cards are to be updated with National Identity Number (NIN) before 1st December, 2020;
Ensure that only fully-accredited agents support the SIM card registration process without pre-registering SIM cards themselves, while the eventual registration should be done by the operators;
There should be a maximum number of SIM cards that can be tied to a single individual, possibly a maximum of three;
Ensure that no unregistered SIMs are ever allowed on mobile networks;
Ensure that subscribers can easily check the number of SIM cards registered to their name, along with the associated phone numbers and networks;
Ensure that mobile network operators fortify their networks against cyberattacks and ensure that they adhere to the provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR); and
Ensure that SIM cards that have been used to perpetrate crimes are permanently deactivated.

“The NCC is to provide the minister with progress reports on the implementation of the revised policy.”

Commenting on the directive, telecommunication operators said the new measures may not stop criminal activities in the country. The President of the Association of Telecoms Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Olusola Teniola said the next move by criminals will be to get as many NINs they need to register SIM cards for their nefarious activities.

Teniola listed post-code system and digital address system as measures that worked in other climes including the United Kingdom (UK) and Ghana, as he urged the Minister to take the issue of digital address system seriously.

PoliticsBauchi Uncovers 41,000 “ghost Workers” Out Of 101,000 Civil Servants by chuka85(op): 7:49am On Oct 28, 2019
The Bauchi State Government has uncovered over 41,000 ghost workers on its payroll, 5 months after Governor Bala Mohammed assumed office.

Governor Bala who disclosed this while hosting members of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister’s Press Corps on Saturday October 26, said out of the 101,000 civil servants employed by the state, thousands are receiving salaries without the compulsory Bank Verification Number (BVN).

He stated that a lot compromise took place in the last administration, but he will not succumb to such.

“Just last week, we discovered that some of our civil servants are ghost workers. The Federal Government has said that everybody must have a BVN.

“But 41, 000 out of 101, 000 civil servants in Bauchi State do not have BVN and they have been collecting salaries under the last administration. A lot of compromise happened.

“Those who have BVN have been getting alerts, but the rest of the civil servants must be investigated. It is good to note that the government has not employed any graduate in the last four years. Yet our salaries are increasing. And some mischievous people are complaining about my discoveries.

“Some of the ghost workers we suspect are conniving with our education secretaries in the local governments and health directors. As a civil servant, I am just suspending them to find out what happened. And if I find out that they are not compromising, I will be just and equitable to them. If otherwise, the civil service rules will apply to them, so that nobody will do it again” Bala said.

BusinessNsukka To Have 18 Hours Uninterrupted Electricity Supply by chuka85(op): 6:58pm On Oct 24, 2019
Nsukka To Have 18 Hours Uninterrupted Electricity Supply
ByTechnologiesPublished on October 24, 2019
With the Enugu Electricity Distribution PLC (EEDC) having completed the realignment of its Nsukka Township 11KV Feeder, in Nsukka, Enugu State, both commercial and residential customers within the affected area can now boast of up to eighteen hours of electricity supply.
These customers, majority of whom are commercial banks such as Zenith Bank, First Bank, GTB, Access Bank, as well as hoteliers, now enjoy reliable and steady supply during their active time (that is between 6am and 5pm), thereby reducing tremendously their expenses on diesel and generator maintenance.
This development was made known to newsmen through a statement issued on Wednesday by the Head of Communications, EEDC, Mr. Emeka Ezeh.
According to Ezeh, the recent effort is coming against the backdrop of EEDC’s commitment towards improving the socio-economic state of the South East region.
It will be recalled that late last year, EEDC also invested in its network in Nsukka, to improve the quality of service to customers by constructing additional feeders. These include: the UNN 33KV, Orba 33KV and Wilson 11KV feeders. This significantly improved power supply to customers in the area, resulting to the deloading of Eha Amufu 33KV line.
Just few months ago, EEDC equally completed and commissioned major projects in Owerri, Imo State and Abakaliki, Ebonyi State respectively. These include: a dedicated 33KV line for one of the company’s industrial customer, Alex Aluminium Company; the Oguta 33KV double circuit line and the Azuiyiokwu II,11KV feeder in Abakaliki.
Some other network enhancement projects executed by EEDC to improve supply to customers include: the construction of 1 x 7.5MVA Injection Substation at ABS, Awka; the upgrading of the 2 x 7.5MVA Injection Substation at Agu-Awka to a 1 x 15MVA and 1 x 7.5MVA (increasing the capacity from 15MVA to 22.5MVA); the construction of 1 x 7.5 MVA Nike Lake Injection Substation at Nike; the upgrading of Awka (Main) Injection Substation at Nibo from 1 x 7.5MVA to 1 x 15MVA and the upgrading of Ebeano Tunnel Injection Substation at Enugu from 1 x 7.5MVA to 1 x 15MVA.
While appealing to customers to reciprocate this investment by paying their electricity bills and desisting from acts such as energy theft, meter bypass, and vandalism, which impacts negatively on the company’s operations, Ezeh also encouraged those customers that are unmetered to embrace the ongoing Meter Asset Provider (MAP) metering scheme to get their properties metered.
MAP metering scheme which kicked off sometime in June is an initiative of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), designed to enable unmeterd customers procure meter from approved third party meter providers and have their meter installed within ten (10) working days of paying for it.
To get started, interested customers are to log on to EEDC website (www.enugudisco.com), click on the “MAP Meter Request” button, fill the online form, upload their identity card and thereafter submit. Subsequently, the pre-survey team will visit the property to be metered to ascertain that everything is alright, after which a Demand Note will be issued to the customer for payment of the approved meter.
The meters cost N38,841.00 (Thirty Eight Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fourty One Naira) for a Single-Phase, while a Three-Phase meter goes for N70.409.00 (Seventy Thousand, Four Hundred and Nine Naira). “These costs are inclusive of VAT and payment must be paid at the bank, and not to any individual or group”, Ezeh emphasized.
EEDC encouraged customers to safeguard all electricity installations serving them, while reassuring them of its commitment towards reliable and improved service delivery.

A mack truck with registration number, Rivers BNY 137 XA, heading towards Calabar, lost control and ran into a fuel station, killing three people and injuring others.

The accident occurred at about 7:10 am Wednesday along Urua Ekpa junction Uyo.

The driver of the truck who apparently ‘disappeared’ from the scene immediately after the accident was nowhere to be found as at the time of this report.

An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said the truck driver was trying to avoid a commercial tricycle (Keke) rider who recklessly crossed the road”.

The inability of the driver of the heavy-duty vehicle to effectively apply its breaks on sighting the sudden crossing of the Keke may have caused him to lose control as he was left with the only option of veering into the fuel station which had a sizable crowd of commuters standing by the fringes to catch buses to their various destinations.

The victims as at the time of this report were yet to be identified.

PoliticsPresidency Backs Off as Governors Join Plot To Remove Oshiomole As APC Chairman by chuka85(op): 6:57am On Oct 14, 2019
A report by Daily Sun indicates that the days of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are numbered. A high party official quoted in the report stated that a fresh plot against Oshiomhole, might see him lose his job as early as January 2020. The unnamed party source disclosed that many APC governors have joined the ‘Oshiomhole must go’ bandwagon, but the APC chairman still has his job due to the intervention of the presidency. “The presidency had intervened, pleading with every aggrieved person against Oshiomhole to temporarily pipe low and sheathe their swords until after the presidential election appeal tribunal rules on the outcome of the 2019 presidential election,” the source said. He continued: “The presidency had said that it will not be good for the party to be divided ahead of the ruling because it will not only certainly send a negative signal but also portray the party in a light capable of affecting the outcome of the judgement.” He noted that now that the tribunal has ruled, the plot to remove Oshiomhol has recommenced. “There is overwhelming evidence to nail and remove him, and I can confirm to you that Oshiomhole cannot last as the national chairman of APC beyond January next year, that is if he survives the plot by December this year. “We have had enough and he must leave before he kills the party. If he fails to take the diplomatic option of resigning honourably, be sure he will be booted out on or before the deadline I gave you,” the source said. Responding to the report, Simon Ebegbulem, spokesman to Oshiomhole, dismissed it as fake, saying that nothing of such would happen. “I don’t understand why people are always interested in fake stories about plots against the national chairman. “It is not today the speculation started and the rumour that intervention by the presidency saved him before the presidential election appeal tribunal ruling was part of wrong information they are feeding the media,” he stated. Meanwhile, seven months after suspending some of its prominent chieftains for alleged anti-party activities.

PoliticsBuhari’s Congratulatory Message To Ethiopian PM, A Contradiction-nnamdi Kanu by chuka85(op): 3:50pm On Oct 12, 2019
The congratulatory message by President Muhammadu Buhari to Ethiopian Prime Minister, Ahmed Abiy for winning the Nobel Peace Prize award is a contradiction to his stance against Referendum being demanded by Biafran agitators. IPOB Leader, Nnnamdi Kanu has said.

Buhari, had in the congratulatory messages posted on his Twitter page said the recognition of Abiy for his role in the ending of a 20-year conflict between his country and Eritrea is a good sign for peace processes within countries and across borders in Africa.

Muhammadu Buhari

✔ @MBuhari
· Oct 11, 2019

I congratulate Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who was today declared winner of the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize for his remarkable work to end the 20-year conflict between Ethiopia & Eritrea. This recognition is a good sign for peace processes within countries and across borders in Africa.

Muhammadu Buhari

✔ @MBuhari

I believe that the development of Africa is strongly tied to peaceful co-existence, and to deliberate efforts by governments and citizens to sustain harmony within and between countries. We must do more in collaboration and partnership for peace across the continent.

It is my hope and prayer that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s global recognition will spur more interest in issues of peace in Africa, and bring beneficial outcomes to the entire continent.

But the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu while replying to Buhari’s congratulatory message said Abiy played a key role in the #Referendum that split Eritrea from Ethiopia as against Buhari’s stance on Referendum.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu @MaziNnamdiKanu

Jubril-Buhari’s CONGRATULATIONS to Ethiopian PM (Ahmed) for winning the #NobelPeacePrize for “his work to end the conflict b/w Ethiopia & Eritrea” is a CONTRADICTION, because major reason for the Prize was Ahmed’s key ROLE in the #Referendum that SPLIT Eritrea from Ethiopia.

Soon after coming into power in April 2018, Abiy restored ties that had been frozen since a 1998-2000 border war with Eritrea. He also helped mediate a maritime territory dispute between Kenya and Somalia and has been a key part of efforts to bring together the leaders of Sudan and South Sudan for talks.

He also granting amnesty to thousands of political prisoners just as he discontinuing media censorship and dismissing several high-profile figures suspected to be guilty of corruption.

The management of Nigerian Breweries PLC in Enugu has through its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jordi Borrut Bel announced that the company was on the verge of completing plans of expanding its operational capacity in Enugu state through the introduction of a multi-billion naira business project.

The MD made this known at a courtesy visit to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state, as he led a delegation with him. He said that the project proposal was already before the board of the company for approval.

He commended the governor for providing an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the state, adding that the network of roads constructed by the administration within and around their host communities at 9th Mile Corner, and other sustained efforts had enhanced security of lives and property.

The managing director explained that the enabling business environment in the state and host communities as well as the governor’s commitment to peace and security had made it possible for the company’s planned expansion, which he expressed optimism would be approved by the board soon.

“I will like to express our gratitude for the work you have done in the network of roads around the brewery, specifically the roads leading to the Ama Brewery. I would also like to commend you for the enabling environment you have created in this state, especially the way you have been able to address the civil unrest by the communities around the brewery.

“In all, I will like to commend you for the peace and security which this state has enjoyed under your administration. I will like to say that this enabling environment you have created has, in turn, enabled our business to grow to the extent that we have been able to start the procedure for expansion of our brewery,” he said.

Responding, Governor Ugwuanyi described the business relations between the state government and the company as “mutually rewarding experience”.

The governor expressed delight at the proposed expansion, stating that it would generate more employment, create wealth and improve tax revenue in the state.

While assuring the MD of his administration’s unflinching support, the governor disclosed that the state government had done a lot to make Enugu State a destination of choice for credible investors.

He said that his administration through continuous “heavy investments” in our security architecture and peace initiatives, had demonstrated its untiring commitment in providing the enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the state.

He said, “Enugu State, under my watch, has transited from its 2014 World Bank Ease of Doing Business ranking as 27th out of 37 states (including FCT, Abuja), to an enviable ranking as the second state in the Ease of Starting Business and third state in Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria in the 2018 World Bank Ease of Doing Business rankings.”

“I assure you that Enugu State is ready and conducive for phase two capacity expansion project of Ama Brewery as envisaged. Your decision to further your investment in our state is a decision well made. We are, indeed, happy and ready to win with Nigerian Breweries.”
