With exception of the bilateral basal ganglia calcification which report points to be likely physiological, I think the Scan points to the possibility of bone of the eye and jaw damage. Radiographers and Neurologists in the house over to you. I pray God helps her out, get well soon
very wrong. The bilateral basal ganglia calcification is an incidental finding. Doesn't mean its physiological. Its abnormal but doesn't have anything to do with the assault. That's why it's an incidental finding. It was there before the assault. Fracture of the left orbital bone with herniation doesn't mean there is bone in the eye. There is usually fat surrounding the eye which rests on the socket bone of the eye. There is a crack in that socket bone and the fat is kind of falling through that crack. This is the best I can explain in layman's terms. The muscles controlling the movement of the eye are also herniating through the Fracture. If not handled well, she will have a form of strabismus, what we normally call half past 4 eye.

Emary:
I had a personal experience like this during my NYSC in the North. A woman was brought in labor to deliver her 9th baby. She and her husband were very poor. The man was a carpenter and she a petty trader (I think). The baby had hand prolapse meaning that, probably like this baby, the hand came out of the womb instead of the head first. This was Oct. 2005 and they could not afford N30000 for the CS she required. It was against the hospital policy (government) at the time to do free surgeries and despite my pleas, the head of the hospital at the time wouldn't budge. I couldn't at the time afford to pay because it was soon after the banking crisis and my money was mostly frozen. Even my monthly corpers and doctors salary at the time combined was not up to 30k. The woman laboured for 3days, the baby died in the womb and became infected. Subsequently, the mother developed a high fever and died. I have never seen a man cry so hard for anything before. It was just so heartbreaking and I honestly could not sleep for a full week after that.

The reason I am telling this story is because of the people rushing to judge the doctor for his 'quackery'. In medicine, we are taught that one mother's live is worth 20 unborn so the emphasis needs to be placed on saving her life first because of the other children she already has or might bear or even just care for in future. In a rural setting, if the baby was wrongly positioned and not moving, it might have been near impossible to hear a heartbeat. There are even cases of babies who have lost all heartbeat only to wake up several hours later in the morgue. Why not send for a scan, you say? Those are not readily available in rural setups and even if they are expensive to the common man and there may be a lengthy queue for the service which is time a woman in labor may not have.

Also, our people present late. They may even register for antenatal but for fear of the cost and stigma attached to a CS, they prefer to go to local midwives and religious homes where they will first exhaust all their money and the real quacks will complicate the situation before sending them to the hospital when it is too late. The reason these people seem successful is that without any intervention, 85% of deliveries will have on their own. It is only qualified people who can identify the 15% and try to prevent it.

Poverty might have had a part to play here too. Maybe they couldn't afford a CS. Do it on credit, you say? How many can you do without folding up your practice? It is common for people to come, beg the doctor to save life, promise to pay later then after the procedure, you are told there is no money. When the doctor decides to be merciful and let them go, a few days later, they will then throw a lavish naming ceremony as is customary.

The healthcare challenges in Nigeria are enormous but the few doctors who still practice here are really struggling to help with little or no infrastructure while the people don't help themselves. I cannot fault the doctor in this scenario at all because his action might actually be the only reason both mother and baby are still alive. It is sad the child lost an arm but it could have been much worse.
thumbs up dear. They will still insult you. But the truth is that they usually don't read lengthy comments
Car Talk › Re: Seized Goods: Customs To Start Online Auction ‘in A Matter Of Days’ by chukel(m): 11:22am On Apr 24, 2017
saintjoel:
Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Joseph Attah, says in a matter of days, the service will officially deploy electronic auction platform for Nigerians. Attah announced this on Sunday in Abuja.

He said that interested Nigerians who want to benefit from the auction should approach the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to acquire the Tax Identification Number (TIN).

“I told you earlier that the electronic auction platform is ready and undergoing a User Acceptability Test (UAT).

“In a matter of days, it is going to be officially deployed for Nigerians.

“Those who want to be part of this system should approach the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to acquire the tax Identification Number (TIN). That is what it takes, they should get that ready,”Attah said.

On bonded terminal license, Attah said that NCS was ready to license operators who secured a N50 million bank bond to operate a vehicle terminal.

He said that the Service was ready to begin issuance of licence, adding that there were already positive responses from the public.

“A lot of people have indicated interest and the process is ongoing.

“NCS is ready for the issuance of licenses to people who are interested.

“What it takes is for interested persons to acquire a big land, fence it and have Customs section within; a workstation with connectivity and computer system that can easily connect to the Customs server.

“Such person will also be required to enter into a bank bond of N50 million.

“He or she will now apply through the Customs Area Comptroller of the command that he wants to site the terminal to the Comptroller General,” he said.

Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali, rolled out the policy after banning the importation of vehicles through the land borders in January.

On the recent removal of HND dichotomy in Customs, Attah said that the reaction had been positive and morale lifting across the commands.

Attah said that with the singular decision, officers and men are saying that the Ali had written his name in gold because he restored dignity, integrity and pride of the affected officers.

“In my own view, reducing the rank of an HND holder because he does not have a B.Sc was not a perfect decision.

“The CGC, in keeping with his reform agenda, has done what needed to have been done many years back.

“He has restored laughter and happiness and by the grace of God, we are expecting higher productivity,” Attah said.

**** REGISTER IMMEDIATELY THE AUCTION WEBSITE IS ONLINE TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE OR TWO IF YOU'VE INTEREST IN THE PROCESS.

The bottom line is that Nigerian doctors re incompetent compared to there counter-parts in India, China, UK, USA e.t.c. I know of many life's that could have been saves if not for negligence and incompetence. I know of wrong prescriptions that have almost claimed life and also claimed life.

Even our leaders and wealthy ones re quite aware of the incompetence.

A common Tekno had malaria and was flown to the US. A Gani Fawehinmi was wrongly diagnosed in Nigeria, A Dagin died due to height of incompetence. A of pain they have caused me personally so it's not hearsay
you should have been dead by now if what you allude is true. You guys just wake up and type shit. I hope u don't ever go to any Nigerian hospital. The same way you have condemned Nigerian health professionals as incompetent, even the ones who have seen to your well being, may you continue meeting the incompetent ones when you are challenged health wise. I'm also sure u were given birth to in Nigeria and a Nigerian doctor or midwife took the delivery and not a doctor from outside the country. I'm also sure u are not disabled. Do you know how many babies are born in this country daily? Do you routinely hear of this kind of mishap? What we should do is to rid our society of quacks. The so called doctor may not be a certified and qualified doctor esp in this generation that calls every male that works within a hospital premises doctor. Lab attendants, male nurses, male cleaners even male community health workers prefer to go by the title doctor and as such referred to as one. Normally when a fetus is suspected to be dead in utero, Obstetric ultrasound scan must be done with particular emphasis on fetal biophysical parameters and cardiac activity to ascertain the viability. Even use of electronic sonicaid is not adequate to make such diagnosis.

The person's level of exposure, most times would reflect from their way of writing. You can easily sense a kid from their unnecessary and meaningless abbreviations. I am not a dealer either, however I could really reason with all you wrote. The OP actually has got valid point as well from the angle of the cars in question being Nigeria Used and not Tokunbo. But one would have expected him to ease off after your analysis for the cost of bringing in a vehicle which is what everyone could easily relate with if you're not an uneducated kid,Dealer or no dealer.
very succinct. Thanks.

If the mileage is really 50k and it's a clean title, then the price is about right. The VIN report shows this is a clean title car and all owners used it as personal vehicle. But the mileage is a real fraud. From 165k to 50k... Wtf.
even if it's clean title, there must be a reason why an 8yr old car had 3 owners in its 8yr life in the US. That is not a good history. A clean title and the last owner dumped it off at auction for sale. There must be something wrong. Personally I won't buy. But I'm telling the OP that he can get a good 08 xle for about 3.5m. I hope op isn't part of the people that always look for a less than 60k mile in a 10yr old car. Cos we are ignorantly so brainwashed by mileage in this country.

U see how unscrupulous our dealers can be. Mileage as at Feb 2016 was 165k miles. This is April 2017 and mileage is 50k miles. They can't even roll back with sense. The price is too high. Max should be 3.5m since its xle. Always run a VIN check.

D cost of car on nairaland by dealers is very high and unusual,y on earth some1 well post Camry 1999 4 1m ,goft 1 4 650k,Honda oddese 2000 4 1.5m,Honda baby boy 800k etc......all Nija used.even more expensive Dan new car

Make ena fear God o.....
have u sat down to do some calculation? Shipping that camry from US is about $1000- $1200. That is about 380k - 456k. Custom clearing agents collect up to 300k for that vehicle. That is 756k. Do you think they picked that car free on the road in US? Now factor in the purchasing cost of the car and see its very close to 1m. Dealers don't even like selling such cars cos it doesn't give them profit. Please before u open such threads, try and do some research. If u can get it cheaper elsewhere, I don't think u will come here complaining about nairaland. Dealers. FYI, I'm not a dealer. But I get my cars myself from US. So I know.
