Reading most comments, I weep for Nigeria. So gullible with an amazingly fast amnesia. Senator Hope Uzodinma is after nothing but corrupt benefits that he and his cohorts would accrue from NCS. I pity Nigeria. We don't have a long way to go. We just don't have the way to go.

Yeah.
Clean titled means it has never been in any major accident, maybe minor scratches.
Accidented car has been in a major accident that probably affected d chassis or deployed d airbags though as at d time U are buying d car in Lagos,it might have been reworked and repainted but U know white men keep a documented record of all these things and it can be accessed with d car's vehicle identification number.
Guess U've heard also of ppl running VIN checks.
true, but not all salvage title cars were involved in major accident. Some salvage title have as little as some brushes that happened here in lagos. But the truth is that most of our dealers bring in wreck. When I say wreck, I mean wreck. This is because it's cheap for them and that's what u and I can pay for. For instance a clean title 2003 corolla goes for about $5000. Add shipping fee, clearing fee then profit. How many will want to pay such for a 2003. Almost all cars at lagos dealer stands are salvage title.

Its clear you don't even understand the direction of this poorly thought out policy ..Who are the defaulters in this case? The car owner, the car importer or corrupt customs officials?
everybody is the defaulter. The agent who failed to pay, the custom officer who connived to release unpaid item and the buyer who paid for an item without custom duty. Due diligence has to be done when buying a car as when buying a parcel of land.

Remember such stuff could lead to ppl losing elections if not that we're in a place where ppl vote based on religious and tribal sentiments.
That's y responsible govts are always concerned if I as little as add 1naira to d price of pure water but I guess Nigeria and Africa in general is yet to have that luck.
I tend to disagree a bit. I feel GEJ lost election cos he compromised a lot due to the fact he wanted to be re elected. My principle is do the right thing and in the long run people will thank you for that.

Were the duty paid by you or the importer ?

How do we know that all your cars have full custom duty paid on them if you are not going there for the exercise because custom did not put exemption, they said all should come and check.

Take your car or take your document is still the same thing at least you will not trek to that place and if they claim there is a missing document then the car would be there for them to complete the formalities.
those who have duly paid papers know themselves. Before I buy any car or before I take delivery from the ports, I verify the C number on the SGD documents at their command in lagos. Some months ago, some nairalanders were offering that service here, GAZZUZZ and some other people. That's due diligence. Moreover when buy a toks, the only meaningful document as it is that's handed over to you is custom documents. So y can't u do due diligence on the document before parting with ur money.

why not channel d punishment to d corrupt customs officials and their importer collaborators?
How many ordinary Nigerians know d nitty gritty of appropriate and genuine custom duty?
The customs agents and importers who perpetrate these crimes, are they spirits, why can't they be traced and punished instead of transferring d punishment to d innocent car owners?
my brother, I quite understand u. But in management what matters is getting the result and not how u get it. It is the quest to buy very cheap cars that push most importers to fly cars. Also the greed by some importers too. Picture an image where no one wants to buy a car without custom duty becos of past experience or that of a friend.

Please use your brain. Why should they go after the buyers, did they know that the import duties were not paid. I bet your statement will change if they come after you for your phone import duty. Think wisely please. If they want this corruption to go, they should build a software that would enable everyone to check on the import duty before doing any purchase.
ignorance before the law is not an excuse. U r supposed to do due diligence and make sure all documents are legit before buying a car. When u buy a stolen car unknowingly and police catches u, is that an excuse. Meanwhile most people even intentionally go for cars they "fly" into the country without custom duty cos it's cheaper. That's corruption. Yet u will point at a government official for being corrupt. If this exercise records success, believe me nobody will want to buy a car without custom duty payment. Then no dealer will want to have a car without custom duty payment. If all dealers now decide to pay appropriately, tell me where the corrupt custom officer will see sharp practices to do.

This is exactly what Dora akunyili fought in the drug sector and got the nod from most of us. Yet we sentimentally condemn him because of the useless greedy Senate. Let him go full throttle and implement it. This is the best way to stamp out corruption. Believe me it will get to a point that ordinary people like u and I will walk into customs and pay our duties by ourselves or do it even from the comfort of our bedrooms. The awareness will be strong and everybody will now insist on confirming authenticity of custom papers before buying any car. I implore then to create an online portal for transparency.
Politics › Re: Hameed Ali Defies Senate's Directives, Sets To Start Vehicles Verification Today by chukel(m): 9:42am On Mar 13, 2017
People really have a warped sense of reasoning. We want him to stamp out corruption in customs. But have we sat back to think that if we decide not to cut corners, there won't be corruption customs. How we do that is by policies like this. Every importer will want to make sure he genuinely pays for duties. Every buyer will want to verify authenticity of custom papers. Then the corrupt custom officer will not find who to have dealings with cos no one wants to cut corners. Truly we are not ready for a better Nigeria.

Seriously, a lot of Nigerians lack sense. Seriously. This man was not and is not a customs official. Retired military man. He was appointed to oversee customs and by right doesn't even deserve to wear the number 1 custom uniform. It's even a slap to custom to wear their number 1 uniform as he didn't grow in rank. The anomaly started when he was appointed and the useless Senate ratified the appointment. Unfortunately they said it wasn't unconstitutional. When I read people's reasoning, I pity Nigeria. It will never be well. We are just animals in reasoning. Not even higher animals.

From responses I see, most of us are economically unsound. How long can they sustain the pumping. They are depleting foreign reserves. The other week was $300m. This week is $350m. These amounts can get our economy somewhere if truly and wisely invested. Then genuine appreciation of naira will be seen. This short interim abracadabra will lead the economy into long term doom.

Peeps in the house best locally available rotor for 03 Accord 4cyl huh The last one I used was that one that comes in orange waterproof wrapping. Came across Asimco once but haven't sighted it again. I have dealt with them on multiple occassions; very reliable and generally cheaper than Amazon prices. You will have to pay by paypal except you have a US based bank account as I do not think they accept cards from banks outside the US.

However, their system does not have reviews, I usually copy the part number to Amazon to see if the product is listed there with user reviews.

We bought two helicopters, but for security reasons, Governor Amaechi says

Premium Times
Rotimi Amaechi
The Rivers Governor accused the federal government of scuttling the state’s security plans.

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State on Thursday confirmed that his administration had indeed bought two helicopters. He, however, said the helicopters were meant to help secure the state.

He described as “false and mischievous” the report that the Rivers Government acquired four aircraft in preparation for the 2015 election.

A national daily alleged that Mr. Amaechi had in the last four months, acquired four aircraft, two armoured helicopters and two private jets, for political campaign in the 2015 presidential elections.

An armoured helicopter sells at about $18 million, while the Gulf Stream costs $10 million, the paper said.

The paper further reported that $56 million (N9 billion) was spent on the acquisition of the helicopters and the two Jets.

Mr. Amaechi, who spoke with State House Correspondents, dismissed the report, alleging that the newspaper was only trying to be popular by being mischievous.

He admitted that the State Government acquired the two helicopters for security surveillance and not for political reason.

He said the helicopters would be controlled by the Nigerian Air force for patrol of the state.

“The truth is that, and the Federal Government is aware, they gave us approval to buy two helicopters to fly around the state for the purpose of security and we have done that, we bought and we paid.

“Up till now, they have not allowed the helicopter to come in. May be they are afraid that it is for 2015. Please help us beg them on behalf of the state that we need the aircraft to be able to secure the people of the state,” he said.

“Again, it is not within our control, it is in the control of the Nigerian Air force. Well, we will hire a civilian pilot but Nigerian security will manage it, not us.

“So, how will you use what is in the hands of Nigerian security to campaign? You see the mischief?”

According to him, the two helicopters will ensure that Rivers is under watch for 24 hours.

Mr. Amaechi also dismissed the insinuation that he was contemplating decamping from the PDP to another party.

The governor has been having a running battle with the presidency and the national leadership of his party over his stance on major national issues including the corruption in the petrol subsidy payments. He is also said to be opposed to the re-election plan of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Full Story Read Below.

He is one of those thieves that attacked Crunchies yesterday at Nkpor /Onitsha area and was repelled by the resident security guard who did not only made them took to their heels but took the life of the gang leader.
An eye witness said the dreaded gang trailed a Tundra Van who made his way into the premises where they opened fire, shooting sporadically and destroying everything on sight, and razing the vehicle containing a huge sums of money with their AK47 riffle until the resident security guard responded in a reprisal attack that killed the leader of the gang and made the rest scamper for safety living the money untouched.

However, in an almost simultaneous development, around St. Charles Borromeo junction Onitsha where a police officer was said to have pushed an Hausa cyclist (Okada man) over an argument but unfortunately, he fell and his head crushed by a passing vehicle leading to a mob attack by the Hausa community which almost overpowered the police men on duty before the arrival of a backup team that intervened, made some arrests and calmed the situation.

With these developments, the people are grateful to Governor Willie Obiano's security policy and to the security operatives for effectively managing the situation thereby calling on the authorities to ensure the culprits are made to bear the consequences of their actions in accordance with the law.

Going through the above stories however, I remembered a recent situation in Imo State where over 30 armed men in what appeared like a Rambo movie, stormed the premises of Owerri High Court, shooting at prison officials and overpowering a team of security operatives thereby rescuing their mentor, a famous deadly bandit popularly known as Vampire, Mr Chibueze Henry, a notorious killer and armed robbery suspect. The operation allegedly left two persons dead and lots of others grossly injured, yet no arrest was made.
