My baby finally picked up his visa today!! Yaaayyyy!!!! Guys the headache of the oanda rate of using naira to buy pounds or vice versa is unnecessary cos all i did was multiple the tuition fees by the rate i wanted to calculate it by eg £5000*N400. Cos the rate isnt stable anyway all this naira side and pound side i didnt use it it was just this week i read on the forum and saw the headache it was causing its simple maths.
So i used N400 to calculate but by the time i was submitting the rate was N419 but as justwise advised i submitted it like that cos we all really dont have control over the market. So i was about N40,000 short or there about
Also my UK bank didnt give me a bank statement as they dont issue monthly bank statements for savings account so they gave me a letter stating how much was in there and how long it had been there for wt the account name and number.

Actually I had the same issue but then I confirmed it from a friend who works at the Imperial College. The 22:00 is when they close for the day and take the mean fluctuations for the day. They use the last trading day to arrive at the average of the next trading day. So you don't have to print a day before. The date is there for u. You were lucky the rates were almost the same for the two days in question. Lol. Congrats man.

Lucky you. But why did you print Oanda converter for the 31st when your application was on the 1st? Anyway I checked the Oanda rate for both 31st of July and 1st of August and they were almost the same. Explains pls. Thanks.

i received my CAS on the 29th July
i applied online using the UKVI website on the 1st day of August ( i made all effort to be truthful though i made errors which i think were negligible)
i paid using first bank at 375naira to a dollar ( 440 USD visa fee and 220 USD IHS)
i had appointment for interview in Abuja on the 3rd day of August
Documents submitted include ( documents on CAS, TB certificate, bank statement, Oanda currency converter for the 31st day of july)
i had my interview, on the 5th day, i got a mail that my application has been received at Sheffield
On the 22nd of August, i received another mail that decision has been made
i got a mail by 9:53am this morning that the documents has been pass backed from the consulate
i collected it this afternoon, thank you so much

Sorry to prove Justwise wrong, but I spoke with the home office and they made it clear over the phone that it's 15 days from the day your documents were received and acknowledged by the UKVI. Haba! They even confirmed what I said before that TLS and VACs are all partners not UKVI workers. If your application exceeds 15 days from that point, they will definitely email you to explain. That's the confusion. This last guy that just got his visa here is a proof. Calculate his timing. Others too. No one has exceeded 15 days. But if you calculate with the day of application, almost nobody got his or her own before 15 days. Another funny thing is this, what if you extended ur appointment date maybe a week or more from the day of application, while another person selects a day after his application as his interview date, will both of u get ur visa the same time because u applied the same day? Funny.

lol... @justwise the person is not clueless (the mail was sent by VISAINFO.SHEFO@fco.gov.uk acknowledging receipt of application), it is just @chucksbenin who interpreted it wrongly. this is an extract of the mail for everybody to make their own Judgement.

Please note that UKVI aims to complete all Visit Visa applications within 15 working days and all Settlement Visa applications within 12 weeks of the application date. If it is not possible to complete your application within this timeframe a member of our team will contact you to explain why.

Baba Justwise no vex o. I was just interpreting what I saw from the mail sent by Sheffield to me and other applicants. They made it clear that the 15 working days are specifically for processing. And of course processing starts from the point of reception by the UKVI not the VAC. In fact the VAC guys can not even do anything about your application until they receive any instruction from the Home office. I stand to be corrected though and I still respect your wealth of experience in this field. Respect!

That is incorrect, it starts from the date you made your application and not the day they received it and send you and acknowledgement email

Hahahahahaha! Lotto? I just checked now. The rate will come down tomorrow. It's already 431 minimum and 452 maximum. If it remains like this till 22:00 when Oanda closes for the next trading day, it will come down tomorrow. My best pick is do ur applications on Wednesday or Thursday. Just check the rate tomorrow morning and compare with today. I can bet anything that the rate will come down below 450 tomorrow. I'll prove that this is not lotto. It worked for me.

Just to set the records straight, hope we all know that the 15 working days actually start counting from the day you receive that email from UKVI that they have received your documents and application, not from the day of your application or interview because that is where they will officially declare to you that the process will take 15 days. Besides they cannot process what they have not seen. Thanks guys

Yea. The live rate was stable yesterday like I said before the news broke about the ban on banks. Thank God the rates increased after 22:00 when Oanda has already concluded their average for today. The live rate this morning is high and a bit unstable ranging from 435 to 450 and currently 449 so I advice people who can to apply today sharply. Their will definitely be an increase tomorrow. Let's pray they lift the ban soonest. And remember that weekends are always high, stable and dormant so it's a no no. All the best my people.

As long as the balance was never less than the required amount for your maintenance throughout the 28 days duration , you are good to go. Start counting from 28th of July to be on the safe side.

Hi everyone,

I made a recent payment for the balance of my tuition and accommodation and I just submitted my tier 4 online visa application before receiving an updated CAS in anticipation that it will be updated before my appointment, only to realise it may have been the wrong way to go about it. I have not yet submitted my application in person as my appointment is in a few days. So what do you suggest I do? Should I print out the the updated CAS and attach to my application when receive it or should I cancel my application and start afresh? What should I do? Your advice will be appreciated, I'm freaking out at the moment. Thanks in advance

This is the best option. I calculated with 446 but ended up applying the day it was 419.142. Just add enough buffer.

I suggest you wait till Monday and if nothing happens still, you visit the VAC. Happened to a guy here. He went there and discovered his passport has been sent a long time ago. I hope they notify you soonest. All the best

Good news. Live rates dropped this morning to 428. If it continues like this, expect something less than 430 on Oanda tomorrow. Today on Oanda is 435. For those using banks that were affected by this new development, GTBANK is ur best bet. All the best house.

See bro, these guys don't care about your accommodation as long as you have the money in your account. Besides where you will stay won't be an issue as long as you paid your tuition and still have money for accommodation and maintenance. I paid for accommodation but they still showed it on my checklist that I don't have any proof of accomodation yet. But the good thing is that all my payments were updated on my CAS so the home office knows that you have paid but the room allocation has not started maybe.

And what if they decide to check if u have made any form of payment regarding school accomodation like paying deposit. What if he books a hotel and then puts down the address of the hotel? Won't it be ok?

Just write the name of ur university. They won't bug u on this. They didn't ask me about accommodation but if they ask you, just tell them you are staying in the school.

When completing the online form on Visa4UK website, there is place asking question about accommodation address. Is it advisable to use school address if one is planning to tell them at the interview that one will be staying at school accommodation?

Although, I plan to get off campus accommodation anyway, but for the purpose of completing the form and passing the interview I am thinking it will be okay to be consistent on that.

Any opinion on this point?

Hello house, my course is for 16 months, how many months maintenance fee will i need to show as evidence provided i have paid part of the tuition.
I know if the duration is for 1 year, one has to show 9 months evidence. Kindly advise.

The live market is a bit stable between 430 to 435 to £1. It has not dropped below 430 today but then it has not gone above 435 too but it's still a long way to 22:00 when Oanda takes their average for the next day. Hopefully something will happen. All the best man.

Yesterday wasn't a funny day for me at all. If my blood pressure was checked it will be as high as the heavens. Anyway, I got some respite after Naira took a upward path this morning.

I got my CAS today, my maintenance money was calculated based on N430 to a pound. And I also plan to pay for the NHS surcharge, priority visa fee from that same balance.

My question goes to the forecasters in the house, please do you think naira could be at 429 tomorrow?

When the money was lodged it never crossed my mind it will go beyond 405.
Please is it the final balance that will be used or other balances in the statement?
Will they check my account to see if the money is intact?

I had this experience in Germany not in the UK. To be honest with you I don't know how it works in the UK. But in Germany all you need do is to notify them in the course of your application that you are aware of the debt and show ur readiness to pay up and give strong reasons why you weren't able to pay until now. Don't say you don't have money to pay o. That will jeopardise your fate the more. Instead use things like monetary transfer policy or say that you got the letter late and couldn't do anything. Just be as honest as you can. It wasn't a big deal for me though as I was debited during my registration at the Rathaus in Deutschland. Goodluck!

MrsDaniels, let me make it clear to you for the last time. It's the currency you have on the left and the currency you want on the right side. If you applied to schools in London who are on this new pilot platform, you will be told to do this specifically because the embassy allows them to assess the financial strength of students. These students don't get to submit their financial proof to the embassy because the embassies have strong confidence in the judgement of these top schools. A friend at the Imperial college told me this without mincing words. Thank you.
