Well, well, well, Skrill works afterall.

Yesterday, I received a payment from a client in the UK for some work done for him via Skrill. He deposited about $2,000 into my Skrill account. I had already verified my account with my international passport, so my limits were lifted to "unlimited". I had also added and verified my domiciliary bank account earlier.

So what did I do? I decided to make the withdrawal to my dorm account yesterday afternoon. I can authoritatively report that I got my account credit this afternoon, with a total charge of $35 for the wire transfer.

So yes, SKRILL WORKS IN NAIJA and I can make domiciliary withdrawals and have my money in 24 hours.
Yea, Skrill works perfectly. Mine takes a day to get into my dorm account. I would really encourage us to ditch paypal and get Skrill. You get better exchange rate (with e-exchangers) and also have the option of withdrawing and selling your funds at black market.

You raised good points. smiley But now that I've finished my connects for this month, it's to be looking upandan nau. cheesy . I actually wasted the connects this months, imagine, I finished it in 2 days... I was seeing works I can do, yet clients won't give me, despite the fact that I was the first applicant. In my mind I was like "just give me this job, it's something I can do perfectly!!" angry angry

I'll streamline my skills on there too, maybe it's too jampacked.
I'm on the 3 websites Upwork, Fiverr and Freelancer.

Thanks for the advice. smiley
Don't just apply to jobs, write quality proposals. Really doesn't need to be long. And I bet you'll never be able to use up to half of your connects per month. You don't need to be the fastest fingers first either, at the detriment of a quality proposal.

Streamline your niche, apply to jobs relating to it, get good reviews, and then you can scale up.

one thing that keep discouraging me about Upwork is their app, one can't be on PC everytime with this naija situation.... Unlike fiverr app that you receive notifications instantly, Upwork app doesn't respond, it takes forever to even connect.... Is this how it is generally?
I do receive instant notifications both on upwork app and via mail. If you don't, you should enable your mail to receive notifications where you can be notified instantly. I guess you use an android? And besides, you can access upwork too on mobile browser. I access upwork only via my phone using desktop view setting.

Anytime brova. cheesy

Really tired of Upwork now...

So much interviews, yet no work!

Imagine, using the whole 60 connects and getting just 1 interview. cheesy cheesy
Well, congrats! grin

But I'll advise you not to abandon Upwork. Trust me, there're numerous benefits to get.
In as much as you earn on Fiverr, it's equally good to develop a profile (your real one) on Upwork or Freelancer(I prefer Upwork ). This is because I know majority of us use US profiles on fiverr. But think of upwork as that you can use to build a real identity. Besides, what if any of the platforms packs up unexpectedly or has temporal hitches (we've seen on numerous occasions, temporary hitches with fiverr's algorithms and account bans).

You need to be on all platforms, although more focused on one than the others. Trust me, it'll pay off in the end. Look at it as making money on fiverr (with different profile of course) and building reputation on Upwork. It may be tough but don't give up grin. What you need is to gradually build up your profile with good reviews.. And you won't need to spend your connects applying for jobs.

Despite taking a break, I still get invites daily and just recently, I got contracts from 2 separate US based Naija guys - one I'm about to seal will offer me a part time offline job here in Naija while the other (a mouth watering long term contract) explicitly told me he was giving me the contract because "you're my sister" cheesy. So, don't abandon upwork oo. My 2 cents lipsrsealed.

Thanks for this info. I have just opened mine but don't understand " add bank account/ credit/debit card" aspect. How can one use it to receive and pay out? Is it right there on their site?
The add bank account option is for domiciliary account. Once you click on it, you'll notice 2 boxes where you'll input your bank account number (domiciliary) and swift code. Then you can withdraw your funds to the account.

The Credit/debit card option is for local bank (Nigerian) VISA OR MASTERCARD. Note that if you go with this option, your funds will be converted at the official prevailing exchange rate which is low. You can also fund your skrill by uploading funds from your visa or mastercard. I haven't tried this option though.

Your best bet is using the dom account option or selling to skrill exchangers at better rates.

Or you could get end users and send them mails.

Using Keywords to search for related sites like yours.
That's true, if you park a newly reg. domain, no income.
There's a particular end user that uses the "s" variation of the domain. And even others with the dot net and info extension. But I have plans to develop it to a site and maybe sell in future cheesy

My point, nothing stops you from trying other online businesses with Fiverr.

Cheers.
Good to see there's still income generating prospects with domain parking..did you get it expired or hand reg?
Have one with godaddy but thinking of using it for a personal site.

Hey peeps. UPWORK can a gold mine if you are sure of your skill sects, its no trial by error. since i registered there, i know how many months it took me to land my first 2 cleints, that is after tweaking my profile description several times offering different services.
UNTIL RECEENTLY I DECIDED TO STICK TO ONE SERVICE I KNEW VERY WELL. I just landed an ongoing client paying me not less than $130/week.

Advice: before you think of going to upwork, make sure you are grounded in your skill sect, its not like fiverr that favors new comers, upwork requires lots of hard work but really pays. just one client can land you a permanent job.
True. I joined Upwork in April. Submitted proposals severally without winning any.
What I did - I wrote some tests, tweaked my profile, and picked a very narrowed down NICHE! And voila! I submitted 6 proposals thereafter, got 3 jobs plus one additional invite. One of the jobs paid me $18 per hour @ 15 hours per week for 4 weeks. I have completed the jobs now, got excellent reviews and now I woke up yesterday to find out I've be given the Upwork Rising Talent badge. I'm taking a break now to get myself a lappy and get prepared for more work ahead wink ...but I'm still getting invites and even declining offers! And even my 76 connects are about to go waste next week.

Verdict - Upwork truly is a goldmine - but only for the highly skilled or experienced! It's a highly competitive place and sometimes I feel I got lucky because I can't till now explain how a newbie like me got jobs that needed native English speakers, with a job success score of 90% plus 100 hours worked...lol. grin

My advice - If you want to make it there, be sure to have a skill you're extremely good at. And choose a niche you're good at and in which you can sell yourself! Show you're a professional in your niche and you can only do that by tweaking your profile to reflect that and selling yourself in your proposal.

Then after the proposal, and you get the invite, during the interview, communicate with confidence - show you know your onions, offer suggestions, ask questions. And when you deliver make sure you deliver a good job. Cos trust me, the clients there have high expectations and might be stingy with excellent reviews.

P.S. I'm on fiverr and freelancer, but to me, nothing beats upwork!!
I love it cheesy I love the organisation, I love the system, I love the platform. Only downside I'm not happy about is that they've changed their pricing policy, so from June 1st, they'll charge 20% for new contracts.

hello great freelancers, upwork and fiver gurus. I came across this information that says "Skrill is currently accepting Nigerians." This is a very great development because we can now receive money into skrill from the top three freelancing site.

Checkout this thread https://www.nairaland.com/3065495/skrill-moneybookers-now-accept-nigerians#45900413

I also want to know if anyone is currently using skrill , or have registered an account with them. please share the knowledge, what you have encountered as well as its pros and cons.

below is a pic of my account and the limit that skrill has capped for Nigerians. It also good to know that skrill charges just 1% to receive money. I dont know the amount they charge for sending money. I am yet to test that with a client. this seems to be a great option, since paypal has deliberately refused to put Nigeria on their list. I also notice that you can withdrew your skrill money into your DOM account.

I just discovered that you can also send the money directly to your bank account, but the downside to this is that it will be converted at the CBN official rate, so a DOM account or selling it directly to a buyer who needs skrill funds is the way round to sell it at black market price.

am current testing their service with a client who asked if I have skrill so he can pay in directly. to avoid the charges on freelance sites.
I would really like to know more on this. When I navigated the site, I came across something like a 10 euro cap. I didn't get that part. However, it would be a welcome development if skrill charges just 1% to receive money. And for the fact that one can withdraw to DOM account. That means I can bypass the $30 upwork charges for withdrawal to Dom and then sell at black market rate. I beginning to think of going with this option. Please anyone with experience using skrill can share so we know the challenges.
