TJN used data from the World Bank, IMF, central banks and governments, and supplemented these with models of money flows and offshore private banking to produce what they say is "among the most rigorous and comprehensive" estimates of unrecorded capital flows and accumulated offshore wealth. |
Sub-Saharan Africa: capital flight, secret wealth and debt The elites of many sub-Saharan African countries have accumulated so much secret offshore wealth it could pay off their countries' external debts many times over, according to Tax Justice Network research |
Sorry, forty times our debt Report author James Henry said: "Since the 1970s … it appears that private elites in developing world countries have been able to accumulate at least $7.3tn-9.3tn of offshore wealth, even while many of their public sectors were borrowing themselves into bankruptcy, enduring agonising structural adjustment and low growth, and holding fire sales for public assets." |
http://www.guardian.co.uk/global-development/datablog/2012/jul/19/developing-world-offshore-wealth-external-debt?intcmp=239 TJN estimates capital flight from Nigeria has totalled $233.9bn in the four decades since 1970. Once investment income is included, this stock of secret wealth could be as large as $306.2bn, the report says – nearly 40 times the country's total external debt of $7.9bn. |
FOR ALL OF YOU WHO THOUGHT THAT THERE IS NO MONEY IN NIGERIA, you now see that our leaders just lie to us while we fight over tribalism and religion!! We are neck to neck with Saudi Arabia. Remember we produce 2 million barrels officially but the oil companies overproduce by times two or three. Then bunkering is about an extra one million barrels. That means we produce about seven million barrels of light sweet crude which is a better quality than Saudis heavy crude. Unfortunately the fracking done in the US HAS INCREASED their supply of light crude reducing their demand for our oil |
ACCORDING TO A RESEARCG DONE BY THE GUARDIAN NEWSPAPERS IN THE UK http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/jul/21/global-elite-tax-offshore-economy?commentpage=2#start-of-comments Oil-rich states with an internationally mobile elite have been especially prone to watching their wealth disappear into offshore bank accounts instead of being invested at home, the research suggests. Once the returns on investing the hidden assets is included, almost £500bn has left Russia since the early 1990s when its economy was opened up. Saudi Arabia has seen £197bn flood out since the mid-1970s, and Nigeria £196bn. |

Many parts of the city were affected by the flood which caused extensive damage. Incidentally, most of the parts that were affected by the August 26, 2011 flood also bore the brunt of the latest flood.http://thestreetjournal.org/2012/07/flood-sweeps-ibadan-again/ |
It is rather disconcerting that 12 months or so after her second coming, Okonjo-Iweala still does not know the average volume of fuel consumption in Nigeria. It is sad that under her purview, the fuel subsidy budget for 2011 was brazenly exceeded without as much as a whimper of protest from her ministry until after the bubble burst in the first quarter of 2012! In the light of the above, it is clear that the current shenanigans in the fuel market can only lead to market dislocations and shortfalls. It may ultimately devolve on the NNPC to step in and save the day; after all, they have always been responsible for the bulk of market supply anyway. Thus, in spite of the minister’s assurances of the several vessels waiting to discharge stocks, it is unlikely that the NNPC would as usual gladly jump in to close supply gaps, without prior formal executive and/or legislative approval to bypass the Federation Account and directly commit its crude export revenue to such an unsustainable financial venture. The consequent stalemate in imports as a result of the above factors will lead to a huge drop in fuel importation, and it may once again be crying time nationwide, as fuel scarcity disrupts normal life. That notwithstanding, it will be market day once again for those nefarious hoarders of fuel. Nonetheless, Nigerians are keeping a close watch on the market, so as to thwart the large-scale fraud and theft witnessed lately in this commercial subsector. |
In a media comment on delayed subsidy payments, a major oil importer confirmed that “the banks give us loans based on 21 per cent and they usually apply a default rate of 35 per cent… Many of us have not been paid for imports made in February 2012! A lot of marketers are still being owed subsidy arrears for 2011.” The spokesman for another major oil marketer disclosed that, “the banks are already getting impatient with delayed loan repayments” (The PUNCH, June 19). |
recall the Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s media interview recently. In response to a question as to whether subsidy payments were ongoing, Okonjo-Iweala, who also doubles as the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, confirmed that out of a total N888bn budgeted for subsidy in 2012, the sum of N451bn had already been paid out, well before the end of the second quarter! |
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/07/fuel-subsidy-govs-to-drag-fg-to-s-court/ The governors during a meeting at the Rivers State Governors Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja have concluded arrangements to drag the Federal Government to the Supreme Court over deductions from the federation account. The governors, the source said, are approaching the apex court for final explanation on the formula for withdrawal from their account. The Federal Government in this years budget earmarked N880 billion to finance fuel subsidy, but after seven months, the said amount has been exhausted. |
Is it true you owe BOSON 400,000 NAIRA. PLEASE PAY UP AND KEEP YOUR INTEGRITY. |

I was in Pakistan in 2007 and it is a huge freaking paranoid country. It was not surprising though since the United States through Israel and Saudi Arabia used their country to ferry arms to the TALIBAN, Northern Alliance to defeat the Soviets. There is a film about it called HART'S war named after the Texas senator who sourced for the finance and contacts to deal with the Soviets using two so-called enemies for the greater good. They all told me way back then that Osama was in their country but I did not believe and based on where he was caught in a military garrison area near their defense academy it would not have been possible without the backing of their security forces who may have people in the know in western capitals while the war on terror was going on for over a decade. They told me other scary stuff like time travel experiments by the US MILITARY AND even haplotype specific neutron bombs developed by the Israelis that can target specific tribes. Little wonder they also keep over a hundred nuclear warheads minus what they want to sell to Saudi Arabia as a deterrent to Iran. In summary, the world is a complex place and a lot of conspiracy theories have some underlying truth in them |
sorry, al jazeera not al hazards |
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/04/world/middleeast/report-by-al-jazeera-says-arafat-was-poisoned.html The widow of Yasir Arafat, the father figure of Palestinian nationalism who mysteriously died more than seven years ago, said she would seek permission to exhume his remains for an inquest, after a report by Al Jazeera that said he might have been poisoned with polonium, a rare radioactive isotope. The report, which contradicted Mr. Arafat’s medical records, resurrected conspiracy theories on Twitter that he had been killed by agents of Israel or by Palestinian rivals. Al Jazeera said its report was based on traces of polonium found on his underwear and other belongings given by his widow, Suha, to the Institute of Radiation Physics at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. Mr. Arafat, left, fell ill in October 2004 and died at a hospital in France on Nov. 11 of unannounced causes. He was 75. An inconclusive Palestinian inquiry in 2005 ruled out cancer, AIDS or poisoning. His medical records, obtained by The New York Times that year, showed that he had died of a stroke that resulted from a bleeding disorder caused by a mysterious infection. For those who do not know it is an open secret that both ARAFAT AND IDI AMIN were poisoned by the MOSSAD and the State Department. One of the agents sent to accomplish the hits wrote about it after giving his life to Christ, his name is John Elliot and the book is the " AUGUST ASSASSIN " which you can buy on Amazon. He was a contract killer for the State Department and also worked for the MOSSAD. To show you how scary America is the State Department has its own killer squad separate from the CIA, FBI , DEA , ATF AND A HOST OF OTHERS. That is why killing ABACHA AND ABIOLA WAS A PIECE OF CAKE FOR THEM. Read the book " THE AUGUST ASSASSIN " and realize that al hazards is just seeking cheap publicity from a well known assassination of Arafat by the Israelis. |
http://www.leadership.ng/nga/articles/23141/2012/04/28/blame_rise_boko_haram_attacks_pdp_nsa.html The national security adviser (NSA), Gen. Andrew Owoye Azazi, has blamed the internal wrangling in the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the rise of insurgency by the Boko Haram sect in the country. Azazi made this disclosure yesterday at the second South-South summit in Asaba, the Delta State capital, where the collapse of the nation’s security challenge was deliberated on. “ PDP got it wrong from the beginning, by saying Mr. A can rule, Mr. A cannot rule…. according to PDP’s convention, rules and regulations and not according to the constitution and that created the climate for what has manifested itself in this way.” He said. Azazi said that the “extent of violence did not increase in Nigeria until when there was a declaration by the current president that he was going to contest’, adding that there is some level of political undertone to the problem. The PDP, in its reaction, said that the NSA was “quoted out of contest.” National publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, maintained that the party is against terrorism, the activities of Boko Haram and all it represents. |
