Politics / Re: Fayose's Victory: A Thousand Steps Backward And a Very Sad Day For All Nigerians by cKaiser: 4:32am On Jul 01, 2014
Regarding this election in Ekiti what I take away from it is simple, Politics is simply a game of sentiments. People are more likely to vote for someone they like over someone who would do the job better

E.g If Jonathan ruins the economy and inflation is 10000% he would still win in several southern states and vice versa for a Northerner

Those trying to link this to Tinubu, Well this serves as a lesson, Fayose is more like Tinubu in outlook and grassroot. While Fayemi and Fashola are similar (technocrats)

A typical Tinubu/Fayose/Aregbesola would be seen in the local area drinking palmwine, smoking weed, dancing fuji, you would hear Wasiu singing for him regularly, while you would never find a Fayemi/Fashola in such gathering

But the reality is that in Nigeria and Africa Its the Tinubu/Fayose/Adedibu/Saraki people who win elections

If you doubt this, Put Fashola in an election vs Obanikoro(A common thug) in Lagos without Tinubus support, Fashola would be lucky to win 2 LGA

Without grassroot people (Tinubu/Fayose, Adedibu, Saraki, Ubah) who can pander to the peoples sentiments technocrats like Fayemi, Fashola would never succeed.

Same thing in any part of the country e.g if you put Chris Uba(A school dropout) vs Soludo(A Professor of Economics) without an external interference and see who would win.

Onlytruth: The truth is that if ever Nigeria divides, it would CERTAINLY be along the regional lines pre or at independence.
Why do I say this?
Because Nigeria was created by a FOREIGN (hence international supervision and control) power. The British brought all the parts together and filed Nigerian papers at the UN. Dividing Nigeria is NOT POSSIBLE WITHOUT BRITISH SUPPORT, just like the Bakassi issue was insoluble without British, French and German involvement. This is the mistake Nigeria made before going to the court at The Hague with Cameroon.
The UN does not (and cannot) handle internally splintered countries without "international community" (world powers, some of which are colonial powers).
So, all these "Niger delta", "Middle belt" people thinking of nationhood are actually day dreaming because it will NEVER happen. The British does not recognised them. They recognize Northern, Eastern, and Western Nigeria. They may be persuaded to go back to pre -1906, or pre-1914. Nothing more.

Nobody wants chaos at the UN.

This makes absolutely no sense
Because what would the Ndokwa ppl be doing in Western Nigeria or the people In delta state be doing in Western Nigeria
Same thing what would Akwa-Cross-Rivers-Bayelsa be doing in Eastern Nigeria
Any disintegration would be like that of Yugoslavia. Into 7 or more states
Nobody wants chaos in UN yet they assimilated 7 states from Old Yugoslavia and 11 from old USSR

I see you have issues reading, the thundrous defeat from APGA is staggering, read again. I said, PDP leaders, at least not under the leadership of President GEJ... He's a senator not a PDP leader which is why I specifically mentioned BUHARI. You have serious issues, oya go and sleep.

The PDP National Chairman under Jonathan which is directly the number 1 PDP man in the country has released a statement claiming Boko Haram is fighting for justice yet its APC

Below is Bamanga Tukur the PDP national chairman under Jonathans regime

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has said members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, are fighting for justice

According to him, many Nigerians feel aggrieved and seek various means of airing their grievances.

Tukur, who spoke in Abuja on Tuesday when he received members of the party from Gombe State, said there must be justice in the country for peace to reign.

PDP leaders never supported Boko Haram, at least not under the leadership of President GEJ. On the other hand, Buhari promised baboons and dogs soaked in blood. What was their response to BH? They asked govt to settle them and give them monthly allowance, and indirectly supported their deeds, even showing concern for them... PDP had always spoken against it, even their northern governors... APC is a canker worm to us, we must dismantle them. grin

I never knew ppl can go to this extent to deny the truth, I thought the only Senator arrested for being a Boko Haram sponsor was in the PDP

Senator Ali Ndume has been arrested last night following allegations that he was one of the sponsors of the dreaded group popularly known as Boko Haram.

He was fingered alongside former Nigeria's ambassador to Sao Tome and Principe, the late Amb. Sa'idu Pindar by a kingpin of the sect, Ali Sanda Umar Konduga, aka, Usman Al-Zawahiri who was paraded by the State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja yesterday as being sponsors of the violent sect.

Though his arrest was not confirmed as at press time, sources said Ndume who is a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator from Borno State and a former Minority Whip in the House of Representatives, was picked up even before the suspect was paraded and made to speak to journalists at the SSS headquarters.

The fact is the Population of Akwa-Ibom is less than a quarter of Lagos State.

Lagos has to priortize its expenses

Can the OP tell us the amount Akwa Ibom makes divided by the number of people living there and now compare this side by side with Lagos

Add that to the fact the Awolowo was in jail between 1963 to 1967.

So in essence Awolowo between 1950-1962 was using money he would later seize from Ibos in 1970 to fund Free education 2 decades earlier

Dont worry if it doesnt make sense, Its simply Ibo logic

Akanbi_edu: The reason is simple, Yorubas are the only non-Igbo group in Nigeria that spend too much time arguing with Igbos. This is one of those things I wish I could change about Yorubas. I don't know what we stand to gain by defending or trying to change peoples mind. From my little experience in life, its one of those things that doesn't work. Igbos suffer from confirmation bias, they are only interested in confirming what they were told by their parents.

They abuse every other person, but you don't see people responding to them. In fact, the Hausa-fulani is the most abused people in Nigeria but they don't even appear bothered. Thats self-assurance if you asked me.

Let Yorubas drop the idea that they can win debates/arguments based on prejudices.

#Agbalagba se nu kodoro,

I wun nma se wa ninu mi.

agbalagba se nu kodoro#

Act, stop talking.

Akanbi

Why I dont agree with you is this. A lot of neutrals who dont know anything about these would believe the Ibo propaganda machine if they go unchallenged. With the zeal the Ibos propagate this from Achebe to Chimamanda to Arthur Eze even to the common roadside seller. A lie often told unchallenged would replace the truth

Assuming you are a neutral non Nigerians and you go to read and all you find out is that One side is bad and one side is good. Before you know it you would take that as the default position. Thats why winners of war write history to favour them

I have met some people who would discuss the Biafra war as "The Hausa moslem war against the Ibo Xtians because of their difference in faith"

I now told a few the story and encouraged them to read from the beginning especially starting from the Jan 15 1966 coup. Most of them after reading usually either change their opinion or end up speechless from how their previous opinions were shaped by propaganda

E.g like few months ago a poster came here claimed to be African American and was rantin about how the Ibos were killed during the war. He was given an example by a poster cant remember who that since he is American if some ppl decide Congress and Senate are corrupt and the problems of Americans and they killed the leaders but after the putsch you find out it was only Black leaders that were killed and all whites spared, What would be his reaction to that.

In response he said all blacks including him would carry arms and revenge. He was told that was the position of Nigeria in 1966. He couldnt say anything again apart from "That is messed up"

He left here with a different view and mindset from what he brought in

If you leave all these unchallenged your own grandchildren would read their lies and believe it.

On this thread few pages back Someone claimed Awolowo killed Ibos so as to use their money to fund free education. Imagine that!! when Free education was an Action Group initiative in the western region between 1950-1966 after 1966 there was nothing like Action Group again and by 1966 Military were in power till 1979.
