Edo 2024: Ighodalo presents his certificate of return to Obaseki.

The Chairman of Sterling Bank and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21, 2024 Edo gubernatorial election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has presented his Certificate of Return to the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

The candidate presented the certificate to Governor Obaseki at the Edo House, in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Ighodalo had won the Edo PDP primary election last Thursday after defeating nine other aspirants who had contested in the election held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State.

Upon presenting the certificate to Obaseki, Ighodalo reiterated his commitment to repositioning Edo State as a leading sub-sovereign in Africa, if elected as governor.

He noted that he was confident of victory in the polls having canvassed for support among critical stakeholders in the party, including youths, women, the elderly and leaders of the party, who have expressed their support for him with the outcome of the election.

Noting that he was willing to work with other aspirants who are prepared to work for the victory of the party at the polls, he said he was reaching out to all to ensure that the party presents a united front in the run up to the election in September.

The governor congratulated him on his emergence and assured that the party was going to rally support among the people to ensure that it retains its seat in the Government House in Edo State.

*_…Guber candidate pledges to transform Edo to first world economy_*

Former Chairman of Sterling Bank Plc and Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21, 2024 Edo governorship election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, on Tuesday, received his Certificate of Return as the party’s flag bearer in the election, from the PDP National Working Committee.

The certificate presentation comes after he emerged winner of the governorship primary which took place last week Thursday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The renowned businessman, accomplished lawyer and boardroom guru, in a landslide victory, polled 577 of the 585 accredited votes to clinch the party’s ticket, defeating nine other aspirants including the incumbent deputy governor of the State, Philip Shaibu and Anselm Ojezua, among others.

He was accompanied to receive the certificate by the State’s Party Chairman, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi; former Deputy Governor, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe, and Senator Ehigie Uzamere, among others.

Presenting the certificate of return to the Edo PDP guber candidate at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja, the Party National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, said the PDP is one and that the party organized and recognized only the primary election which took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City and produced Ighodalo as its candidate.

Expressing confidence that the party will emerge victorious in the September governorship election, Amb. Damagum said: “Edo is an easy ride for us. We will emerge victorious. What we should be focused on now is uniting our party and bringing all stakeholders together to ensure we retain our seat at Osadebey Avenue.

“You have to put in your all going forward. I wish to use the opportunity to congratulate our party’s gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and wish you success as you go around the State during your campaign.”

He added, “The PDP is one and we organized and recognized only one primary in Edo which produced Dr. Asue Ighodalo. There are rules and guidelines in line with our party’s Constitution. We set up an electoral committee led by the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal as Chairman, and the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwhori as the committee’s Co-Chairman. They held the primary in a transparent, fair, and credible process which was live on several television stations. To the glory of God that primary election produced Dr. Asue Ighodalo as our party’s candidate.”

In his appreciation speech after receiving the certificate of return, the Edo PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Ighodalo commended all stakeholders of the party for their support, promising to transform Edo State to a first-world economy if elected as governor.

He said, “I thank our party members and leaders as well as other stakeholders of the party, especially the youths, who took me through the length and breadth of Edo State during my consultation to become our party’s candidate. I am extremely proud to be a member of this party. I also appreciate our women for their love and support. They carried me on their back from day one.

“I am grateful for the fairness and transparency of the national leadership of the party. I salute the National Working Committee (NWC) for the transparent and fair manner in which it conducted the primary election in Edo State. The MKO Abiola election of 1993 was the closest to what we recorded at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Thursday, February 22, 2024.”

Ighodalo further noted, “To the youths, it’s our time. By the grace of God and the will of the people of Edo State, we will run a government upheld by youths and with youths. Together, we will turn Edo into a state that everyone will be proud of.

“I will show leadership and direction. Our youths have promised that they won’t fail. We will show the rest of the world what we can achieve together as a people. We can become a first-world sovereign in Africa. I have seen the path and together, with your support and collaboration, we will achieve this.”

Urging for a united front ahead of the September gubernatorial election, Ighodalo stated, “I can’t complete this gratitude without acknowledging my co-aspirants, especially those who stepped down for me from the beginning of this process up to the day of the primary election, particularly Omosede Igbinedion who stepped down for me on the day of the primary.

“The contest is over. Let’s come together as one. We need to work together as one team. We must unite to retain our seat at Osadebey Avenue and drive the progress of our State.”

“I promise that this ticket is for all of us. I will take your advice; we will work together in the interest of our people. You’re all great men and women with varying capabilities and capacities. We will bring these capabilities together to move our State forward,” he added.

Godwin Obaseki: The Promise Keeper, “Adolor Of Esan Land

By Darlington Okpebholo Ray

Godwin Obaseki, Edo State Governor
“Consistency is the true foundation of trust. Either keep your promises or do not make them.”
― Roy T. Bennett

In the annals of political history, amidst the chaos and cacophony of broken promises and unfulfilled aspirations, a rare gem emerges – Governor Godwin Obaseki, the promise keeper.

His journey is not just one of political manoeuvring or administrative triumphs; it is a testament to integrity, equity, and fairness, particularly in his unwavering support for the quest for an Esan Governor in Edo Central. Reflect on 2020, when Governor Obaseki traversed the five local government areas of Esan Land, making a solemn pledge to the people.

He promised not just words but actions – to ensure that Esan would secure the PDP ticket and that an Esan son would ascend to the governorship of Edo state. Scepticism hung in the air like a heavy fog; many doubted the feasibility of such a feat in the labyrinth of political nonsense. Yet, Obaseki stayed resolute and stood firm, undeterred by the naysayers.

Just before the 2020 elections, In the crucible of political strife, Obaseki faced his trials. Denied his party’s ticket, he stood at the precipice of uncertainty. But amidst the storm, the unwavering support of the Esan Nation remained steadfastly behind him and ensured he emerged governor again.

The contemporary Esan Nation backed the illustrious Edo South son, taking him for his word, and Obaseki delivered true to his word. Indeed, Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki deserves a place in the annals of leadership and political history, his methodology ripe for study in institutions like the Institute for Democratic Studies and Harvard University.

With quiet determination and strategic finesse, he navigated the labyrinth of politics, pulling strings from the back end yet never breaking a rule. But words alone do not suffice; actions speak louder. Obaseki promised development in Esan Land, a region long deprived under previous administrations. And he delivered.

From the construction of vital roads like the Udumu-Iyasele Road, Ewoato, Ohudua/Emu Bridge, Eowhimi, Ujogba-Ogwa Road, Udumebo-Uhumudumu Royal Market Road, and Ekpoma-Iruekpen Road et al., to the rehabilitation of some schools and the establishment of basic amenities, his impact reverberates across the landscape of Esan Land. The promise keeper did not confine his vision to mere infrastructure; he ushered in a new era of administrative excellence.

As we stand today, we witness the tangible fruits of his labour, visible in the myriad projects dotting the landscape of Esan Land. Governor Obaseki’s commitment to Edo Central transcends mere political expediency. Despite pressures from various quarters, he remained steadfast in ensuring equity and fairness in power distribution. For too long, the seat of power seemed like an elusive dream for Edo Central, as democratic rule oscillated between Edo North and Edo South.

But Obaseki, the promise keeper, shattered those barriers, opening the door for Esan leadership. In light of his unwavering dedication and commitment to the development of Edo State and particularly his special in the political advancement of Edo central, I appeal to the whole Onojies in all the kingdoms of Esanland to unanimously confer upon Governor Obaseki the traditional chieftaincy title of “The Adolor of Esan Land” – the repairer of Esan Land.

It is a fitting tribute to a leader who has not just promised but delivered, whose actions have breathed new life into the heart of Esan Land. As we bask in the euphoria of Esan securing the gubernatorial ticket of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state and continue to appreciate Governor Godwin Obaseki, let us not only praise his deeds but also emulate his ethos – integrity, as well as his principles of Justice, inclusiveness, equity, and fairness.

His legacy lies as a blueprint for leadership, a testament to the power of keeping one’s word in a world fraught with broken promises and paying evil with good deeds.

Obaseki, the promise keeper, has shown us the way forward, lighting the path to a brighter, more equitable future for all.

I will not conclude this piece without a quote from one of “America’s top 100 Thought Leaders” and one of “America’s most influential Small Business Experts, Frank Sonnenberg, “Greatness isn’t determined by the number of promises that you make, but by the ones that you keep.”

"So since morning we have been going round. Now we are at 19th street, 18th street opposite UNIBEN we have also seen that the construction there is very massive and we also appreciate the deep the drainage that is being done at 19th street. Business / Obaseki Takes Steps To Tackle Price Hike In Edo, Meets Market, Trade Unions by Claire2023: 7:16pm On Feb 25
Obaseki takes steps to tackle price hike in Edo, meets market, trade unions, other Stakeholders

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, is taking steps to combat the current hike in food prices in the State, urging for the collaboration and support of all stakeholders to proffer lasting solutions to the incessant price surge and guarantee better welfare for the people of the State.

Obaseki met with relevant stakeholders including market associations, traders, and farmers’ unions, among others, at the Urhokpota Hall, in Benin City, to chart actionable measures to address the rising cost of living, particularly food prices in the State.

He said, “I called this meeting because of the cost of living in Nigeria as things are hard, especially the prices of food. The people can't eat anymore and as an administration, we can't just keep quiet but to act.”

Obaseki continued: “We have called this meeting to see how to solve this problem as trading blames will not lead to any solution to the serious challenges we are facing. All problems have solutions, and we are here to discuss and see how to solve this high price hike challenges facing us.

“You said trade unions are people fixing prices, but I don’t know how they work to achieve that in the market. I want to know how they fix prices. I thought it was demand and supply that controlled the prices.

“If we say unions are the problem then we must look at the unions and their activities and how to control them. We must set up a committee to check and look at the activities that lead to price hike. The committee will help us know if they are doing anything against the law.”

Obaseki noted, “This meeting shows that bad road has a role to play in price increment in our markets. I have been begging the Federal Government to help repair and fix the Ekpoma/Auchi Road since when Babatunde Fashola was Minister for Works but no results till now. I appeal to them to ensure contractors complete the road which has been on for over 30 years. I have approached Dangote and BUA to support us in doing the bad portion of the road because their trucks ply that route.”

Speaking on the measures put in place to address the hike in food prices, the Governor stated that his administration will support farmers to expedite efforts towards increased local production of food crops in the State.

The governor also promised to ensure adequate security for farmers to enable them to continue with their farming activities, while also reassuring the farmers that the government will fix their tractors and send them to their various local government councils to help them prepare for the 2024 farming seasons.

Earlier, Solomon Idiogbe, representative of the Edo Civil Society Organization appealed to the governor to help check the activities of Unions across various markets in the State as they significantly contribute to the rising cost of goods and services in Edo.

Also, Edo State Market Women Association leader, Madam Blackky Ogiamien, commended the Governor for his administration’s commitment to the welfare of Edo citizens, particularly in the area of security.

Also in attendance were: Secretary to Edo State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq.; Commissioner for Business, Trade and Cooperatives, Hon. “If we in Edo do not begin to show the right leadership that will begin to reset Nigeria, God forbid, we may all be in trouble. PDP is the only party that has what it takes to rule this Country. Again, we are showing the example in the way we are conducting our leadership selection process.”

He added, “We are following our rules very assiduously; my role as a host governor is to welcome all of you who are here, starting with our members who elected the delegates that are carrying out this exercise today. Thanks to members of the State and National Working Committee of our great party, the PDP for being steadfast in the rules. I also thank all the aspirants for exercising the spirits of sportsmanship.”

Politics / Edo 2024: Obidient Movement Is Now Ighodalo Movement In Edo By Mike O. Enahoro by Claire2023: 3:46pm On Feb 20
Edo 2024: Obidient Movement Is Now Ighodalo Movement In Edo.

By Mike O. Enahoro

There is a difference between the Obidient Movement and the Labour Party in Edo State. As we unveil The Ighodalo Movement for Edo People-TIME, we wanna prove a point...

You will recall that the former Governor of Anambra State who was a Labour Party Presidential Candidate during the 2023, H.E. Mr. Peter Gregory Obi was an Aspirant in the People's Democratic Party during the 2023 electioneering process. It was the unnecessary interference of some leaders in the PDP that caused the reason Peter Obi ported to LP. The majority of young Nigerians saw some visible leadership qualities in Obi as one who has excelled in his career part in the private sector. So, they started supporting Obi in the PDP. When he ported from PDP, the support became more massive and uncontrollable until it turned into an unprecedented Movement. The same qualities of leadership have been found in one of the Aspirants in PDP in the person of Barr. Asue Ighodalo.

It is no news that between November 2020 to August 2023, the level of camp politics in Edo PDP was very high. It was so high to the extent that those in Obaseki's camp avoided those in the Orbih's camp cum Legacy such that the Obaseki Government decided to be undermining everyone considered a Legacy member. During this trying period, whenever someone is brought forward from Obaseki's camp, good or bad, members of Orbih's camp will reject the person. The same thing goes when someone is brought from Orbih camp for any position either for elective or by appointment. This informed the reason the majority of the people in Obaseki's Government are from Obaseki until later 2023 when Asue Ighodalo was showing more commitment to Edo PDP. The visible coming of Barr. Asue Ighodalo to Edo PDP miraculously changed the narrative. Except for those just pretending, the issue of camp no longer exists in Edo PDP. This is how members of the Obidient Movement converted to the Ighodalo Movement in Edo State.

As a management expert, we knew that the Obedient Movement could not achieve its goal and mission because it was unplanned and unstructured. In a bid to ensure we do things differently and better organized to achieve our goal, mission, and vision, we decided to set up the Ighodalo Movement on a solid foundation but this time, we called it, The Ighodalo Movement for Edo People codenamed TIME. To develop the structure, we have set up the Board of Trustees-BoT, Central Management Team-CMT, and Local Government Area Management Team-LMT. We are working on the Ward Management Team-WMT and Unit Management Team-UMT. In no distant time, Ighodalo Movement will be unveiled to the world.

TIME is not attached to any political party. It's an independent system positioned to challenge the status quo. Whether you are in APC, LP, PDP, or whichever political you belong to, as long as you desire good and quality leadership, TIME is the place to go. TIME is a reorganized Obidient Movement in Edo State. If you truly believe in good and quality leadership, join us in The Ighodalo Movement for Edo People-TIME. It is going to be a bomb.

Watch out for the unveiling of Ighodalo Movement, TIME. Victor Hugo, a French poet and novelist once said and I quote, "Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose TIME has come." No force on earth can stop this idea whose TIME has come.

Politics / Obaseki Decries Dislocation In Nigeria’s Education System. by Claire2023: 12:11am On Feb 19
Obaseki decries dislocation in Nigeria’s education system.

…links inconsistency to irregular migration, human trafficking

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has decried the dislocation in Nigeria’s education system, linking the inconsistency to the high level of irregular migration and human trafficking in the country.

The governor, who spoke to journalists in Benin City, said his government is changing the narrative and has, over the past seven years, focused on reforming and strengthening the State’s education system using the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST).

He stated that the success recorded by his administration in the fight against human trafficking and illegal migration in the State is linked to reforms in the education sector as well as programmes and projects to equip and build the capacity of Edo youths to become globally competitive.

According to Obaseki, “Re-enacting basic education in the State has thrown up several issues and shows us the dislocation in our educational policies and how it's affecting the whole chain. The breakdown of our basic education is one of the root causes of irregular migration and has led to human trafficking in the State.”

The governor noted, “We embarked on EdoBEST to change the narrative. We decided to set up an education fund to encourage more students to go to school. We also focused on teachers to improve the learning standards. Five years on, we can now see a reversal and rapid improvement in learning outcomes.”

On efforts by his administration to transform the State’s tertiary education system following the success recorded at the basic and secondary education level, Obaseki noted, “We are committed to sustaining the revamp in our tertiary education system. All our local government areas have been connected with fiber as we have almost 2,000km of fiber across Edo State. It’s our priority that tertiary schools in the State are connected as it supports distance learning.”

He further charged, “We have to focus on what tertiary education should be and how we should rethink tertiary education to provide the manpower that we urgently need to improve productivity. We should wake up as a nation as our problem in Nigeria is not the exchange rate but productivity. We are not training our children to understand this and be productive.”
Politics / Edo Developing A Technological Workforce To Provide Innovative Solutions by Claire2023: 12:00am On Feb 19
Edo developing a technological workforce to provide innovative solutions to societal problems, says Obaseki.

The Edo State Government has said reforms in the State’s civil service, over the past seven years, are aimed at developing a new generation of workers equipped with the necessary technology and expertise to create and provide innovative solutions to societal challenges.

The government said it is developing a technologically savvy workforce and harnessing the power of technology to enhance performance across all sectors of the State.

The Edo State Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa spoke during a Design Sprint Showcase event held at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of Human Resources, Mr. George Igberase, the Edo Head of Service reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to establishing functional institutions that are capable and well-empowered to address societal needs.

Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and facilitated by the ACIOE Associates in collaboration with the Edo State Government, the Design Sprint exercise empowered over 150 graduates and officers from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within the State's civil and public service on the use of digital tools and processes to enhance service delivery.

According to Okungbowa, “The administration of His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki from inception set out to revolutionize the traditional way of doing things by focusing on revamping the civil/ public service of the State. One of the cardinal objectives of this goal was to create institutions that work.

“A look down seven years before now shows a period of unprecedented technological growth. The Government did not only embrace technology but adopted technology as a means of carrying out work processes in the service.”

He added, “One of the impacts of this is an improved and technology-driven workforce. Today, we are celebrating the achievements of some of our first officers in the service who now think, breathe, and speak technology. Today the officers will pitch their prototypes to us having gone through rigorous sessions of workshops and field work to identify challenges. They will also propose solutions that can be delivered through technology.”

In his remark, the Commissioner for Digital Economy, Science and Technology, Hon. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor expressed confidence that the solutions developed during the course of the event would be put to good use, adding that the execution of projects stemming from these solutions would propel both the government and the governed forward.

He noted, “We had this Programme for the last two weeks where civil/public servants in Edo State have been coming together to brainstorm to figure out solutions to some of the problems we have in Government and in our society. They were able to showcase competence and their knowledge in understanding possible solutions.”

Stakeholders from various ministries, departments, agencies, and private partners attended the Design Sprint event. It also garnered participation from top government functionaries, including commissioners, Special Advisers, permanent secretaries, directors, and executive senior staff from different MDAs to discuss potential challenges affecting the State and explore innovative solutions to addressing them.

Obaseki inspects ongoing Ekehuan Road Construction onstruction, Others.

…reassures on completion.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki led other government functionaries to inspect ongoing road construction projects in Ekehuan, Ugbiyoko and environs.

Speaking to journalists after the inspection, Obaseki, reassured on the completion of the construction projects before leaving office, noting that the road is very significant as it leads to Gelegele which is the closest point to the Benin Port.

Obaseki was accompanied by the Commissioner for Road and Bridges, Ethan Uzamere; Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, Kingsley Uwagbale and other top government officials.

According to him, “This is a very significant road, and the main road leading to Igbine, Gelegele, and the closest point to the Benin Port Project. Initially, we would need this road to move men and materials during construction to the Benin River Port.

“Subsequently, part of the Benin Port Project is to build a dedicated road to move traffic but between now and when the Port will be completed, this will be the major arteries. When we did our last survey, we had nothing less than 100,000 persons dwelling in this neighborhood as it's a highly populated area and these are our citizens. Hence, there is no reason why they should continue to endure the hardship caused by this road.”

Obaseki reassured, “Like I said, every major project I started, I will complete them before leaving office in November 2024.”

On his part, the contractor of the Ekehuan Road Project, Engr. Ighiere Duke noted that by October 2024, the road project would have been concluded.

He said, “We have started the earthwork and concrete work simultaneously and by the end of March 2024, asphalt work would have started. Our target is that by October 2024, anything about Ekehuan Road will be completed and commuters and residents living on Ekehuan Road will have reasons to smile and thank the governor for the work.”

Also, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Bridges, Ferguson Enabulele said concrete technology has been deployed in constructing roads in the State since 2016.

He stated, “When Obaseki took office in 2016, concrete technology was one of the technologies he used for road construction. It was used in Navies and Ogieva Streets Projects.

“From 2016 till date, Navies and Ogieva Streets have been intact. When we carried out the design of Ekenwan Road, we discovered that there are associated spot segments that have low line areas. The governor suggested the use of this technology which may last for a minimum of 70 years and we decided to use this technology for low-line areas.”

The Permanent Secretary added, “The technology is good and it may be used in the construction of other roads across the State.”

A resident of the area, Mr. Uche Nwanbuzo thanked the governor for the road construction project, noting that he is satisfied with the level of work.

A bus driver plying the Ekenhuan –Ring Road route, Mrs. Precious Nwango, commended the governor for his developmental strides across the State.

Politics / Governor Godwin Obaseki Remains The Best Gift To Edo Workers. by Claire2023: 2:09pm On Feb 16
Governor Godwin Obaseki remains the best gift to Edo workers..

Since some of you do not see payment of workers salary as an achievement, let me remind you that this is Cross Rivers State workers complaining seriously to the SSG of non payment of salaries and do you know that some federal civil servants are yet to receive January salary?

All these are issues burdening on the failures of the administration of APC. Cross Rivers State has never had it this bad until former Governor handed the state to APC. See the high increase in poverty, inflation and cost of living in the country. Nigeria has never had it this bad and it is very unfortunate.

Look at Edo State, under the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki, he prioritised the welfare of the Edo workers, carried out massive reforms in the civil and public service, improved working environment, paid salaries promptly and even to 13th and half months. No average Edo worker that has not felt the positive impact witnessed in the administrative reforms of the governor.

Yes, salary payment is an achievement and Governor Godwin Obaseki has earned the accolades. If you don't agree with me despite the little analysis, then you have a personal hatred for him. He will not be deterred as he continues to give better life to Edo People.

PDP administration under Governor Godwin Obaseki is performing excellently in Edo State and we must sustain the tempo by continuing praying for better succession and maintaining the great development witnessed under this administration. If we miss it this time, we may never get it right again. Support the development by standing with our progressive minds in transforming Edo State.

Edo must move forward 💯
