In some cases it might be that your hard drive is not fitted properly to it connector or the operating system is corrupt.

The best way to confirm if your hard drive is still in it place is for you to check the boot option.

If you're using HP, immediately you power on your laptop press F9, it will take you to boot option, your hard drive will be listed there, if it is there just install a new operating system and if it is not listed, check the hdd compartment.
