CHAPTER TWO It was a rainy day, Mrs Onojie wore a sullen face because the rain had prevented her from going to a debtor's house. The clouds were not bright either. It kept its face like an agonizing child. Mrs Onojie had also sent her daughter Amaka on an errand to deliver some drinks to Paddy. Paddy was a man who spent his earnings on drinks, he drinks to stupor. She was already getting worried that her daughter had not yet returned; it was already getting dark. Amaka walked down the street of Emenike, She was on her way to deliver some goods to her mother's customer. She was still trekking when a heavy downpour showered her with no mercy. Clutching her nylon bag she sought solace in a nearby building, it was a beer parlour with so many people drinking away their lives. Standing there for a long time, she realized that the rain was unperturbed. She thought of her brothers, they would be left alone in darkness in that stuffy house of theirs. "Hey, young girl giveme the nylon bag! " roared a voice. She was so shaken, the content belongs to someone and a hoodlum was bent on snatching it from her. "Please it belongs to someone" More boys from the bar came forth, they were a team of bad gangs who terrorized the area. "Nna eh, drinks full here o! " shouted one of the touts "see this small girl, release this bag jor" the other man snatched it from her forcefully. Amaka held her head with both hands, she wept profusely for her mother would kill her. She did know what her mother was capable of doing, she would definitely skin her alive. How would she explain this, her parents have never been the understanding type. After weeping, she had to choice than to brace herself and head home. It was already getting dark and their area was a dangerous one. She walked blindly into the rain and continued to walk that way. "This stupid girl, if you want to die find the nearest lagoon and jump in. You will not die in my hands. Idiot!" shouted a driver. Amaka realised that she has been walking in the middle of the road. When she got home, she could see Mama Nkechi and some of her friends who were also part of the tenants standing at the entrance. Mama Nkechi stepped forward "Amaka, where you go? Your mama dey find you? " Amaka stared at her, walked past her and walked into the compound. She knocked on the door severally. "who is that? " "it is me, Papa" The door opened and she got in, her two brothers were sitting on the ground playing cards. She noticed that her mother was not in the room. She wondered where she was at the moment because it was past eight and her mother was always at home by six. Little minutes after she had returned, the door creaked open and her mother hot in she was also soaked in the rain. "Jesus. Adaku, where did you go? " Her mother asked. Adaku could not even find the best tone to reply. She was terribly scared to the marrow. "ehm, Mama". Mrs Onojie tied a wrapper over her wet clothes. She was also confuse at the way her daughter was behaving. "Mama mere gi gini? (what did Mama do to you) Adaku got up from the only bed that succeeded in taking one quarter of the space in the house. "Mama, bad boys snatched the bag of drinks from me" she quickly went on her knees. TBC |
CHAPTER ONE "Since you have decided to grow extra wings, you will not cease to earn more beatings from me. Foolish woman! " Amaka could hear her father shouting again. This has always been the theme in their home. Amaka was already accustomed to the pattern her family lived. For the past fifteen years, the family of Onochie have lived as cat and dog. Mr. Onochie beats his wife at interval, Mrs Onochie was not perfect either, her witty tongue glided like a snake on daily basis. Their three children always watched them whenever the feud began. Amaka being the eldest was a very intelligent girl, at fifteen, she had the look of an eighteen year old girl. She took after her mother, a beautiful lady and a petty trader. Dubem and Chicken were the siblings of Amaka, aged 12 and 10 respectively. The family lived in a rural area in Port Harcourt, it was mainly a dirty and tattered area for yours and those who could not afford the fee for a nice and comfortable area. This place is called Diobi. They lived in a "face me I face you", a one room stuffy apartment. With a numerical tenants of twenty-five sharing a toilet and two bathrooms. Whenever the fight between these couple begins, the tenants rushed out to separate them. Even Mama Nkechi, the notorious gossip in the compound would rush out of her house tying just a piece of wrapper, for her, Mr and Mrs Onojie show was much more exciting than a telenovela series on television. Mr. Onojie, a watchman in a company was a stout man with a baritone voice. It was believed that even his three children shiver at the sight of him. He is a teetoler and also short tempered. "Was that the voice of Papa? " Chike who was sitting outside asked. Amaka nodded. She was already tired of separating her parents, it brought shame to her whenever she pondered the thought of her parents disunity. She wondered why they could not live as normal family in peace and harmony. "They just had a little misunderstanding , it will be over soon" She said to her little brother. Chike stared at her, this was the same word his sister Amaka always used to cover up Mama and Papa's issues. He has grown to know the truth, Amaka may think she has deceived him but she was wrong. Chike has grown to be wiser. Amaka could see the doubts in his eyes, She shrugged after all, they were old enough to know that their parents were pains in the butt. She got up and went into the house. |

Any one supporting biafra should be sentenced to death or fed to lions. This will gradually kill the evil ideology called Biafra. We hate biafra and it shall never come. The buratai military should invade the east and do the needful
