I would have almost agreed with yo, but.....
You are kind of wrong!
Yes, a capable leader could help and impact the people better. However, this is only possible if the political and economic system is structured to begin from the grassroots.
In Nigeria, the system is such that, governance begins from the top (federal level) and the benefits trickle down till it gets to the root (local govt level and the council wards each of them contain)
By d time it gets to this stage, there is absolutely nothing left. I can bet my left nut that in the next 20 years, no change will happen to this road, except there is a huge social media outcry.
You are right when you say that our structure is faulty, but it still boils down to greedy and corrupt leaders. I can tell you that the place where this road is located has a chairman and a councillor, and I can also boldly say that money has been allocated for this road. But one person knowing the pains this road causes will still keep the money. And that has nothing to do with the structure of our country. Let us start holding our immediate leaders accountable and stop blaming the executive for everything. That place has a senator, a house of reps member who receive more than 20m monthly. They will definitely have a commissioner and a state house of reps member. What are they doing about it? Are these people brain dead? Can't they see things for themselves? I am sure a place like this has been captured under constituency project, yet we will still blaming the executive.
There is no way we'll move forward with a mentality like this.

Desyner:
Thought the fact that the state governor is from that part will help bring the marginalization to a end speedily.
D fact that Jonathan is from d south south not help them and d north is still backwards even though they have ruled d country for longer. If a leader is capable, everyone would feel it irrespective of where they are located.

frustration will kill people like you, pilgrimage started before hand. and if you see the money that was siphoned by the previous administration because of this same pilgrimage you are trying to paint buhari black is incredible. Hatred kills bro wake up
You made zero sense.
The op is simply trying to rationalize d idea behind sponsoring pilgrimages that has no impact on our economy and you are talking about hate for Buhari. How does the point you just made correlate to the op's assertion?

Celebrities / Re: Akpororo Reacts To Yung6ix's DJ's Accusations About His Wife, Sex & Abortions by clevadani: 9:04am On Sep 08, 2017
HumanistMike:
The comedian knows he stands no chance in court.

In a counter suit, he'll have to prove in court yung6 has no hits which means, he'll have to define what a "hit" is. At that point, his defence will be "oh, I was just joking".

So he knows if he sues yung6's DJ and dude has difficulties proving his wife used to be a cheerful giver, the DJ will be quick to say "oh, I was just joking o. It's all entertainment" and that will be the end.

I'm glad the DJ gave akpororo a taste of the ills of his art. You can't cause someone emotional pain just to further your career. Don't try to fall people so you can use them as a ladder!

For those that feel the DJ went to far, I'll say this:
IN AN ALTERCATION, THE MOMENT YOU PUT HANDS ON A PERSON, ALL GLOVES ARE OFF. AT THAT POINT, YOU LOSE THE RIGHT TO NEGOTIATE A RETALIATION. IT WONT BE A CASE OF "I DIDNT HIT YOU HARD" OR "I HIT YOU IN SUCH N SUCH PLACE SO YOU GOTTA HIT ME IN THE SAME SPOT" NO! JUST BRACE YOURSELF FOR WHATEVER RETALIATION YOU GET.

Be smart yall!
You made zero sense. He is a comedian and he is doing his job. Though unsolicited, that advice is reasonable to every reasonable person. What do you mean by emotional pain? Is young6 a baby that he can't take a joke?
Seeing some replies on nl makes me SMH at times.

Most of these lecturers are as useless as our government. All they know is book, they don't know how to use the book to solve our various problems. We have so many professors of engineering, but they can't think of creative ways of solving our power problem. Lazy set of people.
All they do is sell handouts, some of them don't know how to teach. And they are lecturers because they didn't get jobs after graduation.
And until all the children of government officials are compelled to enrol their children in our institutions, our educational system will continue to suffer.

Politics / Re: Photos Of Oil Spillage In Niger Delta Communities by clevadani: 8:52pm On Aug 23, 2017
fratermathy:
Oil Spillage has become the sad reality of the Delta today. From the Western end of Ondo to the Eastern end of Akwa Ibom, oil spillage is a recurrent decimal.

In itself, oil spillage is not the problem because it can be cleaned and it is not unique to Nigeria. The problem, however, is the government's lack of interest in the plight of the poor fishermen and riverine dwellers of the Delta who have to face the reality of black oil on their land and waters. The oil companies pay little to no interest to these spills and even when monies are disbursed for cleanup, they end up on the stomach of the so-called Niger Delta leaders.

What about the militants that claim to fight for the rights of the people by blowing up pipes (and by extension causing more spillages)? Many of them have been bought off by the FG. The amount of money the FG spends to feed the ex-militants in a month is enough to clean up a large section of the oil spills in Urhobo/Isokoland. What are the militants doing about it now that their purses are full?

The blame for these spills goes to each and every one of us. To the government, for its negligence and blatant disregard for the welfare of its citizens who have to suffer the bitter taste of black crude, spilt over their water and land. To the Niger Delta leaders who eat the little money that may be used to satiate the plights of the jobless fishermen, farmers, and riverine dwellers who have nowhere to go. To the militants and agitators who use a genuine cause to enrich themselves at the detriment of the people they swore to fight for. To the average Nigerian who turns away from sordid images such as the ones on this thread; who rather pretends not to know what their fellow citizens are facing every day.

The Niger Delta is a mistreated and wealthy bride of Nigeria. She may not know her true worth now or have good leaders and agitators, but a day will come when the bride shall say enough is enough. When that day comes, Nigeria will stand still and see the evil its leaders and the oil companies have done against a once arable and ecologically rich region. No one, not even our closest neighbours, can help us. We alone have to break free of the chains we have allowed ourselves to be entrapped in.

One of the best post I've ever read on nairaland. The people I pity are the old and illiterate farmers, fishermen, and villagers who feel powerless against these powerful forces.
Bp was made to pay $54bn when there was oil spillage in the US. . But if it was Nigeria, our so called national and local leaders will go and beg d oil coys for $2mil and share it amongst themselves.

I find this post ironic.
One thing I've found out about Naija girls is that most of them are unreasonable. They don't know what they want.
Majority of them drive out good guys with good intentions and always complain about bad guys. My only reaction is to laugh.
