BusinessRe: Naira Appreciates To N498/$ As Reserves Hit $28.3bn by clickwtB(m): 10:41am On Feb 08, 2017
dammy13:
Having depreciated in value to N500 to the dollar at the parallel market, the value of the naira appreciated to N498 to the dollar, the value it had been trading for weeks or weeks, even as external reserves rose to $28.28 billion the highest in the year highest in a year.

The naira however remained stable at N305.25 to the dollar at the interbank market, on the website of the Association of Bureau de Change Operators; the naira was quoted at N315.38 to the dollar.

Demand for the greenback grew and the Central Bank of Nigeria rationed dollar supply, having sold $660 million in 3- and 5- month currency forwards at an auction aimed at clearing a backlog of dollar demand. Traders however said the dollar sale was not enough to satisfy the market.

Data on the website of the apex bank showed that the nation’s external reserves has risen by 7.89 per cent since the beginning of the year.

Traders said while the apex bank has been selling dollars on the official market to support the naira, dollar shortages were causing the naira to weaken on the black market.

Head of Africa Research at Standard Chartered Bank, Razia Khan said, “Despite rising foreign exchange reserves, it is the amount of forex that is supplied that matters.

CelebritiesRe: ‘Linda Ikeji Is A Dangerous Snake’, Omojuwa Goes On The Offensive On Twitter by clickwtB(m): 3:21pm On Feb 06, 2017
saints2:
Nigerian blogger, public speaker and social media expert, Japheth Omojuwa has called out his colleague, Linda Ikeji for sharing a personal story he told her with the purpose of shading him.

Omojuwa in a series of tweets on Monday accused Linda Ikeji who apparently was his friend of publishing the story of his friend and ex-fiancee on her blog.

He said he shared the story with friends he believes he can trust including Linda Ikeji and that he didn’t want to story out because it would embarrass her ex-fiancee’s mother, but Linda Ikeji went on to publish the story despite specifically telling her not to.

“When the ‘friend’ you shared your personal story with goes ahead to shade you with it on her blog, you know you trusted a snake!,” he said.

“Out of respect for my friend and now ex fiancée, I never shared the story of what happened between us publicly, but I shared it with some friends I felt I could trust. Folks @Chude , @DebolaLagos , @bellanaija and @lindaikeji and a couple of others.”

“Out of all I shared the story with, @lindaikeji was only 1 I realized I had to inform not to publish it without assuming she wouldn’t.”

“I told them all exactly what happened. Then in @lindaikeji ‘s case made sure to tell her not to publish via an email.”

“I didn’t want the story out because it would embarrass my ex fiancées mum. Even if we weren’t friends today, I still wouldn’t want it out.”

Omojuwa appears disappointed in her ‘friend’, Linda Ikeji because according to him, he has put himself on the line defending her and wondered why she cannot do same but expose his personal story through her blog.

“I have found myself putting myself on the line on Twitter when people attack @lindaikeji . I do that when I see the world against anyone.”

“Just about 2 weeks ago, I was even defending her sister when they went at her saying her marriage came too soon after her proposal.”

“I have seen @lindaikeji use the cover of Ben Bruce to share me on her blog. I never took it personal. I considered she was doing her job.”

“I have seen her take sides with Reno Wendell Simlin Omokri. I didn’t bother. Whatever she had going on with Reno wasn’t my business.”

“When she was accused of getting N240m from PDP/Jonathan during the election, I actually called friends in the villa at the time… and my friends told me as far as they knew, she didn’t get any money. I didn’t discuss anything with her. I simply posted tweets defending her.”

“Now, all of these are because I am loyal at times to the point of stupidity. On that day, I was swimming against social media tide, but you see, when it is on a matter concerning people I care about, I don’t mind swimming against any tide, social media or not.

Describing Linda Ikeji as a dangerous snake, Omojuwa is asking others to learn from his ‘temporary stupidity’ and never to trust someone like her.

“When someone’s trusted you with the truth, you don’t go ahead to post lies about same on your blog. That makes you a dangerous snake.”

“To see @lindaikeji hide under the cover of a twitter nonentity to shade me on her blog over a story I personally told her? Tragic!”

“So yeah, learn from my temporary stupidity to trust someone like @lindaikeji .Never trust a snake & they aren’t hard to know. Learn from me!”

Recalling how Linda had taking a shade on him in the past, Omojuwa said: “We do great stuff that she ignores. But when Reno Wendell Simlin and Ben Agbaya Bruce post weak shades at me, she gets to post them.”

“I don’t even mind that. I thrive in a “me against the world” environment. Pressure and enmity works for me. So I don’t mind that.”

“Against my intuition at the time, I trusted this one @lindaikeji and then told my intuition “I told her not to publish so we are fine.””

“My intuition was right as usual. I was stupid, unusual. Sad but useful lesson.”

“I didn’t have to tell Uche, Debola, Chude, Subomi, Musa, Mohammmed etc “don’t publish it” because my intuition was cool with me telling them”

He said there was nothing in his break up of his engagement that embarasses him, but that he decided to keep it away from the public because his ex-fiancee remains a friend whom he has had lunch and gisted in the last 3 months.

He also said he decided to keep it away from the public because he felt he will be very unkind to her and her mum by letting his “public figure” persona come back to haunt them.

“The circumstances of my engagement breaking up hurt both of us. We were in love from the beginning to the end. We never fought, there was no argument. No one was caught cheating.”

“I am fine with those who still insist they are now unfortunate because someone lost an election take shots at me. I live and thrive for that, but I refuse not to acknowledge @lindaikeji ‘s spear. I can acknowledge it because it didn’t pierce my heart. My intuition told me it’d come.”

CelebritiesRe: Southern Kaduna Killings: Audu Maikori Apologizes For Posting False Infor by clickwtB(m): 9:01pm On Feb 04, 2017
Danmas:
Chocolate City founder, Audu Maikori, has apologized to the College of Education in Gidan-Waya, Kaduna and the Kaduna State Government, for sending out false information about an attack on the school.
Maikori at the time claimed that six students of the school were killed by Fulani herdsmen, including his driver’s younger brother.

The College of Education released a statement denying the incident and Maikori faced a lot of backlash on social media, with many saying he posted fake pictures.
However, he has now published a retraction on his Facebook page and claims his driver, a certain Simon Joseph, misled him.
His statement in full:
“Following the statement by the College of Education, Gidan-Waya Kaduna and the Kaduna State government refuting the story that 5 students of the school were killed by Fulani herdsmen en-route to school on the 27th of January 2017, as reporter by my one Simon Joseph (my personal driver) I decided to further investigate the story to ensure that all the facts of the case and evidence were presented to the authorities.

My driver Simon Joseph had travelled to the village to attend his younger brother’s burial and on his return on Monday the 30th of January 2017, I asked him for pictures from the burial, the ID card of his brother and also pictures of the casket so I could submit to the authorities and he told me that he had phone issues so he could not store pictures on his phone. He told me however that his sister had the pictures on her phone and I proceeded to give him money to go to Ikeja to get the pictures from his sister, so I could have evidence. He didn’t return till evening, and when he did, he showed me some blurry picture of a male body which didn’t show the face of the victim. At this point I began to strongly suspect foul play. I again questioned him about the veracity of his story to which he swore on the bible that his brother was dead and even began to shed tears.
Not totally satisfied with the story I made contact with his referees ( who helped to engage him) and they didn’t seem to know about any death in his family . So on the 2nd of February, 2017 I went in company of his referee one Mr Dauda to the Lekki Police Station for questioning in the absence of his providing any concrete evidence of the death of his brother and fellow students(He clearly didn’t suspect anything at this stage). When we got to the station, I lodged my complaint and when he was questioned he maintained his story about the deaths were real until the police officers at the station threatened to arrest him . It was only then that he confessed and said he was just trying to collect money from me; that he knew that I was involved in the advocacy on the Southern Kaduna crisis and he thought that I after obtaining money for me for the fake burial expenses I wouldn’t cross check the veracity of his story. So he was duly arrested.
Following this development, I decided that the right thing to do was to issue a statement retracting the tweet which reported the killings of students of the College of Education as relayed to me by my driver. And I had no reason to doubt him due to the spate of killings in the area and because in the 8 months he has worked for me, he had never “lied” to me about anything or so I thought. Besides why would any right thinking human lie about the death of a sibling?
Consequently, I hereby tender an unreserved and sincere apology to the Management of the College of Education, Gidan Waya, His Excellency the Governor of Kaduna State and the Kaduna State Government, and also to the people of Southern Kaduna and the Fulani community and also VANGUARD newspapers whos source was my driver for the false statement by my driver which I also publicized believing same to be true.
This action is made even more imperative because I understand that as a leader in my community, my statements are taken seriously and shapes the narrative. But nothing is more important in leadership than owning up to mistakes honestly and with integrity regardless of the repercussions or circumstances.
I make this statement with all sense of responsibility, realizing that by admitting what transpired, people may begin to doubt my credibility and that of my statements in future… this is a risk I am willing to take but I would rather tell the truth about the situation than suppress it.
Besides this what is clear to me is that there are people who are simply just creating and concocting pictures and stories to deliberately mislead people , like I was misled. With benefit of hindsight I should have checked the story in detail but given that I am not a journalist or Police officer my experience in these matters are/were limited.
I must also seize this opportunity to plead with my brothers in Kaduna, regardless of ethnic or religious persuasion that the time to unite and fight for peace is now. This unfortunate situation is now actively being used by crisis opportunists, politicians and some unpatriotic elements to forge their personal or commercial agendas to the detriment of the peace and stability of the state. This must stop.
Instructively, it is important to note that nothing in my clarification undermines the fact that the lives of Nigerians citizens have been lost in the Southern Kaduna crisis rather it refers to this particular incident which I have verified to have been untrue and fraudulent.
The arrest of the arrest of 17 suspects with arms and ammunition in connection with the Southern Kaduna killings on the 3rd of February by security agents is evidence that our agitations are yielding fruit and to that end I commend the government on these arrests as well as many more in the nearest future.
To this end, I am even more resolved in this quest for the restoration of peace in Southern Kaduna and also working even more closely with the all the stakeholders to ensure that normalcy returns to Kaduna. What is however clear is that unverified facts , hate messages and ethnic stereotyping only exacerbates the issues ,they don’t help the pursuit of peace.
As I speak, my former driver Simon has been handed over to the police authorities. He is available to help the authorities with any further investigations.
Finally, all the people that posted#IstandWithAudu I appreciate the trust bestowed on me and hope I haven’t lost it.”

PoliticsRe: 15000 Youths To Welcome President Buhari From UK Vacation - NYCN by clickwtB(m): 2:54pm On Feb 04, 2017
Nnamddi:
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), says it has mobilised no fewer than 15,000 Nigerian youths to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, from vacation.

The President proceeded on a 10-day vacation in London on January 23rd and is expected to return to Nigeria on February 6th.

Malam Gambo Jagindi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President of NYCN, Murtala Gamji, made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Abuja.

Jagindi said that time had come for Nigerian youths, who are the future leaders of the country to show love, solidarity and support for the President, who is their current leader.

'The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has concluded arrangements to mobilise not less than 15,000 of its members to be at Abuja airport on Feb. 6, to welcome President Buhari from vacation.

“It is on record that integrity, discipline and honesty are gradually returning to our public life unlike in the past when impunity was the order of the day,’’ the spokesman said.

He berated those spreading rumours of death about the President.

He said: 'we all know that they do not have the interest of our country at heart and are only wishing to carry on with the looting of our treasury in the absence of our president.'

Jagindi said that Buhari’s assignment for Nigeria was not yet over, adding that only God could determine who lived or died.

He commended the president’s efforts to rid the country of what he termed, 'undesirable elements' who did not mean well for Nigeria and Nigerians.

He urged Buhari to continue with the good work as the youths of Nigeria were solidly behind him.

He noted that in spite of the 'corrupt mafias' working to undermine the anti-corruption war, Nigerian youths under NYCN would continue to support Buhari’s laudable programmes.

I am a fan of GEJ because he was a Democrat and pushed for peace and Unity but I was angry with him when the fuel price was increased without taking into consideration the masses and the way it was introduced without informing people. I condemned the move and protested against the price hike. I was not happy with him because it was a failing of the government to respond to the needs of the people and cushion the effect of rampant poverty.
The occupy Nigeria movement humiliated the government and made Gej reduce the price. Although it didn't go back to 65 Naira but our voices and activities against an unpopular decision made the government listen. That's what protest can do. I did not sit back because I was a massive GEJ fan or friend of Pdp rather it was my duty to whip the government back to shape to fulfill it's promise to the people and stop impoverishing them. That is what citizens must do to make their leaders accountable whether you support them or not. Government officials derive their powers from the people and it's the people that would force them to conform.
Now another occupy Nigeria is in front of us with the 2face backed rally on February 6th. With GEJ it was about the fuel hike and corruption in high places. With Buhari I don't even know where to start. Is it the hypocrisy of his anti corruption crusade or the lack of foresight on how to move the country forward? Is it the prevailing hunger killing everybody or a government that continues to destroy the economy but satisfies itself with blames and excuses? Buhari's economic sins are endless and it's making Gej's occupy Nigeria look like child's play.
This February 6th rally is long over due and if you are a true patriot it's necessary to come out enmass to let your voices be heard. It matters not if you are a Pdp or Apc supporter. Your wallet and stomach knows no party. Your generator and car fuel tank knows no party. Your kitchen gas or stove knows no party. The forex exchange that did not pass N215 since 1960 but has shot up to N500 in 18months under Buhari knows no party. It affects all of us whether yoruba, Ibo, hausa, ijaw, urhobo, fulani, efik etc.
The more you keep quiet and support a government that does not care the more the economy weakens because Buhari has not seen the anger and hunger affecting us. He increased fuel to 145 from 97 Naira but we kept quiet. Price of diesel has shot up 200% but we kept quiet. Forex increased from 215 to 300 but we kept quiet. It increased from 300 to 400 but we kept quiet. It has increased to 500 but some people are still saying I stand with Buhari. At what point in time would you sit down with Buhari? Is it when your family is starving and you are begging for crumbs with the forex at 1000 to a dollar? Right now the economy is stagnant but no reprieve anywhere.
Cost of living has increased but salaries have remained the same. If you run a business your cost of maintaining that business has increased 1000% fold but you are generating the same 2015 income or less. If you are working for a company, you work harder but your salary has remained the same since 2015 but your daily expenses has shot up 1000%. Where we put on this earth to suffer and stagnate or to move forward? Let's not talk about the millions that have been sacked because Oga cannot pay salaries or bills anymore. Has Buhari thought of how these people are surviving without any help or assistance? That's why people had to run to MMM to survive. If there was progress economically would millions of people throw their savings into it. This government does not give a rat ass about anybody. You are on your own.
Remember you control the government not the other way around. I support the 2face backed rally. You should also do that too so as to protect your family from impending doom and starvation.

PoliticsRe: We Promised Change And It Has Come - Lai Mohammed by clickwtB(m): 7:25pm On Feb 02, 2017
Amoyinoluwa24:
Nigeria’s minister of information, culture and tourism Lai Mohammed has admitted that the ruling party was overwhelmed with the level of madness, indiscipline and impunity in Nigeria.

According to him, the party was not prepared for the level of rot the administration met on ground when they came into power in 2015.

He, however, claimed that the change the ruling party promised Nigerians has started manifesting.

Speaking in an interview with Sun newspaper, he said: “Let’s look at it, number one, we promised change and that change has come. There is change today from impunity to accountability and it means a lot. There is a change today from corruption to integrity, it means a lot.

“There is a change today in the way people view corruption than the way they use to view it before. You will never live your flamboyant lifestyle again. In 2014 or thereabout when the former President went to Kenya, there were about 100 private jets that went with him.”

“What we did not know was the level of dirt and rottenness, the level of dirt and corruption is what we did not get. We knew things were bad but we did not know things were these bad. We did not know before we came in that there was no savings at all, we did not know before we came in, the madness and scale of indiscipline and impunity.

“ So if anybody says we are overwhelmed, yes we are overwhelmed but not by the work but by the level of rottenness and we want to clean this rottenness and this is what we have been doing. It doesn’t matter what vision you have but if you don’t have the money to execute, its as if you are doing nothing,” he said.

PoliticsRe: Osinbajo Outsmarts Buhari, provides new policy to arrest slump of Naira by clickwtB(m): 9:18pm On Feb 01, 2017
Jeus:
Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, in a bid to reverse the downward slump of the Naira against the Dollar, has ordered the Central Bank Of Nigeria, CBN, to harmonize the forex market, in a bid to have an organized official exchange rate platform, for prospective buyers.

The development, is coming at a time the CBN had been accused of having over five different windows, where customers source for forex which according to financial analysts, was responsible for the massive devaluation of the nation’s local currency.

As at yesterday, Monday, January 30, the naira exchanged at N498 as against N512 exchanged to a dollar few days ago in the black market.
According to Foreign exchange traders, the development is as a result of to relative scarcity of forex at the greenback market, as CBN is trying to harmonize the market in a bid to strengthen the naira.

In the official market, the local currency closed at N305/dollar, the level it has traded since August last year.

Meanwhile, the naira is expected to remain at N498/dollar at the parallel market (black market), as the CBN continues sales of the greenback, to Bureau De Change, BDC operators.

”Confidence is gradually returning to the forex market as a result of improved foreign exchange reserves, dollar sales by international money transfer agents and the central bank assurance it will continue to support the local currency,” a trader told Reuters.

As at last week Tuesday, the CBN said it would continue to provide hard currency, with priority given to manufacturing industries that need to import raw materials and spare parts.

Presently, Economic and financial analysts are slightly divided over the outlook for the naira this year, following Osinbajo’s directive.

While some are insisting that the federal government overhauls its forex policy, others are of the view that certain aspects should not be totally written off, but adjusted to meet international best practices.

A Nigeria-based investment bank and research advisory firm, Afrinvest West Africa Limited, has predicted that the 2017 economic outlook, might force CBN to possibly devalue the naira from its current official exhange rate of 305/dollar to around 400/dollar.

“If you think about the monetary policy environment, we think that the CBN will be forced by the market to make a change.
“Currently, the naira is pegged at 305/dollar; we see it moving towards 400/dollar by the end of the year,” the Group Managing Director, Afrinvest, Ike Chioke, said at a press conference announcing the firm’s economic outlook.

Economic expert and Chief Executive Officer of Cocosheen Nigeria Limited, Henry Boyo, had in his own submission said, if the CBN fails to review its monetary policy framework, the naira might crash to almost 1000/dollar, at the parallel market before year end.

Good, the way the economy has deteriorated, I'm sure even Buhari himself will join in the protest against his own govt.

It's time to ensure adequate security for Tubaba to avoid story that touches.

Zombies need to wake up and be patriotic for once, the planned protest is not against Buhari but against injustice, bad governance, oppression and everything evil.

I stand with Tubaba, I dunno about you
High level of stupidity is to suggest that PMB will join a protest against his own goverment!pls get a brain!
