Lithiumite: Those asking where is the subsidy savings? Roads are very important insfrastructure for economic development.....if its riad tinubu can get right in his first 4 years he should be encouraged, the next 4 years can be focused on other things. roads are indeed very important but not more lanes for tolling sake. |

spiSeyi: There's nothing like a roadside computer repairs and besides dem dey make money pass some bankers or even doctors. If repair no come you go sell laptops or accessories that stuff is a low-key passive income generator plus if you are well educated you can write proposals to ministries, MDAs, NGOs to train ppl for empowerment or even partner as service center or repair centers with some distributors In your Rice n Beans logic, income level can justify transforming someone who cannot define what computer or computation is, into an actual engineer. In Taiwan and USA where real semiconductor industry actually exists, there are also computer repairers there but they dont adopt your rice n beans logic of calling repairs of power circuitry within Personal Computers, Computer Engineering. Let me give you a clue. In the whole of Africa, there is not a single computer engineering company of repute. Repair is not engineering. If it was then the guy who repairs TV sets will be TV engineers ans study same in uni/poly Sound systems will sound system engineers. |

Goodvibes007: And Electrical/Electronics Engineers can still apply for any computer engineering job. So, whats your point exactly?
However, computer engr graduates applications would get bounced for a lot of other jobs that Electrical/Electronics engr graduates would still be eligible for.
It seems I got all these computer engineering graduates triggered. Sorry oo. I don't mean to Not in Taiwan or USA or China where actual computers are built. Maybe in roadside repair spots and banks/offices. |

Goodvibes007: I can't remember when I saw an Engineering vacancy specifically asking for computer engineer degree. It would likely be advertised as a job for Electrical/Electronics Engineers.
For a standard organization, ATS filter would likely screen you out, even before you make it to an interview. average 2026 car has over a dozen computers in them. Computer is not only PC or laptop or tablet. Anything that performs computation is a computer. There was mechanical computer before electronic ones emerged. Your brain is biological one. |
Education › Re: Is Computer Engineering A Good Course To Study In Nigeria by CodeTemplar: 9:33pm On Apr 30 |
Goodvibes007: Yeah. My colleagues working in Samsung and AMD hold degrees in Electrical/Electronics not Computer Engineering.
My point is that you don't need a degree in computer engineering to work as a computer engineer.
Go for a more general course that makes you more versatile and open more doors of opportunities. Don't narrow yourself to computer engineering from the get go, which some universities even still classify as a course under Elect/Elct. Maybe your colleague is in charge of changing from generator to Taiwanese/Korean NEPA. Lol. I hope you work where your colleague works. |

rottenPussy: I would say study electrical engineering, then pivot to computer engineering for your postgraduate. Reason being that electrical engineering is by far the most immune career to AI, and computer engineering is only a subsection of electrical engineering. Mr man, EE is engineering (design) and thus just as prone to AI interference as all other fields. PCB Netlists, actual circuitry, casing models can all be greatly aided by AI. Maybe the EE you meant was roadside repairers who swap out components and ICs. Those quacks who appropriate title like traditionalists. |

BabaO2: Even if you are a 1st class "Power and Electricity " graduates, it is nothing as a minister. You only need the best human resources coordinator/financial expertise. High level communications does not get to the directors not to talk of ministers and the presi dent Thats a lie. Accountants are clerical roles barely spanning into management. How will accountant flow when they start converting kwhr into cost components and more? How will accountant relate to economics of scale concept? How will accountant relate to optimization of power cost thats only thought in engineering and economics in most nigerian schools? In engineering there are over 100 different binary operators but an average accountant only relates to less than a dozen. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, equality, greater/lesser than. Omo, accountant/finance/BA is just going there to get humilated. A |

kunle4toyeyaho: The problem of that sector is more of financial than technical. To make impact in that ministry, you need someone with very solid background in finance.Wasn't it money issue that led to non-sipply of gas? Wasn't it debt being owed that was recently renegotiated to N2.8trillion? Is the payment plan of over 3trillion to GENCOS not money -related? So,a financial expert can be more impactful in that ministry than an engineer. This your rice n beans logic is laughably stupid at best. I am sure in your reasoning accountants should run Nigeria from LG to FG because there are lots of money issues in all MDAs and govt units. |
