Nigeria's economy is dead, so your analogy is rather invalid. But that being said, the keypoint I tried to raise is that in that industrialised nation, for every 1 lathe machine design specialist, there are 1000 fitters/machinists.
The inability of the black man to separate design(engineering) from maintenance, operation and repair(technician role) is an intellectual pandemic.

In the world of AI, automation and control, we're looking for more iron benders and bricklayers

Who do Africa like this?
The way Oshiomole phrased his idea is the issue here. We need more iron-bending and brick-laying graduates. The knowledge in university and polytechnics is suppose to end up helping to get the real job done faster and better. There are 3D printer for houses and structures that are fast evolving. Thats exactly like laying bricks but in an advanced form.
He spoke in principle. We need more of hands on apprach to our problem.

States with a lot of oil, like Rivers or Delta, would keep all the money made from selling oil in their area.
States rich in agriculture, like Kebbi or Plateau, would keep all the money from farming products.
States with industries, like Lagos, would keep the taxes from businesses in their state.
The northern states as things are today do depend on South-south money for farming input. Over N1 trillion goes towards agric each year and thats largely towards the north. They will resist any change that threatens that.

We were made to understand that using FX to import fuel puts a strain on our exchange rate

Now Dangote and PH refinery are taking care of our internal demands with little or no need for importation using forex,

HOW COME DOLLAR RATE IS STILL OVER 1.7k Naira?
the supply of dollar almost equally dropped as the crude volume being sold to provide petrodollar reduced. As soon as dangote repays his loans and exports to earn dollar, dollar supply will start increasing against demand and prices will likely go down as Naira strengthens.

Another angle is local priduction of PE parts and produces. The raw plastic matwrial coming out of dangote refinery can be used to power small engineering industries. Production of household plastic items. Electronics casing n parts, kitchen utensils, furnitures, interior decor, agric kits, car parts, toys, and more. Imagine producing them locally and exporting to earn your profit in dollar. That leaves peoppe with more dollar/forex to sell or supply against dwindling demand.

BUSTED! ‘We Don’t Want to Demolish Adeleke Secondary School’ – Technical Committee
Justifies Relocation of Ido Osun Airport to Ede

The Osun State Government’s Technical Committee on the state’s proposed airport project has justified the controversial decision to relocate the project from Ido Osun to Ede, citing technical and logistical reasons. The committee emphasized that the relocation was necessary to meet global aviation standards and dismissed allegations of nepotism. Addressing journalists during a press briefing in Osogbo on Wednesday, Mr. Lai Oriowo, a member of the committee, explained that one of the primary reasons for relocating the airport was to avoid demolishing Adeleke Secondary School, which is located too close to the runway threshold at the Ido Osun site. Oriowo highlighted several technical deficiencies of the Ido Osun site, including its insufficient land size, inadequate runway length, and the poor placement of critical infrastructure. “The existing runway at Ido Osun is only 1.67 kilometers long, far below the minimum requirement of 4.8 kilometers for a standard airport. For a Class 4E aircraft, the required length is 3.6 kilometers, with an additional 750 meters on both sides for the Runway End Safety Area (RESA), bringing the total to 5.1 kilometers. However, the available dimension at Ido Osun is only 3.25 kilometers,” Oriowo explained.

This Adeleke is a clown of the highest order. If Ido runway is too short, extend it. Doing an unviable project halfway in Ifo then relocating to Ede is very daft idea at all levels.

Good points you have raised.
But thats the whole neo-colonization we are talking about.
Keir Starmer (prime minister) was recently accused of collecting more than 100k pounds in gift. Which he quickly had to account for.
But the british authortieis look the other way when our politicians come to North London to purchase houses that cost 5 million pounds, knowing fully well their salaries are not even up to 1000 pounds.
The day Keir Starmer buys a house in Maitama above his salary and income he will be removed from office in less than 24hrs.
Thats cos we allow corruption here. Drug dealer from all over the world buy houses and properties in Dubai ad UK. It is largelyy up to the african countries being looted to put their houses in order. As a family man, if your subject steals from you and keeps it somewhere or spends it, do you arrest the person that was patronised after robbing you or the person who robbed you? Simple logic. You are trying to stair sentiment against the UK and not being logical with you facts.

PoliticsRe: UK Can’t Handle The Influx: Kemi Badenoch Promises Tougher Immigration Crackdown by CodeTemplarr: 8:17am On Nov 28, 2024
malali:
The speech you provided is a classic example of political doublespeak designed to deflect responsibility while reinforcing divisive narratives. Let’s delve into why the premise of Kemi Badenoch’s stance on immigration is deeply flawed, hypocritical, and devoid of historical accountability.

Critique of Hypocrisy

1. The Colonial Irony
Badenoch’s speech conveniently ignores the UK’s colonial past. For centuries, Britain invaded, plundered, and destabilized countries across Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean, stripping these nations of their resources and using their labor to build its wealth. Now, those displaced by centuries of exploitation seek opportunities in the very land that grew rich at their expense, and suddenly, the UK declares its inability to “sustain the numbers.” If you loot someone’s home, don’t be surprised when they come knocking at your door.
2. Exploitation of Cheap Labor
Britain and other Western nations have long benefited from exploiting immigrants for cheap labor. From factory workers to nurses and cleaners, immigrants have filled gaps in labor markets where locals refuse to work. Badenoch fails to mention how industries like healthcare, agriculture, and construction would collapse without immigrant labor. The same immigrants she chastises for “overburdening public services” are the ones staffing those very services.
3. A Caricature of Herself
Kemi Badenoch, a Nigerian-born immigrant herself, is being used as the messenger for this harsh rhetoric. It’s a political strategy to shield the Conservative Party from accusations of racism. By deploying a black woman to champion anti-immigration policies, the Tories hope to soften the blow of their exclusionary agenda. Instead, Badenoch appears spineless, betraying the very immigrant community she represents in a desperate bid for relevance within a party that has historically sidelined minorities.
4. Selective Memory on “Humanitarian” Immigration
Badenoch cites exceptions for Ukrainian refugees and British overseas nationals from Hong Kong as justifiable forms of migration, conveniently sidestepping the racial undertones. Refugees from predominantly non-white regions like Syria, Sudan, or Afghanistan often face higher scrutiny, harsher policies, or outright rejection. The inconsistency reeks of racial bias masked as policy.
5. Integration Myths
She blames immigrants for the supposed lack of integration while ignoring systemic barriers erected by the government itself. When you demonize migrants, limit their access to resources, and segregate communities, how can integration succeed? Her claim that immigration frays the social fabric is an excuse to cover the failures of successive governments in creating inclusive policies.

What Kemi Badenoch needs to focus on.

• Public Services Mismanagement
If public services like housing and healthcare are struggling, it’s because of chronic underfunding by successive Conservative governments, not because of immigrants. Badenoch’s party has spent more than a decade cutting budgets while blaming the very people propping up those services.
• Economic Benefits of Immigration
Studies consistently show that immigrants contribute more to the economy in taxes than they take in benefits. They are entrepreneurial, innovative, and integral to growth. Ignoring these contributions perpetuates a false narrative.
• Global Accountability
The UK is part of a global system that perpetuates inequality, often through exploitative trade practices, environmental degradation, and foreign interventions. Migration is not the problem; it’s a symptom of global injustices that countries like Britain helped create.

Badenoch’s speech is a desperate attempt to distract from her party’s failures by scapegoating immigrants. It’s like a landlord blaming the tenants for the roof caving in when he never repaired it in the first place. Her policies promise to reduce immigration, but they risk gutting the very workforce keeping Britain afloat. Instead of demonizing those seeking a better life, Britain should confront its colonial legacy, invest in sustainable policies, and treat immigration as the opportunity it truly is.
Which is greater, the wealth the british empire got from former colonial subjects or the ones the former colonial subjects have taken to Britain after independence?
Throughout history, stronger empires have done far worse than what britain did to those they colonised. Can you run to the rich Arab countries and talk this nonsense?
