Education / Growth Strategies For Schools by cole265(m): 8:58am On Nov 24, 2015 |
An overall goal for school growth should be aimed at achieving the school’s vision and mission statements. It is noticed recently, that most well meaning school’s vision and mission statements are obviously directed towards producing and developing confident, well rounded, successful global citizens. This surely is a desire of the 21st century education. School proprietors’ growth strategy should therefore start with working earnestly and vigorously towards advertising and achieving their laudable vision and mission statements. Success in the advertisement will attract the fancy of the majority (prospective parents and students) who will show interest in knowing if the school can “work the talk” or is “working the talk”. Growth strategy for schools should therefore hinge on:- i. Advertisement: to attract the majority (Prospective parents and students). ii. Achievement: demonstrating the ability to “work the talk” (to live the vision and mission statements) Advertisement and consolidation strategies: (continuous but more intense in the first and second year) • Attend and participate corporately in most education fairs locally and abroad • Adopt and partner with lots of upcoming and established primary schools. • Attend or be represented at primary school’s graduation, founders’ day, sports day etc. prizes and awards could be donated in the name of the school. (…for secondary school owners) • Make contributions and statements to topical national and international issues, especially on education. • Host educational events and activities such as sports, cultural displays, debate and quizzes on the school ground that will attract lots of visitors to the school. • Hire out school facilities for corporate groups, society or associations to organize events such as interviews, examinations, meetings, tutorials, etc • Become very active in the AISEN (Association of International School Educators in Nigeria) sports, cultural and other activities. • Organise school trips within and outside the country • Participate and register students for competitions in all areas of education within and outside the country. • Partner with various associations of Nigeria communities all around the world. Attend their functions. Achievement and consolidation strategies: (starts from the first year and is intensified through to the fourth year) Growth strategy with regards to achievement is categorized into four key areas. Each category is detailed into developing the various related topics as listed below. • Pupils / Students: i. Admissions: - a well structured admission system with a full school enrolment for all classes. ii. Behavior: - create a code of conduct which will set very high standards of behavior for pupils. iii. Welfare:- ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils iv. Administration / records:- develop the effective management of pupils and the administration of pupil records v. Boarding: - ensure the success of the hostel boarding arrangement • Programme / Curriculum i. Core instruction and Assessment:- each subject should be organised and structured to ensure compliance to the school’s policy of standardisation ii. Support and Extension: - to develop a coherent and effective subject led intervention and improve provision for students with learning variances. iii. Learning areas:- each subject will be motivated to be the expression of the vibrant curriculum iv. Promotion, retention and rewards: - to ensure pupils highest levels of achievement is attained. v. Co-curricular: - to fully develop pupils’ skills, values, capacities and interest beyond the classroom. • Physical building / Facilities i. Buildings: - ensure that the buildings and the facilities are clean, functional and aesthetically pleasing. ii. Facilities and resources: - to establish refurbishment and improvement of teaching and learning centers. iii. Transport: - ensure the functionality, safety and aesthetics of the school transport system • Personnel / Manpower i. Employment practices: - develop strategies to recruit and retain high quality staff ii. Job descriptions: - create clear job roles and lines of accountability iii. Employee disciplines and rules: - ensure that the conduct of all staff is exemplary to the pupils and the community. iv. Employee Appraisal policy: - develop a rigorous appraisal system v. Staff development: - to offer staff high quality, relevant, continuous and professional development 2 Likes 1 Share |

Culture / Did The Igbos Truly Originate From Isreal (jew) Or From Ile-ife? by cole265(m): 11:30am On Nov 23, 2015 |
This is a personal investigation and study. After careful consideration, I came up with this possibility of the Igbo’s actually originating from Ile-Ife. Many historians, philosophers, sociologists, archaeologists and anthropologists have raised a lot of dust on this issue. A lot of views have been proffered but yet the origin of the Igbo’s remained a mirage. A book by Dr. Elizabeth Isichei titled “History of the Igbo People” talked about an elderly Mbaise man from Imo State of Nigeria, who maintained that the Igbo’s did not come from anywhere. But the fact remains that the Igbo’s must come from somewhere beyond the limited knowledge of the Mbaise elder. Another claim seeks to establish that the ancestors of the Igbo are originated from the area they inhabit, presently known as Awka-Okigwe. Hence, the communities known as Umu-Nri regard themselves as the descendants of a hero called Eri, who along with his wife, Nnamaku, was sent down from the sky by Chukwu, the Igbo supreme God. This is very similar to one of the claims associated with the origin of the Yorubas and the coming of Oduduwa who was let down from heaven by a chain. No doubt, you will agree that these claims sound just like fairy tales and unbelievable. Majority of Igbo’s are satisfied to accept the Israel (Jew) hypothesis. This assumption however is begging for support by testimonies of oral tradition and archaeological evidence. The origin of the Yoruba on the other hand with a similar theory clearly makes sense, as it is believed that their primary descendents, the Odudua, came from Egypt. This assumption is based on the resemblance of the sculptures found in Egypt and the sculptures found in the mythological center of Yorubalnd, in the city of Ife-Ife. Based on my careful contemplation, it is safe to postulate that the Igbos were part of the original inhabitants of ile-Ife before the arrival of Odudua. So much similarities in the language; take for instance, The mouth in Igbo is called “onu” in Yoruba it is called “enu”, The nose in Igbo is called “imi”, in Yoruba; it is called ‘imu”, The hand in Igbo is called “aka”, in Yoruba; it is called “apa” So, so, so many similar words....this can’t be mare coincidence! Certainly not all the original in habitants of Ile-Ife and it’s environ before the arrival of Oduduawa from Egypt accepted him. Surely, some revolted against the politics, religion and the eastern civilisation brought by Odudua. They therefore receded into the bush (hinterland) away from the reach and influence of Odudua’s culture. These set of people were nicknamed the Bush people – “Ara Igbo” which eventually became the Igbo’s. As the Odudua land expands, the “Ara Igbo’s” further retracts into the hinterlands until they now occupy the place none as the Eastern Nigeria. This is not an intension to undermine any tribe, but simple thoughts to try and solve the riddle of the Igbo origin. It is also to highlight the fact that the Igbo’s and the Yoruba’s have very close linkage and are true brothers and sisters. 1 Like |
