PoliticsRe: Tinubu May Agree To Some Conditions By Governors On Tax Reform Bills — Bwala by coleon(m): 8:58am On Jan 08, 2025
nwirinedu:
The tax reforms will further impoverish people, PAYE will be on the high side for employees, overheads will increase for organizations, daily household incomes will deplete because of the increased costs in utilities due to the 10% VAT starting this year.

The gainers are those who are exempted from the tax law.
A lot of people are even ignorant of the content of the tax bill, they only think the bill is something to trigger the north due to sharing formular proposed. The main thing that affects them which is what you listed, they are not paying attention to it.
How can the government be planning to increase vat to 15% in an economy where purchasing power of the citizens is almost eroded?

Lithiumite:
Then you must be unintelligent enough to know that currency devaluation and lack of capacity to produce enough is what's driving up food prices.....the same govt that was in power when rice was 12k....go and check how much that govt met the price of same rice.
Who is responsible for the currency devaluation and lack of capacity you alluded zombie?
A government met dollar at 500 and now it's 1600, so whether it's directly of indirectly the government is still responsible and totally accountable. I hope you can see, you are the unintelligent and daft one here and not the person you quoted.

The state government owns the land, what are they doing with it.

Hold your Governors responsible for some actions.
The Governors collect monthly allocations and own the lands. Stop focusing on the FG skins to solve all your problems.
You must be very daft to be quoting things out of context just to divert blame from your God Tilumbu. When the minister appointed by Tilumbu was making the promise, he didn't know that state government owned the land then abi?
If your attempt is to shift the blame to state government, what then is his function as minister of agriculture? It means he should not even have any office in the first place if we are to go by your logic since you are absolving the federal government of any blame. Mumu zombified human being.

They could not unite to defeat the candidate they assumed they could defeat, but they can unite in solidarity.

That tells you why they lost.

As for Atiku's defence of Mahdi Shehu, where was Atiku when Mahdi Shehu shared an old video from 2013 to spread a propaganda that Nigeria had allowed French to set up a military base in Nigeria?

Dear Atiku, Peter Obi claimed his family and himself were threatened. Did you even bother to ask him what kind of threats were issued?

You are a statesman. Act like one and call for calm, not make fiery comments for political expediency.
My worry is not even about what you posted but about the ronuists/agbado posts always getting the same amount of likes.
I think Seun should be wary of various parody accounts and BOTs used in generating this likes to make ronuists feel good with themselves.

I don't give a Bleep about Obi or any politician, my response is on the message and not on the messenger. Besides the last time I checked Obi is not the president neither is he holding any political posts so he can afford to go to anywhere he likes to get his treatment. My interest as a Nigerian and who I will hold accountable is the president so he should practice what he preaches.
Obi can go to hell as far as I'm concerned, Obi does not owe you any obligation, who you should hold accountable is the one leading you.

Obi is the dullest presidential candidate in Nigeria history ☹️
In what way please explain? What he said actually makes a lot of sense, how do you understand the problems if you don't use the facilities here in Nigeria. You budgeted Billions for state house hospital but when you have just a toothache you rush to France and later come back to tell Nigerians to patronise local product to help the naira.
Is that not the height of hypocrisy from a government to it's people?

Are you for real? Refineries that have not worked for decades! Thank God Tinubu is receiving them now. No matter how harsh, we are now eating our rice, rice produced in Nigeria. Since Obasanjo who tried to reposition the economy, no other person has done much. The criminalities we have today is because, people are jobless and there are plenty jobs in Nigeria that are crippled by bad leaders.
You will say you are just eating your own Nigerian rice and don't generalize,Nigerian rice has been available since the days of Abakaliki stony rice for over 40 years or more now and it was far cheaper than the foreign ones.
If your reference is to the non stony Nigerian rice then it still did not start from Tinubus government , it was started by Jonathan's rice revolution, continued by Buhati and not Tinubu at all, I recall Ambode and Kebbi state govt in Jonathan's time coming up with Lake rice and the price was then far cheaper than the imported ones, it's only in Tinubu govt that we have Nigerian rice that is now at same price wit foreign rice and it's not something to be proud of at all.
It's the same way you are attributing refineries that Buhari paid fully for it's rehabilitation to Tinubu, the funny thing is while Tinubu himself is praising Buhari for fixing the refineries, his zombies like Reno and the ones here on nairaland are praising him for the refineries. You zombies should stop clinging at any straw to praise your master and attributing things he has no clue of to him.

kayperry:
Sometimes when you listen to them speak, even if our present LU is full of dropout dont they consult and ask experts

How can any graduate be proposing incessant minimum wage increase as a messure to catch up with inflation

A serious country's inflation index should not be more than a digit, Nigeria is on 35 trying to catch up with that is like using thunder sound to cover bomb noise ...exactly

what we need are sincere efforts to wind down inflation @top priority, ensure naira stability and value ... Nigerians can enjoy a 20k minimum wage even beta naa currency value be koko

I prefer the days 30k can buy a bag of rice and workers still have enough to go to work than a 150k minimum wage at these time
You have made an excellent point which is only applicable in theory but not practical. Do you think a bag of rice will ever come down to 30k again , or petrol reduce to 500/litre ever again? That's the main problem here which you and I know the prices will never get reduced again .
Now if we all admit that the prices of basic items will never go back to the way it was, then why will you expect the workers wages to remain the same, take for instance I fuel my car 50k weekly to work now and that's 300k monthly on fuel alone but my salary remains what it was in january.
If my fuelling cost and other things have increased and there's no hope of it reducing again, why will you expect my salary not to increase to match the attendant inflation that has ruined my salary?
Mind you,the government herself pegged the 2025 budget at an exchange rate 1500 to a dollar so don't expect the price of anything to reduce from what it is now cos it can only go up further.

GeneralPula:
Floating the naira is the best for naira. It’s even one of the best way to manage inflation. Atm, it’s supply & demand that’s determining the worth of naira. If Nigeria can start exporting more, inflation would get tamed!

And I believe that with time, Nigeria will find it fit into exporting more rather than importing anything & everything..
It's like putting the cart before the horse , when you know you are unproductive, why don't you get productive and start the exportation first before the floating.
Currency devaluation is good for an export economy not Nigeria, take South Korea and china for example. Now purchasing power is eroded in Nigeria and companies are making losses and closing down due to the hyperinflation in the economy.

So, increasing More Salaries is the Solutions to Inflation, abi,as far as NLC is concerned?
Anyway,he de play,as Nigerians, have seen now, that Labour Leaders are clueless!
We de wait their Cruise!
So what exactly is your own proposed solution then? Workers should accept things the way it is when it's obvious the present salary cannot take them home? Do you know I spent 50k on fuelling my car alone? In a month thats 300k on fuel alone, what happens to feeding, taking care of my family, paying house rent etc.
Salary should be increased , when inflation increases, salary increases again and the cycle should continue.
The government cannot be feeding fat while we the workers suffer.

Stepper ni… and handover to who? Obi? The man who isn’t fit to lead an LCDA in Lagos where LCDA chairmen are building housing estates, schools and roads that are better than anything he ever did in Anambra

Tinubu has legacies other governors have built on in Lagos. He developed the road map for rail, Eko Atlantic, the Lekki FTZ which we can all see manifesting today

It takes a bold leader to do a quarter of the things PBAT has done

Anyone with an understanding of Economics can see that the reforms are yielding results

Jagaban will fix Nigeria

Even Obi and Atiku have had little to say about the economy any longer except times they just want to appear relevant

Make yourself available for the consumer credit scheme for purchase of made in Nigeria cars when it becomes available this quarter if that’s what you want

There are several opportunities under this administration
This should be the biggest joke I have read in 2025 and yet it's just the first day of the year. So you are saying this economy that you are seeing with your own korokoro eye that you are not been told is doing fine and very well that Obi and Atiku are also praising it. An economy that has 35% inflation rate that has eroded all purchasing power of the citizens, an economy that the currency performed as the 3rd worst currency in the world losing over 200% of it's value within a year, an economy that saw energy costs which is the primary factor for production increased by over 400% in less than a year is the one you delusional APC zombie is praising like this.
To say you people have made me give up on Nigeria because of your psychophancy is an understatement I swear.

* Many of those crude oil you mentioned are already, sold out as a debt during Buhari, and it's a must for Tinubu to obey agreement.

*If Govt sells everything in Naira, where would Nigeria gets enough dollars to fund his projects that need dollars to fund.
You are only addressing the symptoms and not treating the root cause. The main problem I see here is low production, our crude oil output should be ramped up to about 2.5m bpd to meet local demands and external obligations, that way we won't be in this mess. How Nigeria an oil producing nation will not be able to meet 450k barrels allocated for local production is very embarrassing despite all the billions of dollars nnpc has pumped into oil exploration in the north and bonga field.

We don't really care about Stock Exchange, what we care about now is improving life not chasing stock exchange.
The average South African will accept an improved life right now in place of a huge stock exchange.
Are you in any way insinuating that the average Nigerian enjoys better quality of life than a south African with this stupid comment you just posted ?
Google is your friend and you may take a quick check before spewing your ignorant comment to show how shallow you are. Life expectancy - Nigeria 59.93 , South Africa 61.73; minimum wage Nigeria - 70000/month, South Africa- 27.58rand/hour(equivalent of NGN2266 or NGN1.65M/month), electricity Nigeria- 7000MW, South Africa - 59,700MW.
Yet a delusional APC zombie, who as usual only spew rubbish to masturbate with his fellow zombies is comparing quality of life in Nigeria to South Africa when there's definitely no basis for comparison at all.

The reality out there is that hunger has aligned everybody together against this government, whether I go to a bar to drink, or we are discussing politics in my office or anywhere at all. I am yet to find a single person still supporting APC or Tinubu, it's always curses and abuses that people on the streets use to follow the government and I stay in Lagos which is more of a Yoruba state . So you can imagine how nobody cares about tribe or anything again because of hunger and hardship in the land, it's only here on nairaland that I still find Tinubu supporters who probably are paid 30k monthly to do the dirty job and create multiple accounts on nairaland.

I always laugh when I see agreements signed on paper without any implementation plans or execution strategy. What became of the one Buhari signed before that did not yeild anything.
As a foreign trade expert, this would have been a fantastic move if there's a clearing house and settlement bank created for this purpose. The CBN will go to sleep after signing agreements on paper without any clearcut implementation strategy and create further confusion like the one Buhari signed.
