The Department of State Services, DSS, has summoned the management of Dangote Refinery and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, amid escalating tension over an alleged breach of an agreement on workers’ right to belong to the union of their choice. The meeting, which is reportedly scheduled for 3:00 pm on Friday, will also be attended by representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and other key stakeholders. DAILY POST recalls that on September 9, the management of Dangote Refinery and NUPENG signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, at the DSS Headquarters, Abuja, granting workers the freedom to join any union of their choice without interference. The signing was witnessed by officials of the NLC, the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, government ministers, and other stakeholders. Meanwhile, barely 24 hours after the signing, NUPENG accused Dangote Refinery management of violating the pact, an allegation the company denied. Earlier on Friday, the union again accused the Dangote Group of being economical with the truth. NUPENG President Prince Williams Akporeha and General Secretary Afolabi Olawale, in a statement they jointly signed, said Dangote Refinery’s press release of September 11, 2025, misrepresented facts about its relationship with workers and their freedom to join NUPENG. “The press statement by Dangote Petroleum Refinery dated 11th September 2025 further confirms the company’s aim to crush our union, NUPENG, as well as stifle competition, with the ultimate goal of increasing fuel prices in the long run. Cardizoom by TaboolaSponsored Links “The attempt to create an illusion of division within our union is not only malicious but entirely fabricated. If a ‘faction of tanker drivers’ truly existed, Dangote should have persuaded them to call off the nationwide strike of Petroleum Tanker Drivers directed by NUPENG, which was effective, peaceful, and 100 percent successful,” parts of the statement read. At the time of filing this report, Dangote Group had yet to respond to the latest allegations. Its earlier statement maintained that association with any trade union at its refinery remains strictly voluntary, in line with Nigerian law and International Labour Organisation, ILO, conventions |
The NiajaNews NEWS AND MAGAZINES Article by Jennifer Adeyemi September 11, 2025 News Omoyele Sowore continues to cloak himself with the label of “pro-democracy activist,” yet his actions tell a very different story. What emerges is not patriotism, but a troubling alignment with foreign powers intent on destabilizing Nigeria. His methods mirror the old intelligence playbook particularly that of the CIA, where reckless opportunistic individuals are preyed upon, to advance their agenda as tools to undermine sovereign nations. Sowore’s record of incitement, propaganda, and hostility towards security institutions reflects this pattern with disturbing accuracy. His drive is not rooted in service to the people, but in personal ambition and the demands of his sponsors. By manipulating crises and turning disinformation into a weapon, he fuels division and unrest. Crucially, this behavior is also part of his desperate attempt to gain cheap popularity and revive a political ambition that Nigerians have long rejected at the polls. In effect, every act of provocation becomes less about democracy and more about his own relevance. The recent trial in the United States of the man accused of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump serves as a stark lesson: unchecked recklessness escalates into violence. If Sowore’s pattern of agitation is ignored, it risks radicalizing his followers, creating the very real possibility of violent action more than what was experienced during and after the EndSARS protest in 2020, innocence lives may be loss, and even possible murder against Nigeria’s president. This is why Nigeria must remain alert. Democratic dissent is legitimate, but treachery masked as activism cannot be normalised. Sowore’s betrayal disguised as activism cannot be tolerated, it is a time bomb that must be defused before it explodes into chaos. In this context, the decisive steps taken by the Police and DSS to contain his excesses deserve recognition. Safeguarding peace and stability is not the job of security agencies alone; it is a collective responsibility of citizens who value the survival of their country above the theatrics of an individual chasing lost political relevance. |
NNPCL CEO Ojulari Breaks Silence, Denies Bribery Allegations Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr Bayo Ojulari, has broken his silence on social media reports that Adegboyega Fasasi and Usman Shugaba, Chief Security Officer (CSO) and Chief Personal Security Officer (CPSO) respectively to President Bola Tinubu accepted a $1.5 million bribe from him to facilitate access to the President. The NNPCL boss described the report as "false, ludicrous, malicious, and existing only in the imagination of the authors of the gibberish." Speaking to select journalists Monday in Abuja, Ojulari said he was "scandalized and at the same time amused by the report" which he said was the handiwork of "those who do not mean well for Nigeria." Said the GCEO, "My initial reaction when i sighted the report was that of disbelief. Not only are the allegations wicked, wild and spurious, they were clearly the handiwork who do not mean well for Nigeria. "It is clear that the authors do not understand what $1.5 million is. It is a calculated smear campaign intended to mislead the public and cast doubt on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited's leadership," he stated. "It is important to emphasize that the sensational claims attributed to anonymous sources have not been supported by any shred of evidence. As NNPCL GCEO, I, Bayo Ojulari do not need the permission of security details to contact Mr. President whenever I so desire. He continued, "My consolation is that the blog or website that published the fake news has a long history of publishing stories that exist only in their imagination. They are not known for publishing credible reports." On if he would take legal action on the publishers, Ojulari said he was still speaking with his lawyers. "I am speaking with my lawyers, and we are exploring the options before us. Clearly, Nigeria is a country with laws. You can't just go around, hiding under the pillar of freedom of speech, and writing fiction. No! There has to be consequences for such actions," he said. SaharaReporters had on Sunday published a story purporting that Ojulari paid $1.5 million in bribes to two security aides of President Tinubu to grant him access to the president. |

The organized labour leaders in the country have resolved to consult with organs and workers first on the next line of action to be taken on the impending strike action after Sunday’s meeting with the federal government delegation. NLC President Gives Update On Nationwide Strike After Meeting With FG It would be recalled that in a bit to avert the strike action threatened by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the federal government held a meeting with the labour leaders in Abuja on Sunday. According to a statement by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris after the meeting, some concessions were made by the government including the N35,000 provisional wage increment for all treasury-paid federal government workers for six months, commitment to fast-tracking the provision of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to ease public transportation difficulties associated with the removal of PMS subsidy, removal of VAT on diesel for the next six months, and commencement of payment of N75,000 to 15 million households at N25,000 per month, for a three-month period from October-December 2023. The government also said workers need to be at work for the concessions to be implemented. Reacting to the government position, NLC President, Joe Ajaero said they are taking the government promises to the workers for consideration before a final decision would be announced on going ahead with the proposed strike or otherwise. He said: “I don’t have much to say than the Chief of Staff has said. We’ve been meeting and we’ve looked at almost all the issues, all the promissory notes from the government and we’ll look at how to translate them to reality and to be workable. Then we’re going to take those promises to our organs, of course you know these people here cannot just wake up and review and call off action. “So like he said, we’re hopeful that our organs will have a look at them and give us a fresh mandate on what next to do. So it’s a simple one.” The labour delegation at the meeting included the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, Deputy President, TUC, Dr Tommy Etim Okon, NLC General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, TUC General Secretary, Nuhu Toro, among others. |

A fresh revelation from the investigative committee set up by President Bola Tinubu has revealed that former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele stole N3 trillion from two projects alone. Top sources privy to the findings made by the committee told Reporters that the whopping amount was made from COVID loans and the Anchor Borrowers' Programme Fund alone. In July, Tinubu appointed a special investigator to probe the apex bank. In a letter dated July 28, 2023, the president named the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Jim Obazee, as the special investigator. The President asked Obazee to investigate CBN and key Government Business Entities. The committee only reports to the President The appointment of Obazee came over a month after Tinubu suspended Emefiele as the CBN governor. Shortly after his suspension in June, Emefiele was arrested and taken into custody by Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS). Sources told Reporters that Obazee’s investigative committee found out that Emefiele stole N3 trillion from the two projects, among other atrocities committed as the head of the apex bank. In addition, it was exclusively learnt that Obazee’s committee is pushing to have an interim report submitted to Tinubu as a way of letting him understand the gravity of Emefiele’s financial crimes and how bad it set Nigeria’s finances back. “The committee is asking that they should be allowed to submit an interim report so as to stop any attempt by Emefiele and the Attorney General of the Federation’s office to settle his case on the basis of N50 billion refund plea bargain as earlier exposed by SaharaReporters,” one of the sources said. In his nationwide broadcast on Sunday morning as part of the programme of events to mark Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary celebration, President Tinubu confirmed that findings on past lapses in the apex bank would soon be out In his address, Tinubu said, “I pledged a thorough housecleaning of the den of malfeasance the CBN had become. That housecleaning is well underway.” “A new leadership for the Central Bank has been constituted. Also, my special investigator will soon present his findings on past lapses and how to prevent similar reoccurrences,” he added. On Friday, SaharaReporters exclusively reported that Emefiele was set to be released from detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) after his plea bargain with President Tinubu’s administration had been concluded.,however, the AGF and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, on Sunday denied reaching any non-prosecution bargain with Emefiele, thus Emefile and some of his associates were expected to be arraigned over N6.9 billion procurement fraud at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in August but the arraignment had stalled. |
Two separate incidents happened in the last seven days that put the Department of State Services (DSS) in the news, and for which the agency deserves commendation but which it didn’t get. On Monday, September 12, it was reported that the Department of State Services (DSS) had arrested the King of Akoh Kingdom in Rivers State, His Royal Majesty Eze Ikegbidi following the gruesome murder of the Ahoada Divisional Police Officer, Bako Angbashim, by gunmen suspected to be cultists. The DPO was killed and beheaded by his assailants on Friday night during an operation with his men in the area. The DSS had obviously waded into the shocking murder to arrest the perpetrators and unravel their motive in line with its function to prevent any crime against the internal security of Nigeria and investigate threats of terrorism and sabotage, among others. The late DPO Bako Angbashim was a fearless officer who was renowned for his gallantry in the war against cultists in the state. He had previously almost single-handedly taken down gangs of robbers and cultists in the area. The monarch’s arrest gives credence to the allegation that he was complicit in the free reign of the notorious David Gift and his cult gang in the area. With the arrest of the royal father, the DSS is closer to unmasking the killers of the police officer for prosecution. It must be good news for the people of Rivers State and particularly the residents of Ahoada who have long been traumatized by the criminal activities of the gang. In Abuja on September 7, an operative from the FCT Command of the agency was reported to have opened fire inside Garki Market following a dispute with a tailor. Stray bullets were said to have hit two persons. Sep 5, 2023 Predictably, the DSS immediately came under a barrage of criticism on social media with many commentators attacking the agency for the alleged misdemeanor of an operative. But almost immediately after the incident was reported, Dr Peter Afunanya, the Public Relations Officer of the DSS, issued a statement informing the public that it had commenced investigation of the incident. In a statement titled: DSS INVESTIGATES GARKI MARKET, ABUJA, INCIDENT INVOLVING ITS STAFF, the agency said, “The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to an incident that occurred a few hours ago (today, 7/9/2023) between its staff and a mob at the Garki Market, Abuja. Information at the disposal of the Service was that its FCT Command responded to an SOS from their field operatives who allegedly came under a mob attack in the said market. “Consequently, the Service has commenced an investigation into the matter. The public is assured that details of the inquiries will be communicated as soon as possible. The Service assures that it will not hesitate to mete out proper disciplinary measure(s) to its staff if found culpable or running foul of Standard Operating Procedures on dealing with a member of the public.” While the public awaits the outcome of the investigation, the agency must be commended for its proactive stance. The DSS under its Director General, Mr. Yusuf Magaji Bichi, has become a more responsive and professional intelligence organization. This is no surprise. Bichi is a British-trained intelligence officer who rose to the apex of the organization due to his outstanding counterintelligence prowess. This is an attribute he has brought to bear on the operations of the DSS across the country. It’s also no surprise that the DSS has seen its mandate expand to probe critical government institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria and agencies under it. It is a measure of the professionalism of the service that it is being called upon to assist other agencies in doing their jobs better. Nigerians would hope that the DSS continues to transform into a modern, 21st-century intelligence outfit that supports and deepens democracy. |
In Defence Of The DSS By Johnson Okorogu This intervention won't have been necessary if a couple of those who should know had not joined in the cheap criticism of the most decent Security Agency in Nigeria. In the past one month or so, the Department of State Services, DSS, has been on the negative side of the news for nothing other than doing the job for which it was established. The negative reports are a product of misinformation, deliberate misinformation, aimed at calling a dog a bad name in order to hang it. It began, gradually, with the lies and misinformation to the members of the public by Ifeanyi Ejiofor, one of the Counsels to the Federal Government-proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPoB, and its detained Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. From the first day Kanu was arrested in Nairobi, Kenya till date, Ejiofor has fed the public with false news, false information, mischief-filled, and has succeeded in misleading the people, especially, unsuspecting youths in the South-east. While Ejiofor is in his house and/or office, enjoying life with the money he has made from IPoB and its leader, he is inciting hundreds of Igbo youths to violence, and leading them to their untimely deaths. I will get back to this shortly. In the instant case, the DSS is being pillioried for warning the Country of the dangers ahead stemming from the antics of politicians who are angling for an Interim National Government, the evil which was first foisted on us by General Ibrahim Babangida Following the conduct of the General Elections on 25th February and 18th March, 2023, every Nigerian knows that the Country is on edge. Every Nigerian knows that Politicians are doing everything to precipitate violence and push Nigeria into avoidable crisis. Tension has been unnecessarily high. Fake stories reign, and Politicians are busy planning evil and pushing the Country to the precipice. They are fanning the embers of hatred and fire. They are fanning internal insurrection in the name of protesting the outcome of the General Elections, especially, the Presidential election. To keep the Country safe, to avoid unnecessary bloodshed, all the DSS did was to warn Nigerians against such behaviors that could destroy the Country. All it did was to tell Nigerians not to spark off violence which could push the Country into abyss, and destroy the it. This, the DSS did by way of a statement issued by its Spokesperson, Dr Peter Afunanya. By warning Nigerians against the dangers ahead if Politicians continue to heat up the system, the DSS was only keeping to its schedule of duties which is to sniff out internal troubles, through intelligence gathering, and nip them in the bud. That was all the DSS did - warn and alert that we know what you are planning, so stop, keep off, stay off. In the statement, Afunanya warned that the Service is aware of the activities of some Politicians aimed at causing trouble and, therefore, abort our hard-earned democracy. It warned against activities which could abort a smooth hand-over of power from one Government to the other on May 29, 2023. It warned against protests and frivolous Court Cases aimed at aborting a new Government, and foisting an Interim National Government on the Country. The statement did not mention any particular persons or Political Party. The statement did not ask aggrieved parties not to seek legal interventions in Court, afterall it was the Federal Government that set up the Presidential Election Petition Tribunals. The DSS knew what it was talking about. There are examples to back it. The crisis in all the frontline Political Parties where the Courts are being used to sack the Executive Members of the Parties, particularly, the removal of Chairmen and other high profile members of the Parties prove there is a grand plan to destabilize the Government, and abort 29th May. When all the main political parties are destabilized, using the Courts, then, there will be no 29th May. Before we know it, we will have a a June 12, 1993 situation where the late Arthur Nzeribe used one Abimbola Davies to plunge the Country into unnecessary turmoil. It follows the same pattern, and, if not checked, will gradually explode. In the past three weeks, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has removed its National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu. Before that, a number of people were asking for the sack of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu. The push has not been dropped. A few days ago, it infected the Labour Party. A move was made, through the Courts, to throw out its National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure. A Court granted the removal bid. It took the self-will of the Party to save him. The end has still not been seen. Since then, the APC has either been suspending or expelling its high profile members - Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema, Chairman of the Njger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Lauretta Onochie, former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, Governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime, etc. The PDP did the same, but was quick to recall about four of them including former Senate President, Pius Anyim, and two former Governors. Another former Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani remains expelled from the Party. There are more from other Political Parties. If these are not signs of destabilization, and a bid to precipitate crisis and abort 29th May, 2023, then I don't know what is. Add those to the hate speeches by Politicians and their supporters, not to forget the incitement by Ejiofor in the South-east. It is surprising that the Igbo Leadership and the elite cannot see through the misinformation Ejiofor dishes out all the time on Kanu, especially, each time he visits the IPoB leader at the DSS facility where he is kept. Nobody is interrogating the false information Ejiofor dishes out on Kanu in order to keep himself in business. For Ejiofor, Kanu and IPoB are his meal ticket, his ATM. He deliberately paints a dreary picture of Kanu's situation to keep himself in business. Kanu and IPoB oil his business. Otherwise, has anybody heard Ejiofor's name in any other case except that of Kanu and IPoB where his mischief knows no end. Ejiofor continuously gives the impression that it is the DSS which arrested and kept Kanu in its custody. Or that it is the DSS which requested that Kanu be kept in its custody. The true picture is that it is a Federal High Court that remanded Kanu in the DSS custody for safety. To be in the DSS custody happens to be one of the safest and most decent facilities where anybody could keep him. The leadership of the DSS is polished and professionally carries out its duties. When the pressure was on, through Ejiofor, to relocate Kanu from the DSS facility and keep him in Prison custody, it was a mischievous ploy. It was a plan to put Kanu in harm's way and blame the Government so Ejiofor can make more money with his propaganda. A number of people who Kanu misled, and thus got in trouble, are in prison custody in Abuja over one atrocity or the other they committed, including murder, especially, of security agents. Having realized their folly, and knowing that they were incited into embarking on a murderous journey they knew nothing about, they are filled with anger and regrets. Detain Kanu with them in prison custody, and they would lynch him. The Government is conscious of this. For one moment, think of what could have happened if Kanu was in Kuje prisons when the facility was invaded by terrorists. Everybody that had gone to visit Kanu at the DSS facility, except Ejiofor, confirms that Kanu is in good hands, good environment, and doing well. He is healthy, well taken care of, provided with everything he asks for, including special meals, provided with good medical care, and exercise facilities. The only minus is that, like any other detention facility, his movements are restricted. But this is not the impression Ejiofor gives to the public. He gives the impression of a starving Kanu whose health is failing, whose heart is very diseased, and who is going blind. None of these is true. It is based on such stories, on such lies, that the youths in the South-east are dangerously incited. They foolishly embark on a killing spree of their own people and Security Agents, and torch public facilities. Is Kanu being held or being tried by his own people who have now become victims of his unending and fruitless suicidal journey? The South-east needs to be honest to itself. People like Ejiofor are not allowing it to be honest to itself because of the lies they put out. Ejiofor is not allowing them to interrogate the lies he tells them. Ejiofor knows very well the unprecedented violence Kanu has wrought on his people and Security Agents. Is there anybody who has not listened to Kanu speak. Is there anybody who has not, or did not listen to Kanu order his followers to kill Security Agents? In which other Country is such allowed? Is there anybody who has not, or did not hear Kanu insult the elders of the South-east and call all its Leaders useless (Efulefu)? Is there anybody who has not, or did not hear Kanu call for the outright beheading of people. All the atrocities in the South-east emanated from Kanu. There are evidences. The violence which has taken over the South-east all emanated from Kanu. Neither he nor his followers can control what he started. Kanu single-handedly brought the economy of the South-east to ground zero. He introduced the sit-at-home order every Monday and had many people killed over it, and their businesses destroyed. Simon Ekpa is a product of Nnamdi Kanu. When Kanu and IPoB realized their folly in introducing the sit-at-home order, and cancelled it, Ekpa continued from where his comrades and their master stopped. Sit-at-home has become a weapon and a meal ticket. They raid people's shops and loot on such days. They extort some people of their money and hold others to ransome. Kidnapping booms in the South-east because of their unwholesome activities. Every criminal takes refuge in being an IPOB member. The Region has been taken over by criminal gangs because of what Kanu and IPoB started. One of the reasons many people came to the conclusion that Ejiofor is not anxious for Kanu to be released is that instead of Ejiofor to sound conciliatory, or, at least, present the correct situation of Kanu, and plead for his Client who wrought poverty, violence and death upon his people, killed Security Agents and destroyed and razed both private and public buildings and facilities, Ejiofor is busy lying against the DSS. He is busy lying about Kanu's welfare and health. By doing so, deliberately, he hardens the heart of the Service which has been kind to his Client, and the heart of the Government, all because he wants Kanu and IPoB to remain his ATM. Those lies have neither helped Kanu's case, nor the South-east. It was because of the threat by Ekpa, Kanu’s disciple, that Obi lost out on the number of votes he could have garnered in the South-east. None of the five States in the South-east registered less than one million voters. But because of the fear of the violence and death threatened by Ekpa on Voters, they stayed away on the Presidential election day. Yes, Peter Obi of the Labour Party won in the South-east, but with how many votes? But for Kanu/Ekpa, nobody would have been talking about Tinubu's number of Votes with which he defeated Obi. Obi lost over three million votes because of Ekpa's threats. The elders and leaders of the South-east should be ashamed. Out of cowardice, they have allowed IPoB, Ekpa and Ejiofor to destroy the Region. The DSS is not going to succumb to their blackmail, just as it is not going to succumb to the blackmail of those who think the Service is crying wolf over the warning against the plans for Interim Government. The DSS raised the alarm because something was cooking. It raised the alarm because it knows the dangers of an Interim National Government. Military President, Ibrahim Babangida, introduced an Interim National Government in 1993 and installed the now late Chief Ernest Shonekan as the Head of the ill-fated Government. It lasted from 26th August 1993 to 17th November 1993 when it was flushed out by the Military. That misadventure ushered in the regime of General Sani Abacha from which Nigeria has not fully recovered till date. The DSS did well to raise the alarm in order to stop those planning for an ING on their tracks. Knowing that their plans have been exposed, they would abort it. The DSS didn't need to mention the names of the culprits, or raise more tension in the Country by arresting them. They know themselves, they know that eyes are on them, and have taken note. |
A former DSS boss, Dennis Amachree, has revealed those behind the killing of Christians in Nigeria. During his interview on TV360, Dennis outlined the possible consequences that could follow if Nigeria is reinstated as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) by the United States (US). Reacting to the topic, Dennis said, "I agree with the minister for once that it is not a Nigerian policy to persecute or kill Christians." The ISWAP, Boko Haram, and killer herdsmen are behind such killings. Religious freedom is guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution, but I would like the government to show more concern by openly pursing the situation decisively. Nobody has addressed the ongoing events. I know they have an inter-religious council that is doing its job, but how far have they gone in solving these problems? We know that these renegade Islamic groups have killed even Muslims. I think it would seem to the outside world that Christians are dying, churches are getting burnt, and Catholic priests are getting kidnapped. However, the government should demonstrate that these groups are to blame for the events by attacking them in order to prevent a repeat. He continued, "The threats to reinstate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern is quite serious. They refused to sell us the Tucano jets when we were on that list, as it is against US policy to conduct business with countries that are against the interests of the US. Religious freedom and freedom of speech are part of the US society. It becomes very serious as some of the things we enjoy as US partners may be withdrawn. I think it depends on the Nigerian government to prove it to the US and the world. Other countries are also watching to see if such a policy exists. |

A retired detective has explained why online dating users shouldn’t be sending photos to people they’ve from the apps, as those images can reveal information about their location. On TikTok, Mike, a former detective who goes by Killer Bee Tactical, LLC , often shares videos about safety and security tips. In a recent clip, he responded to a video posted by @persnicketybox, who said that when she downloaded a photo on her iPhone, sent to her by her son, she clicked the information button underneath the image. From there, she could see the place and time in which the photo was taken. He then explained a scenario of online dating and how discovering someone’s location through a photo they texted can be a little dangerous. “If you’re online dating and you send photos to a stranger, you just sent them where you were,” he explained. “So if you’re standing on the porch when you took the photo, that could be an issue.” Mike noted that if you want to send someone a photo that you’ve taken, there’s a way to do so without your location being shared. “A screenshot doesn’t have that information,” he continued. “Take a screenshot of the photo, send a screenshot.” As of 2 June, the video has more than 2.4m views, with TikTok users in the comments applauding Mike for sharing such a useful tip about iPhone photos and how big of a difference it can make. |
The case of the Nigerian Police officer demoted for pledging allegiance to a cult group in a TikTok video that went viral has caused great controversy across the nation as the Police Force has proven, by his demotion, that it will go at such great lengths to continue to uphold the ideals of the Nigerian Police Force. The affected Police officer, Mr Isaac Mathews, who was until his trial, a Police Corporal attached to the Ebonyi State Police command, was on May 7, 2022, seen fully dressed in his police uniform in a viral video dancing, singing and brandishing a rifle, while showering praises of an undisclosed cult group. Following this, he was later arrested and taken to the police headquarters where he faced an orderly room trial which led to his demotion from Corporal to Constable. In a statement released to Newsmen and signed by the Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was confirmed that the case of this Police Officer Demoted would serve as a deterrent to other erring officers. In the statement titled ‘CULTISM: POLICE APPROVE PUNISHMENT OF REDUCTION IN RANK FOR CORPORAL CAUGHT IN TIKTOK VIDEO’, Adejobi stated that the decision of having the police officer demoted follows the outcome of the orderly room trial of the concerned officer and also a review of the recommended punishment for the offences of Discreditable Conduct, Promoting Secret Cults and Violation of the Social Media Policy (SMP) of the Nigerian Police Force. The statement further noted that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Ali baba, charged all police officers to uphold the discipline and professional ethics of the Nigerian police force while being committed to self discipline in line with the IGP’s policy agenda of restoration of professional standards, ethical regeneration and enhancement of anti-corruption drive with a view to having the desired police institution Nigerians deserve. It also stated: ‘This decision follows the outcome of the Orderly Room Trial of the concerned officer and a review of the recommended punishment for the offences of Discreditable Conduct, Promoting Secret Cults and violation of the Social Media Policy (SMP) of the Nigeria Police Force.’ ‘The Force is currently looking into many other disciplinary cases of unprofessionalism and misconduct by officers in encounters with members of the public. Meanwhile, orderly room trials are ongoing and decisions reached at the end of such trials will be made known as the current police administration is committed to a transparent, accountable and proactive policing system in Nigeria.’ Recall that when this event, which has now led to the Police Force ensuring that this police officer is demoted, happened on May 7 2022, Adejobi described it as an act that was clearly calculated to portray the Nigerian police force in negative light and one that was also a discreditable conduct in line with the provisions of the First Schedule to Regulation 370 of the Police Regulations. |

Roman Abramovich’s 19-year ownership of Chelsea has ended after the British government approved the sale of the Premier League club to a consortium fronted by Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly. The government had to be sure that Abramovich, who was sanctioned over his links to Russian President Vladimir Putin after the invasion of Ukraine, did not profit from the enforced sale of the club that his investment turned into one of the most successful in European football. The reigning FIFA Club World Cup winners and 2021 European champions will be sold for 2.5 billion pounds ($3.1 billion) — the highest price ever for a sports team — with Premier League approval already granted on Tuesday. The sale proceeds will initially go into a frozen account before going to charity. “We will now begin the process of ensuring the proceeds of the sale are used for humanitarian causes in Ukraine, supporting victims of the war,” the British government said in a statement. “The steps today will secure the future of this important cultural asset and protect fans and the wider football community.” The sale proceeds will initially go into a frozen account before going to charity. “We will now begin the process of ensuring the proceeds of the sale are used for humanitarian causes in Ukraine, supporting victims of the war,” the British government said in a statement. “The steps today will secure the future of this important cultural asset and protect fans and the wider football community.” https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2022/05/25/uk-govt-approves-sale-of-chelsea-to-boehly-consortium/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

US’ DOUBLE STANDARDS IN HER NIGERIAN MISSION BY Richard Babatunde A Lagos Based International Relations Analyst The United States’ Missions in parts of Africa are replete with under hand deals. It is unbelievably embarrassing. Aside the fact that the missions have abandoned their core objectives of advancing peace and other consular services, they have become centers of meddlesomeness and interferers in internal governance systems of host countries. These adversarial actions have been deemed despicable. Over the decades, America has engaged in activities aimed at undermining administrations across the Continent. The US Department of State is either doling out bad predictions and estimates about African countries or issuing recurrent but repulsive movement and travel alerts for their nationals suggesting the region is constantly unsafe. While the advisories are oftentimes exaggerated, the scare actions are done solely to justify and acquire more funding from their home government for self-serving interest of the diplomats. Notably, the US Mission in Nigeria has continued to exploit insecurity to justify its ostentatious proposals to her country. While the US and its agents exploit security concerns and socio-economic challenges bedeviling the country, it has failed to curb its home-based security challenges that are threatening the safety of its citizens. It is common knowledge that gun violence, mass shootings, rising drug-related crimes, arson, homicide, rape, suicide, aggravated assault, robbery and cybercrime are more prevalent in the United States than in Nigeria. White supremacist activities are even more active. Surprisingly, American government has not only turned a blind eye to these security concerns over the years, but has also continued to downplay or censor the gravity of crimes in their homeland. It is estimated that mass shootings is responsible for the death of over 39,000 people each year, implying that over 360 people get shot every day in the country. While the United States ranks higher than the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia in terms of mass shootings, another study found that nearly one-third of the world's public mass shootings (90 of 292 between 1966 and 2012) occurred in the United States. To the US and its missions in Nigeria, the daily gun violence and attacks in their country are excusable. However, it beats ones imagination, that the pockets of restiveness in Nigeria are more important to them than their frequent incidences of violence. If these attacks by armed citizens in US were to happen in Nigeria, the American government and its agents would have long premised on the situation to undermine its leadership. While the US has persistently highlighted issues surrounding Nigeria’s socio-cultural complications, it has apparently ignored its many related socio-cultural challenges and unanswered relevant questions on gun control and racism. White supremacy crises have continued to manifest through consistent violent attacks, racial discrimination, unfair immigration policies, and the skewed media role against the black race. More worrisome is the growing number of atrocities been committed in the US by white supremacist groups, with black men as principal victims. Over the decades, white supremacist ideology was used to rationalize the genocide of Native Americans and the enslavement of blacks and their descendants from the Colonial period to the 19th century. This practice has remained within American government institutions. Furthermore, it is quite amazing how the US covertly supported dissidents that staged the ENDSARS protests across Nigeria. The subversive elements were allowed to use twitter and other similar platforms to organize, communicate and execute attacks against citizens, critical infrastructure and institutions in the country. Jack, the ex CEO of Twitter, in consolidating the interest of American government to threaten public order and stability in Nigeria, out-rightly refused to suspend accounts of the ENDSARS organizers. Meanwhile, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after he was hit by truckers protests in the country, described their action as “unacceptable”. Twitter, still under the control of Jack, wasted no time in suspending the twitter accounts of the protesting truckers, what double standards! The 2021 attack and insurrection at Capitol Hill has indeed exposed the Achilles’ heel of the American government and its systems. There is definitely no gainsaying the fact that America is as corrupt as the Nigerian governments they castigate and term corrupt. It is on record that the United States' resistance to corruption has declined in recent years. It has dropped from its rank of 18th in 2016, to 27th out of 180 countries on the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index of 2021. More so, in the recently released annual Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), the United States fell to a low of 67 out of a maximum possible score of 100, down from a high of 76 in 2015. This simply means the lower the score, the worse the corruption. The many ways of how corruption thrives in the US include the influence of wealthy individuals over government; “pay to play” politics and the revolving doors between elected government office, for-profit companies, and professional associations; and the abuse of the US financial system by corrupt foreign kleptocrats and local elites. It is, however, laudable that Nigerian government and the populace are beginning to wake up from their slumber and opposing the offensive attitude of US Government and their counterparts. In most cases, they are more corrupt and churning out projections and security alerts to their nationals, only to secure more allocations to fund their extravagant lifestyles. These so called US diplomats love to live large. They use the constant security scare to deceive their home government to get more money for ostensive living in the host country, acquire treated (armoured) cars; build palatial residences in the US and frolic with women of sorts. Nigeria and other African governments must sustain this "wokeness" and resist the continuous attempt to undermine their sovereignty at the expense of crooked personalities and self-centered interests. |
