Making Ogun state a foremost market for local and foreign investors will remain a priority for the state government.

This assurance was given by Governor Ibikunle Amosun while hosting the ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Nigeria, Mr Harry Purwanto, in his office in Abeokuta, the state capital.

On his part, Mr Purwanto also expressed delight in partnering with the government, especially with what he described as the state’s friendly business environment and policies.

PoliticsTension As Armed Robbers Invade Imo Assembly, Cart Away Documents, Electronics by computerwiz2(op):
Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers attacked the Imo State house of Assembly complex situated in Owerri, the state capital, carting away valuables, office equipment, electronics and other vital documents.

Our correspondent learnt that the latest attack was the third in 2017.

A lawmaker, Emma Orie, who represents Ohaji /Egbema state constituency told our correspondent on the phone on Wednesday, that his office was not burgled during the armed robbery attack.

He, however, said that the offices of three of his colleagues, Mike Iheanatu (Aboh Mbaise) Uche Oguwuike (Ikeduru) and Uche Agabiga (Orsu) were robbed by the gangsters.

An Assembly source, who preferred to be anonymous, said that the hoodlums gained access into the offices of the three lawmakers through the ceilings at night.

According to him, it was when the staff members attached to the lawmakers resumed for work in the morning that they discovered that the tables and chairs had been turned upside down, and computers, documents, television sets and other valuables had been stolen.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the speaker of the house of Assembly, Ben Ilochonwu confirmed the development and said that the hoodlums only stole electronic sets and gadgets from the lawmakers’ offices.

When contacted for reaction, one of the affected lawmakers, Iheanatu, dropped the phone on our correspondent immediately he introduced himself to him.

The spokesperson for the police in the state, Andrew Enwerem, could not be reached as of the time of filing this report.

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has assured of his administration’s commitment to always place the welfare of Ogun citizens on the front burner. Gov Ibikunle Amosun The governor gave the assurance, on Tuesday, while addressing the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists led by its President, Alhaji Waheed Odusile, who came on a courtesy visit to the Governor in his Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta office. The NUJ leadership also seized the opportunity to formally inform the governor of the union’s decision to honour him with the 2016 Excellence in Leadership Award. Explaining the rationale for choosing the Ogun State Governor for the award, Odusile said it was in recognition of the giants strides Governor Amosun has recorded in his mission to rebuild Ogun State. “As journalists, we have gone round the country and we are impressed with the level of development we have seen in Ogun State,” he said. The Governor who appreciated the Union for recognising him with the award, said it would spur and challenge his administration to do more and serve the state with greater sense of dedication, vigor and vitality. “I will continue to serve the good people of Ogun State with more dedication, vigour and hardwork,” Governor Amosun said. According to Adejuwon Soyinka, Senior Special Assistant (Media) Ogun State governor, the governor while speaking assured that his administration would not leave any projects abandoned. He said, “contractors have been mobilized back to site across the state and we promise to complete all projects initiated across the state before the end of our tenure.” Speaking on the welfare of civil servants in Ogun State, Governor Amosun who promised to offset all outstanding cooperative deductions before the end of the year, revealed that about 6 months of the deductions would be paid from the Paris Club refund the state is expecting. He also seized the ocassion to announce that the state government has concluded plans to pay the October 2016 salaries of some workers who took part in an illegal strike action last year. Govermor Amosun said the payment would be effected before the commemoration of this year’s Workers Day on May 1. It will be recalled that the state government evoked the ‘no work, no pay rule’ in response to a politically motivated strike action embarked upon by a section of the labour movement in the state in September 2016. Speaking earlier, Odusile commended the Governor for the infrastructural development that has dotted the nooks and crannies of the state. He also appreciated the Governor for hosting the first NUJ Media Summit in 2016. Alhaji Odusile noted that the Mission to Rebuild Ogun State is already yielding results and helping in the process of creating a desirable future for the gateway state.

CrimeDaredevil Armed Robbers Killed An Entire Family In Owerri Imo State by computerwiz2(op): 6:31pm On Apr 04, 2017
Daredevil armed robbers on Sunday killed an entire family in Nekede, Owerri West Local Council of Imo State. The yet-to-be identified man was killed in a cold blood with his wife and 22-year-old son.

According to an eyewitness, the robbers trailed the man who was returning from a church service in his Lexus 330 SUV Jeep to his apartment at No. 4, Nekede Road.

The eyewitness said: “The man was led into his living room at gunpoint and requested him to bring all the money he had in the house. But when the man returned with N70,000, the robbers who had expected more money, ordered him to bring more but he pleaded with them that he doesn’t have any other money at home.

“While the man was pleading, his wife who was also in the living room with them began to cry, begging the robbers to spare her husband. Her plea infuriated the robbers who shot her dead. At this point, the man who had been cooperative with the armed men lost his cool and inquired why they had to shoot his wife.
“The robbers again shot the man and just as they were about escaping from the scene, they saw the son of the couple climbing down the staircase after hearing the gunshots.

The young man was also shot dead by the robbers before fleeing.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Andrew Enwerem, said he was yet to be officially briefed on the incident.

In another development, it was a gloomy day for residents of Kakangi District in Birnin Gwari Local Council of Kaduna State last Friday as two brothers were allegedly killed by members of the vigilance group in the area.

The police have directed relatives of the deceased persons to immediately report the incident at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Birnin Gwari for proper investigation.

The younger brother of the deceased, Mallam Shehu Rankadede, said the duo, Oli Lafia and Rankadede Nana, had left home for Biski village to perform Juma’at prayers last Friday, but did not return.

According to Rankadede, “since then, we have been searching for them. We learnt members of the vigilance group arrested them. The search yielded positive result as their decomposing bodies were recovered in the bush.

“We are appealing to the Kaduna State government and security agencies to arrest the suspects and bring them to justice without delay. Our brothers were not criminals,” he said.

The state PPRO, Mallam Usman Aliyu, said: “Please, tell them to report the incident at the Divisional Police in Birnin Gwari so that investigation will commence.”

CrimeLagos-based Businessman Kidnapped In Imo State by computerwiz2(op):
Lagos-based businessman, Benedict Kpaduwa, at his hometown in Anara, in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
Kpaduwa was a former Principal Manager, Finance and Accounts, at the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria.
Reports have it that the victim was abducted around 9am on the premises of his firm, Mekcyn Investment.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the armed men were in a Hummer bus.

They reportedly trailed Kpaduwa to the premises of the firm and dragged him out of his Toyota Corolla after shooting repeatedly into the air to scare away his workers and passersby.

The victim, our correspondent gathered, had just returned home from Lagos when the incident happened.

A source in the village, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Kpaduwa was kidnapped in the presence of his workers, who scampered to safety.

The source said the villagers had reported the incident at the Anara Police Division at Idem, adding that the businessman was kidnapped close to his home.

“The gunmen shot repeatedly into the air. They went straight to their target and dragged him from his Toyota Corolla into their Hummer bus. They ordered a pastor of a nearby church, who came out on hearing gunshots, to lie down,” he said.

Another resident, who did not want to be identified, said he heard the sound of gunshots and ran to safety, only to be told afterwards that the 55-year-old businessman had been abducted.

A source in the village told our correspondent that the kidnappers had yet to contact the victim’s family.

PoliticsAPC Governors' Forum To Sack Okorocha For Incompetence by computerwiz2(op): 7:04am On Apr 02, 2017
APC govs to sack chairman, Okorocha

State governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) want to remove Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha as chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and replace him with a second term governor from the South West, a source very close to one of them told Daily Trust on Sunday in Abuja at the weekend. The two second term APC governors from the South West are Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State and his Ogun State counterpart, Ibikunle Amosun. One of them is being touted to replace Okorocha though it is not certain which one of them the governors will settle for.

According to the source, the APC governors are not happy with Okorocha, who they said has failed to provide a proper sense of direction to their forum. He said, “Rochas is only interested in the ceremonial aspects of being APC governors’ chairman. At any public event, especially at the State House or where the president or vice president is present, he is in a hurry to assert himself as the PGF chairman and position himself close to the president or vice president for a photo op. But that is as far as his chairmanship goes. He is not interested in charting a clear program for the forum, in harmonising the views of his colleagues or in making the forum an important player in the scheme of things. Even the opposition PDP Governors’ Forum has a higher profile and more political relevance than the APC Governors Forum. It is for these and many other reasons that they want to change him.”

He denied that the move is a ploy by South West APC governors to snatch leadership from Okorocha, the only APC governor in the South East. He also said it is not part of 2019 jockeying for power. He said, “At a time when our ruling party is facing many leadership problems, such as the ineffectiveness of the national leadership and the continuous tussle between the Presidency and the APC-controlled Senate, APC governors could play an important role in filling the vacuum and reuniting the party behind a common ideal. However, they are unable to do so because their forum’s chairman is even less effective than the national secretariat.”

The source could not say when the APC governors are likely to make their move against Okorocha, but he hinted that it could be soon. State governors in Nigeria have many forums, including the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), the umbrella body for all of them. It is currently headed by Zamfara State Governor Abdul-Aziz Yari Abubakar. In addition there is PGF headed by Okorocha, PDP Governors Forum headed by Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) headed by Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima, South West Governors Forum headed by Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi, South East Governors Forum headed by Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi and South South Governors Forum, once headed by former governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State.

Reacting, the Chief Press Secretary to Imo State Governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, said the governor was doing what he was supposed to do in the area of bringing the PGF to relevance as demanded by the duties of the chairman.

He said the chairman had always intervened alongside other governors to resolve issues between the executive and the legislature.

He said that since the federal government had set up a committee headed by the Vice President to look into the issue with a view to finding an amicable solution, there was no way the governor would bypass the Vice President

CareerImo Sacks 1,400 LG Workers by computerwiz2(op): 12:31pm On Feb 24, 2017
One thousand and four hundred local governments workers in Imo were sacked last week, according to the state’s chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees.

The chairman, Mr Ndubuisi Uchehara, while confirming the sack on Thursday in Owerri, declared, however, that the union would not confront the state government over it.

He said, “As a responsible union, we only act when the rights of legitimate worker are infringed upon.

“When you are an absentee worker, labour cannot protect you when you are visited with the right punishment.

“When you reside in Abuja and draw monthly salaries from a local government in Imo, such persons are not worth NULGE’s time and efforts.

“But there are also cases of people, who were wrongfully treated; the union is already handling such cases with Gov. Rochas Okorocha.”

He expressed optimism that people with proven cases of injustice would have their situations addressed.

“Such persons should not panic; we shall put in everything to resolve their matters,” he said.

The sack hit workers from across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
