i was hoping you will also insnap Poly junction,Naze and ngor-opkala, oweerinta, ihiagwa, and even douglas road.

Why is is just control and its neighbouring axis?

.That is how one busy-body nairalander posted beautiful pictures of imo state, owerri. And i was so excited, so i decided to go see for myself. Finally i got an approval from my mum to travel only for me to go and meet the opposite.

Op, have u been to naze and ihiagwa, have u even been to all those places i listed? To see how undeveloped and unattractive the places are. Now you are fanning yourself that Rochas is working well to the favour of the state.

Its just like coming to calabar, and paying a visit to Obudu cattle ranch, tinapa and marina resort or the museum, u will now fan yourself that Ayade is doing well.

Lets all stop praising all this politician s, they can do alot more better.

When election time is near, just see them running around kicking off endless projects to later use as an excuse for continuity. Projects they know will never come to fruition.

Baba God abeg jejely carry me commot for this useless country.
i can relate with the highlighted part. i was totally disappointed on my recent visit.imo people needs a change.

Whoever is promoting this mediocrity doesn't know what Infrastructural development is.. If truly there's development, we need not you to post pictures.. I'm from Imo and I know very well that Owerri which I ply through frequently has become an eyesore.. You get to see so many Poor Construction techniques and materials, failing on going construction and the Likes..

This is only one part of Owerri where the whole world see because it's a major road and you bring it up here as Transformation?

Every single Governor that has governed Imo has focused on this particular road.. It's high time we bought senses from whomever is selling.. And last I checked its FOC..

PoliticsPolice Attack Anti-okorocha Protesters In Owerri- Premiumtimesng by computerwiz2(op): 4:33pm On Dec 18, 2017
Police on Monday morning attacked protesters on a peaceful protest against the Rochas Okorocha government in Imo State.

The protest, tagged ‘Occupy Owerri’, which is expected to last for one week, was called by Imo People’s Action for Democracy, IPAD, against the policies of the Governor Okorocha administration.

Chief among the grouse of the protesters is the erection of statues in Owerri, the state capital, costing millions of naira, when the state is still owing workers salaries and pensions.

They are also opposed to the appointment of the governor’s sister as Commissioner for Happiness and Purpose Fulfilment.

The group had written to the police and the State Security Service for security during the rally. While the SSS gave approval for the rally to hold, the police asked that the rally be shifted till after the yuletide period.

But the group refused, arguing that the police have no right to stop it from protesting.

Speaking to PREMIUM TIMES on Monday, the coordinator of the group, Aku Obidinma, said police fired tear gas at the protesters, beat them up and also confiscated their placards as they began the peaceful protest.

He said they won’t be deterred by the actions of the police.

A Nigerian governor has created a new role for his sister - as commissioner for happiness and couples' fulfilment.

Rochas Okorocha unveiled the post during the swearing in of 27 other new commissioners for Imo State.

It is not the first questionable decision the governor has made in recent times.

Earlier this year, he unveiled a statue dedicated to South African President Jacob Zuma - a man who has no apparent links to the south-eastern state

This gov should be impeached immediately because he is an embarrassment to Nigeria. Buhari should declare a state emergency in the state because the law makers and people of the state appears to be helpless.

imo state is in trouble. misplaced priorities. from statue to commissioner of happiness. does this gov need commissioner of happiness to know that most of the roads in the state are dilapidated? does he equally need the commissioner of happiness to know that the workers and pensioners are owed? does he need commissioner of happiness to make couples and pensioners happy who are owed salary arrears that runs into months and years? i weep for imo state though am not ibo.

I am truly surprised by the outbursts of young Nigerians on his excellency; Dr Rochas Okorocha. If you don't understand something, keep quite, read and research. Make good use of your senses

Alcatraz005:
I write this thread with contrition as i am guilty of what i seek to dissuade others from doing. Following a spate of scathing attacks on the yoruba Nation by igbo youths online, i think it is time to throw in the towel and beat a tactical retreat. The needless d!ck measuring which saw youths of both tribes posting pictures of infrastructural development wherein the igbos were admirably able to put up a good show has brought to the fore the futility in arguing with the igbos over anything politics or development. Moreso, i find arguments with igbos on the vexed issue of Lagos as an anathema which should henceforth be desisted from. I propose a mechanism whereby the Yorubas would adopt the Modus Operandi of the Hausa - Fulani which has seen them refrain from the vitriolic and hate filled rhetoric that characterizes e-wars which we Southerners so much relish. Yoruba Youths should endeavor to unite and forge common goals which would see to the protection of Yoruba Interests in Nigeria. If we switch off internet wars with the igbos over Lagos, we would leave our igbo enemies confused as to our plans thereby ensuring victory in the long run.

It is apposite that i state at this juncture that the Igbos can never be defeated in Internet war because they are propelled by a deep sense of grief and hate for the Yoruba over their loss of the civil war and their displacement from the table where decisions are being taken in Nigeria. For the igbos, the e-wars are real and they take it more seriously. We yorubas take the whole thing with levity. We are naive of the deep seated animosity with which we are being faced with by our igbo neighbours hence, we are always bound to lose any internet war. It is therefore time to completely black out of internet wars with any igbo person on the politics of Nigeria. We are not built with the hate of the average igbo and we should always have that at the back of our minds when we waste valuable man hours arguing with an average igbo who has a force propelling him/her. My proposition inevitably means we would/should concede defeat when we sense that the igbos want to instigate an e-war in every thread. We must also agree that they are the richest tribe in Nigeria. We must in essence avoid them like a plague online while we strategise and internalise whatever our true feelings are about whatever lies being peddled by the Igbo. All omoluabi are urged to please adopt this recommendation as we cannot to waste our time engaging with a people that cannot be placated. Glorious yoruba youths must turn to hardwork and perseverance to protect further the interest of the race in Nigeria. Victories in needless internet wars count for nothing in real life. We as yorubas know who we are and what we are capable of as a people in Nigeria. We must not give in to the impulses of insecurity which demands that we win internet wars with the Igbos.

LET US ACCEPT THAT THE IGBOS HAVE WON THE WAR SO WE MAY HAVE PEACE ON OUR DIGITAL SPACE. ENOUGH OF THE BACK AND FORTH WITH THE IGBOS.

Oodua a gbewa ooooo. Ase!

Selah.

NB: Kindly ignore any comment that seeks to forment tribal e-war

PoliticsSERAP Asks CCB, ICPC To Probe Okorocha Over N1bn Statues- CHANNELSTV by computerwiz2(op): 3:33pm On Nov 12, 2017
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, (SERAP) has called on the Acting Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Dr. Muhammad Isah and the Acting Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, to “jointly investigate allegations of incompatibility, apparent conflict of interest situation, and abuse of office involving Governor Rochas Okorocha, of Imo State.

According to SERAP, this is in connection with the exercise of his public functions and leadership of the Rochas Okorocha Foundation, to collaborate with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), “in any such investigation.”

The organization said that “Such investigation would help to improve public confidence in public authorities, and minimize the risks of bad government by public officials.”

In the petition dated 10 November 2017 and signed by SERAP executive director Adetokunbo Mumuni the organization expressed “serious concern that Governor Okorocha may have spent over N1billion of public funds to build statues of South African President Jacob Zuma and Liberian President Mrs Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.”

SERAP says, “the spending on statues and apparent misuse of public resources may have violated constitutional provisions and international standards on code of conduct for public officers. The initiatives cannot be justified under any circumstances whatsoever, especially at a time when Imo state is unable or unwilling to pay teachers’ salaries and pensioners’ entitlements.”

The petition copied to Ibrahim Magu Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) read in part: “Inviting Zuma and Johnson-Sirleaf to attend the opening of his Foundation and then ‘honouring’ them with statues suggests abuse of office and apparent conflict of interest situation, as such acts were undertaken by Governor Okorocha in the exercise of his public functions to presumably promote and advance the commercial and other interests of the Foundation.”

“SERAP believes that rather than serving the common interest of the public, spending over N1 billion possibly of public funds on Zuma and Johnson-Sirleaf in the context of their participation in the opening of the Rochas Okorocha Foundation would seem to put Governor Okorocha in a conflict of interest situation.”

“SERAP notes that the Nigerian Constitution 1999 (as amended) and UN Convention against Corruption to which Nigeria is a state party prohibit conflict of interests and set ethical standards for public officers. Indeed, both the Constitution and the Convention require public officers to abstain from all acts that may compromise the exercise of their public office and functions, or are inconsistent with their entrusted positions.”

“Public officers also must discharge their public duties truthfully and faithfully, abide by the constitutional code of conduct, observe the primacy of public interest, and not allow their personal interest to influence their official conduct.”

“The CCB and ICPC should carry out joint investigation in collaboration with the EFCC of the allegations of conflict of interest, abuse of office and apparent misuse of public funds by Governor Okorocha. SERAP also urges the CCB and ICPC to prosecute Governor Okorocha after leaving office if there is relevant and sufficient admissible evidence of abuse of public office against him.”

“Conflict of interest represents a situation where the person exercising a public function has a personal interest of patrimonial or commercial nature, which could influence the objective fulfilment of the duties incumbent on public officers under the Constitution and international standards.”

“Conflict of interest arises from a situation in which a public official has a private interest which is such as to influence or appear to influence the impartial and objective nature of his or her official duties in order to promote private interests, which would be contrary to the public interest.”

“According to reports, Governor Okorocha recently hosted two African presidents—South African President Jacob Zuma and Liberian President Mrs Ellen Johnson-Sirleafand built statues in Owerri to ‘honour’ them. The statues reportedly cost over N1 billion to build. Further, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Zuma Foundation and the Rochas Foundation was signed, while Mrs Johnson-Sirleaf visited the newly established Rochas Foundation College of Africa (ROFOCA).”

PoliticsDon’t Allow Us Die Of Hunger, Sickness, Imo Contractors Beg Okorocha by computerwiz2(op): 8:17am On Nov 06, 2017
Scores of contractors who undertook the construction of city gates in Owerri, the Imo State capital and businessmen who supplied materials and beverages during the 2012 birthday anniversary celebration of Governor Rochas Okorocha have beckoned on the state government to pay them for their services

Speaking to newsmen on Friday in Owerri on the platform of Concorde Hotel Suppliers and City Gate Contractors, the group said that banks had clamped down on them because of their inability to repay the loans they took to carry out the jobs and supply five years ago.

The spokespersons for the group, Declan Chukwu, and Pastor David Chukwukere, said that all entreaties they had made to make the government pay them, including having audience with the governor and Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, had yielded no fruitful result.

Chukwu, who said that the suppliers were being owed over N27 million for supplying drugs, diesel, foodstuff and beverages to Concorde Hotel owned by the state government, lamented that many of them had closed shops because of the way the government treated them.

Chukwu said, “We are appealing to the state government to consider our plight. These are the supplies we made to Concorde Hotel, which is owned by the state government during the birthday celebration of the governor in 2012.

No dime has been paid to us. Many of us are out of business. Some have gone to the villages. The banks are clamping down on us. We can’t even service the loan we took to make the Supplies. It is five years now and we have not got the money.”

For Chukwukere, the conditions of the contractors, who undertook the building of the city gates, were appalling, even as he urged the governor to urgently come to their rescue.

“We are talking about over N100m and for five years, we are yet to get it. We were not paid a dime for the contract, not even mobilization fee. We were asked to work to a certain level before payment could be made, but no money was given to us till now.

“We have had an audience with the governor and the governor instructed the Head of Works, Government House, to check our documents and make appropriate recommendations to him. All that have been done, but we are yet to get any money.

“We took loans from banks for the contract and it is unfortunate that we can’t payback. Some of us are being harassed by their landlords while others can’t even afford to pay their children school fees.” Chukwukere lamented.

Reacting, the Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT and Social Media, Abasiodu Idiong, urged the contractors to sustain their communication with the Head of Works, Government House, whom the governor had instructed to look into their matter.

Idiong said, “Since there is a communication, I want to urge the contractors to sustain it with the HOD in charge of Works, Government House. Sustaining it also entails being patient. It won’t be nice if they start protesting.”

I demolished Eke ukwu market because is linked to female deity – Okorocha

By Chinonso Alozie, Owerri
The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, Sunday, started revealing his reasons for demolishing Owerri Eke ukwu market, adding that it was linked to a female deity.

Demolition of Ekeukwu Owerri market . Photo by Chidi Nkwopara
A release to newsmen in Owerri, yesterday, by Okorocha’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, also claimed that ahead of 2019 governorship election that his fellow politicians in the state, were administering oath on the citizens.

According to the release, “The State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has warned certain politicians in the state, especially those with governorship ambition against administering oath on Imo people who are either members or officials of their political parties.

“The governor also advised members and officials of the political parties not to subscribe or allow themselves to be subjected to oath taking for any reason by any politician or aspirant because it is ungodly to do so.”

The release emphasized that, “One of the first things I did on assumption of office as governor was to build a befitting chapel in front of the Government House and also erected the statue of a man with the Holy Bible in his hand to show Imo people the direction of his administration.

“And one of the reasons I also decided to demolish and relocate Ekeukwu Market was when the unfounded story of a female deity owning the market came up and I resolved that Imo people would never be in a market said to be owned by a deity.”

CNN) South African President Jacob Zuma visited Nigeria's Imo state on Friday and had a giant bronze statue unveiled in his honor, a decision that has caused outrage in some parts of the country.

The two-day visit happened just as South Africa's Supreme Court ruled that President Zuma should face corruption charges.

Zuma visited Governor Rochas Okorocha in Owerri in a surprise visit that was only announced the same day by the South Africa presidency.

As well as the statue, Zuma was given a chiefaincy title and had a road named after him.

Local media reported that the cost of the statue was around 520million Naira -- equivalent to $1.4 million.

Okorocha also conferred on Zuma the Imo Merit Award, the highest award the state gives to distinguished individuals.

As he unveiled the statue, Okorocha said: "We have decided to honor you for your love for education, though you were deprived in your early days in life but you are working to make sure that every poor child went to school.

"Your love for education to us is the connection between you and government and the people of Imo State."

Okorocha and President Zuma also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will provide free education for poor children on the continent, according to local media reports.

Nigerians have weighed in on Twitter expressing their opinions on the statue of Zuma
