By: The Usman Haruna We Are Not Satisfied With Your Service, Community Cries Out To Sen Shaaba Community members of kuchita area, ward 1, edu local government area of lafiagi, have expressed their dissatisfaction towards the construction of kuchita area, lafiagi township road drainage, phase 1 which was badly and poorly constructed. Adam sheshi salisu, who provided the photos and the video of the construction to The Media captioned it, “Kuchita area Lafiagi township road drainage, phase 1 was badly and poorly constructed. This is the area where senator muhammed shaaba lafiagi hails from, it’s very unfortunate”. Speaking to The Media, a resident of the community, Hon. Alhaji Ya Musa Muhammad, said that a monitored team came and was disappointed in the quality of the work delivered. According to him, “the leader of the monitored team came last week from Abuja, he inspected the project, made a lot of complains that we have earlier made but the workers never adhere to. The phase 1 project construction, a drainage construction of 200 meters was washed away during last raining season. The monitored team that came recorded everything, including measurement of the area and the quality of work delivered, he condemned everything as this could be established from his expression”. “The supervising engineer that came with them from Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority (LNRBDA), Engr. Bello, was asked series of questions which he could not really answer, he cannot answer successfully because those that came didn’t met what they expected and they were not happy. They told us that the construction doesn’t reach the report they received compared to the amount they collected for the project”, he added. Musa however, told The Media that there were a lot of complains on the phase two construction also from the monitoring team that came, adding that the workers have packed temporarily, without filling and they are yet to see them hitherto. “The length of the road is from the emir’s palace down to dambugi stream, that was their statement the first day they came, they measured it, they only did one side and drainage is supposed to be both sides of the road, they suspended the project without reaching the stream, it later became worse than before. "They never assure us of their return for the completion of the project; complaints for lack of funds surprised the monitoring team and they told us that the money released is enough to complete the project". Hon. Musa however, appealed to the government to come for the completion of the project as indicated on the paper. “We want the government to come and finish the construction as they said when they came for the drainage that they will fill it and tile it as indicated on the paper. They only completed two third of the drainage construction, not to talk of filling and tiling”. Also addressing The Media is another member of the community, Jimba Muhammed, who said that they laid a lot of complaints to the workers the moment they started the project but they refused to listen to them and they have left the construction in a bad state. According to Jimba, “we really tried our best, we started complaining to them since they came, we expressed our dissatisfaction to their service, and they only followed their wish. When the monitoring team came, they told us that they were informed that "the project is completed". “They did not fill the road, the labourers left the road in an unpleasant state, when we told them that they have not filled it, they replied by saying that theirs is just on drainage. In his own response, the Senator representing the region (Kwara North), called the community member ingrates in a telephoneconversation with The Media. By: Usman Haruna You Are Ingrates, Senator Shaaba Told Kwarans The senator representing kwara north senatorial district, Senator Muhammed Lafiagi, has responded to a post on www.themedia.com.ng, by calling the community members of lafiagi ingrates. In February, 2017, The Media, reported the total allocation to kwara state and the dilapidated township roads of Senator Muhammed Shaaba Lafiagi. In the mean time, the senator responded to the recent report on the poor construction of kuchita area, Edu LGA, lafiagi, that the community members are not grateful and that they do not fear God. Muhammed Shaaba told the Media editor, Usman Haruna in a telephone conversation that, “even though they told you that the construction is badly constructed, cant you tell them that it is the responsibility of the government? The government did not do it, someone did it, you still complain, why are you people behaving like this for the sake of prophet Muhammed? Ehn? Why are you engaging in this kind of behavior?” “People have served as senators, they have served as house of representative members, and they didn’t do for you, the person that did, you are complaining about it. Why are you behaving like this? This does not constitute to fearing of God”. When interrupted by The Media Editor, that he called him just to balance the story, he responded by saying, “which journalist are you? Whatever journalist you are, don’t you fear God? As a journalist, they are able to bring something to your locality; don’t you know what is right from what is wrong? Is this the kind of scenario you like?” “Or when they did for Bindofu (a neighboring community), why don't they complain? All these do not constitute to fear of God at all”. Shaaba concluded. NASS: LEGISLATURE HOUSE OR COMEDY CLUB? By: Ayoola Imran | Oyo State Nigerians voted out People Democratic Party (PDP), in 2015 elections and replaced it with All Progressives' Congress (APC), as the only Messiah that can wipe out the mess that have stained and rotted our system of government. Alas, failure of the ruling party to implement it Phantasmagoric promises has made its subjects to be frustrated, depressed and disappointed. Ours is a country where funny drama and tales are used to divert and distract the populace attention from the crucial national issues. Our National Assembly (NASS), has become a comedy club where tragi-comedians feed us with unnecessary and irrelevant drama thereby neglecting the sole duty we send them for. Hardly a week will pass without an episode of comedy not released in the NASS. Among the drama of this week includes: (i) Senator Dino Melaye saga on his ABU certificate. The controversial senator was alleged of not graduating from ABU Zaria as he claimed. He also claimed that he had a certificate degree from Harvard University, but the institution out rightly debunked the claim and stated categorically that the lawmaker only attended a workshop in the school. The senator brought his NYSC Photo to the house and displayed it for his colleagues to clear the certificate saga. But, how could a person serve before graduating? How could a person graduate from a prestigious university without having a valid and original certificate? The Vice Chancellor of ABU ZARIA, Prof. Ibrahim Garba was summoned by the Senate on this issue. Melaye appeared in the house in company of the VC in a graduation gown. Maybe, Dino didn't return his convocation gown that was why his certificate was not given to him. What a bizarre! The VC appeared before the senate and clear the dust painted on Dino; that he graduated from his institution in the year 2000 with Third Class degree in B.A. Geography. Despite the investigation of Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, Melaye's saga was swept under the carpet. (ii) Also, the Nigeria custom services (NCS), seized the N298 million bullet proof Range Rover that belongs to Olubukola Sarki. The Senate president submitted himself humbly before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions and explained that he has nothing to do with the importation of the vehicle, as he was neither an importer nor a clearing agent. Being the Oga at the top, he was not interrogated thoroughly. Even though, the senate president was known of having skeleton in his compound! (iii) Senator Ali Ndume, the vocal and fearless Borno lawmaker, who raised the point of >>> http://www.themedia.com.ng/2017/03/nass-legislature-house-or-comedy-club.html?m=0 Therefore, it's high time for each constituency to call their senators and Reps into order. The 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended) granted the populace absolute right to call for the suspension of any inactive lawmakers. Ayoola Imran, writes from Ogbmosho South, Oyo state. Propaganda: Nigeria Prone To More Chaos By: Adeagbo Hammed In the wake of present competitive politics, realizations keep growing that words, ideas, symbols, images, myths and all sorts of strategies and techniques of communication are potent weapons for achieving a society’s goals. In this regard however, the pen – one and only scholarly weapon – has taken the front line in the business of influencing the world politics. Whoever has knowledge of historic Pope Gregory’s “Secro congregatio christiano nomini propaganda fidal”, which means “the propaganda of Christian religion”, founded in 1622, will agree with me that the original motive behind propaganda is to disseminate ideas so as to influence and at the end, change the attitudes, opinions, views, and behaviours of others, contrary to the present rampant and unbearable deceit, falsehood, distortion, bias, rumour, and misinformation that characterized the use of propaganda. In Nigeria today, the term propaganda is associated to two things; firstly, the dissemination of ideas, manufactured or not, to change the attitudes, opinions, views, and behaviours of others towards one’s religion, personality, political ideology or political party, and secondly, the dissemination of deceit, falsehood, misinformation, rumour, distorted, biased, and made-up ideas about other’s religion, personality, political ideology or political party purposely to holistically and destructively brainwash people’s perspective toward others. In recent decade, the availability of social media has added more avenues for propagandists to showcase their interests. The most regrettable of these is the involvement of Nigerian youths. Social media are so unpreserved that the bombardments of different versions of unpleasant posts and comments flow every second and so, division and hatred keep growing. In case of any doubt, scroll through Nigerian youths’ posts and comments of Apostle Johnson Suleiman of the Omega Power Ministry versus Miss Stephanie Otobo on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. With the present levels of ramifications false propaganda has caused amongst the Nigerian youths, it is forensic enough to predict the future of Nigeria. It is easy to visualize the uncertainty of Nigeria as a political entity because of the regional politics growing vastly to its peak >>>read more>>> http://www.themedia.com.ng/2017/03/propaganda-nigeria-prone-to-more-chaos.html Download The Media mobile app >>> http:///rhclLh Hammed is a serving Corp member in Kwara state. BEHOLD! WE ARE IN A SMALL UNIVERSE By: Usman Bello Balarabe Do you know that University is a small universe, where any one can get what he wishes or what he wants easily without any hesitation? I know you may begin to wonder how this is possible. As a student of a University, you are seemingly assumed as a person living in another small universe, compare to the real universe we are into. A University is a small world existing within the spectrum of another world, and the life there is also free and independent. Hence, anyone who found himself in the university, decides and plan for what he is to achieved within the time span he is to stay in it, with the exception on only a few, who don't. And those people are the students who never value and appreciate the opportunity they have at the right time. They often think that, University is just an entertaining environment only, to meet their social needs. But of course it has the other aspect which makes the brain to be booting and rotating from time to time to capture data, retain data, and reproduce data. And this is the academic aspect nature of the university, which most students neglected for their unseriousness, and inability to plan and to forecast for their future. "Life is all about combining different variables to achieve a certain goal" - (U.B.B 2017). Many people are pessimistic about their capability, that they can't have what others are having as their grades, but it's very possible to get it, as far as that person realize his capability, and use it appropriately to excel in the academic environment. Note that, for you to excel in the so called small universe, you need to portray a good moral character and behaviour, so that you can get what you come to achieve. "Everybody come with his history on his forehead" - Dr. Yaradu'a, 2017. Of course , only an immoral person can project a psychopath and sociopath behaviour to his lecturers or fellow students. You don't know how life will treat you later, or where you'll belong next. It's good for you to plan and to forecast for how good your future will be, by your surfeit effort and dedication toward making yourself resourceful and >>>http://www.themedia.com.ng/2017/03/behold-we-are-in-small-universe.html |

Editorial: FLAWS IN THE 2017 NIGERIAN AWARDS TENABLE IN NIGERIAN PUBLIC TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS By: Comrade Usman Haruna, 08104772885 http://www.themedia.com.ng/2017/03/editorial-flaws-in-2017-nigerian-federal-scholarship-award.html?m=0 I am pleading to all and sundry to help in the dissemination of this critique, not only that the voices of the students could again be heard by our leaders, but also because it may bring about change, especially in subsequent scholarship programmes by our government. Some may think issue of federal scholarship is not worth writing on, maybe they are unaware, check the breakdown of the budget for education sector and you will realize that it is part of our entitlement. To begin with, the scholarship registration portal, www.government.gov.ng, is not a secured webpage, as such, any information you input on the page is not secured, and it can be hacked, modified or manipulated by intenders. As a matter of fact, this made me not to apply initially, but later decided to try my luck. The government should in future schorlaship programmes create an https (secured), webpage for registrations. One painful thing about the programme is the eligibility criteria for Nigerian Award, which read; For all Undergraduate Scholarship applicants (Physically challenged inclusive) must be in their second year or above and have at least 4.0 Cumulative Grade Points Aggregate (CGPA) on a five (5) point grade scale or its equivalents and 3.5 CGPA for Monotechnics, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, while applicants for Postgraduate Scholarship award should possess a minimum of first degree with Second Class Honors Upper Division. The Government has cut out a larger percentage of her students from the award, it can be established without any need for research that students who are below 4.0 CGPA on a (5) point scale, 3.50 CGPA on a 4 point s and postgraduate students with grades less than Second Class Honors Upper Division are more than those that possess the aforementioned grades. Some people were saying they can’t bring the grade below that because of population, don’t you know how many students do seek for admission through JAMB and how many do successfully gain admission? The government should bring down the point bearable for an average student, for instance, students with 2.50 CGPA should be eligible. Though, I am 4.0+ student, but, that does not mean I should support the cause for the federal government to require only students with 4.0+ for the awards. As opposed to opinions I received from fellow students before we write the scholarship screening at FGC, Kano State, I stood firm on my opinion that a scholarship award from the federal government must be entitled to by average students if not all. And the question that struck my mind was how many of those that set up the scholarship requirements or those that will conduct the screening exercise for us possess 4.0? Ideally, there is not supposed to be provision On reaching the screening center, I thought we would be treated like people who came to write examinations, the reverse was the case. We line up and write our names and verify our credentials in more than 3 different places. As solemn students, we arrived at the screening venue (Federal Government College, Kano State), before 9:00 am, but tactlessly, we wrote the exam after 5pm, while others inclusive of all postgraduate students were asked to come back the following day. Conventionally, scholarship programmes at far distances do feature compensation of transport fare, even if you fail the test, a typical example of NNPC/TOTAL Scholarship programmes. May I confess to you that the examination was a muddle? 2 students shared a question paper at our center here, what a vexation? This is somehow witty and of course, made it known that the examination is nothing to go by for if it will be; maybe it would have been more organized and well scheduled. We wrote the examination but we don’t know our fate, because we did not receive any text message or mail revealing our scores for us. The exams and the results are for us and not for the officials, as such, we supposed to know how performances, else, they are planning something malevolent. If any official should remove, amend or change some data of students, to personalized accounts, no one will know for the reasons stated in the first paragraph of this article. The scholarship programme suffers lack information, right from the time of registration, no communication no information has been passed to those that register for it, as such, students keep asking one another; how much is the scholarship sef? Have you received alert? When will alert enter? Those in other regions, have they received their awards? All these and so many others are questions people keep asking themselves. I will employ anyone reading this to share it, so that some of the recommendations if not all may be effected. Thanks for reading, God bless you as you share. Comrade Usman Haruna, 08104772885 Editor, www.themedia.com.ng.

Stop Complaining About BigBrotherNaija: Just Do These By: The Media Editor A reader of www.themedia.com.ng, who wants to be identified simply as Afonja from Lagos State, Nigeria, has taken different dimensions to the calls for the ban of the reality show #BigBrotherNaija. According to his mail to The Media Editor, "I am an esteem reader of your blog, www.themedia.com.ng, and I have been so worried about how Nigerians disturb themselves calling for the ban of the Big Brother Naija Show. Attached is my opinion on what people should do or focus on rather than complaining deep about BBN". The Mail read. It could be recalled a post for the ban of the show BBNAIJA, was posted on this blog, earlier this month, but this reader has taken a holistic approach saying 'you can just keep your mouth shut about it'. After the mail, the reader picked up the editor's number and message him on Whatsapp Messenger. His whatsapp Message reads... "Gentlemen and ladies... there's already a solution to your problems about bbnaija. ...change the channel #simple. Is it shown on national TV? Must u subscribe to dstv? With all the problems in the country now, the one you have time to focus on is bbnaija as it it's showing on every channel you change to", he wrote furiously on whatsapp. According to Afonja, "Channels on TV are like websites on the internet , you get the ones you go after. There are porn sites on the net, does that mean everyone visits or sees their content? NO. Though, some people are bugged by various adverts of stupid obscene images when browsing, do they simply stop using the internet because of that? No. You simply close the advert and continue with your business. So, what is this rave about bbnaija? Among about 200+ channels on dstv , just one is dedicated to this program I think, people can simply change the channel", he explained to The Media. Are you a fan of BBNAIJA? I'm not a fan of the BBNAIJA Franchise, it is too boring. On this same dstv or gotv, there are educative channels, news channels , entertaining channels, even religious channels , if people are so holy as they claim to be, then let them glue their eyes onto Onegospel or Iqraa or any other religious channels they like. The annoying thing is that people are busy shouting they is a program that should be banned from TV as if it's glued to their TV screen, even if it is, then switch off the TV set or is anyone holding them at gunpoint to watch the program. Don't you think the people should focus on calls for the ban of BBNAIJA? E! channel shows Dr 90210 and playboy mansions etc. How many people have called for the banning of those Channels? Another annoying thing is that with all the problems we are facing in this country now, is banning of BBNAIJA the issue we should be focusing on now? No. It just shows how selectively myopic people can be . Which of the problems Nigeria is facing now will banning BBNAIJA stop, indecency? If BBNAIJA should be ban, what do you suggest? Then we should probably ban all secular musicians and all secular music too. These are songs that even the toddlers know by heart, Watch all the videos of those songs they are exposed, they contain contents that should be at least rated 16+ and BBNAIJA is rated 18+. Your advice to those complaining about BBNAIJA My piece of advice to people that are complaining about BBNAIJA, hmmm, the country is>>>http://www.themedia.com.ng/2017/03/stop-complaining-about-bbnaija-ban-just-do-these.html

IFE MASSARCE: MATTERS ARISING By: Ayoola Imran | Oyo State The ethnic clashes that occurred in Ile - Ife on Wednesday, 8 March, 2017 between the Yorubas and Hausas is worrisome and quite unfortunate. Ethnic clashes have become one of the major threats to our society. Nigeria has become a modern Hobbesian state where human life is valueless and unsecured. A famous Nigerian Musician named Timaya once stated in his music that, 'Every day for Nigeria na so some people dey die o.' There are many miscreants that can send one to the early grave prematurely; Boko Haram and their suicide bombers, armed robbers, herdsmen and angry mob. As of last year 2016, the clash was between Agatus, Southern Kadunas and the unidentified herdsmen. Unfortunately, another violence that broke out this year was between Ifes and the Hausas, herdsmen with the Gbokos and Burukus. Hypocrisy is our problem, we feel provoked and our pens bleed whenever our kinsmen are tortured while we keep mum when others outside our domain are maimed or killed. Herdsmen have been terrorizing fellow Nigerians but we give less attention to that while the Ife massacre have generated hullabaloo on the social media. However, social media plays a significant role in our society while on the other hand; it has become a major source of insensitive report and a threat to jeopardize the national security. THISDAY investigation revealed that trouble started when a Hausa man living at Sabo area of the town allegedly slept with the wife of Ife man who reportedly went berserk when he discovered that his wife slept with the Hausa man. The case could have been lodged to those in authority for proper investigation and persecution, but lawlessness attitude of our jobless and aggressive youths escalated it into an orgy of violence. Photo Credit - Dai Those youths took law into their hands which resulted into a wanton destruction of many innocent lives and properties worth of millions. It's sad and disheartening that some hoodlums took advantage of that to perpetrate the inhuman acts. After watching the tragic video on Youtube, I felt devastated and my heart bled. I asked myself silently; when are we going to get rid of all sorts of this violence and riots? When are we going to learn how to accommodate and tolerate one another? When are we going to become our brothers' keepers? When are we going to shun barbaric attitudes and behave as educated and civilized people? I felt embarrassed and totally disappointed when I came through some illogic and irrational posts on the social media that took side on this issue and turned it into 'we' and 'them' game. Some commentators turned the issue into religious affairs that their fellow kinsmen were maimed and killed because they are Muslims. What a myopic and thought provoking statement! Is there no Muslim among the Ifes? Why do we like linking violence with religion? Those peddling tribalism and religious sentiments, with those posting hate and unpatriotic posts, and the sharers >>>> http://www.themedia.com.ng/2017/03/ife-massarce-matters-arising.html?m=0#more |
