The act of seat reservation is corruption By: Oche Solomon Alas! The hour has come for me to cry and write about the abnormality and elementary behaviours of undergraduates who have become acclimatized to (used) to the act of reserving seats for their boyfriends and girlfriends who usually and intentionally go to lectures late, having it in mind that there would be reservation of seats by their friends who have earlier gone to the lectures in order to be-seated comfortably. Meanwhile, there are other set of students who are likely to go the lecture later, and then, on reaching there, books, bags and other objects will be seen sitting on the chairs. Ask any student sitting close to those chairs; please who is her? She/he would tell you, they are coming. Who are coming? The answer would be the people that own these seats you are seeing. Can’t you see their bags or books? Hu, childish and villageous mentality. I am afraid and of the jingoism that this would one day ignite a fight among our students; therefore, may I categorically make it clear that no one owns any of the seats in the various lecture halls and theatre or, maybe I am unaware that the management of various institutions has shared seats for students. This behaviour of students reserving seats for their friends best known to them, and thereby deny fellow students the seats and watch them standing to receive lectures is childish, evil, abnormal, nonsensically, wickedness, uncalled for, balderdash and of course an act of corruption. Why then, do we all cry almost on daily basis against the wickedness and the corrupt acts of our leaders, while us as individuals, and even as students are corrupt are and giving to the practice of corruption and tomfoolery? May I remind you all that, the people governing or leading us in this country are not animals; neither are they illiterates but educated people, who were educated from primary to secondary school, maybe to university level. Now, they are there eating and wasting the masses money as well as reserving for their unborn generation, those they don’t even know whether they will come into existence. Meanwhile, about 75% of Nigerians are suffering untold and unbearable hardship and you students are here reserving seats for your friends whom you don’t even know whether they will attends the lecture thereby, those you are already seeing in the class the chances of sitting on the chairs. In this case, what is the difference between you and the leaders (Politicians)? I think the differences are: (i) They are no more students; (ii) They are in charge of the masses and their monies while, you (students) are in charge of seats. Meaning that by the time you graduate and return to the society, you will be in charge of the masses and their monies and also engage in the generational money reservation game, saga or tradition. To this end, may I say that your being educated is not only the ability to read and write alone, but also your ability to develop the society with the knowledge you acquire from the school. May I remind you that; Zero Tolerance for Corruption Club (ZTC) is watching you! So, say no to>>>>http://www.themedia.com.ng/2017/03/the-act-of-seat-reservation-is-corruption.html |

President Buhari is just an anti-corruption rhetorician – Dan Aluta By: Muhammad Mubarak Hussein | Kaduna State It is very lugubrious that a great nation (Nigeria), known for her economic strength is diminishing at a fast rate. It is generally concurred that the misappropriation of public funds and lackadaisical approach towards some national issues by the immediate past administration led to this dismay. Dan Aluta - The Media However, Nigerians voted the incumbent APC government, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, whom I believe to be an anti-corruption rhetorician. The present administration has only succeeded in curbing the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-Eastern part of the country. Unequivocally, Nigerians asked for change but unfortunately, the present administration is not the change Nigerians expected. The only change we can see is the change in the presidency, all other things remain constant. Most of the Governors, Senators and Ministers are PDP reverted APC members. However, the sixteen years of the PDP reign was characterized by same set of people, so I totally believe that PDP and APC are one and the only difference is Buhari. Avowedly, the present administration is far from the right track (the track of sustainable development). What we are currently experiencing is part of what has happened in the previous administration. What a melancholy for Nigerians who thought the nation is in a safer hand. The sick policies of this administration are prejudicial to the nation’s future. It disgusting programmes such as empowerment, feeding of school pupils to mention but a few are temporary programmes that has no element of sustainability. As opined by Ayoub (1957), change, if it is to be at all genuine, useful and long-term must come out of the history and tradition of the people concerned. In my own opinion, the only way for Nigeria to deal with political, economic and security challenges is to return to our roots, to evolve our own ideological answers to our problems. Conclusively, the present administration should be creative and innovative and stop <<<read more>>>www.themedia.com.ng/2017/03/buhari-is-just-an-anticurroption-rhetorician.html Muhammad Mubarak Hussein (Dan Aluta) is the former Chairman, Zero Tolerance for Curroption Clube, BUK. SAI BABA'S RETURN: JUBILATION OR PROTEST By: Ayoola Imran [Oyo State] President Muhammadu Buhari finally returned back to Nigeria after 51 days vacation in London. But due to the medical recommendations, he couldn't return on the stipulated 6th, february, 2017. During his absence in the country, haters and rumormongers spread various controversies and speculations concerning the president's state of health. Ayoola Imran - The Media However, they reached to the extent of announcing the president's death. The fake and concocted news made the citizens' heart to pound, thus, making them to be worried. Public Commentators made several calls for the president to voice out, so as to assure that his healthy. But their calls proved abortive. The citizens were left with pictures of the president welcoming some top politicians and visitors in UK. It was obvious that both the 'cabals' and the presidents' spokesmen played the ostrich about the status of the President's health. Hence, prayer warriors, both muslims and christians, organized different prayer sessions for the president recuperation. God so kind, the prayers were answered! As the news of the president's return broke out on Friday, March 10, 2017, many citizens particularly Northerners trooped out on the streets and major roads to celebrate the safe return of the president from London. NAN reports that jubilant crowds took over the busy Abuja - Keffi highway, causing a heavy traffic snarl. Katsina and Bauchi states' jubilant thronged major highways within the metropolis to celebrate the return of the president. In Jos, youths took to the streets dancing and cracking fireworks for their own celebration for the president. Unfortunately, some aggressive youths take the advantage of that jubilation by jubilating in excess; driving recklessly on the roads while others were seen carrying sticks and knives. Is that a jubilation or protest? What is the essence of bringing out sticks and knives? Can't those youths jubilate peacefully? Why driving recklessly as if one is intoxicated? The president is there in the Villa enjoying and relaxing while those Sai Baba are there terrorizing the public in the name of jubilation and celebration. In some other areas such as Gombe, the celebration looks as if the jubilant were celebrating Sallah; slaughtering rams, eating, drinking and dancing. Other citizen view the celebration as public disturbance and infringement on others' rights by singing and barricading the public roads. Those youths should know that we're in the 21st century, therefore they should think out of box and behave maturely and decently. source: www.themedia.com.ng BUK FACULTY OF COMMUNICATIONS: NEW FACULTY; NEW PROBLEMS BY: ABUBAKAR MUSA ABDULLAHI The transformation of Mass Communication Department of Bayero University, Kano to Faculty of Communication is no doubt a remarkable achievement in the history of Mass Communication in Northern Nigeria and Nigeria in general. For a department that has been in existence for almost four decades (39 years), its transformation has come at the right moment, looking at the new trends in the world of journalism. The migration from the old department to the new faculty has left many stones unturned. This is however, related to the problems encountered by the students in some key areas which are so critical to their well-being. These problems are not limited to over-congestion in lecture rooms as some levels that are highly populated such as level 3 and 4 cannot be accommodated in any of the Faculty lecture rooms. This is however, the same if not worse than the lecture rooms in the old department building. Absence of common room, eatery center, absence of Mosques for students and the staff, poor or even absence of transportation system from the hostels to the faculty and most importantly a single entrance gate which makes it difficult for students. Furthermore, students do not have places to rest after lectures as the school has not to my knowledge made any provision for that. The departmental classes and offices are all compressed within the departmental building, and as such, without seats outside; students have no alternative than to roam around. These create disturbances to ongoing lectures and other administrative activities in the departments and therefore affect productivity. To this end, there is urgent need for the university community to address such issues as they are directly or indirectly affecting the well-being of the students and both the academic and non-academic staff as well. Hence, affects students’ academic performance and productivity. Abubakar is the President, Department of Mass Communication, Bayero University, Kano. source: http://themedia.com

A fake video of US President Donald Trump “expressing awe and wonder over a massive crowd gathered around the Kaaba in Makkah” has gone viral on social media. The 28 seconds Video claims US President Donald Trump appraising massive crowd gathered around the Kaaba in Makkah. What kept one wondering is why the video could be that short in length and the President never mention Makkah or Kaaba in his speech, so, I decided to make a desk research on the video. The video was shot when Trump wrapped up his first formal interview at the White House by showing off several photos of his inauguration crowd, once again insisting—inaccurately—that his “audience was the biggest ever.” “Here’s a picture of the event,” Trump said, pointing to a photo showing the audience from what would have been his perspective at the Capitol Building on Jan. 20. “Here’s a picture of the crowd. Now the audience was the biggest ever, but this crowd was massive. Look how far back it goes. This crowd was massive.“ According to Muir, after the president presented a couple more photos, and just before the crew turned to leave, the president told ABC he wanted to show “just one more image.” That last image? Yet another perspective of his inauguration crowd. “One thing this shows is just how far over they go here,” Trump told Muir, gesturing to a large panorama image taken from the side of the crowd. “Look, look how far this is. This goes all the way down here, all the way down—nobody sees that, you don’t see that in the pictures.” “But when you look at this tremendous sea of love—I call it a sea of love—it’s really something special,” Trump added. “Many of these people were the forgotten men and women … and they loved what I had to say,” the president concluded. By all indications, Trump became increasingly fixated on his inaugural crowd size after reports surfaced saying he drew only a third of the number of people to his inauguration as did former President Obama in 2009. The Washington Postreports the new president grew “visibly enraged” on Saturday after seeing that the Women’s March on Washington dwarfed his ceremony a day earlier. I wonder what people tend to achieve by editing videos to tell an opposite side of a story. Similarly, are photoshoped images claiming President Muhammadu Buhari endorsing the popular Ponzi Scheme in Nigeria MMM. source: www.themedia.com

Dear Emir, I hope this letter meets you in good health. May the royal endure, sir. Before I go into the crux of this letter, let me assure you that I will do this with all due respect, and also assure you of many other things. Aside from knowing the honour of your social status, I am a Muslim and have a religious obligation to always show respect to constituted authority, not some unconstitutional “constituted authority”, though. And it is on this ground that I shall give you many more assurances. ALI FAAGBA Dear Sir, I assure you that I will not ask you about the price of your Rolls Royce neither will I tell you that the amount used to procure that kind of car is enough to build scores of schools and hire some efficient teachers. You are a certified and world-class economic expert and therefore you know better. Dear Sir, I further assure you that it will not come to me to question your right to introduce a new legislation that will change the direction of things in our country, although in my entire life, I have never come across poor men introducing legislation on what choice rich men have in their lives. In fact, I appreciate your sense of generosity and patriotism, of course, and that you love your people so much that you are willing to share your expertise on how the ought to live. Sir Emir, the moment you made your intention known to the public, the whole media was awash with your praise. Too many intellectuals continue to gratify your valour and revolutionary mind. Indeed, a new era could be here after all. An era of supposed intelligence leads by sophisticated personalities such as your royal highness. In all sincerity, I currently school in Sokoto and I am one of those who understand better the adverse effect of undesirable polygamy. You, as a man from ruling class, might not even understand this as much as I do, at least not in practice. I live in a house with no gate or security and I don’t have a car. I’m just a day-to-day person to this “Al-Majiris”. We meet everywhere I go. In the mosque, at my door, at the bus-stop and even in the lecture rooms. In short, wherever I may be, beggars have access to that place. As such, I can boast of having seen all sorts of Almajiris. I have seen old women who have no physical defect whatsoever carrying kids around the street in a bleakish chilling morning plying her beggary routes. They wear no cardigan because they can’t afford it. I have seen young kids of comparative young ages holding bowls in a sweltering sun as they go about singing “Kiaye, Kiaye” to the passer-by. I have seen promising boys on the dunghills searching for substances I cannot identify. Should I begin to reel off what I have seen of shaveling beggars, the list will be endless? Therefore, it is justifiable that I’m willing to partake in the decisions that will save them. I have often thought of what to do with no valid conclusion until you recently lend me a voice. To this I say a big thank you. Dear Sir, I can tell you without fear of contradiction that any Almajiri boy is a potential terrorist. With intellectuals sometimes losing their sense in the hand of theocracy, there is no doubt as to the enormity of damage that could be done to the hearts of young boys who had neither sound Islamic knowledge nor Western education. Sometimes, stone heart develops as a result of hardship. It is in this hardship that these young beggars were born and raised. What can’t hardship, too, do to the heart of man? It there for goes that aside from extreme poverty, another adverse effect which this long-lived trend can have is terrorism. It is the juncture at which all of us unite. When young people who have no idea why they are alive languish in penury, I feel we are all poor. When kids who has no idea how they were made are hired, doctored and turned to terrorists we all are in trouble. The bearing of this phenomenon is not limited to one caste without the other, although the degree with which we are affected may vary. Given all these, your move is such a commendable one, once again. However, I have a few contributions to your move Sir, not objection. I dare not object a royal recommendation. In our countries and elsewhere in the world, MDAs and bureaucracies continue to grow. We continue to introduce legislations and policies over and over again. Any time one fails, we work out another to replace it, we even fight for local governments to have autonomy, yet it appears to me that the more we make these legislations, the more human beings lose their autonomy and self-determination. It is not an attack on legislations; it’s a call to caution on them. New policy is not always the answer. We must rein in the multiplication of policies. Why not, Sir Emir, suggest to the Federal Government to abolish some of these agencies and Bureaucracies and leave the incontrovertibly assisting ones? This will surely lower the financial burden on the government and money save therefrom might help us provide education for the ailing minds. Another thing which I think you should look into, sir, concerns the money recovered by this administration from looters, Andrew Yakubu, Diezani and other lots of corruption. It has been rumoured that the Federal Government is willing to use the money to prosecute its infamous pupils-feeding-scheme. Among these pupils are young ones whose parent cannot feed properly at home or foot their transport fare. And there are some among these pupils whose parents have cars or enough money to pay for their transport fare. This simply means that the FG is feeding the poor and the rich equally; while the rich children over-eat the poor one may be having probably just one out of their scheduled two meals per day. What kind of inane scheme is this? That doesn’t multiply the nation’s wealth neither cutback the people's financial burden? Do the FG have any way of knowing whether these kids are underfed or fed with non-nutritional meals? Sir, you can also look into this. What if that money is used to facilitate free transport for children living afar from school premises? We heard that transport to school for secondary and primary pupils Ghana is free. This is not beyond the economy of the latest economy in Africa. Dear Sir, I think educating the minds of this people will have far-reaching effect than making legislation on their behalf. With majority of those who these laws are made for being obtrusively ignorant, will they ever understand the meaning of this legislation? With majority of them thinking they are just following their religious teachings, will this not look, to them, as a fight against religion? I don’t think it’s right to get fanatics and bigots started on religious frenzy again in this country. I am saying this because the effect will get to me as a commoner before it gets to you. Dear Emir, your wealth of knowledge, experience, sophistication, fame and money is not confined to introducing laws. You can channel this wealth to another direction. Why not be a school builder and an employer of teachers of incontrovertible expertise to come and educate this minds in those schools? I heard of your stand against continuous building of mosques that increase religiosity >>>read more>>> http://www.themedia.com.ng/2017/02/dear-emir-your-wealth-of-knowledge-is.html
