The three toll gates planned for Lekki-Epe Expressway is already impacting negatively on the value of property in that axis with about 30 percent differential in the prices of property before and after the toll gates, BusinessDay investigations have revealed. The drop in property value started a couple of years ago when tolling started on the expressway. The drop in property prices had been gradual, beginning with 10 percent and recently, a bit drastic, rising as high as 20 percent. The findings further reveal that there is a major disparity in property values beyond the Chevron Toll Gate, which is the second after the Admiralty Circle. The disparity is such that parcels of land before and after the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) office, whose values were at par when the second toll gate was not there, now have as much as 50 percent value difference between them. Tolling on the expressway has been a subject of unending controversy and litigation, and the contention of those opposing the tolling is not only that the rates are outrageous and inconsiderate, but also that three toll gates on a 49-kilometre expressway are too many and therefore exploitative. Worried about having to pay tolls at different points on the same road before getting to their houses or offices, prospective home buyers and tenants have decided to avoid the Lekki axis, especially those beyond the second and third gates. Gbenga Olaniyan, a resident and developer in the area, disclosed to newsmen that places like Victoria Garden City (VGC) had felt the brunt of this development heavily, explaining that about five years ago, VGC was more costly than Lekki. "A property that was rented for N3.5 million per annum in VGC was at par with Nicon Town, a relatively upscale neighbourhood in Lekki, before the toll gate. But now, while VGC has dropped a little, Nicon Town has gone up 100 percent in four years. "In VGC, a property of N4 million per annum four years ago has dropped to N3.5 million, while a N3.5 million property in Nicon Town four years ago has gone up to N7 million, just because of the toll gate," he said. Samuel Ukpong, CEO, 1004 Estates Limited, had told BusinessDay in an interview that part of the reasons for the rising demand for their apartments was the tolling on Lekki-Epe Expressway, which has compelled some Lekki residents to move over to their apartments. He explained that many of the Lekki residents spend between N500,000 and N600,000 a year on tolls, depending on the number of cars they put on the road, and the number of toll gates they have to pass before getting to their offices or homes. Angry Fani-Kayode Insists On Intimate Relationship With Bianca Ojukwu, Ready For Legal Action A different twist was added to the Femi Fani-Kayode – Bianca Ojukwu saga after a third party, on Monday, claimed that Mrs. Ojukwu was lying about her relationship with the former Aviation Minister. Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo, a Public Relations Specialist, described Mrs. Ojukwu’s claims as “perplexing.” “In the early 80′s there were a group of now affluent Nigerians that flocked together as teens in London, Oxford, Cambridge in the UK and even Wales. We were teen couples. I dated Segun Cole, Lanre Tejuoso and Moji Okoya, Toyin Ojora and Bukola Saraki all became prominent married couples today,” said Ms. Omololu- Olunloyo, daughter of Omololu Olunloyo, the Governor of Oyo State in the Second Republic. “The Folawiyos, Adenirans, Lawrence twins, Olunloyo sisters and more as well as the Fani Kayode’s were all known. “Everyone knows about Femi and Governor Onoh’s daughter. I’m a daughter of a governor too and we all know each other,” Ms. Omololu-Olunloyo added. Mrs. Ojukwu is the daughter of the late C.C Onoh, a Second Republic Governor of the old Anambra State. “I’ve seen Bianca Onoh at numerous social events with Femi and even Femi’s apartments in London, UK and these two almost got married!!! Whatever teen to young adults do in a relationship, namely sex, dating, kissing etc, Femi and Bianca did too,” she added. Ms. Omololu-Olunloyo’s claims emerged just as an angry Mr. Fani-Kayode lashed out to the former beauty queen, on Monday, insisting he had had a relationship with her as well as expressing his readiness to welcome a legal suit. Ms. Omololu-Olunloyo, a self-styled ‘Facebook Drama Queen’, is unpopular for her many controversies on the social media where she regularly hurls abuses on people as well as posts her semi-nude photos. But in her reaction, on Monday morning, to the long drawn saga, Ms. Omololu- Olunloyo posted on her Facebook wall that “the truth needs to be told.” On her personal blog, Ms. Omololu- Olunloyo, 48, wrote that Mr. Fani-Kayode almost married Mrs. Ojukwu when she was 18/19. “There are many people that know this but they may not want to get involved now because they are prominent Nigerians who don’t need to be getting into this dirt,” she wrote. Though she admitted, in her statement that she had not been with the duo during their “intimate moments,” Ms. Omololu- Olunloyo maintained that it would be “immature” to say both persons never met. “Femi does not like fighting women in public domains be it in person or online, in fact he fights for women and once took my back in a situation where a male demeaned me with lies,” she said. “Femi is a faithful husband and a damn good father to his children. I wrote two open letters to Bianca on my Facebook page/MadamGovernor and I certainly hope she drops these meaningless lawsuits as I am prepared to be called as a witness in such a case,” she added. |
whitetip shark is notorious for targeting shipwreck survivors As the shark swam closer to the boat, seasoned skipper David Bond noticed the beast was about 14ft long and probably weighed more than 1,000lb.Then, just as silently as it had appeared, the giant predator sank slowly back into the deep. The close encounter happened on Wednesday near Looe, off the southern coast of Cornwall. It was just one of a number of sightings last week that has prompted fears a great white shark may be ¬lurking off the south-west tip of Britain. While one maneater is enough to chill the bones of even the saltiest ¬seadog, on Monday the respected Angling Times reported that a 10ft ¬oceanic whitetip is also patrolling our waters. The whitetip is notorious for targeting shipwreck survivors, most notably the unfortunate -sailors who clung to wreckage of the USS Indianapolis after it was torpedoed during the Second World War in the Pacific Ocean. In the hit 1975 film Jaws, ¬Robert Shaw’s character Quint famously reveals he survived the USS ¬Indianapolis frenzy and had hated sharks ever since. Terrorising the shores of Cornwall, fishermen say this is the largest they’ve seen Angling Times said scientists in the UK and US had studied a ¬photograph of bite marks on a blue shark caught off Falmouth and concluded a whitetip was the culprit.Shark expert David Turner believes the warm summer has attracted sharks not normally seen in British seas. He said: “The water temperature is higher than it normally is on account of the decent weather we have had this year. That could have attracted large predatory sharks that are not usually found off our coast. “This summer has definitely seen more shark sightings than previous years but we are not quite sure why.” The first of the latest sightings this summer of a suspected great white came on Tuesday when a giant shark swam alongside a ¬lobster boat for a few seconds. It was the briefest of glimpses but the fisherman on board said he had never seen a shark that size before. A day later, Mr Bond and Ian Harbage aboard the shark fishing boat Mystique were scanning the sea when the giant fin broke the water. An ominous dark shape appeared twice, about 75 yards from the boat, before slipping away. By the time Mr Harbage had gone to fetch a camera, it was too late. Later that afternoon a third fishing crew were stunned to see a huge fish breach the water and as they got closer they ¬estimated the fin to be easily six or seven feet away from the tip of the tail. In all three cases, the skippers discounted a harmless plankton-eating basking shark, regular giants off Cornwall in summer. They all believe a great white is a possibility yet, perhaps worried about being teased back in the pub, will not say so. The only other explanation is that it could be a big porbeagle or a mako, relatives of the great white, but they very rarely exceed 10ft on this side of the Atlantic. Mr Turner, 66, said: “A great white has to be a serious ¬contender. David and Ian said they got the impression from the fin that what they saw could have been an enormous porbeagle but they didn’t see the fin in profile only at an angle and, to me, it sounds far too big to be a porgie or a mako shark. The doomed USS Indianapolis, pictured in 1942 [GETTY] Fishermen say they have never seen any shark nearly as big before David Turner “Another skipper who saw both fin and tip of the tail said the two were at least six or seven foot apart, meaning the total length of the shark must have been 13 to 14ft. He said it -probably weighed about 1,000lb.“All the reports last week were from around Looe and within a couple of days. In one case it came ¬alongside one of the boats but the skipper couldn’t identify it. “Shark fishermen are very wary of reporting great whites, as they are concerned they won’t be taken seriously. Yet all who have seen this monster, and they have been fishing these waters for years, say they have never seen any shark nearly as big before.” As the Sunday Express revealed last week a number of blue sharks have been caught over the past couple of weeks with strange bite marks. Cornish fisherman, Nigel Hodge, caught a 60lb blue but watched in horror as another shark, described as being about 10ft in length attacked it off the coast of Falmouth. The attack was initially thought to have been by a great white or a larger blue shark but photos of the bite marks were shown to UK and US experts, who believe it to be an oceanic whitetip. They were branded “the most dangerous of all sharks” by famed oceanograper Jacques Cousteau and although normally found in warmer waters, but one was caught in 2004 off the western coast of Sweden. Recalling his battle with the shark, Mr Hodge told Angling Times: “I played it for a while before pulling it alongside my boat where I got a good look at it before it broke free. I pulled the smaller fish aboard and took photos so we could find out what attacked it. If you were a carp angler it would be like reeling in a ¬specimen fish and it getting snatched by a ¬crocodile.” SOURCE: http://www.informationng.com/2013/09/shark-that-ate-600-us-sailors.html

I just heard a report that Yoruba actress Bisi Ibidapo-Obe, who was accused of causing a lot of confusion in the home of former House of Reps member, Hon Dino Melaye, with her pregnancy claims is now vindicated. Reports claim that Dino Melaye is said to have accepted full responsibility for Bisi’s daughter. Bisi put to bed six months ago and she told anyone who cared to listen that she camped Dino in her house when he visited Lagos back then and they slept together, resulting in pregnancy; But Dino said the actress may be suffering from afternoon dream, claiming nothing of such happened. Reliable sources now claim that Dino has sent people to Bisi, indicating his interest to take full responsibility for their baby and Bisi, who’s on tour, is expected to meet Dino on her return to Nigeria. Let’s watch and see!!! http://www.informationng.com/2013/09/dino-melaye-finally-claims-responsibility-for-actress-bisi-ibidapos-child.html |
For the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh, life must go on. Many will recollect that the former legislator's tenure as the Speaker of the lower House was fraught with controversies that eventually led to her exit. Keeping a low profile afterwards, Etteh, who hails from Oyo State, withdrew from all social activities and did not deem it necessary to make a return to the social scene even after she was cleared of all corruption charges. For those who are wondering what she has been up to lately, the country's first female Speaker is now a student at the prestigious Buckingham University, United Kingdom. She is studying law. Incidentally, one of her course mates is the son of the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nuhu Ribadu. She is said to live in a posh apartment in Milton Keynes from where she commutes to and fro campus. INFORMATION NIGERIA shared the following link and had this to say about it: #TRIBUTES_TO_SAMUEL_OKWARAJI It is exactly 8760 days since the exit of the country’s first football martyr. August 12, 1989 will forever be etched in the minds of football fans as one of the darkest moments in Nigerian football history. Without notice, death combed the sports scene and froze the hands of the golden boy of African football, Samuel Okwaraji. Fans had thronged the National Stadium, Lagos, with the aim of watching the Green Eagles outshine a boastful Angolan side in a make or mar Italia '90 World Cup qualifier. Little did they know that an Eagle was threading the valley of death. As if the centre referee knew that match was going to be his last, he gave the dreadlocked star his own parting gift by showing him a yellow card for a needless tackle and with about 10 minutes left to play, this midfield impressio, who held in reserve his gavel of justice for a pair of soccer boots, bade the world goodbye as he slumped and died. Samuel Okwaraji was to Nigeria what Pele is to Brazil and Maradona is to Argentina. He was an epitome of flair, commitment and doggedness and till his last breath, he gave his all for fatherland. Not minding whether his memorial bust at the National Stadium is polished regularly or left to the dictates of varying weather conditions, we must continue to eulogize this patriotic Nigerian who spoke seven languages fluently. He was one of the many discoveries of German tactician Manfred Hoener in an era that is still regarded as part of the glory days of Nigerian football. He went for the tackles, aerial balls and in fact did more than his fair share of safe guarding the perimeter of the 18-yard box to earn himself a place in Nigeria’s first Olympic team in 1988. This enigma, who shared common hairstyles with Holland star Ruud Gullit, eternally played himself with amazing skills, into the consciousness of every Nigerian from the day he began his astonishing debut for the Eagles on January 30, 1988 at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu. Unlike footballers of today, he did not leave the football shores of Nigeria for the greener pastures of Europe to get a call-up to the national team. He was in Europe for something else entirely when his unrelenting passion to serve fatherland as a footballer got hold of him. He went to Europe to study Law and he earned a Masters degree. It was at this juncture of indispensability at club side, Okwaraji's heart became so sore and the only healing medicine was to play for the Green Eagles. Though overlooked by national team selectors on several occasions, it did not kill his unending love to play for Nigeria. He soon had his chance to play for fatherland but his club would not hear of it. His club manager asked the NFA to pay an estimated cost of $45, 000 for their star player’s match bonus and an expected loss in the club's gate taking for the period in which he would be on national duty. Hearing about this agreement, this patriot hit back at his club saying: “I signed to play football for you on certain conditions, but I don't think it includes reselling my services to my country. You cannot stop me playing for my country and let me tell you, I am going to represent my country in the World Cup in Italy whether you like it or not and I would very much like for you to be there." Unlike some players who today hold the nation to ransom on bloated winning bonuses and flight ticket refund, Okwaraji paid his way to play for Nigeria without asking for a dime. He would come to camp uninvited and beg the coach to throw the jerseys on the floor for players to fight for. It was this move that heralded the era of throwing the camp open. He was not afraid to put his career on the line for his country. He put his life on the line too. Former national team coach Paul Hamilton told Goal: “Whether he was invited or not, he would travel down to battle for a place in the team even when he won’t be paid a dime. He is definitely a man to be remembered for all he has done for Nigerian football. A foundation should be set in his honour to cater for the family he left behind." At the Maroc '88 Africa Cup of Nations, he shone like a million stars and in the process was named man of the match twice and his wonder strike against Cameroon was an icing on the cake as it stood till date as one of the fastest goals in the African football fiesta. Okwaraji was committed to the true service of his nation. For the love of Nigeria, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji died at the National Stadium, Lagos from a congestive heart failure 24 years ago. He was aged 25. Former team mate Etim Esin remembers the impact of his death on the national team's hope of qualifying for its first World Cup. “A very great footballer! He was the first player to wear a dreadlock in the national team which was strange to Nigerian football at that time. His death cost us the Italia '90 World Cup ticket because we were all scared to slump. I still recall that at the airport enroute Cameroon, Peter Rufai,[Richard] Owubokiri and some players dropped out,” Esin told Goal. This love for country went beyond him on the pitch as he craved for a conducive environment created where up and coming footballers could express themselves and be recognized. And against the old order of picking players based on sentiments, he wanted a vibrant, agile and a resourceful national team in place at all times. As we continue to talk and write about him, the questions begging for answer are: Has he been celebrated enough considering his selfless service to the country and circumstances leading to his death? Why is it a near impossible task for our football administrators to keep to their simple promise of resting his jersey number 6 among other pledges? Well, like the Elton John hit Candle in the Wind, Samuel Okwaraji’s candle burned out long before his legend ever will. ***SHARE WITH FRIENDS*** https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151669534664822&set=a.10150500850939822.380848.138759939821&type=1&relevant_count=1 |
A Kenyan lawyer has filed a petition with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, suggesting that the trial and crucifixion of Jesus Christ was unlawful, and The State of Israel among others should be held responsible, Kenyan news outlet the Nairobian reported on Friday. Dola Indidis, a lawyer and former spokesman of the Kenyan Judiciary is reportedly attempting to sue Tiberius (Emperor of Rome 42 BC-37AD), Pontius Pilate, a selection of Jewish elders, King Herod, the Republic of Italy and the State of Israel. “Evidence today is on record in the bible, and you cannot discredit the bible,” Indidis told Kenyan Citizen News. Yes, those he suggests should have been convicted during the original trial have not been alive for more than 2000 years, however Indidis insists that the government for whom they acted can and should still be held responsible. “I filed the case because it’s my duty to upholdthe dignity of Jesus and I have gone to the ICJ to seek justice for the man from Nazareth,” Indidid told the Nairobian. “His selective and malicious prosecution violated his human rights through judicial misconduct, abuse of office bias and prejudice.” Indidis apparently named the states of Italy and Israel in the lawsuit because upon the attainment of independence, the two states incorporated the laws of the Roman Empire, those in force at the time of the Crucifixion. He is challenging the mode of questioning used during Jesus’ trial, prosecution, hearing and sentencing; the form of punishment meted out on him while undergoing judicial proceedings and the substance of the information used to convict him. The case was first filed in the High Court in Nairobi, but was rejected. Indidis had then applied to have it heard at the ICJ, which, the Kenyan news website Standard Media(SDE) reported constituted a pre-trial panel that would consider his case. Indidis says he wants to establish what crime Jesus was charged with and prays that the court decides “that the proceedings before the Roman courts were a nullity in law for they did not conform to the rule of law at the material time and any time thereafter.” “Some of those present spat in his face, struck him with their fists, slapped him, taunted him, and pronounced him worthy of death,” Indidis also told SDE. When Jesus died, Indidis insists he was not given an opportunity to be heard. “I am suing as a friend,” he said. Indidis insisted on the validity of his case, saying “I know with a matter of fact and truth we have a good case with a high probability of success and I hope it is done in my lifetime.” When asked about the case, a spokesperson from the IJC told legal news website Legal Cheek, “The ICJ has no jurisdiction for such a case. The ICJ settles disputes between states. It is not even theoretically possible for us to consider this case.” |
Minister of Special Duties and Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North, Taminu Turaki, on Thursday said that engaging in constructive dialogue with key members of Boko Haram had remained a “major challenge” for the Presidential Committee on Amnesty. Turaki made the disclosure in Abuja at a meeting with foreign diplomats in the country, following the two-month extension granted the committee by President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday to bring peace to the northern part of the country. The committee which was inaugurated in April has achieved little or nothing ever since, and at a time claimed a cease fire agreement was signed with members of Boko Haram to last the Ramadan season, a claim Boko Haram was quick to refute even before further attacks during Ramadan in Borno and Kano proved the purported cease fire deal was a ruse. Turaki told members of the diplomatic corps that “this committee is focused and as far as our terms of reference are concerned, we have been able to achieve a lot”. He listed some of the committee’s achievements to include securing the release of women and children of alleged Boko Haram members who were wrongly detained by security operatives and building “confidence and trust” of some of the group’s members. According to him, the ongoing dialogue with some critical members of the group would help the committee to recommend a comprehensive and workable framework for resolving the insecurity in the country. “We hope that very soon and within the timeframe the president gave us, this committee will be able to conclude the dialogue, as much as practicable. “This will then enable the appropriate government agency to sign a cease fire agreement that will see the end of this insurgency,” he said. |
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has warned his Governor Peter Obi of Anambra not to incite the Igbos against the Lagos state government, following the recent resettlement of some Igbo destitute to Onitsha. Speaking with newsmen, Thursday,Fashola, after inspecting the on-going light rail project and Jetties in Mile 2 area of Lagos, Fashola accused Obi of playing politics with the matter and using the media to blow the issue out of proportion. He expressed his disappointment at not receiving a call from Gov Obi before he turned the issue into a media issue. “There is too much at stake for anyone to begin to incite the Igbo community against their host state. There is too much at stake here. It is a very dangerous and unwarranted precedent. “And I hope that common sense will prevail here. Also those who are baying for blood should know that there is too much at risk here. When I get a formal complaint from the government of Anambra State or notification from the Presidency, I will lay the facts bare. “It is unfortunate that my colleague governor has made this a media issue. As I speak, I haven’t received any telephone call or letter from him to complain and I don’t think that is the way government works. On less important matters like this, he had called me before,” he stated. According to Fashola “this is a political season and Anambra will be up for contest and in a political season, unusual things happen and perhaps we are living in an interesting times. And some of the evidence was when one see two adults kissing on television, it tells you that some things are afoot.” Fashola described as regrettable the way issues of governance has been trivialized or tried on the pages of newspaper. Reacting to Anambra governor reporting him to the presidency on the issue, Fashola said he was not aware if there was any place in the constitution that gave the president powers to adjudicate in disputes between states. “Yes, I know that the president has a moral authority because he is the head of the sovereign state of the country. But I am not aware that the constitution states that the dispute between states should be settled by the Presidency. “If Anambra State has an issue on this matter, and they feel aggrieved, they should call or write to us. I feel that the final arbiter should be the court. And it is really important to say that our hospitality in Lagos state is legendary. And it is a global legend that the people of Lagos State are hospitable people and so is the present government of the state and previous administrations,” he said. Fashola stated that there is a large Igbo population in the state involved in many commercial activities, doing their business peacefully while the state government is working tirelessly to provide the required transport system, that would help improve the travel time and their businesses. Company Where Workers Never Leave The Office 1 August, 2013 Foreign It's past midnight, but many staffers at Enplug, an advertising-technology company, are milling about the office in their T-shirts and boxers, writing code and talking strategy. Others are already in bed, sound asleep. Enplug's office is a six-bedroom, three-bathroom Ranch-style home in the ritzy Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles. Twelve of the company's 37 employees, including the chief executive, live and work there. The idea is to live and breathe work—24 hours a day, seven days a week—without the commute and few outside distractions. Employees and managers meet, work, eat, clean, exercise and sleep in the same space. And while there are occasional uncomfortable moments, such as nudging your boss to do the dishes, companies like Enplug say it is good for professional relationships, saves on rent and travel costs and is often just plain fun. Employees who choose to live in such arrangements are generally single 20-somethings who have recently left dorm life. "We don't try to separate work life from our personal life," says Nanxi Liu, the 23-year-old co-founder and CEO of Enplug, which creates digital billboards, incorporating tweets and other social-media streams. "It's a little bit cultish," she says. "It is also extremely efficient." At the Enplug house, work literally gets done around the clock. Engineers often pull all-night coding sessions and roll out of bed around midday, while account managers wake up hours earlier to attend client meetings that are typically held offsite in cafes or clients' offices. "We work 24/7. We code. We go to bed. We wake up. We code," says Alex Ross, 23, the firm's chief technology officer and one of Ms. Liu's roommates. Enplug's five co-founders, most of them recently out of college, started rooming together last year to save money, working out of their small apartment—a familiar scenario for many startups. But as the company grew, they maintained their live-work arrangement. Instead of renting a separate office space, the Enplug staff simply moved into a bigger house. Most of the staffers living in the house get paid a modest stipend in lieu of salary, while the founders forgo salaries altogether, funneling company earnings back into rent, utilities and large boxes of Cheerios. Chores such as housecleaning and dishes are shared among the roommates and a maid comes in once a month to clean, but there are basically no formal house rules. Two Enplug employees got married to each other just weeks before moving into the house in November. "We were a little skeptical living together with lots of people in the house," says Bruno Denuit-Wojcik, who moved in with his wife Justyna. The couple, both Enplug software developers in their 30s, say the practical perks, such as free food and rent, make up for the lack of privacy. Source: http://news.naij.com/42141.html

Mr Singh spends his days tending cows in 47C heat, yet the only 'cleansing' he does allow himself is a 'fire bath' each evening, which involves smoking marijuana, praying to the Hindu Lord Shiva and dancing around a bonfire. His long-suffering family admit they did once tried to force him into a stream.'He fought us off and ran away,' said wife Kalavati Devi, 60. 'We've tried several times since to force him to have a shower but he puts up such a fuss.'He says he'd rather die than take a bath and only a son could change his mind. DAILYMAIL

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Benin zone, on Friday threatened that the ongoing strike embarked upon by the union could be prolonged if President Goodluck Jonathan repeated the mistakes of previous administrations. Addressing journalists at the University of Benin main campus, Coordinator of the zone and member of the National Executive Council of ASUU, Dr. Sunny Ighalo, said the strike could be indefinite if government remained insensitive to lecturers’ plight and refused to honour the agreement it had with the union. Giving an update on the three-week strike, Ighalo said this time around, the action would be total and comprehensive in all Nigerian universities. Ighalo said members would not shift ground except government honoured the agreement it entered into with ASUU, adding that members would not yield to government’s threat of no-work-no-pay rule. He said, “It is clear that the Jonathan government has not learnt anything from the mistakes of previous governments in Nigeria that are notoriously known for fragrant disregard for agreements, due process and rule of law. “Government must be compelled to find a solution to the brain drain issue and infrastructure decay in the system. This is what this ongoing strike action is all about. All these problems are a product of underfunding and deliberate neglect of our universities by the government. The 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement is meant to arrest these problems and restore our universities to the path of progress and reckoning. “We are on strike for the same reasons of government insensitivity, unwillingness and inability to keep and implement the agreement it entered with ASUU. “The major source of problem in Nigeria’s universities has been government’s gross underfunding of the universities and lack of basic infrastructure including research equipment for sound academic learning and relevant studies by students and lecturers.” Ighalo said the strike was aimed at rescuing the country’s universities from further decline and urged stakeholders, including parents, to hold the Federal Government accountable for the “wasteful period the exercise would last.” Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/ASUU-threatens-to-prolong-strike/ |
