PoliticsOsun Elections Will Be The Best Ever, Jega Vows by Consultville(op): 1:53pm On Jul 23, 2014
Basking in the success of recent Ekiti State polls, Professor Attahiru Jega, the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on Wednesday promised to make the 9 August Osun state gubernatorial election the best ever to be conducted in Nigeria.

Jega who said this while giving his opening speech at an experience sharing dialogue with media professionals said the commission hopes to make the Osun polls “the best election to be conducted in the country and much, much better than the Ekiti election.”
He also said the success of Ekiti election was the outcome of various reforms process the Commission has implemented to reform its processes since the conclusion of 2011 general elections.

According to the INEC Chairman, the reforms include cleaning up of the voters register and the introduction of Permanent Voters’ Cards, launch and implementation of a strategic plans to ensure qualitative elections in 2015, restructuring of INEC and training and retraining of permanent and ad hoc staffs.

He said with the reforms, INEC has done a lot to improve operational matters and logistics for conduct of elections and distribution of electoral materials. Jega noted that though some of the reforms were implemented in the Anambra election, the mix up in the distribution of election materials which resulted in a lot of hullabaloo did not allow the public to appreciate them.
But the INEC Chairman said many of the reforms became evident and contributed to making the election the best yet to be conducted by the Commission.

Jega listed the specific factors that contributed to the success of Ekiti election to include early preparation, extensive training of the ad hoc staff, with members of NYSC used for the election trained for seven weeks, efficient and early deployment of electoral materials through a decentralisation system which ensured that 95 per cent of polling units opened by 8 am and increased stakeholders’ engagement.
He also said contrary to the claims of some stakeholders, large scale deployment of men of security agencies played significant roles in the success of the election.

The Chairman of INEC also said contrary to claims in some quarters, the Commission did colour coding of the ballot papers while result sheets were also customised to specific polling booths.
Jega said the Commission is already replicating everything it did in Ekiti in Osun to make the State 9 August election a success.

He however acknowledged the fact with 30 Local Governments, compared to Ekiti 16, Osun will be a bigger challenge in terms of size and complexity for the Commission.

The INEC Chairman said the Commission has recognised this and is factoring it into its plans. Jega added that part of the arrangements to make the Osun State credible was the the replacement of the Resident Electoral Commissioner.
He said the former Osun REC has done nothing wrong and the allegations against him cannot be proven, the Commission has to replace him to lessen complaints that may affect the credibility of the elections. Jega described the replacement of the REC as painful.
“Everything is on course to have free and fair elections in Osun State on August 9,” Jega who said the Commission is also doing its best to ensure that the 2015 elections is successful said while calling of politicians and the media to cooperate with Commission to make this happen.
PoliticsBREAKING NEWS: Chidoka Named Aviation Minister, Oyeyemi Becomes FRSC Boss by Consultville(op): 1:41pm On Jul 23, 2014
President Goodluck Jonathan TODAY named the former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Osita Chidoka, as the new Minister of Aviation.

He also named a former lecturer at the University of Abuja, Dr. Suleman Abubakar, as the Minister of National Planning and Deputy Chairman of the National Planning Commission.

Jonathan made the announcement after the swearing in of the two new ministers shortly before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.

The President also named Deputy Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi as Chidoka’s successor in the FRSC.

He urged the new government officials to ensure that they leave their footprints in the offices they were deployed in.

On Oyeyemi, Jonathan said he decided to appoint him from the commission in order to ensure stability.

This, he added, was a clear departure from what had been obtainable in the FRSC since its inception when its heads were appointed from outside the system.

PoliticsPDP Governors Caution Jonathan Against 2015 Re-election Bid by Consultville(op): 1:59pm On Jul 18, 2014
The Peoples Democratic Party governors have advised President Goodluck Jonathan on the two things he must do before declaring his re-run ambition in the 2015 general election.
The governors, who were in a meeting with Jonathan in Abuja at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday and Wednesday, advised him not to declare his second term ambition yet because of the abducted Chibok girls as well as the security challenges currently bedeviling the country.
According to Punch, the governors, while assuring the president of their undying support towards his re-election bid, noted that the nation’s mood was not ready for such a declaration.

The governors advised the president to put the mood of the nation into consideration before making an open declaration.

The governors therefore gave the president two options: either to visit Chibok, Borno State, or allow the abducted schoolgirls parents to visit him at the Presidential Villa.

“The meeting was a painstaking one. We considered so many things. We talked about so many issues. While it was true we spoke about how to reposition the party and the gains we are making across the country ahead of the 2015 general elections, we also considered the probability of when the President could make his open declaration. Some of my colleagues argued that the time was ripe, but others felt that the mood of the country and even the international community are not favourable. We argued that if the President declares now, it will be seen as being politically bad and not in the best interest of the nation and that it could be termed as being against the spirit of fatherhood.

“The President was advised to meet with the parents of the girls, even if some are going to see it as coming a bit late. It is better done now instead of allowing it go into history that the President did not visit or invite them for a meeting,” one of the governors said.

However, one of the governors questioned why the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to issue guidelines for the general election.

“We know that the campaigns are for him and part of efforts to strengthen the image of the government and that of the President. The Opposition does not have this opportunity” he said.

It’s Overflow time at RCCG Congress

on December 08, 2013 / in Worship 5:55 am / Comments

By SAM EYOBOKA

THE Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, has perfected plans to host the most exciting Holy Spirit-charged festival that will feature exhilarating music ministration, seminars and teachings often laced with loads of miracles and life-imparting prophecies.

Briefing newsmen in his office at the new RCCG Secretariat, the Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola said the church has done everything possible to have a successful Holy Ghost Congress—a special annual spiritual fiesta which began in 1998—assuring that there will be no traffic mayhem on the ever busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as a result of the programme.

According to Odesola who was flanked by his assistant, Pastor Goke Aniyeloye and the managing editor of the church’s official magazine, Redemption Light, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, the theme of this year’s event which begins tomorrow is; “The Overflow.” “The Overflow we are talking about is not just for the church, it’s for the whole nation. All of us could benefit from it,” he said, noting that there is tremendous hope for Nigeria.
“Once we are still able to raise the banner of praise unto the Lord, there’s hope for us. People are worried about what may happen to Nigeria by 2015, I want to assure you that as long as God is on the throne, it’ll be well with the nation. It cannot get worse by the grace of God.

“The essence of the programme is that we want Nigerians to join hands with us to pray that God will restore our nation. We also urge Nigerians to pray without ceasing for our government and leaders. You can say anything about the president or the governor and all those who are in authority, but there’s something we believe; according to the Bible, nobody can get to any position except God permits him or her.
“So whether we like those people or not; whether we voted for them or not; they are God’s choice and we should be praying that they will lead us well,” he urged.

On provision of infrastructure at the camp to accommodate the ever growing number of participants, Pastor Odesola maintained that there was no way the church can provide facilities that will adequately accommodate participants. Nevertheless, he said the church which generates its own power and provides its own water, had put in place several measures for the comfort of the participants expected from far and near for the programme.
“One way or the other, people have stereotyped the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway traffic with RCCG, and that is absolutely untrue. The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was commissioned in 1977 when there was no-body along this road. No town, no village, and not much vehicles. There has been no expansion since then, so you can expect this kind of thing. But thank God for recent palliative measures the govern-ment is taking on the road.

“You can move round the camp to see the number of car parks the church has invested so much money on to ensure that nobody parks on the road. RCCG has done everything possible to ensure that we do not constitute a nuisance on the road. If people park out there, it would be public transporters. You know; whether there’s a programme or not, they have their own way of doing things. While we are expecting a multitude, we also want to ensure that there is little or no constraint of traffic during the one week period,” he maintain-ed.
Asked about the state of loud speakers within the auditorium, Pastor Odesola said the church had received a considerable number of equipment to effectively cover the auditor-ium, pointing out, that the German company which would have supplied all the equip-ment had delayed because it is involved in preparations for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

He nevertheless maintained that sound quality at this congress would definitely be better than last year’s, stressing “in the last three months, we have procured close to 5,000 units of micro speakers that can go for sound and for music from Germany. At the moment, we’ve received about 4,000 out of the 7,000 we ordered.”
Pastor Adeboye and other anointed ministers of God including the National Presid-ent of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor will be ministering just as various choirs including Vinesong, a non-denominat-ional team of missionaries, who spread the gospel through worship and the word almost 11 months of every year would be on parade. Though the team members are from different nations, Vinesong founded by John Watson, is based in the UK.

Holy Ghost Congress began in 1998 when over seven million individuals were said to have gathered at the Lekki Beach in a landmark event, reminiscent of the congregation of the children of Israel in the days of Moses, to celebrate the proginator of Christianity, Jesus Christ with astounding miracles following.
That first edition was called the Holy Ghost Festival, Lekki 98. Subsequent editions have moved to the Holy Ghost Arena at the Redemption Camp, first as a 3-day event, and later as an all week-long affair.

PoliticsMark Blasts Ondo Senator For Failing To Receive Him At Akure Airport by Consultville(op): 12:16am On Nov 12, 2013
The Senate President, Senator David Mark yesterday expressed dissatisfaction over the non-appearance of a Senator representing Ondo State Northern Senatorial District, Senator Ajayi Borofice, at the 60th anniversary of the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom , Oba Victor Kiladejo which held during the weekend.

Mark, who was to be conferred with a chieftaincy title, as part of the activities lined for the anniversary, stated that he was surprised to see only two of the three Senators representing the state. The Senators present at the event were Boluwaji Kunlere (Ondo South) and Senator Ayo Akinyelure (Ondo Central). Mark said the third Senator ought to have been present.

The Senate President, who spoke at the Anniversary Lecture and book launch commemorating the 7th Installation Anniversary and the 60th Birthday Celebrations of the
Paramount Ruler, said the event was not political but only a gathering for celebrations.
His words, “when I came down from the aircraft, I was expecting to see my three bosses. You know as a Senate President, I have 108 bosses. I was looking forward to seeing the three from this state. But I saw only two, Boluwaji Kunlere and Ayo Akintelure.

“This is not a matter of political parties. I do not belong to the same political parties with your Governor, and here
I am commending him for the good things he had done based on what I saw on ground when I visited the medical complex.

“The third Senator that is not here today would have to explain to me
why he is not here because this is not a matter of political parties.

“A member of my party is doing something today, but I have to be here as well because of the respect I have for the oba and the people of Ondo.
It is not about political party but about the people”.

He then appreciated Ondo Monarch for the unprecedented transformation
recorded during his reign, appealing to the people of the community to
work in unison to support the traditional ruler for the sake of peace
and progress of the ancient community.

PoliticsRight-of-way: Bayelsa Demolishes Dickson’s Private Home by Consultville(op): 9:14am On Oct 31, 2013
Bayelsa State Government on Wednesday demolished a one-storey private building owned by Governor Seriake Dickson because it obstructed the Right-of-Way as well as intruding on the state Capital City Master Plan.             .

The demolished building, which had been marked by the Capital City Development Authority on June 28, 2012, was situated along the Opolo/AIT Road, Yenagoa, the state capital.

The demolition, which began about 12.48 pm, was supervised by the Deputy Governor John Jonah; Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Lawrence Ehwrudjakpor; Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Markson Fefegha; Commissioner for State Capital City Development; and Mr. Konugha Zuwa.

Other structures affected by the demolition exercise included that of the Director General of the State Agency for the Control of AIDS,  Dr. Temple Iluma.

Jonah told journalists that the location of the Governor’s house obstructed the Right-of-Way, hence there would be no compensation for him.

He said, “In line with the development control of the CCDA and urban renewal of the state, the government awarded contract for the dualisation of the road. Anyone who has built structures on the Right-of-Way should expect such buildings to be demolished.

“We have been talking about the master plan as well as some areas where we have to carry out urban renewal. For the master plan, we expect every builder to go and get clearance before he or she starts to build to see the extent that he can go outside the road.

“One of the houses we have found to have interfered with the plan of Yenagoa is this one-storey structure belonging to the Governor. On the advice of the CCDA that is concerned with development control of the state, the house was marked since last year for demolition. And you know we have awarded contract for the dualisation of the Opolo Road.”

However, some Yenagoa residents on Wednesday said the exercise was politically-motivated, notwithstanding that the governor’s house was affected.

The residents, who claimed that only a section of Dickson’s building was demolished, said the exercise was a strategy to enable the government to demolish buildings of perceived opponents without causing public outrage.

None of the complaining residents however agreed to be quoted.

In his comment, Ehwrudjakpor said the demolition had been on for some time and listed the affected areas to include Ovom, Igbogene, Imgbi, Diete_Spiff and Eradiri road expansion.
