Culture / Do Teenagers Have Too Much Freedom This Days? by convenantudoh(m): 7:21am On Nov 11, 2014 |
Do Teenagers have too much freedom? Well I think no, I will discuss why people might take the responsibilities that restrict teenager freedom, their expectations and how it is just parent to afraid to let their children go. First of all teenagers have a lot to deal with and have a lot of responsibilities. They have jobs, going through puberty. And on top of that they are trying to prove themselves responsible and grown up to their parents. A lot more teenagers are moving but younger and younger these days. And if parents would understand them a bit more then it wouldn't be so stressful for teenagers. Secondly school takes away a lot of freedom. Freedom of time, originality, choices, freedom of speech and even freedom we have after school. "School and homework take up most of the little time I have. During work, school and sleeping there's no time to do anything else. Not even in the holidays." Says Ryan Yang, an average, normal 6th form, seventeen year old student from School of the Nations. This is important to know because most teenagers are struggling with this "freedom." This usually leading in poor school results, too much pressure and teenagers dropping out of school and society. Parents hold back a lot of their children's freedom. They like to make sure their children do not make the mistakes they made when they were younger, failing to realize that they are holding their children back from experience. Also parents have a lot of expectations for their children to go to school, get good grades, not talk back and to do what their told when their told, so where is the freedom in that? I think that parents are scared to let their children into the world fearing that then will loose touch, or not surviving the world. As Good Charlotte (the rock band) have quoted in one of their songs "The River" 'To the praying mother and the worried father let your children go if they come back, they'll come home stronger and if they don't you'll know.' This is important because parents have to know what their doing, or in some cases what their not doing and that is not giving insufficient amounts of liberty to their young adults. Some people say that too much freedom for a teenager will just give them room to cause trouble. I do not agree with this. Teenage freedom will give them room and time to find who they are, time to build an identity and to leave the roost. To brake away from their childish ways and become an adult. As my mother says, "You have to learn to fend for yourself sometimes, I don't want you to live with me until your thirty." Living with my mother until I am thirty could probably happen if I do not get enough freedom to learn the ropes of life. So do teenagers have too much freedom? Freedom to run loose, cause havoc, find out who they are, and find their own identity which is essential for becoming an adult? No, they do not have too much freedom; they have exactly the right amount they need in order to gain the knowledge that will help them survive when they have to fend for themselves. |

Fashion / Consider This When Dressing For Work!!! by convenantudoh(m): 10:17pm On Oct 28, 2014 |
Wearing appropriate business attire can go a long way in getting the job, getting the client, or moving up the corporate ladder. However, knowing what an appropriate work wardrobe is can be confusing, as it can vary depending on the industry, the company culture and your job. Before deciding what to wear to work, consider the following: LOOK AT THE INDUSTRY Some industries are considered more traditional or conservative, while others are more progressive or contemporary. There may be a traditional business dress code for your industry. WHAT IS YOUR COMPANY BRAND? The industry may be the same, but the company and product culture may be different. Even though your industry may have its standards for professional dress, your company may have an attitude of its own that sets it apart as a brand differentiating itself from the pack. WHAT IS YOUR COMPANY CULTURE? Is it formal, laid back, fashion- forward or fun? Who will see you and how will they be dressed? As a representative of your company, consider how you want your clients, co-workers and employer to react to you. Do you want to come across as Authoritative, Creative, Formal, Functional, Credible, etc.? The way you are dressed will have a direct impact on the way you are perceived, and how others respond to you and your company. Maintain a consistent image Some of us wear many hats: in any given day you may be at sales calls, a business mixer or a construction site; and you may feel you need to dress differently for various business-related activities. This can be challenging when getting dressed in the morning, and hard on the wardrobe. Although it is important to dress appropriately for where you will be and what you will be doing, it is still important to maintain a certain level of consistency. If one day you are wearing a matched suit and the next day jeans and a casual top, this can send mixed messages and confuse your client or your employer. Suppose that someone is meeting you for the first time. What would a potential client or employer think when they first meet you? Do you fit their expectations for the industry, products and skills you are offering? Plan your work wardrobe with careful consideration. The image that you project is vital to establishing a business relationship quickly, and maintaining that relationship over time. |

Politics / Ghanian Soldeir,pregnant Wife & Others Dies In Fire Accident. by convenantudoh(m): 9:31pm On Oct 28, 2014 |
An Army corporal with the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), his pregnant wife, their two-year-old daughter, as well as his niece, were burnt to death when fire engulfed their wooden apartment at the old Uddara Barracks in Kumasi last Saturday. The soldier, whose identity was given only as Cpl Tani, and his family were trapped in the fire which lasted less than one hour. Two other families in the same wooden block, however, managed to escape unhurt but lost all their belongings to the blaze. The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) mortuary. It took the intervention of personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings in the vicinity, near the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained by the GNFS. According to an eyewitness, around 10:20 p.m., tenants on the block heard a loud noise from the corporal’s side of the block and got out, only to see smoke bellowing from his apartment. He said due to the heat emanating from the apartment, the other tenants were unable to get closer to rescue the soldier and his family. Instead, the other tenants had to run for their lives, leaving behind their personal belongings. When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Central Command of the GAF, Lieutenant Christiane Osei-Duah, confirmed the incident but declined to give the names of the deceased because she was yet to receive clearance from the headquarters of the GAF to do so. She said last Saturday night she received a call that a structure at the old barracks was on fire. She then called the GNFS, which responded by dispatching two fire engines and personnel to bring the fire under control. However, she said due to the nature of the building and its location, the fire officers could not get access to the place and, therefore, had to stand afar to fight the fire. Lt Osei-Duah said the GNFS managed to put the fire under control around 10:45 p.m. but explained that because the structure was wooden, the whole flat was razed down. Meanwhile, the two families who lost their belongings in the fire incident have been given temporary accommodation at the new 4BN Barracks Complex at Nyankyereniase, near Kumasi. The General Officer Commanding the Central Command, Brigadier-General Joseph Adu- Boampong, and the Commanding Officer of the Fourth Battalion (4BN), Lieutenant Colonel Salifu Fuseini, both visited the scene and pledged to support the affected victims with relief items. |
Nairaland / General / Bomb Blast In Bauchi by convenantudoh(m): 9:14am On Oct 24, 2014 |
A bomb exploded at a bus station in northern Nigeria's Bauchi state late on Wednesday, killing at least five people and wounding 12, police said. The blast, which struck the town of Azare, is likely to be blamed on Islamist Boko Haram militants, casting further doubt on government reports that it had reached a temporary ceasefire with the rebels in order to secure the release of more than 200 schoolgirls they are holding hostage. Police did not comment on who was behind the attack. The insurgents have repeatedly bombed public places since they launched an uprising demanding an Islamic state in religiously mixed Nigeria five years ago. They have stepped up their campaign this year, setting off deadly blasts across the country. "Five persons burned beyond recognition were certified dead, while 12 others sustained various degrees of injuries," Bauchi police spokesman Haruna Mohammed said in a statement. "The entire surrounding (area) has been cordoned off ... No arrest has yet been made, but an investigation has commenced." Nearly a week after the government announced a ceasefire deal with Boko Haram, which it said would include the release of the girls kidnapped from the secondary school in Chibok in northeastern Nigeria in April, there is still no sign of them being freed. A number of attacks has raised doubts over the ceasefire, although Boko Haram is so factionalized it is possible a truce has been reached with one group, while others continue with violence. Talks to release the schoolgirls are taking place this week between the government and a Boko Haram representative in the Chadian capital N'Djamena, but they are shrouded in secrecy. A Chadian diplomat told Reuters that a deal could still be reached if this faction has ultimate control over the girls -- although analysts say that could be divided between several cooperating factions. Boko Haram, which only communicates messages via jihadist videos of a man claiming to be its leader Abubakar Shekau, has not yet commented on the alleged ceasefire.

Nairaland / General / "If Ebola Was In UK We'd Cure It" Says Doctor. by convenantudoh(m): 1:45pm On Aug 08, 2014 |
A leading British public health doctor says western drug companies have no reason to cure the deadly Ebola virus because it mostly affects "powerless minority groups" The international community has failed to deal with the deadly Ebola virus because it mainly kills poor Africans, Britain’s top public health doctor has claimed. Dr John Ashton, president of the UK Faculty of Public Health, compared the situation to the early years of the AIDS epidemic and attacked the “moral bankruptcy” of a system which gives drug companies no reason to invest in treatments for “powerless minority groups”. The Americans Infected with the disease have shown positive improvement after they were taken to america and treated with a "Secret Serum".Meanwhile the Nigerian Government showed interest on the secret serum but the US refused to share information(s) on the serum. They, the Americans were planning to meet next week whether they should use the experimental drugs(secret serum) on the infected africans, but who knows how many lives may loss before the sheduled meeting? |
