One point earned. Very decent performance against a very difficult side to beat.
I am satisfied with what I have seen. Let's begin preparing for the next game.
they are not difficult, chelsea are just useless without wingers.
man utd have not failed once to beat stoke fc since tony pulis brought them to the premier league.
come rain come shine, united's six points are guaranteed against stoke every season.

get wingers, get strikers who can head - stoke are dead!

chelsea have stepped it up.
the injury of etherington and delap have clipped the wings of stoke.

kalou missed a sitter. . . . . .chamakh would have buried that.

chelsea are their own worst enemies. . . . .i just don't know how a team as big as chelsea don't have traditional wingers. mourinho was successful here because of duff/robben/joe cole. the equivalent here are anelka(angry), malouda(angry angry) kalou(angry angry angry)

@Okada_man, this where we get it wrong, spanking kids is just a culture of violence which we have taken as a necessary tool in raising good kids, but it`s a fallacy. If spanking actually worked, Nigeria would not be filled with thieves and ill disciplined people. Police ole, politician ole, servant ole. pastor ole, the whole society is rotten with all the beatings and spanking most kids get from Nigerian parents. The best societies are non violence and they raise great kids.
you are way off-point!
spanking is the best tool in raising kids. this is why a child raised in nigeria has more mental balance than his counterpart here. the reason there are thieves in nigeria is because of the abject poverty. if nigeria can run an effective social security where every jobless citizen over the age of 18 can collect £100(N25,000)per week, 90% of the crime will disappear!

The Scandinavian countries are a good example, they don`t spank their kids but they turn out to be better behaved as adults, unlike us who get spanked, but yet are so badly behaved all over the World. Violence breeds violence, hence the reason Nigeria is one of the most violence societies in the World. A country where causing physical pain to another human being means jack poo, a place where taking a life is as normal as the day.
they are just better than the western european countries - their kids are not better than a kid raised in nigeria.

Parenting is about communicating with kids, teaching them right from wrong through dialogue, reward and consequence, instead of brute force. By using violence we will only be reinforcing that culture of violence that we were raised in, which depicts violence as the only way in solving a problem. This topic brings back my horrible memories of Nigeria and its culture of violence and sadly enough we are still "bound to violence" Black culture needs to move away from this, if we want to be seen as non aggressive people.
another erroneous statement.
i hope you know the developed countries once used cane and spanking to raise their wards. compare the children raised then to the yobs we have today. have you been to any school in the united kingdom? have you seen how kids beat up their teachers? spit in the faces of their teachers? is that the way kids should be trained?

Teach reason over brute force. We need enlightenment in our society. Thank heavens we have a Gov like Fashola who is trying to eradicate this barbaric behavior from our society, I hope he goes further than just no spanking in schools. Parents don`t need to spank.
spanking is not brute force.
spare the rod, spoil the child. brute force is crucifixion or circumcision.
caning a child with a ruler 6 times is not brute force - it's discipline.

every big team playing their first league game away from home will have their work cut out. . . . .there are no easy games in the premier league again. . .
this is why it's more unpredictable than la liga

Are Stoke really going to play like this for 90mins?
why do you think people say barcelona cannot beat stoke? andreas villash-boash is perplexed: how do i beat this team? how do you beat stoke?
no creativity at all apart from the set-pieces. ordinarily, defenders are taught to rescue the ball going to result in a corner kick, play it out of touch to result to throw-in. against stoke, it's better to concede corner-kicks than their throw-ins.

can messi do it on a cold, wet tuesday night in britannia stadium? the answer is a big no!

I hope to review the "sentences" at the end of the day, in line with the offenses committed (most are looting/Stealing destruction of public property).

Could there be a possibility that:

1.) The dark skinned looters are being sentenced FIRST?
2.) Could it be they are being handed a HEAVIER sentence that their "Caucasian" co-looters?

Lets hope there is fairness in dispensing Justice.

By the way, if l were the Judge, l would not make a "Criminal" out of these girls/boys who just have a "moment of madness", judging by their "previous record" of good behaviour and promising future.
No need to kill a fly with a sledge hammer, am sure the "message is well understood.
most of these offences wouldn't even get to court under normal circumstances. the police would only caution the offenders and let them go - but david cameron had told the judges all the offenders must be convicted and the ones guilty must go to prison. a youngster was verbally abusive to the police and he got 6 months. . . . .that is definitely politically motivated. . . .under normal circumstances, he won't be detained let alone taken to court. cameron is trying to make these lots scapegoats and to serve as deterrents to others.

It does hurt when someone says he can do what u can't do. I understand that cos that has been my experience in life. People keep telling me "It is impossible" and I keep doing the "impossible". I know I'm not alone. There are many more out there who are conquering their own world of impossibilities. Someone once told me I can never genuinely be a millionaire b4 10 years of my graduation. The good thing is I'm not posting here to convince YOU but to encourage 1 or 2 peeps out there who may be thinking of how to achieve success without cheating.
you are a tool!
what success have you even achieved that you are barking with phlegm spraying out of your mouth?
any troglodyte can come online and say he's the richest businessman in nigeria.

Tip for the willing: always set targets way above the mark. You often have to condescend to cheating when you are struggling with everyone else on the same level. Does a student who scores 350 in JAMB & A1-parallel in WAEC need to beg for admission? I don't think so. Does a first class graduate in Chemical Engr. who knows what he's doing need to beg for a job in an oil company? I don't think so. Does a man who drives a brand new car with all the necessary papers available need to pay bribes at police checkpoints? I don't think so. Does a hardworking and target-exceeding staff need to grease palms at work to get his promotion? Most likely no.
Live like an eagle among chickens and you may not have to indulge in "wuruwuru".

While what you said is absolutely spot-on, it's freaking Newcastle for pete's sake.
first game of the season with the home fans baying for blood - you would have to be at your very best to go to newcastle and batter them to death.
it's not that bread and butter, nateevs. chelsea are away tomorrow, we shall see how they'd fare too.

I really worry for Arsenal. I imagine a decent team against Arsenal today - Bolton, Sunderland, Everton - and they would have gone down. Only Wilshere can make them better. That was the best 11 they could field. The brightest input was from Gervinho and he's out. . . . and I am not convinced about his final ball. Today, he reminded me of Kalou.
nothing wrong with his final ball. he had nothing to aim at. when gervinho gets into those decent positions, he looks up and it's only robin(marked by 3 newcastle defenders) in the box. arsenal's midfielders(rosicky) was too slow to get into the box and van persie is not chicharito who brilliantly second-guesses where the delivery would fall. i was very very impressed with gervinho. if he can learn to cut in and aim straight at goal. . . .he will score 15 league goals easily this season. full-backs have their work cut-out holding this ivorien.

Next - Liverpool, United, Swansea, Blackburn, Bolton, Spurs, Sunderland.
On paper, Arsenal should drop max 3pts from these ties. However, from what I saw today. . .
dang it. . . . .those fixtures look scary.

debosky:
Song was a fool for that stamp, Gervinho will have better games, but now he likely misses Liverpool (unless Arsenal appeal).
appeal? if gervinho appeals, he would get a 5-match ban. you cannot strike anyone on the face like he did. wenger shouldn't bother.
song might even get a retrospective ban. the stamp on joey barton is cynical, cowardly, disgraceful. i am 100% more in support of what gervinho did than what alex song did.

the truth and nothing but the truth. . . . .gervinho was a bit unlucky cos barton was the catalyst to that brawl. barton had no right going with that aggression to pick gervinho up but gervinho shouldn't have slapped him on the cheek(it's a straight red)!

apart from that, arsenal had 69% possession and did nothing with it. that's my problem with wenger's inferior tiki-taka. what's the point of hugging that much possession and creating little? walcott(i keep saying possesses no football brain). he picks the ball and dribble his way out of touch like a zombie. gervinho was the brightest spark on the park. . . . .van persie laboured hard, without cesc/nasri's golden delivery, robin starved like a somali kid.

alex song held his own, szczesny was brilliant and i think vermaelen/koscielny axis did well.

Great insight Kobo. I must confess that I am quite fortunate. I have mostly been advantaged in most cases. I "BLASTED" my way through school, never having to depend on anyone and maintaining very strict levels of discipline. I got all my scholarships and jobs by merit and have always been successful within and outside Nigeria. I agree it is difficult but as they say, tough times never last but tough people do. I was once told I can never get my current job without "knowing" someone on the inside. I proved it to be very wrong. I want whoever is reading this to know "It Is Possible". I've been there and done that plus, I'm just getting started!
keep talking a good game. . . .

wuruwuru does not have to be career based. . . .i have never cheated as well when it comes to exams, career, etc. but in a chaotic state like nigeria, there's no way anyone, i repeat, any individual could have made it in nigeria in various sticky situations without rubbing few palms. . . .it's not possible.

down to queuing at filling stations, to putting fuel in jerrycans, to jumping through the hoops/queues, etc. nigeria is a country where rubbing palms is the only way things get done effectively. i remember the incident in the passport office in festac. i was told there and then i could get my passport the same day if i pay the premium price. . . . i was told it could take months if i do it the normal way. . . .what would efisher do in that situation? he's going to convince me now that he would wait 3 months to get his international passport cos he doesn't believe in wuruwuru. . . .who are you fooling?

1. God's grace
2. Natural talent
3. Hardwork

You don't have to be dishonest to be successful in Nigeria but you do have to do a lot of hardwork (just like anywhere else).
you are a pathological liar.
at one point in your life in nigeria, you must have bribed a policeman, nepa official, lastma official, teacher, exam invigilators, civil servant, messenger, etc. even if you didn't do it directly - somebody with your interest in mind must have done it on your behalf.

@ topic,
no individual can make it in nigeria without any form of wuruwuru.
in other countries, most nigerians will make it without wuruwuru but the moment nigeria comes to play, wuruwuru must prevail.

@ OP: A Nigerian, Samson Adesina, was one of the looters remanded in prison custody yesterday over their roles in the riots, which have seized British major cities for days. The 23-year-old Adesina, an electrical engineering student, was caught by one of the 8,000 surveillance cameras strategically placed in London streets, stealing a flatscreen television at the Surrey Quays Shopping Centre during the riots, The Tower Bridge Magistrate’s Court ordered that he be remanded in prison for a week for his action. With the development, he will miss his final examinations.

I smell a stinkingly dead rat here! UK unis are currently on summer holidays. I can't understand how one week remand in prison would make this chap miss his final examination. If, however, he's doing his masters degree, it may well be the case that he has a deadline for submiting his dissertation somnetime August ending or early September. Either way, the notion of missing final exams seems misleading. That said, make no mistakes, the recent looting spree involved people from different nations around the world. Until we have a breakdown of the nationalities of evryone charged and sentenced in relation to this, it is unfair to speculate or even claim that Nigerians are in the majority. Secondly, it's sad that this guy, at 23, pursuing an electrical engineering course has a bright prospect ahead of him which a criminal record potentially scuttles. Gossip thrives in this, as in other, part(s) of the world. No matter how academically sound he may have been, this is more than likely, perpetually, to cast a shadow of his integrirty. His professors and colleauges would, more than likely, have nothing good to say about him.
if you smell a stinkingly dead rat, then the rat is probably in your nostrils.
samson adeshina has been remanded for a week, he has not been sentenced yet. . . . .he was remanded because the judge wants his case to be transferred to the crown court. he has been sent to the crown court because he will likely get more than 6 months imprisonment. any offence that attracts more than 6 months imprisonment cannot be tried in a magistrate court. if he gets more than 6 months imprisonment, he would miss his exams next january/february(assuming he's still an undergraduate).

I don't see them on this forum. Apart from probably Dr. Kit and an emotinal Muki tongue I can't count many Arsenal fans who wouldn't prefer Cesc staying. Its the media circus its become that is testing to everyone.
thousands of arsenal fans want to see the back of him. his tedious transfer saga has distracted arsenal enough. now the captain's armband will have to be passed to someone else. what does this do to the team spirit? cesc is leaving, cesc is staying - i don't see how that helps arsenal's preparation to win a league title.

Cesc's relatively poor performances by his own standards had more to do with his injuries than losing interest in the club. I still pasted a youtube clip of his performances in an injury plagued campaign, go watch it and stop stressing a mistake made in a match he played with a patched up hammy.
When he goes, he goes with most true Arsenal fan's blessings as you can largely see even on this forum.
if i put up bebe's youtube clip, it will shame cesc's. it's what it is. . . .youtube clips. carefully put together to show the wow factor - conveniently ignoring the silly tricks he did that ended up in arsenal conceding an avoidable goal. you can put 20,000 youtube clips of cesc. after all said and done, his name is written in the history book as the arsenal captain that won nothing for 7 yrs. grin

D Glazer's can move d debts from Red football unto United's books any moment they want, don't let accounting procedures fool you.
how would they explain that if they do? that's against accounting procedures, my dear friend.

After all immediately after d Glazer's purchased United, they promptly moved debts from Red football straight unto United's books. Red football and United are one and d same.
they are not the same. the glazers moved the pik loans secured against buying united into the united account and it's just £220 million then. the senior debt of £500 million is red football's debt and shall remain so. the glazers would do everything possible to keep united's sheet clean because of uefa. . . .

As for d CR cash. I honestly believe that Gill is deceiving us with d claim that d money is available simply sitting in d bank. I think best case scenario it will made available if absolutely crucial but it has been earmarked for something else if not used elsewhere. e.g paying off some of PIK that were present at d time.
well. . . . if gill deceived us then, what is to say he's not deceiving us now? either way, gill/fergie deceived us then when they told us ronaldo's cash was in the bank orthey are deceiving us now we cannot afford sneijder's fees and wages. we didn't need to sign phil jones(we could have kept o'shea for another year). we didn't need to sign ashley young(we have nani and park and obertan). that's £32 million squandered on what we
didn't desperately need.

Also I am not saying United can't find d money to finance d deal, I simply pointing out why d club is being cautious in regards to d financial aspects of signing Sneijder.
so why did gill tell us united have ronaldo's money sitting pretty in zenith bank?

red football's debt is not united's debt. they are two separate entities. red football was the vehicle used to purchase united during the take-over. but it's big news when the 2 debts are lumped together to create the much needed media sensationalism. how would the media houses sell if they don't say united owe £300 billion and the club will die next week?

You are also forgetting that we have given greatly improved contracts to Rooney, Evra, Vidic, Smalling, Park, Valencia and soon Hernadez during this same period. Most of these guys particularly Vidic (captain), Evra and Valencia got significant pay rises as d new establishment of squad. Factor in also d likes of Welbeck and Cleverley. D wages that were cleared by sales have already been made use of in improving contracts for d existing squad, not to mention new signings.
i have factored all that. united had £180 million(part of ronaldo money and other revenue generated) sitting in the bank. united have only spent less than £50 million of this. where is the remaining £130 million? what is it doing in the bank? welbeck and cleverley are home-grown players. they are not going to force wage demands. . . .until their performances on the pitch sky-rocket! the long/short story is. . . . .united are buoyant enough to afford whatever sneijder demands. . . . . .you won't convince a 5 yr old otherwise.

Yes, but do you know how they paid off d PIK loans. They put even more even more debt on d books (granted at a lower interest rate). D debts are still there and will need to be addressed eventually. United go thru a lean spell like btwn '03 - '06 and it could require another CR7 type sale and cash injection to keep things smooth. Also United are not like other clubs, d rules will be followed. David Gill will not bank on d power of G15 to flout regulations.
the debt remaining now is the senior debt and it's red football's debt, not man utd's. the pik loans have disappeared. united made enough money last season by playing in wembley in the champions league and they won the premier league title. there's money to bankroll the sneijder deal.

Giggs still dey here and we are still paying his wages. D 100m you speak off is just revenue not actual profit. Also d revenue has been used to help d signings we already made. Not to mention also balance d wage bill due to Rooney's huge package. Not to mention d improved contracts for Vidic, Evra, Park, Valencia, Smalling, and soon Hernandez. Sneidjer's 220k a week will put United significantly higher than 50% of turnover wage ratio d club pursues.
giggs is on his last legs. he has approximately 12 months left in his career. the 100m i speak of is the revenue at the gates alone. you still have an improved tv deal, merchandise, winning bonus, etc attached to it. sneijder's 220k a week will not pinch united's wage/turnover ratio by any means. we have moved out enough dead woods to accommodate at least 3 players in the 220k/week wage bracket.

Personally I agree with you. Sneijder has earned d right to call his price, and yes Rooney's wages are totally ridiculous. But my point is that by d time players like Nani sees d disparity, and with  Young also on a reported 100k. You can be sure he will want a significant pay rise about say 120k. We have moved out most off dead wood, so unless we let go off one of d slightly bigger squad players (e.g Berba, Park, Carrick) d wage bill is not going to be seeing a substantial reduction any time soon. These are part of d financial consideration that is causing d persistent "price haggling" and also why SAF slyly invited PSG to bid for Berba.
we don't need to sell any of the bigger squad player to afford sneijder. i was reading an article last month and i found out that the wages of the deadwoods per week. wes brown(£50k), oshea(£50k), hargreaves(£75k), van der sar(£90k), neville(75k), scholes(75k) + obertan's wages which could be £5k per week and other young players we sold. . . . .in a nutshell, united saved around £420k a week selling the deadwoods.

now then, united signed phil jones(£45k), ashley young(£85k), de gea(£80k). . . . .thus paying £210k on new signings.
my math tells me united have saved £210+k in wages - the same amount of money the media have speculated united would have to pay sneijder.
the funds for sneijder's transfer is definitely available. last year's financial accounts will show £180m. of this amount only around £47m has been spent. united have around £130 million available as we speak and yet they are haggling over sneijder's fees. shame!

Rio was 24 then not 27, also United were a debt free plc that didn't have to consider debt or interest payments. Also it is exactly cos of Berba transfer and situation that I am sure United are being skeptical of just dropping d dough for Sneidjer. It is a significant expenditure, one that has to be right and cover d clubs a** if doesn't work out. Even Inter want to remove d burden of Sneidjer's huge wages to help build their squad.
this is hilarious. so you think splashing £30m on rio ferdiand wasn't a risk as at 2002? does it matter if he's 24 or 15 then? anyways, that is an aside.
what's the essence of being the most commercially successful club in europe with £100+m still in the bank and a record breaking fanbase of 330 million if we can't afford a world class midfielder known as wesley sneijder? we might as well pack up and donate old trafford to somali refugees
At the time when Madrid wanted to buy CRonaldo from us, They offered Sneijder as part of a player +cash deal but he wasnt interested in being a part of a swap deal for Ronaldo. This was reported at the time by his agent. Although SAF wasnt too keen at the time as he wanted all the money but Sneijder's agent came out to say no chance of him being a part of any player+cash deal for Ronaldo which meant there must have been something in it.
sneijder's agent had no say then. when madrid is doing their bonanza, anything goes. the lust in their eyes for ronaldo was peerless. only last season, van der vaart went to spurs for just £8m. inter bought sneijder for just 15m euros(£10m as at 2009). sneijder and robben were pursued from real madrid. if david gill knew what value meant, he would have factored sneijder into the ronaldo deal as at 2009 and sneijer was only 25 then.

Wait a bit coogar, are you rejoicing or crying sef?  undecided
no one is lamenting here abi yu see anybody dey cry? well maybe Slim is but I'm sure he'll get over that soon enof.  grin grin
If he is leaving on a free like Flamini, mouthing off about every other club like Adebayor or going to Manure, I would have been cursing him but if he is only passing up an opportunity to become an Arsenal legend and earning us a load of wad in the process, why should anyone be sad about that?
True he has not won anything for us but that is a shared responsibility and not his alone, no one here can say the boy didn't put his body on the line for the club when he played.
except that true arsenal fans(not wenger's arselickers like yourself) think cesc stopped being an arsenal player 12 months ago. did he put his body on the line for the club when he played? nope. he contributed to arsenal's loss at camp nou last season. he was disoriented, tactless and was lost in the storm throughout. by his standard, cesc had a woeful performance last season.

as per your question, i am not happy nor sad. i am just commenting.
amazed that wenger lovers are so blind not to see this man's youth policy has not yielded any fruits. astounded that wenger-haters are not doing enough to vent their anger through the media. arsenal are heading backwards. the top 3 slots are sewn already(chelsea, man city and man utd). the 4th place is up for grabs and wenger is still bent on signing oxdale, jekinson and jadson to challenge his rivals.

oh happy days! cheesy

@montelik,
Relax.
This debt thing,if real, shoukda grounded and crippled us by now.
Coogar mentions United's worth.that should say it all. . .
If United are serious about closing the gap on Barcelona,Sneijder might be the way to go. . .
He is one of the best right now out there.
thank you. . . . .
the way the media have painted this debt issue, united should be down to their bones by now.
debt this, debt that and the club keeps ticking and paying these huge salaries even to mediocre players.

mbulela:
their is a fundamental problem with your argument. There is a school of thought that believes that Rooney mugged the club for that raise (btw,i doubt it is up to 250k) and a perception that Gill and even fergie belong to that school of thought.
whether school of thought or market of thought, united are paying rooney £250k per week. rooney is not as good as sneijder either for club achievements or country achievements. so if rooney is worth that amount, how much do you think sneijder is worth?

secondly,Gill said it then and repeated it again recently that Berba was the last of such players (over 26) that will be signed for such huge fee.
then they should forget about trying to close the gap on barcelona in europe. nobody put a shovel in fergie's mouth when he mentioned his next mission is to close the huge gap between united and barcelona. how's he expected to achieve it without replacing scholes, hargreaves, o'shea, etc in the squad? even with them, we were outclassed - is it without them we would close the gap? gill was foolish enough to let sneijder slip through his fingers 2 yrs ago, he shouldn't mind the price now. that sneijder is now asking for £500k per week is gill's fault, not mine.

david gill must be foolish if he thinks united will not sign 26+ players. . . . . .he was the dude behind ronaldo deal, why didn't he factor sneijder and robben in the ronaldo deal in 2009? real madrid would have given david gill anything he wanted when they were lusting after ronaldo. £60 million + sneijder + robben would have sealed the ronaldo deal back then.

thirdly, maybe SAF does not rate him that highly to be worth that salary including transfer fee. With our current set up,i am one of those who is not convinced that is not worth moving heaven and earth for as it does not address our current problem within the confines of our best tactical set up.
of course, saf rates him highly. enough ex-players have all commented on the sneijder deal that he will be a perfect tool for man utd. ferguson is just using the bargaining power that no one wants sneijder to haggle the lowest price possible. if someone had told you united would spend £50 million in the transfer window without improving their central midfield, would you believe it?

yet, we added jones(panic buy), ashley young(we have giggs, nani, js park, fabio who can play in that role) and de gea(kitkat, lindegaard) but surprisingly, we left the midfield weaker than it was last season and fergie expects united to blow barcelona out of the water. fergie must be a pipe dreamer. i will wait till the 31st before i renew any of my subscription. fergie and gill can kiss my arse.

Wait for the announcement first before you break out the champagne so yu don't celebrate prematurely as you did last season.  tongue
Good luck to the boy, he has been good for us and largely shown respect to the club but only missed out on an opportunity to become an Arsenal legend like Henry and co.
40m euro in total for someone we payed virtually nothing for is a reasonable deal. cheesy
I aint complaining.  grin
good for arsenal, largely shown respect but won nothing for arsenal.
he can never be regarded as an arsenal legend. . . .henry, vieira, kanu, etc won titles for arsenal, cesc won nothing for you guys so i don't see how you of all people should be celebrating. . . .

40m euro in total for someone you paid nothing for is not reasonable - he won nothing for you guys. wenger made £50m when he sold adebayor and kolo toure to man city. what has that money done to improve arsenal since those players left? nothing. arsenal are actually going backwards.

cesc fabregas deal would have worth something if he won something for arsenal and if the money made would be pumped back into the squad to improve it. if we go by wenger's history. none of this will happen.
