Did I say Sandro was unsuccessful? I classified him as a one season wonder like Palacios before him. There will always be reasons why players decline, either because they started drinking shekpe, partying or missing the sunshine in Madrid so that isn't really relevant.
you are one hypocritical twunt! if he's a one season wonder then you expect him to fail next season, isn't it? palacios was good for wigan and excellent for spurs. he lost his brother(i think) in south america and he has never been the same since then. forget shekpe.

Only one team can win a title. That is absolute. Success, my friend, comes in degrees. Everton making the UEFA cup will be a successful season. Tottenham qualifying for the CL will be a successful season. Liverpool finishing 5th can be called an unsuccessful season, them not making Europe at all will be a failure. Teams know they can't always win the title and set benchmarks with which they measure success. Like this season, Barca's benchmark was to make the Semi's of the CL and finish in the top two. Maybe for fans of the big clubs all that matters is trophies, and that is a reason why we tease Arsenal, but IMO to say success is only measured in trophies is a misrepresentation of reality.  Everybody cuts their coat according to their size. SO when Osasuna, Sevilla, Villareal, Atletico Madrid  make the CL, I think I am right to say they have had successful seasons. If they beat Barca or Madrid to the title, they would have had exceptional seasons.
how does this affect the price of fish? for a team to be absolutely successful, the team must win a trophy. i'm sorry, not only one team can win a title. man city won a trophy without winning the league birmingham won a trophy and got relegated. your nonsense theory about one team winning a trophy is ridiculous.

Barca finished outside the top two just 4 seasons ago. 10 points behind Pellegrini's Villarreal. I believe if Madrid didn't snatch their coach away, Villarreal would still be one of the top teams in Spain.
chelsea also finished outside the top 2 in 08/09 season. what does this prove?

The recent gulf between the top 2 teams is mainly because both giants happen to have the strongest squads around right now. Pep has built a squad that has dominated all of Europe, and Madrid spent silly money to keep up. I believe both teams will dominate any league in Europe right now. It will take a little bit of time for the other teams to catch up. And by other teams I mean even the English giants, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool. Spain is currently King of football whether you like it or not and it's mainly because of Barca and Madrid's super squads.
isn't that the point we have been trying to make since. spain is the king of football because of the duo-poly of barcelona and real madrid. the other clubs are mediocre as far as i am concerned. barcelona and real madrid have been snapping the best players in the other clubs for the past 5 or 6 seasons.

Two season before that Arsenal(4th) and Liverpool (3rd) tied in points. Both 15 points behind 2nd place Chelsea and a whopping 21 points behind Manchester United
In 06-07 Chelsea ran away with it, beating united by 8 points Liverpool by 9, and Arsenal by a whopping 24 points. The gap between the champs and the last placed team was a mind blowing 76 points.
stop lying my friend, fergie's man utd won the league in 06/07 not chelsea. if you cannot get your facts right then i must assume a lot of the things you have typed here are incorrect.

With time things have evened out. These things happen, and teams need time to react when a team or two run away with it. Yes Barca and Madrid are running away with it but Just 4 seasons ago Barca finished third. About 7 seasons ago we were struggling to qualify for the UEFA cup when Valencia and Deportivo were winning the league, despite us having much much money than they can dream of.
this is why i am not cutting statistics to the last 20 yrs or the last 6 years. i have cut a decent sample size of the history of la liga in comparison to the premier league. two things are clear in the sample size. more teams have won the league titles in england than in spain, more teams have won in elite europe in england than in spain. those two factors tell me one thing: it is more competitive in england than in spain.

This is your argument. . . . You have had 2 teams win way more trophies than the competition over time therefore your league is less competitive. I don't even need to know anything about football to rubbish this argument.
what else can you deduce from the fact that only real madrid and barcelona have won the champions league in spain. italy have ac milan, inter milan, juventus. england have man utd, liverpool, aston villa and nottingham forest, germany have bayern munich, dortmund and hamburg and the king of football(spain) have just two teams. krayola, bury your head in shame.

That 2 teams win a lot may just mean they have been stronger despite the competition. They have been able to reinvent themselves with the times and remained competitive where others have failed.
pathetic to say the least. . . .what is competitive in that if 2 teams win it time n time again because they were reinventing themselves? how is this any different to the scottish league or portugese league? if it's competitive, there would have been more winners. the others have to step up to the challenge and do something about the duo-poly. the evidence i have proven has shown la liga is less competitive than the other leagues in europe. we are talking about 55 years in champions league and yet no other spanish club have been able to match barcelona and madrid?  shocked shocked shocked

Manchester United have been able to reinvent themselves with Ferguson's guidance and have dominated, winning 12 titles in the last 20 years. Does that make the EPL any less competitive as a league in that period?
they have only won their league 19 times in the history of english football. liverpool have won it 18 times. stop cutting the statistics. let's look at the history of the league. football did not start in england when ferguson arrived or during the premier league era. football league started in england in 1888.

If only I ruled the world your application of logic in this case would surely earn u a death sentence, by public stoning.  grin
what colour is the sky where you live? i guess it's purple. your arguments keep going in swings and roundabouts. on one side of the mouth, la liga is a 2-man team because of the ridiculous money barcelona and real madrid have spent, on the other side other mouth, la liga is more competitive than the english league. how do you correlate the 2 points if you are not a doofus. we don't care why the league has been duo-polised. the question is.  . . . .has it been duo-polized or not? the answer is yes!

If you are as succesful as barcelona, everyone would want to be associated with you.

2011 Man Utd
2010 Chelsea
2009 Man Utd
2008 Man Utd
2007 Man Utd
2006 Chelsea
2005 Chelsea

Therefore the EPL is dominated by 2 teams.  undecided
i provided 2 different stats. . . . .the barca/madrid monopoly in the domestic league and in elite europe. if we are talking monopoly, barcelona and real madrid are the history of la liga. take those two teams out and la liga is nothing(domestic or international).

I put "monopoly" in quotes. 4 teams can't really be called a monopoly. And I said a monopoly on "success", not a monopoly on titles.
stop embarrassing yourself. . . .success = winning titles. otherwise, arsenal wouldn't be getting the stick they get on nairaland about being trophyless. how can a club be successful without trophies?

While you seem to be focusing on just the team that finished top of the table, I'm focusing on the teams that finish in the top 4, and showing how we see more teams in these positions over time in Spain, and pretty much the same teams in England. YOu do not have to win a title to have had a successful season.
i am beginning to think i have overestimated your nous. . . .so what is a successful season without titles?

The top 4 in England have remained almost the same for a while now. Tottenham Making the CL was like headline news across the globe. We see new Liga teams in the competition pretty much every season.
we have a constant top four in england, you have a constant top 2 in spain - more evidence that la liga is a 2-man team. in england, you have a huge gulf between the top four teams and the rest of the league. in la liga, you have a huge gulf between the top 2 teams and the rest of the league.

man city(3rd) and chelsea(2nd) tied on points last season. . . . .valencia(3rd) and real madrid(2nd) were separated by a whooping 21 points.
arsenal(3rd) and man utd(2nd) had 10 points difference in 09/10. . .valencia(3rd) and real madrid(2nd) were separated by 25 points.

surely, you are a joke!

Real Madrid have always had a lot of financial backing, same as Barca but to a lesser extent. They have been able to get the best players from around the world. Same can't be said about other clubs in Spain, so it is only logical IMO that they both have been the most successful clubs in Spain.
no one is disputing this. . . . .the argument is the monopoly in spain is stronger than what you have in england. the league started in england in 1888 and yet the most successful team is man utd with 19 league titles. 19 league titles in 123 years. . . . . .la liga was formed in 1929 and the most successful team(real madrid) has won it 31 times. 31 league titles in 82 years. it's no rocket science knowing which is the most competitive - coupled with the fact that more english clubs have won the champions league than the duo-polized la liga.

do the math!

2008 - real madrid
2007 - real madrid

2005 - barca

krayola, you should be ashamed of yourself when you come out with unguarded rants like the one above.
the english league was formed in 1888(40 years before spanish la liga was formed) and the most successful football club in england have only won 19 league titles. real madrid have won 31 league titles followed by barcelona with 21 titles and you keep talking balderdash about monopoly in the english league. . . .

only 2 spanish clubs have won the champions league(barcelona and real madrid), please compare that number to the number of english clubs that have won it. la liga is a 2-team league. remove barcelona and real madrid from la liga and you can easily forget the history of la liga cos there's nothing to write about the other teams in spain.

I'll pretend this is true just cause it's easier. Even though I think it makes little sense.
oops!

Basically u are saying a major reason Arsenal do not win the premiership is that football is not played on the pitch and the refs allow bad tackles. Take them to a league without those and they will most likely be champions.
without a doubt. . . . .

so whenever (or almost everytime) Arsenal lose a game is it because the were not physical enough? Is it always because the refs allow bad tackles?
it's because their players get bullied, roughened or teams play ultra-defensive tactics against them. . . .

Arsenal NEVER have bad showings . . noooo. Their goalies never make blunders. . . nooooo. . . The non-top 4 teams never play decent footie. . ,   noooooo. . ,     they never meet mid to lower table teams that show up with their A game and put up a fight and win fair and square (Maybe those don't even exist in the EPL  undecided ) Nooooo. . . They just get bullied and kicked and they lose.   I think this a pathetic approach to making your point.
valdez and casillas make as many stupid mistakes as any arsenal goalie. . . .the difference is real madrid and barcelona will outscore their opponents regardless of the mistakes their defence make. the top la liga teams don't have good defenders but they will outscore any team in most cases because they have more superior offensive players in their ranks.

No. But I guess we should assume that Arsenal will come and just breeze thru them.
i did not say breeze. i said arsenal would have won at least one league title in la liga in the last 6 seasons.

Beating teams in knock out games is totally different from topping a table after 38 games. If u said Arsenal could win the Copa del rey, this kind of argument u are making could pass. Over 38 games a lot more is required to be ahead than 1 or 2 strong performances.
how did dortmund do it in bundesliga? lille in french league? valencia when benitez won it?

Arsenal's problem isn't that they can't come out and play a great game. . .  Arsenal on their day can beat any team. Their big problem IMO is that they lack what it takes - e.g squad depth, mental strength, and just the will to basically do whatever it takes to get the result they need (Barca played dirty against Madrid cause we knew that is what it would take to beat their negative tactics) - to compete at that level consistently over the course of a season.
they lack the mental strength because they get bullied all the time. the kind of football and the kind of players wenger buys are not suited to the blood/thunder football in the premier league. of all the 20 teams in the premier league, only 2 or 3 play football the normal way. even man utd and chelsea sometimes use underhand tactics to bludgeon arsenal to stupor.

TBH I do not believe this arsenal squad can win any major league in Europe. Maybe French and Belgian or those kind moin moin leagues. Dem no get am
arsenal fc will do well in spain.

knock-out football of two legs or a single game of football? there's no way stoke will beat man utd over 2 legs, leeds will not beat chelsea over two legs. we are talking about europe not a needless domestic competition like carling cup where chelsea/man utd would field a weakened side cos their priorities lie elsewhere.

In a knockout game, All is required is just a brainfart by some defender, a lapse in concentration, a wrong ref decision.
not over 2 legs of football. all the results i posted above were aggregate of a 2-legged tie.

and contrary to what you or other women think, men compare notes of their partners. they analyze, compute data and all these things become clearer to men. narrow-minded? because i don't share your view? you got a lot to learn!

Right! Now have you ever thought about the woman who comes from a "stable" home but is nothing to write home about?
Who saw her parents degrade and shout at each other every chance they got? Who never saw her parents show each other love?
They just stayed together for the sake of the children. Thought about that too?
but the fact this woman saw her parents sticking it through thick and thin is a plus. she won't be too hasty to pack out of the house when she eventually marries because she was not brought up that way. a woman raised from a broken home has more tendency to be impatient and the moment the storm comes, she runs for her dear life because that was what she saw her mum doing when she was young.

ladies from broken homes mostly have issues especially trust issues when their partner is concerned. it has been indoctrinated in their mentality that the men folk can never be trusted. they mostly get extra defensive in relationships, they are mostly self-centred and it's like they always half-expect their male partners to screw up to prove the myth that "all men are dogs".

U really think arsenal's squad will do better than Real Madrid's and barcelona's over an entire season?
most definitely. . . .arsenal might lose to barcelona twice in a season and still win la liga. rafa benitez once won la liga with an average side so why can't wenger do it down there where football is actually played on the pitch and the referees are harsh on bad tackles.

dayokanu:
In the last 6 yrs, barcelona has won the La Liga more than any other team and they are reputed to be one of the greatest Football teams of all times. So how would Arsenal fare when they face Real or Barcelona, How would Wenger side fare when they face Mourinho
should we just assume barcelona/real madrid have never lost to a bottom side in la liga in the last 6 years, huh?

In La Liga, Arsenal cant place top 4. They play a similar tactics to most clubs and they are even inferior at it.
tell us the aggregate when arsenal met villareal and other spanish clubs(bar barcelona) in the last six years? arsenal even tonked barcelona at the emirates last season. it's football. . .anything can happen.

An Average Valencia midfielder would make Nasri Arshavin and all Arsenal attacking players look like rookies
One Juan mata, David Villa or David Silva would teach all those Frenchies at Arsenal the basics of football
08/09
arsenal 4-1 villareal

07/08
arsenal 4-3 sevilla

05/06
arsenal 1-0 real madrid
arsenal 1-0 villareal.

all these results were in the last six years. . . .matter of fact, only one team in la liga has beaten arsenal consistently and that's barcelona. the others have been beaten by wenger's team in europe in the last six years whether in the group stage or in the k.o. arsenal will win the spanish league conveniently.

So because she comes from a broken home she's not good enough for marriage?
When will people lose this type of mentality?
she's more likely to have issues. every individual is a product of his/her environment. no child raised from a broken home will be grounded as the one raised from a steady home where father/mother figure is present. personally, i wouldn't marry any woman from a broken home. of course, there will be an exception to every rule but i won't even take such risks to see if she will be affected by her background or not. it's too steep a price to pay if she turns out a bad wife material. . .

Please guys, remember this young man in your prayers. I think he has finally lost the plot completely.

Una was tiff am? grin
look at the quality of the teams that has won la liga in the last 6 yrs. . . .and you will get a sneaky idea. . . besides, arsenal don't have to beat barcelona to win la liga. . . .if they beat more bottom sides than barca, arsenal will win the league. that's the beauty of the league system. you see, you need the prayers you are talking about.

debosky:
Hargo - not played in 2 seasons (not counted). Scholes - a loss, but not a major one at this stage of his career. O'Shea, Brown and Gibson? Those cats are the Denilson, Eboue and Silvestre equivalents at Arsenal. grin
vds? i hope you know these players make the squad deep. it's not about their quality. . . .it's about having a decent replacement to replace any of the first teamers when there's a suspension/injury. those bodies must be replaced to avoid playing lindegaard as a midfielder or playing ferguson himself as a winger. united don't necessarily have the best starting xi in the league but what sets them apart is their squad in depth.

Not necessarily, it is just more likely than one from a more stable home. It also depends on the experience in the broken home in my opinion.

If she suffered tremendously emotionally or financially in the broken home, she might be more likely to try and keep a steady home of hers.

If she grew up with a mother that wore a single-mother-barge-of-honour saying "women can do it on their own" and the mother was able to cater for the kids all by herself, the risk is quite high. It is likely the child might think single motherhood is not a big deal (or even a sign of strength/female empowerment) and will be more willing to rock the boat.

That first part is the intent.

The second problem is the knowledge. Someone that has not grown up seeing a functioning male-female relationship is more likely to struggle to create one of her own.

That said, personalities counts a lot, and she might just be right and alright.
you raised good points but would you take the risk? this is marriage we are talking about not a relationship.

i really need your opinion on this issue.
it's true to some extent. . . .most men won't want to deal with the baggage from your broken home. the whole step dad step mum nonsense can be tedious. step brother/step sister is also drama. with these things come jealousy and envy even when there's none, nigerians easily read meanings to everything said jokingly or seriously. i'd rather not deal with that.
