I think you and the poster both have a point. when it comes to hard work and given information then Nigeria's standards are high cuz im in college in the US and all the stuff i did in year one, where my secondary school stuvs. And here in the US nigerian students that is the ones coming straight from naija are considered some of the brightests, in fact once you tell a teacher you are from Nigeria he expects only top grades from you, but when it comes to exposure to new technology and new ideas then they have the upper hand.
and i am saying the exposure to new technology, new tools and new ideas are all parts of quality education. if the knowledge is obsolete then it cannot qualify as standard education neither will it qualify as quality education. all we know in nigeria is theory. the curriculum in the top universities have not changed since the schools were established in the 60s. the education system in nigeria needs to be revamped completely.

Chez is a good goalie, but you don't rely on a 20 year old with little first team experience without having an experienced old head around as a back up.
how old is david de gea? age is nothing. . . .definitely, there will be errors here and there and that is the learning curve.

I agree that Wenger likes specialists, but surely there are better 'specialists' than Koscielny available? huh Even if Kos is that good, surely he would need a season to understudy someone else instead of being thrown into the flames from the get go?
kos was supposed to understudy vermaelen. . . . .vermaelen's injury has nothing to do with wenger, does it?

Secondly, your players must be suitable to the league you're playing in - we need aerially dominant CBs (or at least one of them) to give our defence adequate cover.
hammer hits nail(at last). . . . .this to me is the fundamental problem of arsenal fc. arsenal's style of play does not suit the premier league. i am confident arsenal can win la liga, bundesliga, serie a, etc. . . .but with teams like birmingham, stoke, blackburn and bolton, arsenal's sexy football gets found out and with spastic english referees and demonic english fans who love the physical game, wenger's philosophy is a waste of time and resources.

wenger must scrap the whole "trying to play like barcelona" and stick to the scripts that worked for him in the vieira era. the invincibles combined artistry with blood and thunder. if the opponents try to play proper football, they play it. . . .if the opponents want it the thuggish way, you have criminals like lauren, keown, vieira, parlour, etc to get dirty. that diversity is lacking these days. arsenal's biggest thug now is jack wilshere which is laughable. grin

No GK in that list, the CB you mentioned had one year of Ligue 1 experience. How do they compare with the personnel at our competitors?
sczcesny is a bloody good goalie. . . .he could be the next petr cech if he cops a good pre-season under his belt. you have to also admit wenger uses specialists in every department of his team. the kind of players wenger buys are very rare. . .he wants all of them to be highly technical, comfy in possession and good passers of the ball(most times wenger chooses these qualities above physicality).

In terms of headbutts, he's already the next Zinedine Zidane. I dunno if he compares on other fronts. grin

Translation: Sign players that will give your best players the belief that the team is going somewhere, not forcing them to play with dross like Denilson, Eboue and Almunia, and has-beens like Rosicky. Give them an indication that your club intends to fight for trophies and not just hang around to admire the ribbons on the trophy.
chamakh, arshavin, koscielny, etc were added to the squad - why didn't their signings give the belief you are craving for?

PS - Arsenal allegedly turned down a £10m bid for Diaby. Does anyone agree with that decision?
diaby(the next zinedine zidane)? i won't sell him for £100m. arsene wenger is right for turning the bid down. grin

These expensive schools have some of the best teachers, great programs, exposure through traveling and a great alumni network. Going to a poor, wretched school will leave you poor. Private and expensive schools are wayyyyy better than public schools except those public schools that have a rich tradition and a huge Alumni base that donate frequently for the school's upkeep.
and this is the reason i will send my wards to the most expensive school in nigeria if i can afford it. it is highly imperative for one's wards to stay in touch with that upper-class strata throughout his development.

Utd's determination to get their summer spending sorted early has been impressive. Targets identified, deals being signed with minimal fuss.

When you see Utd has signed 3 players and are almost done with their transfer business, you realise the disruptive nature of having an ongoing saga every summer at the club.

If I’m a player Arsene is trying to sign and he’s not sure whether the best player at the club is staying or not, do you think I’ll be keen to sign?

Apart from the Frenchies grin who will sign regardless just because of Arsene, any other quality player would like to know what the set up is - either Cesc is leaving and we are buying so and so as a replacement and so on, or you’re joining Arsenal to play alongside Cesc, RVP and the one and only Komrade Eboue grin

Next season is looking ominous with Utd’s spending - if the champions are spending £50m and it’s not even July yet, heaven knows how much Chelski will throw out, not to mention Citeh and Liverpool.

The sooner we get this uncertainty sorted out, the better.

if a woman wants the non-cheating ones, they should date that unkempt brother that works as a gate-keeper in the nearest cemetary. the brother with patched trousers, who knows nothing about sex cos he's never had the opportunity or resources to date a woman all his life. this brother is naive, he knows nothing apart from his books or the trade he learnt.
I am a man in my early thirties and I think I have the right to express my opinion.

Men cheat because of their innate greed. They are not satisfied with one woman. I have heard men say that Being Intimate with many women is very sweet. Now what is that supposed to mean ? That women are sex objects ? It matters to note here that the same desire that makes men to have many houses and cars is the same desire that may make men have many wives or one wife and many mistresses.

Men cheat because of uncontrollable lust. I cannot say that I have not been a victim of lust in the past. But I believe that GOD has given us the power to overcome the temptation of lust so that we can make lust to lose its ability to energise us enough to transform out lustful thoughts into ACTION. I have lived with boys who have stable girlfriends, and yet still quietly patronise other women for one-night stands. I am about to get married, and throughout my long-distance relationship with my fiancee, I have never thought of cheating on her - lustfulness notwithstanding. Lust will never master me, because my mind is the temple of GOD.

Men cheat because of a vain ego. They think that the number of women you sleep with adds more respect to you as a man among your male peers. I am sorry to say this ideology is fed by the fact that we are in a male-dominated world. But if the truth must be said, this smacks of intimate recklessness and irresponsibility.

Men fail to realise that all women have the same physical make-up. The intimate intercourse you will have with Tina will not differ from the one you will have with Angela. It only endangers your health because you are not going to test Angela for STIs before you jump in. If your wife is not good in bed, why not teach her ? If you have a problem with her, why not settle it amicably ?
Best of all, ensure that your woman is someone whose weaknesses you can permanently tolerate before you marry her, or don't marry and make every woman you meet know your stand, so that they know what you stand for.

I have thought about this question for many years. This is my own school of thought on why men cheat.
and you want me to believe you are a man, seriously?

my question to you is when is your next menstrual period? smiley

Disagree. Nigeria, unfortunately is one of those places where the money you pay for a service does not always correlate to the quality you get. Everything with very limited exceptions in Nigeria is about class and social standing.
i will also disagree with you here. while you may be right about nigeria being a place where the money you pay doesn't always correlate with the quality you get, the big spenders still get far more quality than the other divide. it is nigeria, i don't expect to pay 100 and get the value of 100 in return. i expect to pay 100 and get the value of 50. . . .but the ones who pay 80 will get lower than the value of 50. it's the way it works in nigeria.

Also wrong, same can be said of the Alumni of KC, GCI, QC, Baptist Boys etc all government schools
coincidentally, all these schools are old as the great wall of china. compare like for like. . . .compare the alumni of chrisland to the alumni of a public school that was established in the same year as chrisland and the difference will be clear to you. you cannot compare the alumni of kings college(a school formed in 1403 b.c. grin) to chrisland college that was established in the 90s. if there was a private school as old as kings college, their alumini will be better.

But I will not waste so much money on a toddler by sending them to a school that charges that much for nursery.
different strokes for different folks. if i can afford it, i will be more than glad to pay such amount. i will reap the benefits later someway somehow. no amount is too obscene to pay as far as quality education is concerned. whether the child now applies himself to the quality is not the fault of the school, the parents and the child's immediate environment must share that responsibility.

Nothing really came of those that graduated in those schools when the schools were in their prime. All the kids knew was to show-off and speak with a stewpid western accent like if they were not Nigerians. I ain't hating! grin

Sagamite:
I think you make some fundamental errors there.

1. From my knowledge of Nigeria, it is the norm that the amount you pay does not necessarily reflect the quality you get.
not with the kind of money involved. a child raised in an expensive private school will have more quality than his counterpart in a public school in nigeria.

2. You are assuming the more you pay in Nigeria, the more likely your ward will succeed. Where are all those kids that paid a fortune back in the day to attend the posh schools (Crisland, Atlantic Hall, Adesoye College, Bells etc). Are they the most successful kids nowadays? Not the ones I have seen sha.
after few years, all these schools declined in quality. . . .they all started well but the maintenance quality suffered. the first few sets of students that attended all these schools were better than their counterparts in igbobi college or st. finbarrs'. even if they aren't the most successful kids, they keep a strong alumni association that still puts them through in job searching and other stuffs. something you will rarely find in the other divide.

3. You need to understand how most kids of high-powered Nigerians end up. The ones from the North especially. A significant number are just coke heads. I wouldn't want my kids networking with such, my work is hard enough.
the ones i have met are extremely successful. the moment they finish their degree programme abroad, they all travel back to nigeria for mouth-watering jobs. i have never found any hausa bloke in the uk hustling like normal nigerians. . . .they are powerfully connected. granted, you might find the strays who chose to use drugs and other vices but majority of them are back in nigeria heading conglomerates and industries - the kind of friends you need in nigeria.

4. Considering the calibre of people that can afford such in Nigeria, I would not want my kids mixing with kids of criminals that the values they can only offer their kids is the knowledge that stealing is the key to riches. I want my kids to value hard work and its rewards.
the funniest bit is majority of "these kids" don't always share the idealism of their parents. some of them were shipped abroad at a very young age, schooled abroad all their lives and have no idea of what their dad does until they read about them in the papers. that a man is criminal does not make his kids criminal. . . .

5. Money is not my driving factor in child rearing, it is values and character. If they learn that, I am fine. That will get you places in most places in the world not only chaotic Nigeria.
in nigeria, without money there is no value. where are you going to find value without putting some amount of green uns on education?

I will never spend that on a toddler except if there is a case for security reasons.

Wetin them wan teach am for nursery except ABC, to eat cookies, drink milk and poo in a bucket (abi wetin dem they call that child toilet)?
apart from security reasons. . . .there are other far greater issues. things you will only see if you have stayed in nigeria before. . . .
even in the developed world, what kind of kids do you think attend eton? how do you think eton choose the kind of students they admit in their college? don't they use a quota to choose the brightest students from a specially selected private schools in the uk?

Please enlighten me by explaining the reasons.
if it's affordable, i will gladly pay 800k per term for my ward in any school in nigeria. besides, the quality education that is guaranteed, money cannot buy the network of friends/class-mates that child will have growing up in life. in such schools, the children of the high and mighty are always present and the best legacy one can give one's child especially in a chaotic country like nigeria is the tools he would need to later succeed in life.

45 goals, 14 assists in 75 starts is an outstanding return for a rookie forward. . . . .he's by far an important piece for barcelona than cesc will ever be for barcelona. pedro has also scored at least one goal in every club competition has featured in.

You just told us they play different positions and that Pedro copped more minutes(World Cup) in the same breath. Pedro was competing with Jesus Navas, Cesc was competing with Xavi, do the math. I believe we've already had this debate a few days ago.
the argument is this. . . . .if cesc is good enough, del bosque will fit him into that starting line-up. iniesta will move upfront and demote pedro to the bench.

I don't know why Pep does that. Surely they are better off with Villa leading the line.
messi scored 53 goals and 24 assists from that position. . . .are you sure villa can match that?

To be honest Barcelona don't need Cesc. Just imagine Cesc, Pedro, Sanchez, Mascherano, Affellay and Thiago competing for one slot in the team. That should be illegal cheesy

how so? he started from the bench more times than starts. . . .i think pedro is an excellent player. . .he has done more at barcelona than cesc has done for arsenal in everyone's opinion. grin

Pedro cannot lace Cesc's boots. He will only play ahead of him if Pep wants an extra forward.
how did you come up with this comparison? cesc is a central midfielder, pedro is a wing forward. pedro copped more minutes at the world cup than cesc!

Of course there will be some rotation but i guess this is how they'll line up more often than not.

         Busquets

        Xavi    Cesc

Was Zlatan or Villa bought to bench warm? huh
The really expensive players are bought to start.
like chrygynsky? shocked shocked shocked

Cesc was playing regularly at a younger age than those players you mentioned. He needs a proper break to recuperate and return to form.
what has playing regularly at a younger age gotta do with this? messi started playing regularly at a younger age and he averages 50 games a season. his form has never been in question. barcelona don't rate cesc enough. . . .if they want him that desperately, they will match arsenal's valuation.

they made more than £100m in prize money after last season's campaign. . . . .

they can even sell pedro to inter milan or do a part-exchange with arsenal to snap cesc.

They can't afford him because he is a luxury - if they pay the fee Arsenal is asking for and he has to sit on the bench, that doesn't make sense.
they can afford him. . . . .they just don't value him that much. . . .there's nothing wrong with a £40m player sitting on the bench for big teams. . . kaka does for real madrid, berbatov does for man utd, etc. barcelona are a big team with the smallest squad size ever - they need cesc and they will rotate with xavi/iniesta.

Xavi is still at the peak of his powers and Cesc will always be a sub compared to him, so paying over 40m for a bench warmer is madness, even for Barca.
xavi won't start all the 50 games in one season. xavi is getting old too. barcelona would be thinking of playing him in the big games only and cesc can come on in the insignificant games to keep xavi fresh for the top games.

Even with the so called stinker of last, he made 14 assists. He's still young, still getting better and still has 4 seasons on his contract. The rubbish about depreciation is only being peddled in the hope that Arsenal would accept a lower fee. Better chance of Arsene signing Remi Garde again than accepting a reduced valuation on Cesc.
so you don't think cesc had a better season 12 months ago than last season?
