nateevs: Are you saying that because they are bottom team? Arsenal are never pragmatic. Why should they? Plus how many small teams successfully defend leads. It's not Ian's philosophy and I praise him for that.
That said I think their problems stem from not being able to defend well. Minor defensive errors make them concede silly goals. Given one more season in the PL, I believe that can be sorted.
it won't be sorted. the defence department must be solid and must have been together for a while to stand the test of time in the premier league. this is what tony pulis got right when his team got to the premier league. he got himself no-nonsense defenders and he got his team to play to their own strength. stoke city can never ever relegate in the premier league. their style is not pretty but it's appetisingly effective.
debosky: ^^ Martinez likes to be too posh. . . .maybe he'll work on his footie more than his grammar if they go down.
what they lack is quality defence. from the midfield to the attack, they are at par with most teams in the europa league zone. martinez has wigan playing some exquisite football. too advanced for the quality of players he has got in his kitty. the only bottom side who don't park the bus against big teams.
snowdrops: ok now mr messiah, best manager in history, . . . . some persons are either too ignorant, arrogant or clueless. your argument is greatly flawed but sadly
i don't understand your agbero logic. i am putting it to you wenger is the best out there. the least you could have done is to put my theory apart by making smart points not talking about arrogance or ignorance. if you have any point to discredit wenger's managerial brilliance, bring them forth otherwise shut the hell up. i don't tolerate tools.
chamotex: Duduspace to me = Mr. Bean I can't take him serious.
why are we still in the mode of "in fergie will trust". i expect our caption to have changed to "champions of england" by now. chamotex, pop do something!
medjai: This ish is so funny. Messi reached the 50 goal mark way way before did. Messi scored his 51st and 52nd goals in a crucial CL s/final against Madrid; a game in which Ronaldo featured in. Ronaldo scored 11 goals in meaningless, dead rubber matches, when there was nothing to play for anymore. He only surpassed Messi's goal tally after Barca had won the league.
no game is meaningless, this argument is very weak. la liga is a 38-game competition and any goal scored in that period counts for the pichichi. whoever got to the 50 goal-mark first makes no difference. there was a season kanu got to the 10-goal mark first ahead of rooney, drogba, torres, etc in the premier league. fact remains ronaldo would win the pichichi and messi is so far behind.
you herbs make idiotic comments like ronaldo scoring 11 goals in meaningless games or against weak teams. the question is, did messi score all his 50+ goals against the big teams of la liga. did he not score 90% of his goals against weak sides too? you guys should argue and reason objectively. a goal is a goal whether it's against almeira or real madrid. it's not like ronaldo has never scored against barcelona - yes, messi scored 2 goals that eliminated madrid in europe. . . . .i would have scored against a 10-man madrid side too.
snowdrops: when you wake up from your nightmare let us know nko
what nightmare? is it easy for a manager to go unbeaten in one season? manage a club without heavy debt and keep them competing in the toughest league in europe? wenger is the messiah of managers.
dayokanu: Fergie, Mourinho Van Gall, Pep, Heyckenees are wining Champions league Wenger dey win IFFHS
Even a 33yr old coach just won Europa cup with Porto
What a disgrace
the world should watch out for villas-boas. he is the next jose mourinho. he won his league unbeaten, won europa cup and he's got porto playing like barcelona. he is the 'special one'.
debosky: Would a similar analysis not prove that Gyan had more playing time than Chamakh? You can't pick and choose your arguments. If Osaze is better than Gyan merely by a measure of appearing for more minutes, then the same applies to Chamakh vs Gyan.
goals/min stats have taken care of that. i was just reminding dork dipo2much who feels 15 goals vs 10 goals is the key to determine who performed well. 15 is more than 10 but then if you carefully consider goals scored per min spent on the pitch, there's nothing between asamoah and osaze.
chamakh, 7 league goals in 1755 mins. . . . .chamakh has 1 goal every 250 mins asamoah, 10 league goals in 1926 mins. . . . asamoah has 1 goal every 192 mins.
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo tonight broke the Primera Division record for goals in a single season after netting his 39th of the campaign against Almeria.
Cristiano Ronaldo now has 39 league goals this season and is in pole position to win the Pichichi Ronaldo needed just five minutes of Madrid's final game of the season against already-relegated Almeria to seal his place in the record books.
Xabi Alonso's free-kick to the far post was headed back across goal by Sergio Ramos and the unmarked Ronaldo was on hand to poke in the opening goal of the game.
That strike saw Ronaldo move one clear of the previous all-time record, which he jointly held with Madrid's Hugo Sanchez, from the 1989-90 season, and the legendary Athletic Bilbao striker Telmo Zarra, who achieved the feat during the 1959-60 campaign.
Ronaldo, who had scored nine goals in his previous three games heading into Saturday's fixture, has now netted 52 in all competitions for Madrid this season.
I just want to ask you one question only. What single word is used to describe a person who keeps doing the same thing and expecting a different result?
dipo2much: You said gyan's 10 goals is 'monumental'. †нє fact is its not. Its not even sufficient when u consider how many osaze scored, or chamack's 7 having come on a free. You should check what a †нє word monumental means
if you are not a plonker, you would know osaze has played 756 league minutes more than gyan. . . . .that's about 8 full matches and 30 mins to spare. of course, osaze should have more goals unless you are hopelessly deluded. i have given you the ratio of their respective goal/mins and the difference is negligible. i repeat, gyan and osaze had a monumental debut season but chamakh had a woeful season.
Rooney has got to be the most overrated in the history of football. . .
Dude can't even score a free header and yet he's being labelled one of the best players in the world.
In his dreams!!!
mamagee, who is this player?
montelik: I would pick Fletcher everyday, but if he ain't fit I won't pick him. If it means putting O'Shea there or even Park so be it. I would sooner do that than field a half fit & half form player, against one of d fittest and most in-form side in Europe this season, more so in a one-off final.
And if those option don't work, then I would change d formation and strategy, but I will not for sentiment sake sacrifice d team chances to win, for d feel good factor of playing a guy who clearly isn't ready, simply cos he missed out on other occasions.
I really hope Fletcher can prove how far he has come tomorrow so he can warrant a starting position. But if he can't, its better we start planning without him than trying push him too hard when he isn't ready.
i will have a half-fit fletcher do the destroyer role than a fully-fit ryan giggs or gibson. however, you might have a point with park playing in the middle in a 4-2-1-3 formation.
Indoor football for a whole season will not adequately prepare you for a final against Barcelona. He didnt play 90mins against Schalke. Training full pelt would not prepare you for a CL final. No way on earth would SAF consider the fact that Fletcher is a fellow scot before deciding on his line-up. NEVER, EVER. Also it wasnt SAF that left him out of '09, he was suspended. In terms of who plays as the destroyer, i honestly dont know, but SAF is the best in the business and Im willing to accept whatever decision he makes if Fletcher plays or not. Im sure he would know best seeing his condition day in day out.
the cl-final is still one week away. this is about doing what is absolutely necessary to win a game in 90 mins. there's no replay or 2nd leg. do what is right, win the game and bring us the cup.
dipo2much: ^ Either gyan was sun'land record signing or not, at least £13 is a far cry from what west brom paid for Osaze. All your 'ifs' don't amount to sh1t. Either osaze scored 14 penalties or not, he musta earned †нє confidence of †нє manager for him to be entrusted with takin penalties. If Gyan was 'monumental', what is osaze?
Plus, what has disgrace got to do with a PUBLIC FORUM? You are just a disturbed kid, coogar
you don't argue rationally. you told us earlier osaze contributed far better than asamoah, i proved your claim was wrong. what has paying 13 million gotta do with it? gyan was a world cup star - his 13 million price-tag was jusitified last summer. osaze was a world cup flop - his cheap transfer fee was also commensurate to his performance at the world cup. osaze had a great season, asamoah had a great season, chamakh had a poor season.
