dayokanu: ^^ Do you now see the number of big games Arsenal played with only one striker

Thats to show that playing a lone striker didnt start in 2011
they didn't have plenty of options to start with.....so you are only scratching the surface. arsenal had crocks in eduardo, van persie and vela so their options were limited. even if the manager is an acolyte of 4-4-2, he couldn't have played the formation. that season, eduardo only started 13 times in the premier league and surprise surprise, he had only one champions league start!

dayokanu: Are you the doc that says he isnt reliable? There was another striker on the bench in those games I posted there. If they are not up to your standard then you should ask Arsenal why they put them on the bench
do i have to be a doctor to know eduardo was finished in 2010? how many games did he play up until the barca game? how many minutes under his belt? if what arsenal could line up against barcelona are 2 strikers(bendtner/eduardo)in a travelling squad then you should know it's a no-brainer that only one of them would start......your claim would have more bite if there was van persie, adebayor, vela on the bench.....

dayokanu: The retention football they play is what denies the opposition the ball the pressing just helps in that it increases turnovers . Barcelona players dont take risks with the ball they dont punt and they would rather recylcle the ball untill a clear chance present itself the same way Spain plays. Its this recycling that keeps the ball with them and with football magnets like Xavi and iniesta its like bread and butter. Its what they learn from La Masia keeping the ball check one youtube footage of Barcelona kids under 8 and see what they do the same way the first team plays
it's a bit of both but their pressing game takes the lion share. barcelona lose possession too.....they get tackled but they quickly recover the ball! there was a deadline guardiola set then(can't remember if it's 10 or 20 secs) for barca to quickly get the ball back.

You mean only one of MAZACAR would be playing? Do you know the combined transfer fee for them? And these are the only creative Spark in the team you want to reduce to just one?
how many times has benitez played all of them in one swoop? yet you accuse another that this ain't fantasy football. how many flair players can a team like chelsea accommodate? i am a fan of 4-2-3-1(don't get it twisted) but torres and ba can play together. van persie/rooney are playing together.......tevez/aguero play together. sometimes balotelli starts with one of the argentine players - why can't ba/torres? hell, even berbatov/rooney dovetailed...

You saw how things went vs West ham when only one of them was on the field The play was horrible
the west ham game was a poor general performance.....chelsea have won games emphatically as well without playing MAZACAR together!

dayokanu: How can anyone say Arsenal played 4-4-2 till 2011?While fabregas was there they played lone striker formations. Which top team did Arsenal play between 2007 and 2011 where they played double strikers.
tottenham 1-3 arsenal(adebayor + van persie)
arsenal 4-4 tottenhaml(adebayor + van persie)

I can give you several examples of games where they played lone strikers between that period
by the same token, i can give you loads of examples where they played with 2 strikers.
arsenal 1-1 liverpool(ade + van persie)
Started games with Chamakh and bendtner? Can you give examples because the Only season Chamakh and bendtner played together at Arsenal Bendtner started 3 league games (Assuming all these 3 games were started with Chamakh then that means Arsenal started a grand total of 3 league games with Chamakh-Bendtner)

Eduardo spend 2 seasons together with Adebayor at Arsenal and He was fit only for half a season
you are not making any point......
i am telling you arsenal played games with 442 formation in the seasons you claim they ditched the formation!

chamotex: Saw one on twitter: Oscar+Ba+Mata = OBAMA.
It's fair to say MAZACAR is over
MAZACAR is the universal acronym!
OSZAMA is the nairaland version - quite razz!!
OBAMA is another one for football fans looking for trouble.

dayokanu: Does Chelsea play a retention game like barca does? Barcas retention starves the opponent of the ball thats why they are able to play Mascherano, Song, Busquets in defence and get away with it. let Chelsea too try and play Mikel, Ramires or lampard in Central defence and see how it would turn out.
so it's the retention football that barca play that denies their opponents the ball or their ability to hunt in packs and take the ball back. i am not sure you watch barcelona quote often. what they do without the ball is more impressive than what they do with it. pedro, busquets, iniesta, villa hunt for the ball like a pack of wolves. they don't give opposition's defenders a breathing space to even collect from the goalie. they press from the opponent's penalty box.....that's the key to their success(defending from the front)!

What tracking back does Ronaldo or messi do? Mata and Hazard cant track back, They are light weight and Tracking back takes a lot out of their game and their main advantage which is creativity would be wasted
the ronaldo of man utd tracked back......when he became lazier to do it, he got massive criticism from team mates and the manager too. berbatov is the only player on the planet that is given the license not to press or track back! messi helps out in the midfield - he's a false 9.

3-5-2? Most 3-5-2 still need 2 defensive guys in the middle
Who would be the 3 Centrals? Who would be the 2 wings backs, the 2 DM and lone 10?
3 centrals(terry, ivanovic, cahill)
2 midfielders(ramirez mikel)
2 wingbacks(azpec cole)
1 attacking mid(anyone of MAZACAR)
2 strikers(ba n torres)

dayokanu: I disagree.
disagree with what?

Arsenal has been 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 for a while before the coming of Chamakh. I think since 2006/2007 they stopped using 4-4-2 Adebayo striked alone, Later part Henry striked alone.
that's a lie - they never really left 4-4-2 until 2011. there were some games they started bendtner n chamakh.....in adebayor's days, he played with eduardo few times too.

Moreover Chamakh came from Bordeaux who played 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 So he is not new to that system. He was played as a lone striker in front of Gourcouff
but he did well in his first 5 months in england. 10 goals + 7 assists in his first 22 apps(before december). van persie's form from january 2011 just blew up like nitro and chamakh never recovered!

This is not Fantasy fotball
stop shouting!
either one of lampard, mikel or ramirez can replace any of the diamond midfield. barcelona play with one defensive midfielder - you don't have to play 2 defensive midfielders - there are several ways to skin a cat. as an aside, benitez can go for the jugular and play 3-5-2 formation. can ba/torres play together? yes, they can be played together. hazard, mata and oscar must learn how to track back and defend. rooney, ronaldo, messi, villa, etc do that on the regular - why can't MAZACAR?

The same Chamakh that 3 seasons ago Debo was gushing about the penalties he was winning for the team not the goals he was scoring?

How can anyone see Chamakh and think anything good would come out of him at the top level? Once again Debos lack of football knowledge has been shown again

chamakh actually started well but he's so unlucky that he was bought when arsenal switched to 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 formation. chamakh needs a strike partner, he cannot lead alone and when he was demoted back to the bench, his confidence got shot to pieces and he never recovered from it.

dayokanu: How does a striker get chances when he doesnt make himself available for passes
that's a big lie!
it's well documented chelsea create the least number of chances in the top 4. putting that blame on torres is irresponsible. he's not the only one conditioned to score at chelsea and yet the number of chances chelsea create is a disgrace.

If we follow your analogy We can say Defenders and keepers are always to blame for losses. Because if they stopped the opponent from scoring the team wont lose.
the fact remains if you don't concede, you cannot lose! who else do you blame when you lose? the striker? a football game starts with 0-0. if the strikers fail to score, it does not change the result to 0-1......it's still 0-0!!

So whats the job of strikers to just loaf around the field?
the job of a striker is to score but if he doesn't score - the match should end 0-0. the job of a defender is to defend. if he fails to defend well, his team would lose.

By almost all rating Torres was adjudged the worst player on the field yesterday. Facing a keeper and blasting the ball senselessly.
these ratings are done by charlatans like ibime and yourself - i don't focus on match ratings, i focus on the more critical issues. i would blame torres if he had 12 attempts at goal and failed to score. i would blame torres if he squandered half-a-dozen clear cut chances. however, i wouldn't blame him for failing to score when the whole chelsea team only had 2 shots on target in the entire game.

Is that How van persie plays his own
See how someone placed his own chance why didnt he do an "ANYWHERE BELLE FACE" Thats why RVP has more goals in 4 months than Torres in the last 2 years
van persie played in a team that copped 7 shots on target against wigan - surely, that's enough for him to score goals. however, a team that had 2 shots on target all game leaves no margin for error. that's the difference!

so in a nutshell, chelsea lost because torres did not score? this is tunnel vision at its best.....chelsea lost because they conceded - the match could have ended 0-0 had lampard closed down his man instead of his heaviness. the match stats have proven what i need to know. chelsea made 26 attempts - only 2 on target, 13 off target and 11 of their attempts were blocked.

torres made only 3 attempts of the 26. he had one on target, one off target and one blocked shot. 23 attempts were made by the other players in the team. how then can we blame torres for chelsea not scoring last night when he had only 3 attempts at goal?

in perspective,
torres(3 goal attempts)
suarez(7 goal attempts)
hernandez(6 goal attempts)
defoe(7 goal attempts)
aguero(6 goal attempts)

dayo, it's amazing how the astute can analyse stats and how some of youse imbibe the herd mentality like sheep. chelsea create far too little for torres to impose himself. that's the stats across the league in game week 21 and torres had the least chances created for him in the top 6. if the benchmark of a striker's chance conversion is 25% and he only gets 3 chances.....how many goals would be score? 0.75 goal? grin i reiterate - only a lunatic would blame the loss last night on torres!

Johnpaul88: Messi 'll win the World cup when his team mates and Argentina are ready for it. Football is a team work not an individual work. If Messi and Aguero keeps scoring and the defence keeps conceding, then they may never win.

But since Messi was handed the captain arm ban, under Alejandro Isabella , he 's really grown to be the leader of the team. Their team have been pretty consistent in 2012 and has risen in the fifa ranking to 3rd from lowly 9th at the turn of the year. It shows they are moving in the right direction ahead of the world cup.

And talking about the world cup, Argentina sit comfortably at the top of their qualifying table. So if any team is ready for this world cup, it is Argentina. They may yet win in Brazil and you Messi haters will have no more defence.
when his team-mates are ready for him? maradona never used that excuse and trust me messi has better players around him now than maradona ever did. tevez, aguero, higuain, milito, cambiasso, zanetti, heinze are top quality players and yet messi cannot win copa america.....messi got undressed by mesut ozil......messi got annihilated by suarez/forlan. abeg, messi needs some soul-searching!
