chic2pimp: Bad News 4 the Three Lions!!!bad news for england? lampard would have displayed another shower of shyte performance! |
odumorun 1: UNILAG IS A BRAND NAMEthis always makes me laugh....unilag is a brand name. mko abiola is a bigger brand than unilag. what yeye brand name is unilag? it's not even the best uni in the south west let alone nigeria. unilag students should pipe low and accept their fate or be destroyed by it. denzel2009: You see, the stakeholders are different. Apart from the cost implications, the process of verification and sending of student transcripts to other higher institutions around the world and the discrepancies which would need to be explained every now and then.the government would fund the cost implication. sending of students transcripts to other higher institutions around the world is no issue. mko abiola university is still @ akoka, they didn't move base to badagry. |
shymmex: The old western region was the first in everything in Nigeria..because british ships berthed in lagos and the old western region had more interactions with foreigners than any other part of nigeria. the first tv station in africa was in ibadan. the old western region was that dope! |
snellsun: u speak witout wisdom. just go thru wat u av just written again and see ur ignorance.you're a silly hilly billy! what i wrote has more wisdom than your entire being. denzel2009: It makes a lot of difference changing names be it human being or an establishment. Do you know the stress women go through after marriage and adopting their husband's name? Apart from that, if you set up a company and run it for just 2 months and decide to change the name, the process you will go through with companies house and the alteration of your company's articles coupled with various resolutions to that effect will make you think twice.but it's still done. why didn't paying customers protest when econet became v-mobile and fuckever name they call themselves now? why didn't nigerians protest when nepa became phcn...the only thing constant in life is "change" Some nutter just woke up one morning with his charcoal face and speedboat of a hat and decides to change the name of an institution of higher learning without due consultations and brainstorming of the the effects of the change.thanx for making this point. we would still refer maul as unilag but for now, they should take the name with pleasure and move on with their lives. the name maul does not devalue the certificate or change the dynamics. |
1025: man u are paying for their fraudulent approach to the mikel's issue where ferguson fraudulently signed mikel and at the end sold him triple of his fraudulent price.you talk a lot of bullshit for a man... |
afam4eva: Whoever gave this woman that title couldn't have been right you know. How did they know that someone did not drive a car before her and was not captured. I can understand that of the first woman to fly a plane because planes were very few in the country at that time and people would definitely notice if one flew a plane. Especially if it's a woman.except that if her name was onyeka nnamani, history would have been right. you're just a bigoted cunt looking for another cheap way to start your usual tribal jousting to get your orgasms. she's the first woman to drive a car in nigeria. that was well documented in her biography. she was one of the few nigerians that studied abroad between age 19-22. how many cars were in naija in the 30s, 40s, 50s? |
@ cooger....no need to comment on ur "lugubriuos" falacy cos ur brain is entwined in a state of dismah-bismah....fcuktard
this half-wit is still justifying his idiocy on a public forum. you should have been aborted! |
@coogar.....I hope u see dis.... I used to fink beaf was he only fool on dis forum but now I know ur the presido of fools cos ur stup.idity superceeds that of even the retarded Jonadunce himself.... Am sure you attended a poly or never even got anywhere in the learning world, you lack taste ans style....that's why you know nothing about the numerous positive effects of branding... Nd as for the target practice u want the kids to be subjected to, just thank your star I don't knw u...would have shown u what it feels like...... U blady skunk....
you're a consummate retard! what do you know about branding? a man that gave his life and that of his wife for democracy in nigeria is being pissed on by some miscreants who call themselves students and you sit your diseased arse there and ranting about branding? your brains should be donated to the ape kingdom. |
shymmex: I don't really know much about the educational system in Nigeria, but what I can deduce from the debate so far is that - the president didn't follow the due course in changing the name of the university.. Let's all agree that he was wrong - but how does that change the 'content'?the name change devalues the glorified whorehouse. ![]() aristos might now prefer going to yabatech instead of maulag! ![]() shymmex: Didn't Obama go to war in Libya without the approval of the Senate?oh wait....i saw 200 million americans on the street protesting the move. if the president has to consult everyone before he sneezes, shytes and pukes then he's not fit to lead. |
Beaf: The people technically have no say, bro.they are tenants. they have no ownership. it's what the landlord dictates they must follow. which of their father's bank accounts was used to build unilag? rubbish! jonathan is a mumu president. abacha would have 6 armoured trucks on the campus before renaming. let's now see who dem born well wey go protest. all4naija: Please, stop saying all these! It makes the Nigerian citizens to be looked down upon by foreigners. It doesn't speak good of the people. That's not what the law says.i should stop stating facts? that nigerians went hyper for days and after a while they ended up paying 97 per litre? or the fact that some tools staged occupy lekki for 2-3 days and then got tired? ok...nigerians are not cowards! happy now? ![]() |
What on earth are you talking about. Nothing is free on this planet, somebody pays for it GEJ is not the supreme landlord of anything. He is simply one member of the executive branch of the FG
if he's not....why did he even attempt to change the name in the first place? jonathan is the executive president of nigeria. if his wife can make lagos stand still when she visited, then renaming a university that belongs to him is a stroll in the park. lag students would resume in a fortnight to see that the change of name has come to stay! all4naija: Step on their rights and be ready to face an-unending-disturbing music.like the subsidy removal? like the lekki toll plazas? na today? una go shout for one week and gladly go back to your ground state. ![]() the excited state would soon be over. ![]() |
all4naija: That is laughable. Let me tell you that tenants are highly respected in developed world. They have their rights and are entitled to them. Landlord can just evict a tenant out of building without binding laws. You are speaking of a dictator though.sadly, nigeria is not a developed world. in a developed world, unruly students won't take to the streets because of such a minor issue. so why do you expect the government to act like they are in a developed world when the citizens behave like depraved animals?
I don't agree. The relationship is not human being/book or other inanimate object. But parent/child. Unilag is an institution, entity of its own.
parent/child? then education should be free if it's parent-child. it's a landlord/property relationship. the students are tenants. the authorities @ unilag are the caretaker and jonathan goodluck is the supreme landlord. Katsumoto: Come on pleaseexcept that the name change did not affect the reputation/prestige of university of ife!!! the students took it in their strides and moved on. within a matter of years, oau even became louder than unife. why are unilag students behaving like hoodlums? the name change does not reduce the value of unilag. it's still the most prestigious school in lagos state. it would not reduce their standard(cut-off marks) neither will it fail to attract the best brains in nigeria. |
Katsumoto: GEJ is a custodian of the office. Alumni and students are the biggest stakeholders and should be consulted before the name change.so jonathan would bring himself down to sit with students and alumni about renaming his own property. students are just tenants. after 4-5 yrs, they leave the school. lecturers would also retire or move elsewhere. the property still remains federal government's. i still don't see how this issue equates to running amok on the major roads of lagos and disturbing the traffic in the city.
Lol. It is more the business of students, lecturers, administration and alums than that of the FG. After all, they have far more vested interest in the well-being of their alma mater (it seems literally "nourishing mother" in Latin) than someone like GEJ, who is simply playing politics. GEJ and the FG on the other hand...they might rename UNILAG University of Toilet or Feces University if it suits their political purposes.
cos they own it. why didn't jonathan rename covenant university or bowen university? they dare not! but unilag is their own. they can destroy and rebuild it. it's none of anyone's business. all4naija: Not Jonathan property, get that right, but property that belong to the people!nepa belongs to the people too.....were nigerians consulted before the name got changed to phcn! were nigerians consulted when the govt changed police uniform? hell - unilag students are spoilt. |
Katsumoto: Bear,i am 100% in agreement with the approach. it's none of the business of the lecturers, alumni, students or even wole soyinka. alumni are ex-tenants. students are present tenants and the university body is like the caretaker. the landlord of the property is the federal government. their property, their right, their power. angry students should channel their energy into something progressive. all4naija: You speak as if what would be inimical to the life of a university can be put forward by the president without anybody consent, as long as it is federal government property. That by itself is an infringement on the law that govern an ivy league. And, it is not like that anywhere in the world. In-fact, the university is the body to make up such plan!if they don't like it, they should seek admission into private universities where their counterparts pay through their noses to bag degrees. nigerian students are spoilt. if each student carries a debt of £10 million after school to be paid back, they would sit tight and face what they came to school for in the first place. |
all4naija: Should everything be ignored for the sake of it non-importance?! The right of the university is trampled upon.If the president has the right to dictate for the university because it is federal property then there is not right of the students in whatsoever that happens within the enclave. You speak as if all things listed by you and this issue are not mutually exclusive in nature. Right is right, whether is for a particular reason or time it is what it is only that there are different rights.so you are angry jonathan tramples on the right of his own property? what's your stake in this? na you own university of lagos? ![]() |
gohome: Lets give it a rest. You cannot compare Harvard with Unilag. Harvard is private, Unilag isn't. And Unilag is not our Harvard. Remember Yale was renamed, the best school in Nigeria Ife was renamed so y should Unilag be any different.well said, bro! end of discussion. ![]() |
all4naija: You references are insubstantial to the issue at hand. NEPA and fuel subsidy cases are ones of uniquely disturbing issues which have seen disagreement for a long period of time without nothing benefits coming out of them. Even before their renames these sectors had be meted with criticism to be done away with, and renaming them was just one of the options. I don't think they are in line with what's happened to UNILAG.it's the same thing.....nepa is government's property in the same capacity as unilag. they have the right to name it as they please. it's none of the business of the students(whose fees are heavily subsidized by the federal government) or the lecturers(whose salaries are paid by the federal government).... |
koruji: Where are you acquiring all this mega-power for GEJ. There are rules beyond the presidency that governs universities.federal government owns unilag jonathan heads the federal government. he can nuke unilag if he pleases......it's his property! none of the stakeholders own it.....it doesn't belong to their ancestors unilag is a federal university......jeeeez! all4naija: Lol@I wasn't in Nigeria! I don't think that's of no consequence.well, just letting you know i didn't vote for jonathan. i don't have a dog in this fight. i don't like jonathan...i hate his guts but on this issue of renaming unilag, he is within his rights to rename it. it's his property until the next custodian gets the presidency seat. The line in bold is called subjugation and it is pertinent to the military regime. However, mind you it is the same people you are calling his subjects(as less important) also voted him into power. The rightful power in the whole context supposed to belong to the people.the rightful power in the whole context has never been in the hands of the people. did y'all vote to hike the price of fuel? did y;all vote to rename nepa? why are we now asking for democracy for a non-issue like renaming a federal government property? |
all4naija: Which world do you live in? If democracy is your arse why do you accept Jonathan as a civilian president? Indeed, it baffles me to see some Nigerians stepping on the rights of others without twice-thoughtfulness. No where in the world something of this nature is encouraged without the awareness of the university body.sadly for you, i wasn't in nigeria when y'all voted jonathan in... i remember the euphoria/pandemonium that followed his victory especially in the south west....now, the relationship has hit the rock? ![]() Jeez! You are being myopic about the whole thing. The truth is that the president erred by not consulting with the university body on how to go about it. Do you know what a university really means? Universities in essence are supposed to be autonomous, if not that Nigerians don't know their rights!the president won't consult his subjects on a matter like that. the office of the president pays the salaries of the university we are talking about. they can hire/fire the people you want him to discuss with. he can promote/demote the members of the university body. what the heck are you guys talking about? do you consult your driver before painting your car? before changing the number plates of your car? |
CyberG: You are either too young or just not grasping that you cannot compare the circumstances. Here is a few:don't even bring my age into this rubbish. your old age does not guarantee common sense - face the issue instead of the ad hominem sniping. 1. OAU was renamed by a military government that governs by decree (fiat), UNILAG is being renamed by a so called democracy which is supposed to represent the people.except that the federal government owns the institution being discussed. it's their property. did you call for democracy when the same federal government changed nepa to phcn? this hypocrisy is puke inducing. 2. OAU was founded by the SW regional government under Chief Awolowo and he was the first Chancellor of the University, MKO did not have such relationship to UNILAGexcept that his billions was gulped by the same institution in donations and various charitable causes. it was this man that single-handedly took on the military government of abacha whilst the same idiotic professors who have suddenly found their tongues were hiding in the lagoon. 3. UNILAG was established by an act of parliament (the first from what I have read), so any name change must start by going through lawmakers who represent the people to effect the name change! OAU was established by the regional government so, no comparison.except that this act of parliament has no say in naming chancellors and vice chancellors of the same institution being discussed. the federal government appoints the vice chancellors minus democracy. so since when has anything democratic been the foundation of university of lagos? i am missing the point. 4. UNILAG was renamed to in fact demean MKO's legacy as a regional icon when he clearly won in Tofa's state, north, east and west. Why not rename a place in Abuja after him?mko did not stay in abuja. he stayed in lagos. it would be idiotic to name him after uni of abuja or whatever landmark in abuja and there's nothing to say a bigger institution won't be named after him much later. 5. Retardeenchuwkwu renamed UNILAG to deflect attention away from his bottom of the barrel performance in ~3 years as president. Otherwise point to 3 achievements he has on ground in ~3 years without pointing to his eating "cassava bread and ofada rice for N 1 B" retarded policy?this is irrelevant to the topic of discussion. |
all4naija: There is nothing wrong in the renaming of the university but, there has to be information passed around before going about it. There is nowhere in the world, where there is democracy, renaming of a university which is an embodiment of intellectuals is done without their awareness. I think it is done in the wrong way even if it to the honor of a heroic son. No matter the order of the day democracy is the government by the people - and, that sounds the loudest.democracy my arse. do unilag students get to vote who the vice chancellor or chancellor of their school would be? why haven't they fought for that and yet want to fight for the renaming of their school which belongs to the federal government. these useless students pay peanuts as fees heavily subsidized by the same government and yet they have the chutzpah to protest? personally, i think nigerian university students should be paying N1 million per session. if the students pay through their noses to bag their degrees, they would be more responsible in school. the act of thuggery would fade into oblivion in naija unis. the federal government should remove their subsidy in federal schools. it's time to teach these touts some lessons. |
CyberG: It's obvious people like Odumooron, Beaf, Coongar etc never got any education or are just too blinded by hatred to see straight! How can someone claim that a university brand is of no consequence except of course, you have never stepped into any renowned graduate school in the world (1-100) or ever had your resume looked at by any top company in the world: Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc! If you ever came close in your life, you would know that a recognized brand immediately gives some level of confidence for them to appraise your candidature rather than completely removing it from consideration for the likes of Ife, UI, etc whose name is well known all over! Or, do you think while an unknown entity is competing with candidates with brands like Harvard, Stanford, Cornell, MIT, McGill, UBC, Alberta, Toronto, UNILAG, OAU, UI, etc, it will stand even a dot of a chance?? Get out more and get educated and of course, stop "cassetting" all around the place!!OAU was university of ife before federal government changed it to OAU in 1987. the school still holds it's prestige despite that. if the government decides to change it to clifford orji university, i doubt it would dent the reputation of the school. if uni of ife can survive the name change to oau, why can't unilag for feck's sake? |
koruji: The difference between leading and dealing. Period.dealing with who? you want a whole jonathan to sit one on one with some students union government who are high on paraga to discuss naming rights? abeg, cats don't dine with rats. |
Beaf: MKO has been rightly honoured. Why some cannot swallow their bile is perplexing to say the least.this same abiola must have donated billions of naira to unilag. he was a philanthropist! it's a disgrace that unruly students of unilag have decided to honour the great man this way. this was a man that died for the cause of democracy in nigeria. he lost his wife to the assassin's bullets in the same lagos state.....and this is what he gets? what a disgrace!!! |
koruji: Years of military rule has done bad things to Nigerians.i don't care what institution it is. it is owned by the federal government which jonathan now heads. that gives him the power to name it any name he so pleases. unilag is not a private institution, is it? why are nigerians angry over what the owners decide to call their own property? the people protesting this ish....which of their fathers own unilag? ![]() |
koruji: He doesn't control jack. He has authority given to him according to the constitution. He is not omni-Nigerian, just our representative.unfortunately, jonathan is the c-in-c! he's now the custodian of the organisation that owns unilag. you guys voted for him, thankfully. he didn't get there by coup d'etat. was it not barely 12 months ago when nigerians were celebrating/jubilating that jonathan is now in power? what happened all of a sudden? una relationship can't just end like that, can it? ![]() instead of the students to channel their energy into something more productive, they are busy wasting their time fighting a lost cause. |
Since we're just hypothetically talking, I can't refer you to your "lease agreement". But realistically speaking, I can refer back to my own lease. My renters/ maintenance workers must notify me if they need to change anything in my apartment before they can. Repainting the wall can call for a lawsuit. do you know why? Because fresh paint might be my asthma trigger, but they dont know about that because I was never informed before they repainted my apartment. You can argue that out by arguing that he brought harm to me without any intention to do so. However, such thing could have been prevented if a lil noticed had been given.
if a landlord wants to repaint his house, it's a matter of "when" not "why".... when - because he wants you to be aware he's coming. if you're going to be in or not. if you're not in. the landlord would help himself in...do what he's gotta do n leave the place. you cannot ask him why he's painting his house. are you aware the vice chancellor is appointed by the government? the government pays his salary including the academic staff and the non-academic staff. and yet, they have the chutzpah to look into the eyes of their employers and demand the cause of the death of their ancestors. such insolence! jonathan is a mumu president. the only thing i disagree about is this ish should have been done since 98 or 2008(abiola's 10th memorial). it's rather belated and looked like jonathan was trying to appease the south west for the next atrocity he's about to commit. You're not serious.i'm working on the statistics of the number of marriages unilag has broken in nigeria. the stats would shock you. This is getting sentimental. How are we to be certain that those are even the same group of people who laid their lives out in 93/94? If I recall, at 93/94, I wasn't into the politics. Who knew if these student had been properly and respectfully approached, they would have taken it better.the government does not need to.....i mean, is this the first time the government has taken a unilateral decision? the government increases/decreases the fees as they please. they pay wages when they please. they increase/decrease the salaries as they please. so why do the students suddenly expect the government to consult them at national stadium before naming the institution? this is more than the renaming. the oil subsidy issue still burns a hole in the hearts of lagosians. |
koruji: Can you for once make your point without displaying your god-view of President GEJ.he doesn't have to build it to control it....he's the commander-in-chief. no man can lay claims that they build unilag. they are only custodians. jonathan is the custodian now...of the government that owns unilag. he has all the rights to name it anything he so wishes. it's the federal government's property. |
Beaf: Well said (aside from the "target practice" bit).nah - some people need to be made scapegoats. they closed down the whole city today....blocked the whole 3rd mainland bridge.....because their uni was renamed...i mean who cares? people would still refer to it as unilag until our generation f@cks off the planet.
I'm not saying that you do not have the authority to paint your house as you like, but you cannot just go ahead and paint without notifying the tenants. There's usually a signed contract.
where in the tenancy agreement does it say i cannot make changes in the structure of the building? the owner is the owner. he has the right to do whatever on his property as long as he does not bring any harm to his tenants. renaming brings no harm. he named it mko abiola(who must have donated billions of naira to the same institution). Now knowing that Unilag is FG owned, it still does not excuse the disrespectful steps GEJ took towards renaming the school.they can close it down and turn it into a zoological garden. thank feck, the lagoon is behind the school. it would be a perfect tourist attraction. there's still unibadan, uni of ife, uniben, uniport, ado bayero and the federal govt owns them all. they wouldn't lose any sleep over unilag which is a glorified whorehouse anyways. Looking at this at a larger angle, GEJ is ruling the nation without regards to its occupants. May 29th was supposed to be about celebrating democracy, so is democracy not about the people? Is democracy not about serving the people?and he named it after their hero. how many lagosians laid their lives down for abiola in 93/94? even when he died in 98? they must be hundreds of thousands! so jonathan decided to honour the man that fought for democracy in nigeria a university and the students are protesting like ingrates. he didn't name it babangida uni, abacha uni, chukwumerije uni or nzeribe uni? i dunno where this aggression is coming from - probably grudges nursed against jonathan since the subsidy removal. alj harem: did it follow due process, Yes or No !which yeye due process? |
So you'd just go and paint the house without informing the tenant? Without them even knowing of your intention to repaint it?That's unlikely to happen in a civilized society.
why not? my house, my property.... i decide solely whatever goes on there. if any tenant disagrees, he can pack out n leave space for sensible tenants. unilag is a property of the federal government. the students, academic staff, etc are just tenants/labourers. they are no stake-holders...they can be hired n fired by who??....the same federal government. |
OAM4J: I agree with the don.you really agree with the don on this? what difference does it make? unilag, maulag or malulag? the university is owned by the federal government...the vice chancellor was appointed by the federal government. the federal government pays the salaries of the staff.....are you saying they cannot name their own establishment any name they so wish? if you build a house and rent it to tenants, you need their blessings to paint it? gate it? put a borehole or whatever? i just believe nigerians have their priorities misplaced. does the change of name devalue the certificate? does it increase the fees paid by the students? jonathan is indeed a mumu. if i were the president, i would have deployed a thousand s.w.a.t. teams to make those unruly tools some target practice. |
AjanleKoko: Sure.the song fits barcelona perfectly. dumped out of europe by a club that finished 6th in the premier league. then real madrid pissed on them to win la liga by some points. |
