Ibime: Hazard, Mata and such will play their tiki-taka football regardless of any low blocks, switchback or counteraattack instruction. I hope Coogar would not come and tell us (as he claimed about Spain) that they play "too much tiki-taka for Torres".
shut up your idiotic mouth.....who would mata play tiki-taka with?
little did you know mata was bought to bring out the best of torres. in my
opinion, mata is loads better than david silva. he's the best attacking midfielder
in this league....didn't take him years to announce his presence in the worst chelsea
squad under roman.....he must play for torres to blossom. his through-passes are actually
what torres needs to beat off-side traps and leave goalies with their arses planted on the pitch.

Lets look at the so-called front 4 in all these teams. All of em are defensive brutes.
Kuyt, Gerrard, Tevez, Rooney, Samuel Eto', Sneijder, Ronaldo. . . all of em able to soak up pressure in "low blocks" before making their talent count on the counterattack. Contrast with Mata, Hazard, Marin. . . none of em able to soak up the pressure.
don't be silly. hulk or ramirez would be a part of the front 4 i suggested.
there's no way any manager would play marin ahead of hulk. hulk is also a brute and
nando torres is a brute as well. he's bullied vidic before!

You might as well buy 3 Arshavins and ask them to soak up pressure before launching "switch-back". grin
you're not making sense.....
instead of you to bow down to my managerial prowess that a concept i had months
ago is what chelsea are going to, you're busy yarning megedefegede......

there was a reason roman paid £50m for torres......he musta loved what torres did
@ liverpool. to make him play like he did at liverpool, he needs the kinda support
and technical players he had at liverpool. as long as roman sees torres as the arrow-head,
this must be the tactical approach otherwise chelsea's highest goalscorer would always be lampard
or even john terry - and that reduces the market value of torres! roman wouldn't want that!

mbulela: whether 442 or 451 or 433, a weak midfield is still a weak midfield. It is only more exposed in a 442. ours is truly a weak midfield, irrespective of the formation.
our midfield is not weak....it;s the formation that is weak.
i dare you to name a midfield that anderson-fletcher-carrick haven't murdered.
when carlos quieroz was here and he played 3 in the midfield in big games, united
were beating teams even without ronaldo atimes....then he left and fergie slipped
back into his idiocy.....
I know what you're saying but my point is, it still works for him as SAF prefers having more bodies in the box for the wingers. Its only an issue because our central midfield is so weak.
that can also be achieved in a 4-3-3 formation.
look at barcelona when they hand henry, messi and etoo.
chelsea when they had robben, drogba and duff. arsenal with walcott, gervinho and van persie.

I wanted to be a doctor in secondary school, because I was good in biology, chemistry, and mathematics - but things changed... Computers became more popular, and IT jobs became more lucrative.. I had to move with the flow, and I developed an interest in programming.... Got into uni, and I found out programming was too broad, and inconclusive - and new programming languages keep coming into the market... I didn't want the stress of having to learn new languages every 6months..

So, I decided to explore the IT market - to see which aspect was as lucrative as programming... And network security proved to be the most lucrative - even more lucrative than programming...

montelik: United will always be a base 4-4-2 team. This has gone beyond SAF, to being inputted into the DNA of this club. The way our players train, how recruit from the 1st team to the youth team. The same way I will expect Barca to always play a variant of the old dutch total football system for the foreseeable future(thanks to the influence of Johan Cruyff). We will always build from the base of 4-4-2 using wingers/players to provide the penetration or simply to stretch the field. Now we may play other formations for certain games and competition, but the base will always be 4-4-2.

I remember the one time we tried to change our base formation to 4-4-1-1 in 01/02 and blew the league in the process. We had just signed Veron and Ruud. We had a striker who was brilliant at hold up play and played upfront alone perfectly. Also one of the most stacked midfields in Europe with Giggs, Keane, Scholes, Veron, Beckham and even Butt. We started the season playing our base 4-4-2 in the league and 4-4-1-1/4-2-3-1 in Europe. But then SAF decides to start playing 4-4-1-1 in the league as well to help the team transition faster while bringing our European form to the league and then the wheels fell off fast. By December we were stuck at about 8th in the table losing and drawing to sides like West Ham, Bolton, Derby as well as all the big sides. Eventually thanks to the UCL break SAF switched back to 4-4-2. With Ole playing with Ruud and we got our form back on track with 8 or 9 successive victories.

We are a 4-4-2 team. It is our way. Now thankfully SAF has found a way to make sure our personnel is fluid enough to morph into whatever shape to be effective with out changing our basis 4-4-2. I am sure SAF has probably seen something in Kagawa that tells him he could adapt and contribute in a 4-4-2 if needed. Tom Cleverley made the most waves on loan playing in the hole for Watford. Many thought he couldn't play in a 4 man midfield. Yet he showed he could at Wigan and the few appearances he made here. Same was said of Scholes, even Carrick had question marks do to his laid back style and where he played for Spurs, but it worked. Just look at all our players. Almost every single one can play at the very least one other position proficiently. Park flourished mostly as a wwide froward for PSV, yet he played wing effectively for United. I am sure the coaching staff have the feeling is Kagawa can contribute, outside the position he mostly played for Dortmund.

Lastly, in my opinion we don't need to change from our base 4-4-2. We just need to bring the sort of players who can adapt and fit to what we do. Why change tactics that has long been our tradition. We can always play 4-3-3 or whatever when the need arises, but our base should remain 4-4-2 for now. Look how we started last season with 4-4-2 but with a front 6 six that worked hard and could immediately press high up the pitch incessantly.
the problems of 4-4-2 are quite vast...
apart from being a very vulnerable formation, it takes a toll on our players because of
the emphasis on the midfield 2 to defend and support the attack.

arsenal seem to have banish the hoodoo of injury hanging over their heads since switching
to 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. city barely lost anyone to injury playing 4-2-3-1, chelsea posted a
cleaner bill of health playing 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 but united kept having players pop their hamstrings
with this idiotic formation.

the moment your opponents put a 3-man midfield against the 2-man midfield of 4-4-2, they would
take control of the midfield. a lot depends on rooney who must track back and help his 2-man
midfield but at the same time we rely too much on the same rooney to provide the goals. personally,
i think united need to scrap 4-4-2. it's old, obsolete and has been dumped by all the big clubs in europe.

Ibime: So he bought Hazard, Marin and Mata to "defend on the halfway line whilst waiting for opportunity to put Torres clear through"?
yes....it's called counter-attacking.
united murdered mourinho in 06/07 using exactly that with rooney/ronaldo.
benitez's liverpool were only 4 points short of united in 08/09 with the same tactics

I hope the defensively weak Mata, Hazard and Marin will not concede three goals whilst waiting for such opportunity to materialise. grin
as long as you have 6 outfield players who are defensively minded, it does not matter what
the front four do. the key is having 2 deep-lying midfielders in mikel and lampard to screen the defence.
benitez used xabi alonso and javier mascherano and the front four was torres, gerrard, kuyt and riera/maxi.

Emenalo should continue plotting the graph (c) FBS, all I know is that Hazard, Mata, Marin and such are gonna play their footie in the opposition half, not "switchback" grin
there's no guarantee marin would even be starting.....hulk's deal is imminent
and you cannot say ramirez shies away from throwing tackles. it's the only way
chelsea can go if torres is going to be the arrow-head. fernando can only score
that way......just like michael owen!
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by coogar: 2:30pm On May 30, 2012
Ibime: It will be a huge cultural change, especially for some of the players who came to rely on the ball sticking to Drogba in times of trouble.

The talk at the training ground is of ‘switch back’, a tactical trap that will be set next season for opposition defences.

They intend to draw the opposition away from their own penalty area, pushing up towards the halfway line before Hazard, Juan Mata or former Werder Bremen winger Marko Marin releases Torres for a one-on-one through on goal.

It is a system that will be borrowed from Liverpool after a study of Torres’s goals revealed that 56 of his 81 strikes for the club were scored in similar circumstances.

Na "switch back" wey Emenalo dey use deceive Oyinbo people? grin grin

Igbo man want yahoo Abramovic with monkey post moves. grin

So Chelsea's whole raison d'etre from now on will be a limited narrow approach which limits tactical options and never won any trophy for Liverpool.

I thought a sensible director should be looking at succeeeding from all angles, not shoehorning Chelsea into untried, untested and narrow one-dimensional style of play called "Switchback".

I hope SWITCHBACK will not become as infamous as SHEKPE KEEPING!!! cheesy
that's what i have been clamouring for 12 months now.
the aim is to bring out the best of torres....if you spend £50m on a striker, common
