How We Rigged Fayose Into Office – Ekiti PDP Secretary Secretary of the Ekiti state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Temitope Aluko on Sunday opened a can of worms as he gave an insider account of how the military was used to rig the 2014 Ekiti State governor election that Ayo Fayose won under PDP. Aluko, who was the Chief Returning Officer and signed the results for the election, also disclosed how former President Goodluck Jonathan, gave Fayose $37 million cash to prosecute the governorship election. The embattled Secretary of the Ekiti state chapter of PDP, made the disclosure in Abuja, stressed that he was forced to come forward with the revelations because Fayose betrayed him and derailed from the original plan they had for the development of the state. Aluko had also testified in camera before the military panel that investigated the role of the military in the Ekiti election. According to Aluko, who said he was part Fayose’s inner cycle during the election, alleged that Jonathan initially gave the incumbent Ekiti governor a first tranche of $2 million in March 2014 for the primary election. He noted that this cash was collected at the NNPC headquarters in Abuja and was taken to Fayose’s private house, in Abuja before it was moved to Ekiti. “Immediately after the primary election, we collected. another $35 million from Jonathan on June 17, 2014. The money was brought to us by the former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro. “We all assembled at the front office of Spotless Hotel, Ado Ekiti, owned by Fayose. Thereafter, the cash was taken to a Bureau De Change in Onitsha where it was converted to N4.7 billion”, Aluko added. Aluko, further alleged that Fayose received about N3 billion cash from Sen. Buruji Kashamu in 2013 for revive the PDP in Ekiti State. The Ekiti PDP scribe, also gave account on how the military was used to win the election. Aluko said “the former President agreed with Fayose and summoned a security meeting at the Presidential Villa for the purpose of the election. “Those at the meeting were the former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh; then Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen. Kenneth Minimmah; and former National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu. “Others included Fayose, Senator Iyiola Omisore, then Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan and Obanikoro. “At that meeting, the former President made it clear to the ex Chief of Defence Staff that Fayose would stand for him (as Commander-In-Chief) in terms of providing security for the election”. Aluko alleged that Fayose, relying on Jonathan’s directive, approached the former Commander of the Army Brigade in Akure, Brig. Gen. Dikko to take charge of the election for the PDP, who refused to cooperate and was replaced after a petition was filed against him. “But Gen. Dikko did not give us audience. He stated bluntly that he would not be available for such operation. So Fayose sponsored a petition against him which led to his replacement with Brig. Gen. Aliyu Momoh who was amenable to our plans”. Aluko alleged that a total of 64 PDP stalwarts were picked, who had knowledge of their local governors were picked to help with information on opposition members. “They gave detailed information regarding names and locations of opposition members in all the local governments, the various routes, areas of strength and weaknesses of the PDP in the 16 local governments. “Today, most of these 64 hatchet men are members of the Senate, House of Representatives, state House of Assembly, commissioners, local government chairmen, special advisers and the rest”, Aluko said. He continued, “We went into the election with 1040 recognised soldiers and another batch of 400 unrecognised soldiers brought from Enugu by Sen. Andy Uba. “In addition, we raised 44 special strike teams brought in Toyota Hilux buses from Abuja and Onistah. We made special stickers for the vehicles that conveyed members of the strike team and black hand bands for each of them. “Each strike team was made up of 10 members headed by a soldier and comprising soldiers, policemen, DSS operatives and Civil Defence corps. They were detailed to attack and arrest prominent APC chieftains in all the local governments. “We set up anchorage, mainly residential houses, in every local government where the strike team members collected their welfare and other allowances. “To encourage the strike team members, we gave them orders to share money and other valuables they could lay their hands on in the houses of APC chieftains they raided. “Then we set up detention camps, mainly in primary schools where most of the APC chieftains were detained. Others were detained in police stations where the DPOs were friendly with us. We let them off after the election was over. “A day to the election, we used the military to block all routes in the local governments and prevented APC chieftains, including former Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi from coming into Ekiti. “So we ensured that no APC chieftain was insight on election. We provided polling agents for the APC in most of the polling units so we had no problem getting them to sign election results in the units. “All these local and foreign observers that described the election free and fair only witnessed the voting exercise on election day without knowing what transpired before the voting”. Explains why he was coming up with the revelations, Aluko said “Before the election, Fayose, Femi Bamishile and I jointly swore with the Holy Bible on a sharing formula after we must have won the election. We agreed that Fayose would be governor, Bamishile his deputy and I Chief of Staff. “But the moment he got into office, Fayose reneged on the agreement and left me in the lurch. More worrisome is the fact that Fayose has derailed from the original Ekiti project we envisaged”. |
#MYONEKOBO *I am stunned that Pa Olu Falae, Rasheed Ladoja et al through their political Parties got 100m each from the funds that was meant to arm our Armed Forces, how sad. But my joy is that not one of my Yoruba brothers has risen in defense of the duo, my Igbo and Hausa kindred should take a cue. We MUST unite and aggregate new moral margins for our Country. *I am not troubled by the deafening decibel of partisans, I am thankful to God for giving us this moment, what we make of it is a collective, we either choose to right the wrongs, or to defend a sorry past by throwing partisan, regional, and or religious jibes. I have chosen to side with building a Nigeria where greed and graft is shamed and punished. What of you? *Country First is not idealism but a raging reality that congregates a people at the parlour of patriotism. It takes the Estate to the level where public good is summum bonum. And puts service to all before self. Country First is responsible and responsive leadership defined. To PMB may it always be COUNTRY FIRST. Gospel According to Saint Fayose By Lere Olayinka As a student of a missionary school, Roman Catholic Primary School to be precise, I learnt early enough the story of Paul Apostle . Saul, who later became Paul, was born around the same time as Christ. He was sent to the Jewish school of learning at Jerusalem to study law. After his studies, he returned to Tarsus but soon after the death of Christ he returned to Jerusalem where Christianity was becoming wide-spread. Saul was a key player in the persecution of Christians. However, after his encounter with Jesus Christ, on his way to Damascus to persecute some suspected Christians, Saul became converted and this conversion changed the course of his life. In Ekiti , there is one Saul that is daily struggling to become Paul. In the case of this Saul, he does not need an encounter with Jesus Christ to become a born again because he is not out to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but that of politics. He won’t even become anything close to Paul Apostle because his name was never Saul in the first instance. He was Peter Ayodele Oluwayose , who later said his father; Pastor John Oluwayose erred by replacing Ifa (god of divination) in his name with Oluwa (God). For over three years that Ayodele Fayose was the governor of Ekiti State; he was everything but a democrat. Rule of law, free and fair election, political tolerance and respect for traditional institution was anathema to him. Those of us who dared him then had bitter tales to tell. For instance, just because I was courageous enough to expose his N1.4 billion poultry scam and other atrocities, using a local newspaper, he (Fayose) obtained a warrant of arrest against my good-self and made arrangement with ‘’boys” in the prison to break my legs in detention. I escaped the arrest by whiskers. The arrest warrant saga was confirmed to me by the judge, who signed it. I had gone to the judge to sign a form, when he saw my name and exclaimed; “this world is indeed a small place. I signed your arrest warrant in 2005 but I thank God today because my conscience is clear. I vacated the order a week after without letting Fayose know about it.” The judge is still alive! I was not the only one who tasted Fayose’s bitter pills. Others, including the incumbent governor of Ekiti State , Engr. Segun Oni, Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade (rtd.), Chief Idowu Odeyemi, Senator Bode Olowoporoku, Chief Ojo Falegan, Chief George Femi-Ojo, Taiye Fasuba, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko, Chief Afe Babalola, Chief Kunle Ogunlade, Femi Falana former governors Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Adeniyi Adebayo and Segun Osoba had more mind burgling stories to tell too. Fayose wagged war against anyone he perceived as a threat to his hold on power. Even his own siblings were not left out. Ask Bimpe and Emmanuel, they sure still remember what they went through in the hands of Fayose, their own brother. In Fayose’s days as governor, there was nothing like free and fair election in his electoral dictionary. Elections to him must be won by whatever means possible and that he demonstrated during the 2004 local government elections in the State, May 28, 2005 councillorship bye-election in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ekiti South Federal Constituency II bye- election among others. Interestingly, the local council elections were conducted the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), members of which were appointed by Fayose himself. In the case of the local government elections in Ekiti South West Local Government, which was held on April 3, 2004, Senator Olowoporoku, whose wife, Anike was the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) candidate gave the following account; “By the midnight of 2nd April, 2004 we heard that soldiers had invaded Iyin Ekiti, the home of ex-Governor Adeniyi Adebayo and had put Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State and Ex-Governors Osoba of Ogun State and Niyi Adebayo of Ekiti State under arrest of no movement in and out of the compound in a state of incommunicado. “By about 9.00 a.m, people were ready to go and cast their ballots despite the war songs of the armed forces all over the town throughout the night. Their resolve was to go and vote in spite of the reported heavy presence of soldiers and mobile policemen in the town. Several people were on the queue to vote by 10.30a.m when Mr. Ayo Fayose suddenly emerged in sleeveless shirt and knickers with a terrifying sword and also in convoy of about 80 vehicles. His eyes were red like a monster who has just finished drinking blood. Soldiers and "kill and go" (mobile policemen) in hundreds started shooting into the air, asking everybody to run for their dear lives. People ran away, any presiding officers or agents whether of PDP or AD or ANPP or NCP who attempted to protect the ballot boxes were beaten to state of coma or in a number of extreme cases, they were shot in the legs. “In a rage and something more than madness, the governor Mr. Ayo Fayose was overheard shouting "where is Bode Olowoporoku, I want to kill him, I have immunity for eight years as Governor of Ekiti State.” Olowoporoku’s account was corroborated by the reports in various national dailies on Sunday, April 4, 2004. Sunday Punch captioned it thus; “LG bye-election; Soldiers, mobile policemen invade Ekiti. Govt officials hijack ballot boxes. The News Magazine, in its April 5, 2004 edition captioned Fayose’s reign of terror thus; “The Power Drunk Governor; How Fayose’s men murdered students. His style shocks the nation. But if Fayose’s show of madness on April 2 and 3, 2004 actually shocked the nation as reported by The News Magazine, what he did on May 28, 2005 must have sent the whole country into a coma. Sensing that his preferred candidate was losing the Ifaki Ward II councillorship bye-election, Fayose stormed the town with thugs and mobile policemen and in a twinkling of an eye, Tunde Omojola, an in-law to Hon. Labaika Suleiman, the National Conscience Party (NCP) candidate in the election had been killed. His murder was allegedly supervised by Fayose. Not done with the Ifaki escapade, Fayose moved to Mugbagba, Ado- Ekiti where the Alliance for Democracy (AD) was inaugurating its Ado Local Government Executives. Fayose was personally involved in the smashing of vehicle windscreens and stealing of properties, including raw cash kept in the vehicles. However, funny how times flies, Fayose, after inflicting electoral injuries on the psyche of Ekiti people now mounts the podium, preaching against election rigging. Saint Fayose now goes about preaching rule of law, good governance, free and fair elections. He wants to be seen as a Saul who has giving up his persecution of Christians and turned to Paul. Yesterday, I read in the papers, Fayose, who used to refer to himself as the “master rigger” calling on voters to protect their votes and resist rigging in next year’s elections. In other words, Saint Fayose, who spearheaded the rigging of elections and unprecedented electoral violence when he was governor, now, wants the 2011 election, which he hopes to contest to be free and fair! But he (Fayose) surely needs more than mere press statements. For him to be seen as a Saul who has turned to Paul, Fayose must show penitence. He must visit the families of Tunde Omojola, Dr. Ayo Daramola, nine students of the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti killed during a mere protest, the likes of Aseweje, Ben Ogundana, Dapo Osunniyi, Kamoru Folorunso, Ojo Sunday and several others that were visited with terror during the 2004 local council polls in Ilawe, Ogotun and Igbara-Odo to seek amnesty. Most importantly too, Fayose must go on his bended kneels in front of the entire congregation of the Emmanuel Anglican Cathedral, Okesa, Ado-Ekiti, whose church’s two entrance gates he blocked with sand, gravel and gutter, deliberate dug in front of the church just because Chief Ojo Falegan, his perceived opponent worshipped in the church. Honestly, like Paul Apostle, Fayose can be admitted into the club of sainthood; after all, our Lord is a forgiving God. But he must be ready to show repentance by confessing that he once rigged elections, perpetrated electoral violence and persecuted opposition politicians. Until then, his quest for sainthood, by preaching free and fair elections will remain in the dustbin of morality. Olayinka, a journalist writes from Ado-Ekiti |

The CBN under current Governor Godwin Emefiele in August directed the company to refund monies deducted as professing fees when it discovered that over N8 billion was collected. The letter to the President dated November 6, 2015 and signed by the Managing Director of System Specs, Mr. John Obaro, reads in part: “Your Excellency, we are aware that you must have heard series of reports around the 1% processing fees chargeable on e-Collections of Government receipts. We will like to provide some background on these issues sir. “System Specs was engaged to provide the Payment Gateway for TSA in 2011. While the payment leg of TSA commenced in January 2012, the collection component did not start as scheduled due to the resistance from a number of quarters and the absence of the political will to push this through. “In 2013, CBN and OAGF setup a multi-stakeholder implementation committee and organised a joint seminar with key stakeholders, including banks, to agree formalities for commencement of e-collection. “The Banks proposed a fee of 5% to compensate for the fact that they would no longer keep float. “The implementation committee however recommended 2.5% after negotiation with the banks. “The then AGF later approved 1% as processing fee, which was in turn communicated to all the stakeholders through CBN in December 2013. Subsequently, we executed a contract with CBN and other stakeholders involved on the provision of services to support TSA. “Based on the increased scope of the TSA project, following your directive in August 2015 for all MDAs to join the scheme, we had highlighted the need for a stakeholder meeting to discuss the TSA e-collection fees. This was communicated to both CBN and OAGF. “Instead of an invitation for a stakeholders meeting as requested, we received a directive from the CBN Governor to refund all TSA e- collection fees earned to date and to suspend all charges on the platform. “System Specs has since complied fully with this directive and refunded all monies earned to date to CBN. This we did in good faith and without prejudice to avoid distractions that could becloud the bigger potential of the TSA project for our country. “While we await clarification from OAGF/CBN on the way forward, we have since suspended all TSA e collection fees on the platform. This means that none of the TSA collection parties/channels are earning any fees for providing services to Government. “This position is however not sustainable as the collection partner banks are threatening to suspend FGN TSA collections. This would clearly be playing into the hands of those who do not wish this initiative to succeed. “We understand the strategic importance of the TSA project to this administration and the country at large. We have demonstrated good faith and continued commitment to the project in the last four years to deliver on our mandate. “We will continue to do all within our power to bring the project to full term. “Your Excellency, we would appreciate your kind and urgent intervention to ensure a speedy resolution of this matter before the banks stop collections.” |
