Citizen Fayose : The Comical One

By Ugoji Egbujo

Governor Fayose is truly unrestrained. And once touched the child that bubbles beneath erupts. Our society has degenerated. But defecating in the open has managed to remain repugnant. Statesmanship requires measurable moral continence. But a governor with an inflated id, fixated at the oral stage, will do anything for self gratification. Tantrums should be beneath governors. But not any given to thrill seeking acts of irresponsibility. Impulsivity means consequences are never thought through. Without discretion, a leader of the opposition becomes a mere perpetually howling tout. Such a leader trivializes the role of the opposition, reduces it to noisy rabble rousing. Fayose If Fayose, the crusader , had information of a criminal activity involving the first lady, a strong well publicized petition to the police would have been appropriate. But since a governor cannot be a beer- parlour rumour peddler, a little attempt at an investigation ought to precede such a petition. But with Fayose , nothing has been politically sacrilegious. What he thinks is spontaneity and forthrightness is what many have described as utter whimsicality, gross tempestuousness. An exuberance that pretends to youthfulness to feed an adolescent egocentrism. That is why a casual shirt worn at a budget presentation by a governor may be narcissism and exhibitionism rather than simplicity. Because the air of haughtiness and vanity floating around that affected boyishness leaves no room for sobriety. That is why that pretense at wooing foreign investors at a railway station in china, two months ago, is more sinister than buffoonery. Because Fayose once strenuously, in the company of fellow researchers- cameramen, sought to prove that Buhari was in Transcorp Hilton Abuja rather than the advertised London. So he understands the gravity of such folly. When he, in a fit of exasperation, lapsed into the confession that everyone is a criminal, he seemed virtuous. He manages to contrive an unsophisticatedness that lends his tales apparent credibility. And this time he even seemed righteous. He quoted Jesus. John 8 vs 6-7. Suddenly no one is a criminal because everyone is a criminal. That was the point. But he forgot to take his boldness to the prison gates. To free all the prisoners in Ekiti, whom he must declare victims of warped and selective justice. For a man who frequents roadside bukkas with convoys of cameramen, to serve himself amala , in a pretentious solidarity with the poor, the prison should have been his next logical stop. The exemplary honesty which he sought to exhibit was hopelessly self serving. An honesty that was aimed at exonerating Fayose . He has reached for Zenith bank. The problem never lies with the desperation he is capable of exhibiting but the thoughtlessness of his actions. If Zenith sponsored his election and he feels the bank must be exposed, there are dignified ways of whistleblowing. And that bank should not be spared. But since he has a proclivity for appeal to the baser instincts, he summoned cameramen to capture the moment a poor zenith official was on his knees pleading with a god that doesn’t answer prayers. Fayose had imagined he had zenith bank kneeling before him and the nation captured by his delusions and the pornography of that video recording. He has threatened to let out more filth if provoked. Mafia style. But he hasn’t bothered to answer the pertinent question of the illegality of his acceptance of campaign funds from a publicly quoted company. But he didn’t stop there , Fayose never knows when to stop. He, Fayose thinks candour lies in airing every suspicion. And strength lies in weaponizing rumours. There were pre-election malicious rumours that the APC candidate was afflicted. But it was Fayose , a governor, who took out front pages of major newspapers to prophesy death. To talk about diapers, to defile old age. Filth was thrown around but Fayose it was who took political rhetoric to new lows. He rained the most obscene curses on his opponent . He exhibited remorselessly a reckless disregard for the bounds of civility. That is why he can ask the wife of the president to travel to the US just to prove she isn’t the indicted Aisha Buhari. So until she travels , she remains what Fayose wants her to be . And when she does, Fayose will simply latch onto new absurdities. He might even say –everyone lies once in a while. He was once comfortable with seven members passing bills in 26 member state legislature. Governors, generally, promote illegality when it suits them. But they do not hire thugs to beat up judges. Championship of the rule of law cannot be such a cynical enterprise. Okay, he has denied ever hiring thugs and he must be believed. But just imagine that Buhari the ‘tyrant’ were half as rascally as Fayose the ‘democrat’, the governor would have been impeached by the APC dominated house last year. The thugs that blocked all the major highways leading into Ado not withstanding. But my worry is that Gov Fayose and his ilk have become standard bearers for a political culture in tatters. When Fayose preached the gospel of ‘stomach infrastructure’ many derided him. Ekiti was trusted not to fall for amala politics. When Ekiti succumbed, it was conveniently attributed to rigging. That isn’t to suggest thuggery didn’t affect the outcome. Stunned Lagos panicked and lapsed into demagoguery. Ethical highways were abandoned. Okada riders were recalled. They came back to litter the roads and resume their nuisance. And they came back without headlamps, without number plates, without sense. All the wonderful reasons Fashola had given for destroying thousands of commercial motorbikes were swept away with brooms of cynical self preservation. Edo quickly cancelled plans to continuously assess teachers and sanitize an educational system overrun by weeds. Aregbesola was pictured throwing mobile calling cards off a moving truck to entice voters. The Omoluabi wanted to win his re election very badly. Fayose was the new standard. And in this age of Trumpism , he is a troubling local phenomenon. He touts a popularity founded on the disingenuousness of holding the naive spellbound with theatrical displays of false simplicity and duplicitous empathy. He presents himself as simple, shooting –from- the hips, everyday guy, who fears no foe and worships only God. But he is addicted to vanity. Everywhere for him is a theatre. Since Jonathan surrendered, no one has rendered as much vocal oppositional activity as the governor of Ekiti. And the nation needs a robust and committed opposition. But while an effective opposition leader may not be free from hypocrisy he cannot be given to clownish hyperbolisms. He cannot be seen as a mere jester. He must understand sacredness. He need not be a philosopher but he must be capable of sober reflections. He cannot incite hate because a governor’s restraint must be stronger than that of a barber. When a state governor writes a foreign country to deny his struggling country loans, he will leave many baffled. But opposition sometimes entails compulsive – “we- no-go- gree” and “gra-gra” -obstreperousness . But hearing that governor gnashing his teeth, a month later, was bizarre. For when he told striking workers he could not pay them with his blood, his tales had lost comicality. Fayose is such a bundle of incoherence. Hollow populism. That is the scourge that threatens to overtake our politics.

Politics / Igbo Introduced Tribal Politics, Says Ffk by cornerstone2019: 5:39pm On May 03, 2016
Ndigbo's new ally had this to say awhile back... HOW THE IGBO INTRODUCED TRIBALISM TO NIGERIAN POILITCS. BY Femi Fani-Kayode October 28, 2012 Premium Times. ”
Igbo domination of Nigeria is only a matter of time”- Charles Onyeama, a prominent igbo lawyer and member of the Central Legislative Council, 1945. (Page 204 ”Ethnic Politics In Kenya and Nigeria” by Godfrey Mwakikagile). ”It would appear that the God of Africa has created the Igbo nation to lead the children of Africa from the bondage of ages ….” – Dr Azikiwe, President of the Pan-Igbo Federal Union. (The West African Pilot of July 8, 1949). The first statement from Charles Onyeama, which was made in 1945, was the first overtly tribal and divisive comment that was made and recorded in the politics of southern Nigeria in our history.
That is where and when tribalism in the south actually started. After that comment, and as a direct reaction to it, the Yoruba established the ”Egbe Omo Oduduwa” to further and protect Yoruba interests and after that came the formation of the Action Group in 1948. The second statement from Zik, which was made in 1949 (and which clearly shows that the great Zik of Africa had forgotten that the NCNC was not an Igbo party at the beginning and that it had in fact been established by an upper class and very well educated Yoruba man by the name of Sir Herbert Macaulay, one of the famous ”Black Victorians” from the Lagos Colony, and who, at his death bed, was gracious enough to hand over the leadership of the party to him even though he was Igbo) confirmed that tribalism was here to stay in the south and that ever since that time the Igbo had an agenda to dominate others.
This sentiment and this unfortunate Igbocentric attitude is what cost Zik the premiership of the Western Region in 1953 when the NCNC narrowly lost to the Action Group. It is clear from this that if you want to know who started tribalism in southern politics and the politics of the southern protectorate of Nigeria, it was not the Yoruba or the southern minorities but the Igbo. The excesses of the Igbo State Union and their treatment of the southern minorities and the Yoruba from 1943 till 1967 was completely unacceptable. The rest of the south were prepared to accept the Igbo as equals with open arms but they were not prepared to be politically dominated or conquered by them. Worst still, the first coup in the history of Nigeria, which was the Jan 15th 1966 coup d’etat, led by Major Ifejuana and Major Kaduna Nzeogwu, was essentially an Igbo coup and an Igbo grab for power. I say this because 95 per cent of those that took part in it were Igbo and 99 per cent of the political and military leaders that were brutally murdered during its execution were non-Igbo. It was this coup and its sheer brutality that led to the even more brutal northern officers counter-coup of July 1966 (in which 300 Igbo officers were killed in one night including the Igbo Head of State, Gen. Aguiyi-Ironsi, and his Yoruba host, the Military Governor of the Western Region, Adekunle Fajuyi who sought to protect him), the pogrom of Igbos in the north (in which over 100,000 Igbo civilians were killed in a few weeks) and the Nigerian civil war (in which 2 million Nigerians and Biafrans died). These are the facts of our history. Live and learn.
If you want to know who introduced tribalism into southern politics, it was the Igbo. If you want to know who carried out the first coup in our country, it was the Igbo. Having done the painstaking research over a number of years these are my findings and this is my conclusion. I will open my Facebook wall for a robust discussion and debate on this issue and I will accommodate contributions from even those that are not my Facebook friends just for thism debate. I will accommodate all shades of opinion and contributions from anyone that cares to join in the fray and I want to encourage those that disagree with my findings to state their case. We are all still learning but please take note that any rude or insulting comments will be deleted. This is a historical debate and I would encourage all those that seek to quote anyone or make any assertions to mention their sources so that we can cross check the facts

Politics / Is Saraki Really Been Witchuned!!!! by cornerstone2019: 8:30am On Apr 23, 2016
THE RISE AND GUARANTEED FALL OF BUKOLA SARAKI
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Saraki left the PDP for personal reasons, not because
he wanted CHANGE. This is evident in his behaviour
since APC became victorious. APC trusted Saraki, took
control from Belgore just to please Saraki. APC asked
both Belgore and Lai Mohammed to relinquish the state
leadership to Saraki. While Lai choicelessly agreed,
Belgore left APC saying 'I can never be in the same
party with Saraki talkless of him leading me'. Raji
Fashola spoke and appealed to his bosom friend Belgore
not to leave APC but the latter sought Fashola's
understanding on the fact that Saraki is not a human
being and that APC will regret having Saraki in its fold.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
APC openly celebrated Saraki. Saraki nominated every
single political appointments in Kwara. He took over the
structure of the APC in Kwara. APC narrowly won Kwara
with a little over 100k votes above the PDP. Race for
Senate Leadership began. This slot would have naturally
gone to the SE had Ngige or other experienced APC
senatorial candidate won but APC NASS conflict's
foundation was laid by the rejection of the party in the
SE! Therefore, 3 major lucky contenders were jostling for
the Senate President position. Lawan from NE, Saraki
and Akume from NS all wanted to fill the vacuum
created by the SE.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buhari and APC preferred Lawan from the NE instead of
Tinubu's friend Akume and Atiku's choice Saraki.
Tinubu being a smart man quickly asked his friend
Akume to step down for the Party's and President's
choice Lawan. Akume, another reasonable politician
agreed!
Tinubu is not just a driver, he also knows when to
accelerate and when to step on the brakes!!!
Atiku and Saraki kept on accelerating even when it was
obvious that the duo have approached the zebra
crossing!!! A warrior that knows how to fight that does
not know how to run when necessary will eventually
perish in the battlefield!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saraki and his pushers became arrogant and resolute to
disgrace the APC and the President. All appeals by
leaders of their party did not hold water. Saraki said he
wanted due process, hence, the party organized a
primary election to please him. In the open and
transparent due processed primaries, Saraki lost the
election and instead of staying within his team and
agree with the APC Senators decision, he betrayed the
APC and teamed up with the PDP to steal the hard
earned victory of the APC through the back door. He
wanted SP even if heavens will fall. He eventually stole
it while 95% of his colleagues were away, he joined the
PDP to ridicule CHANGE. He did not stop there, he
made the PDP DSP!!! Ha! What wickedness What a
deadly traitor The party was battling with the
humble pie and sought further reconciliation by asking
Saraki to give other leadership positions left to its
preferred choices, at least to calm nerves and save the
party from national disgrace, but Saraki once again
injured the party and announced his own preferred
choices behaving like 'IGE ADUBI' the one who cares
less whether or not his mother or father died on the day
of his birth!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The intentions of Saraki became very clear to APC. He
wants the APC to fail, disgraced and destroyed for
ambitions that have 2019 written all over it. He had
gone back to his former husband the PDP, a party many
of them left because they said "its a den of corrupt
visionless people".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But the concern of Buhari is different from the APC's.
Buhari wants to eradicate corruption but how can Kwara
Corruption King lead from the senate Number one
priority of Buhari's administration has been ambushed
by thieves from the NASS. Buhari, a soldier and a war
tested veteran will not give up the fight to eradicate
corruption in Nigeria.
His preference for Lawan has nothing to do with politics
but with policies! Saraki obviously has constituted
himself to be a clog in the wheels of CHANGE. He had
become the arrow head of Business as Usual in a
government of CHANGE!
Therefore his book of remembrance was opened. His
judgement became expedient. Since he wanted to be
one of the leaders in the government of Change, he
must be thoroughly searched.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buhari the first leader had been searched, Osinbajo the
second leader had been searched, so why will Saraki the
'third' leader avoid search You cannot eat your cake
and have it!!! And as each day progresses, it is
becoming increasingly clear that this 8th assembly led
by Saraki would be the butt of all jokes. Imagine an
assembly that a bill as important as the money
laundering act from the president is toyed with since
January, while the one involving CCT that is to 'help a
neighbour while his house is burning' scaled second
reading within 48 hrs. What a big shame to the nation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Until a selfless leader emerges as the senate president,
even the one who professes common sense would
continue to be a tiger on twitter and a cat on the floor
of house. We the people must rescue our nation from
the greedy lots who call themselves senators.
# OccupyNassNow is a MUST. # SarakiMustResign is
non-negotiable.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Those who want to hold high positions in Nigeria would
henceforth check themselves very well. You dare not
present yourself if you have skeletons in your cupboard.
This is not a joke! CHANGE has come to Nigeria and he
who must come to equity must come with clean hands!
And that is what we mean by Common Sense
Revolution!"
Let the revolution begin now.
Very right my broda but are d lawmaker ready to cooprate, are thy really doing wat we send them to do Where is PIB. Sincerly we still av a long way to go in dis country. God help Nigeria.
What is cabal? You didn't read their grouse. The govt played into their trap. Lesson: When taking down your adversary, ensure you exploit the law to do so. If you flout lawful processes because you are doing something right, failure awaits you at the end point. Buhari must exploit the law to effect changes, not his will. This same careless behavior was what gave him a bad name during his military stint.[/quote]
