NYSCNYSC: Family Of Late Corps Member, Ifedolapo Oladepo, Cries Out For Justice by corpersforum(op): 5:53pm On Mar 14, 2017
The family of the late corps member, Ifedolapo Oladepo, who died in Kano NYSC orientation camp on November 29, 2016 has cried out for justice, as they accused the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of conspiracy to pervert the cause of justice.

Speaking with DAILY POST on Monday, the father of the deceased, Mr Wale Oladepo, said the preliminary report of an investigative panel, set up by the presidency indicted NYSC of negligence, which ultimately gave credence to the earlier position of the family on the death of Ifedolapo.

Oladepo explained that the lackadaisical approach of the NYSC management at Kano orientation camp towards his daughter at the initial stage of her ailment, coupled with yet to be known injection administered on her later, which made her fair skin to turn black and her tongue twisted was responsible for her untimely death.

He added that the deceased took bit by bit pictures of her condition from the time she started to react to the said injection up till the time she became unconscious, and eventually died at Gwarzo General Hospital at Kano, where they eventually referred her, after nine hours.

According to him, the Nurse who was with Ifedolapo at the General Hospital confessed to one of the family members that there was no facility at the hospital to manage the late corps member, including Oxygen Concentrator to sustain a dying patient.

Oladepo insisted that the preliminary report of Ali Ahmodu, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, published in Punch Newspaper of January 2, 2017, which indicted NYSC for being negligent has been swept under the carpet as a result of conspiracy between the agency and other stakeholders who were involved in the case.

He expressed dismay that even an Ad Hoc Committee constituted by the Osun State Government under the Chairmanship of one Mr Aina, who is the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishment and Human Resources, has remained silent over the issue, and never consulted him ever since.

“I am quite amazed at the conspiracy of silence that followed the death of my daughter by the NYSC and other stakeholders under the pretext of investigation.

” Thanks to Ali Ahmodu, who came up with his preliminary report in Punch Newspaper of January 2, 2017, as the investigative panel he headed indicts NYSC for negligence, based on the facts he gathered in Kano.

“The report has invariably vindicated us, and also shown that the probe panel is independent and not bias in its investigation.

” Ali Ahmodu later sent one ASP Akin Ogundile down to Osogbo, to get all evidences we have, including a recorded conversation, and photographs.

“It is about two months now after Ogundile came to collect these evidences to substantiate their preliminary report and we are still awaiting their final report amid information making the round that top echelon of the NYSC is making frantic efforts to manipulate the report using money to bribe some individuals, including some sections of the media.

” This is a crime against humanity, it is a dangerous move to subvert justice and allow evil doers to go scot free, this should not be allowed to happen in our society.

“I am calling on the President, General Muhammadu Buhari to step in into the matter as he did at the initial stage, and demand for the final report of the investigative panel.

” Sincerely I am naked and my shadow is threatening to leave me as I have not been able to get justice for my late daughter who was killed out of negligence, ” Oladepo resorted.

What do you think?

NYSCCommotion In Delta As Hoodlums Attack NYSC Members And R*aped Two by corpersforum(op): 9:13am On Feb 18, 2017
Some armed hoodlums who operate in Asaba and its environs in Delta State yesterday in the early hours attacked corps members in their private residence behind Mao Mau Hostels, off Ibori Gold Course road, Awai Asaba Quarters.

The hoodlums allegedly r*ped two of the corps members before carting away their valuables including cash of N12, 000.

A neighbour in the compound, Kate Okafor said the armed hoodlums jumped into the premises through the fence and made straight to the corps’ members’ apartment who unsuspectingly were operating their generating set “I beta pass my neighbour” during the period to watch a home movie.

It was gathered that the hoodlum intercepted the free flow of the generator’s power supply and the corps members in their room were and wanted to know what were responsible; unfortunately, one of them, Adachukwu Prosper (surname withheld) who opened the door was at gun point pushed to the ground and in a “Commando like” was ordered into the room where the ransacked their property and allegedly pummeled them.

The two victims, Adachukwu Prosper and Chioma (surname withheld) are graduates of Abia State Polytechnic, posted to Asaba for their youth service.

While the hoodlums’ operation lasted, other occupants of the compound including three other corps members were allegedly subjected to facing the ground at gun point and were also ordered to surrender their belongings, for them, the hoodlums numbering six, took to their heels when they smelt a rat of security agents closing on them.

One of the occupants, Simon (surname withheld) told our reporter that he escaped and invited the police through his GSM phone, adding that it was the first ever attack on them in the compound since he moved to the house over a year ago.
Also, the victims, (Adachukwu and Chioma) said: “we were raped by the hoodlums after they gained entrance to our room when I tried to know what was wrong with our generating set, took away our phones, TV Plasma, and Cash of N12, 000”.

But in swift reaction, the Police Image Maker in the state, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka who confirmed the incident said the report of the incident was officially made know to the police operation safer highway, adding investigation was ongoing with a view to arresting the fleeing armed hoodlums.

NYSCLagos State NYSC Appeals For New Orientation Camp by corpersforum(op): 8:16am On Feb 17, 2017
The Lagos State NYSC Co-ordinator, Prince Mohammed Momoh, has appealed to the state government to expedite action on the construction of a permanent orientation camp on the land allocated to the scheme in Agbowa, Ikorodu.

Prince Momoh made his appeal at the closing ceremony of the 2016 Batch B stream 2 Corps Members Orientation course on Monday February 13th.
“We specially thank His Excellency for the allocation of land at Agbowa for the construction of a permanent orientation camp, befitting the status of Lagos State. It is our fervent hope and prayer that the construction of the orientation camp would be included in the next year’s budget,” he said.

Speaking with Newsmen, the coordinator lamented that limited space at the Iyana Ipaja camp hinders the orientation camp activities for corps members in Lagos state though the state has the highest absorptive capacity for place of primary assignment (PPA) posting in Nigeria.

He disclosed that corps members relocating from other states to Lagos do equate the number originally posted. however, he decried that those redeployed has issues coping with the environment having missed the camp orientation course.

Prince Momoh said “Lagos is the only state in the Southwest without a permanent orientation camp. Yet, Lagos has the highest absorptive capacity in the country for places of primary assignments. If we can get a camp that can accommodate up to 5,000 corps members, more would be posted to Lagos and not have to be redeployed from other states,”.

Momoh added that getting the camp constructed during his tenure would be a great achievement.

In his address the the Batch B Stream 2 Corps Members, Prince Momoh advised them to take their posting “in good faith” and desist from unnecessary travels outside the state.

“Let me strongly advise our dear corps members to obey the rules of NYSC as the scheme will not hesitate to punish erring corps members as spelt out in the NYSC bye-law. It is pertinent to warn you not to play truancy and desist from engaging in acts capable of denting the image of the scheme. Do not embark on unauthorised journeys outside Lagos State as many have met their untimely death through such journeys,” he warned.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr Oluseye Oladejo, also counseled the corps members to give their best wherever they are posted, promising that their efforts would be rewarded.

“I assure you of the warm reception that awaits you wherever you may be posted for your primary assignment. You must strive to put in your best and make positive impact in your various places of primary assignment. Excellent performance will be duly recognised and rewarded at the end of the service year,” he said.

EducationJAMB Will Stop Use Of Scratch Card – Prof. Oloyede by corpersforum(op): 9:20am On Feb 16, 2017
– Allegation against me over pension fraud insincere

The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede, says it is unwise to extend the validity period of UTME results and explains why the 2017/18 UTME registration is being delayed. He said contrary to a claim by ASUU, he was not involved in pension fraud.

You pledged to publish the financial dealings of the board weekly when you became registrar some months ago. We haven’t seen any report yet.

I made that pledge because I thought it was a simple matter. After we made the manuscript of the first edition of the publication, my attention was called to certain things we cannot publish, unlike in the University of Ilorin where I served as Vice Chancellor. We’d expose some of our service providers if we publish names. However, we are thinking of how to go about it. There is a suggestion about using pseudo names but I am not comfortable with that because I believe that if we are to disclose names, we must disclose them properly. We are coming up with a way out.

There was a move by the Senate to extend the validity period of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by three years. What benefit will the extension be to admission seekers?

I believe it is not desirable to extend the validity period of the UTME results and we are going to engage the policy makers to have a reconsideration of that position. The reason given for it was cost but in the long run, that will not reduce cost. You do not extend the validity of a screening examination; what JAMB conducts is called the screening examination.

You do not screen a person for a particular purpose and extend the validity period of the results. It is not a certification examination, it is meant for a purpose. It’s just like somebody writing screening examination for NNPC employment and you say the result should be extended. What certification examination entails is that it is not a one chance exams, you do a continuous assessment over two or three years as the case may be and the exam is not only one sitting, it can be more sittings.

Even when you do the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) apart from the fact that 40 per cent is continuous assessment, 60 per cent that is written is not one examination; you have parts one and two but that is not the case of UTME which is structured as screening examination. In a screening examination, there is no pass or fail; it depends on the availability of space.

May be my predecessor made this known to them but what I found on record is that my predecessor had made it clear that it is undesirable and I think it is not in the interest of this nation because it will make us a laughing stock in the comity of examination bodies because you don’t extend the type of questions we set. Again, when you say it’s for three years, each of the examination is linked with the syllabus the candidates are going to meet at the higher institutions; so, it will create a lot of problems. The Senate will be persuaded by reasons to drop that type of extension.

The board was said to have adopted what it called ‘flexible cut off marks’ for candidates looking for admission in different institutions. What does that exactly mean?

What that means is that we want to expand access of qualified persons and as I said, what makes candidates qualified for admission is their O’ Level and A’ Level exam results as the case may be. The exam conducted by JAMB is just to screen and bring some order on how many candidates will get admissions because we can’t admit all of them.

If that is the case, we are removing obstacles in access, for example people want to go to colleges of education to obtain NCE which is not a degree programme or they want to go to polytechnics for a two-year Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and then you insist on the same condition for those who want to do degree programmes, that is unfair. Even when they graduate, they won’t be on the same salary; OND is level 6, NCE is level 7 and degree is minimum of level 8, so, why are you giving them the same condition?

What we have done is to make it flexible for a college of education, a university and a polytechnic to say ‘look, considering the number of candidates that applied, I am prepared to take 130 or 140 marks and above’. And when you look at that, it will be across board rather than having vacant classrooms. They must have taken all those that are qualified. And if there are still vacancies, you say, go down below the cut off mark for those who have the requisite O’ Level or A’ level, but the only problem is that they did not score the required cut off marks instead of leaving the classrooms empty or for the candidates to be roaming the streets and becoming social problems.

We will be helping the country if we allow such qualified candidates to get admissions. In any case, if you look at it critically, if they are not allowed to go to the university, it is because of the poverty of their parents not the poverty of their brain. If their parents had money, they could send them to Ghana and in Ghana, they will not ask them for UTME results, they will ask for only their O’level result. Those who had more money can send their children to the UK and they will only ask for their O’level results.

There seems to be inconsistency in admission processes because both JAMB and the higher institutions are constitutionally empowered to admit students. Why?

In Nigeria, more often than not, we pursue the shadow and leave the substance and for me, both JAMB and the institutions offer admission to students. They complement each other because there is no institution established by law where it is not said the Senate or academic board of that institution will be responsible for admission by law. And the same law gave JAMB the coordinating power of admission. I believe there is no contradiction, it is when people want to ‘flex muscle’ they begin to say this is your territory. For me, as far as JAMB is concerned, we are at the service of the institutions, to work together on admission. I am not interested in drawing the line.

What we are supposed to do is to supplement and coordinate so that there will be no double admission, there will be equity and justice. We are like a referee; we do not admit anybody, unless he or she has been recommended by his institution. So, if somebody says it is the institutions, he is right and if he says it is JAMB, he is also right because no institution will admit a person without the endorsement of JAMB and that is why I said we both admit and there is no quarrel about that. My colleagues, who are the heads of higher institutions, have been cooperating with me to make sure there is no conflict.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) recently accused you of pension fraud while you were serving as the VC of the University of Ilorin. What is your reaction?

I want to believe this is part of our problems; we have the problem of institutional memory that any media house could publish such a thing. They could have gone behind to do an investigation. Since the contributory pension Act of 2004 started, has any institution of government been the one paying to PFA or anybody? It has never happened, the law is so clear, I can give you circulars.

It is deducted at the source by the accountant general’s office since 2004. So if a group of uninformed persons, three or four of them, made such allegation that when Oloyede was there, he took the money and did not remit it to PenCom, don’t you know that is not true?

Ab initio, it was a false allegation; it is not the work of the VC to deduct the money, it is deducted at source. But a responsible VC is mandated to reflect totally what has been deducted from source and that is exactly what I did during my tenure. I believe that those who made the allegation knew they were making a false allegation. I believe that any reasonable person will not give value to that because what they were saying is that I deducted money and I did not remit.

Number one, I was not the one deducting money; it was the federal government that was deducting at source. Number two, the issue of not remitting does not arise. Then they said I was over deducting; Am I the one or the law? The issue is that people are not critical of what comes to them, to be able to decipher what is right from what is wrong. I felt very hurt when I read the allegations by the media that did not interview PenCom or go to PenCom website to see whether what I was accused of deducting - 27.5 per cent of consolidation not just basic salary, was what the federal government asked me to do.

When will the board start selling the 2017/18 UTME forms?

Very soon! We are changing the major trust of the sale which is the scratch card. Candidates used to buy scratch cards to access the forms online and that has been abused thoroughly. What we want to do is for students to pay directly to government coffers and we are working out the process of doing so to avoid the type of abuse that it has been subjected to. So, we want to sell directly and to make sure that candidates pay into TSA account. We have cases of students saying their scratch cards got burnt, others saying their scratch cards were swallowed by snakes or lost in an accident. I believe my predecessor did his best. Shortly before I came, he dismissed 12 staff on issues relating to the sale of scratch cards or e-facility cards as we called it. I need to build on it by cancelling the whole process. Another reason is that we do not want our students to suffer as a result of clash in timetable. Students have to take NECO, WAEC and NABTEB exams. That is why we held meetings with examination bodies and agreed to realign our timetable. There is no time yet for the sale of forms.

Fraudsters thought we are going to sell scratch cards and they have started selling fake forms and we are now arresting them. We have to thank the security agencies, particularly the NSCDC. Between August last year and now, not less than four people have been convicted by courts and have been sentenced either as students or as fake business men. So that is the kind of signal we want to send.

SportsBayern, Arsenal Light Up Allianz Arena In Round Of 16 First Leg by corpersforum(op): 1:45am On Feb 15, 2017
Bayern Munich and Arsenal will meet in their big-name UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg this evening, both hoping European success will help lift mid-season gloom on their domestic fronts.

Bayern are on track for a record-extending fifth consecutive title with a seven-point lead thanks to their 2-0 win over Ingolstadt on Saturday.

But that result does not tell the whole story, with the German champions looking lacklustre for most of the match before snatching two goals in the final minutes.

The Bavarians have been more a model of efficiency under coach Carlo Ancelotti than the high-scoring, high-speed train of past seasons under predecessor Pep Guardiola.

With fans grumbling about the lack of spark, Ancelotti said that Saturday’s win gave them the boost needed to take on Arsenal.

“This result gives us a lot of confidence for the clash with Arsenal,” Ancelotti said. “We showed great character and that is very important.”

Ancelotti could be without winger Franck Ribery, with the Frenchman working towards a comeback from a thigh muscle injury sustained two weeks ago.

“It will be difficult but we will have to see. We will, however, take no risk with this,” said the coach.

Bayern has posted a record 15 straight home wins in the competition, including three this season. Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal has lost in the last 16 for six years in a row, including to Bayern in 2013 and 2014.

The London side ended a two-game losing run with a 2-0 league win over Hull on Saturday but that did little to lift the mood of their fans, with Wenger non-committal about his future.

Asked about his future, the coach said: “I focus on what is important, winning football games and getting the team to perform. The rest, I cannot influence.”

Chilean Alexis Sanchez scored both goals against Hull but his own future is equally unclear and Wenger knows that a good result in Munich will go a long way in pushing these issues into the background.

“We have had bad experiences against them (Bayern),” said Wenger of their past eliminations, including one back in 2005. “But I feel that this is a good opportunity.”

“We have won there before and we play the first game away from home, so it is important we protect the second game because I feel that to have a chance to qualify in the second leg, that will be very important.

SportsMan City’s Jesus Suffers Broken Metatarsal by corpersforum(op): 1:37am On Feb 15, 2017
Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus broke a metatarsal in Monday’s 2-0 Premier League win at Bournemouth.

The 19-year-old was taken off in the 15th minute at Vitality Stadium after appearing to pick up the foot injury.

City said in a statement: “He will undergo further examinations in the coming days to establish the extent of his layoff.”

The Brazil international, who completed a £27m from Palmeiras in January, has played five times for City.

Jesus was hoping to become the third City player to find the net on each of his first three Premier League starts, having scored at West Ham and two against Swansea.

The other two players to have achieved that feat are former striker Emmanuel Adebayor and current midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.

Metatarsals are the five long bones in the forefoot which connect the ankle bones to those of the toes.

The first is linked to the big toe and the fifth, on the outer foot, links to the little toe.

Together, the five metatarsals act as a unit to help share the load of the body, and they move position to cope with uneven ground.

Injuries usually occur as a result of a direct blow to the foot, a twisting injury or over-use.

Medical experts recommend rest with no exercise and sport for four to eight weeks.

The patient might be asked to wear walking boots or stiff-soled shoes to protect the injury while it heals.

If the cause is over-use, then treatment can vary hugely. Training habits, equipment used and athletic technique should all be investigated.

It all depends on the damage and which metatarsal bone is involved. It is impossible to put a timescale on recovery from a stress injury.

With an impact fracture, after the plaster and protective boot is not needed (usually after four to six weeks), it will be a case of exercise and increasing weight-bearing activities.

Ice packs, strapping and even the use of oxygen tents can be used to assist recovery.

Full return to action can be anything from another four weeks and upwards – depending on the extent of initial damage. Young bones heal quicker.

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, says 1.7 million candidates are expected to sit for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Oloyede made the disclosure while fielding questions from journalists at the Information and Communication Technology Retreat organised for stakeholders on Tuesday in Abeokuta, Ogun.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the retreat was attended by civil society groups, students and other stakeholders in the education sector.

The registrar said the board was also planning to increase its Computer Based Testing (CBT) Centres in order to make the examination exercise seamless.

“We are expecting 1.7 million candidates to sit for JAMB this year and we want to make sure we satisfy them within a week or thereabout,’’ he said.

NAN reports that 1,561,443 candidates sat for the UTME in 2016.

Oloyede said although he could not guarantee a hitch-free examination, the innovations being put in place “will send some illegal operators, who are defrauding candidates in the past, out of business.’’

He said the board would not be deterred in its mission to serve its candidates better this year.

“Frankly, I cannot promise a hitch-free examination because we are testing certain things.

“We are changing certain things; we want to question the statuesquo and we expect a fight back by interests that will be trampled upon,’’ the registrar said.

He explained that the board would be as sincere as possible.

“We are going to be as flexible as humanly possible; we are not promising hitch free examination,’’ he said.

Oloyede also said that JAMB would soon begin the sale of forms for the 2017 UTME, adding that the board was also working on the possibility of conducting a mock examination

EducationJAMB To Begin Sale Of 2017 UTME Form by corpersforum(op): 12:30am On Feb 15, 2017
The Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Tuesday hinted that the body would soon commence the sale of the application form for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME).
.
Oloyede said an estimated 1.7 million candidates are expected register and sit for the Computer Based Test (CBT) across the country, adding that they are also increasing the capacity of the CBT centres to maximise their effectiveness to examine more candidates within a given date.

The Chief Executive Officer of JAMB made this known at the Green Legacy, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, while fielding questions from journalists shortly after a meeting of the JAMB officials and other stakeholders regarding the new Information Technology being introduced into the system to make it less stressful to candidates.

According to him, the body is working with the possibility of conducting a “mock examination” not only to test its preparedness with the new technology, but also to examine some people that are desirous of knowing their competence with the JAMB examination.

He noted that stakeholders meeting was predicated on the need for people to make inputs into the new ICT facilities and critique it before putting them into use.

Oloyede said Nigeria is ripe for an ICT – driven examinations, disclosing that the innovation would definitely unsettle some people, who hitherto were short-changing JAMB through “fraud” and in some cases, duplication of PIN.

“What we are doing appears to be suitable to majority of our stakeholders. It is a surprise to us that we are apprehensive of what we wanted to do that maybe we are going to create problem. We are more confident to go along with the sale of the form for 2017 UTME examination.

“I believed that Nigeria is ripe for this. Nigeria is more advanced than some of these countries. At least, we have three or four countries that are observing our examination and they want to go the way of the conduct of the examination.

“We are expecting 1.7 million candidates and we want to make sure we satisfy these candidates within a week or there about. That is why we are increasing the capacity of the Computer Based Test centres to be able to examine more candidates within a given date

“If we are talking about 1.5 million candidates, it means that in a given day about 60,000 or 70,000 candidates will take the examination.

“We have invited stakeholders to critique the process because we don’t want to go in the wrong direction. We are creating some ICT facilities and we want our stakeholders, prospective candidates, respected scholars, institutions, civil societies to come together and critique what we are doing, so that we can be sure, before we go too far in a wrong direction.

“This is with a view of harvesting good ideas that could improve what we are doing. We thought we are coming here to get dismantled, all we have put together, but what we are having are cheers that we can do it this way, or amend it that way.

“I must be frank with you, I cannot promise hitch free examination because we are testing certain things. We are changing certain things. We want to question the status quo and of course, we expect a fight back by interest that will be trampled upon.

“We are going to be as sincere as possible in the direction we are going. We are going to be as flexible as humanly possible. We are not promising hitch free examination.

“We envisaged that there will be hitches here and there, but they will not be insurmountable. Rather than promising the nation hitch free examination, we will be promising a direction we will all be pleased with.

“Initially there might be hiccups and of course one would not have been appointed if it is routine. I believe that I have been given a very difficult job and that is why I’m promising that it will be all smooth,” Oloyede said.

Business8 Things Exceptional Bosses Constantly Tell Their Employees by corpersforum(op): 7:27pm On Feb 07, 2017
Whether you're managing an intern or running an entire business, your employees' success (and your own skin) depends on your leadership.

Thankfully, the solution for motivating your team and squashing any issues is right at the tip of your tongue. It all starts with communication -- the skill experts point to as the make-or-break factor for successful leadership.

Here are eight things that exceptional bosses tell their employees daily. Start using these daily (or begin looking for a boss who does), and watch your success skyrocket:

1. "I have total confidence in you."
There's nothing more discouraging than a boss who doesn't believe in a person's abilities and tries to micromanage them at every turn. Even ultra-confident individuals will see their self-belief plummet if they're treated like a white-collar toddler.

As President Theodore Roosevelt said, "The best leader is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it."

It might be tough to let go of the reins at first, but if you give your team opportunities to rise to the occasion, you'll find a happier and more motivated office environment.

2. "This is what I want us to accomplish..."
CEO and president of Lockheed Martin Marillyn Hewson found this to be the biggest key to success in her career: "Great leaders motivate and inspire people with why they're doing it," she says. "That's purpose. And that's the key to achieving something truly transformational."

What separates exceptional leaders from mediocre bosses is their ability to communicate their plans and tie the daily drudgery into big-picture goals. Charting a clear course for your team fosters a sense of job stability and drive at work -- so always take the time to explain "why" instead of merely doling out orders.

3. "What can we do better next time?"
As Arianna Huffington sagely suggests, mistakes are the best teachers. "We need to accept that we won't always make the right decisions, that we'll screw up royally sometimes," she says. "Understanding that failure is not the opposite of success, it's part of success."

Every person on planet Earth has messed up at his or her job at least once (even me...well, maybe more than once). Mistakes happen, especially when you're trying something new.

As long as it's not a reckless or careless mistake, turn that error into a learning experience. Teaching someone what to do next time to avoid a blunder is much more productive than reprimanding them.

4. "I want to play to your strengths."
Warren Bennis, a renowned author and scholar on leadership, found that "Too many companies believe people are interchangeable. Truly gifted people never are. They have unique talents." He says, "Such people cannot be forced into roles they are not suited for, nor should they be. Effective leaders allow great people to do the work they were born to do."

Every person on your team has special skills -- that's why I embrace uniqueness at my company, and you should, too. This speaks to the idea of treating people as individuals in a world where employees are too often seen as expendable. Looking for greatness in everyone we work with can only lead to great things.

5. "What is your opinion?"
Top-notch bosses don't let ego get in the way of innovation -- they seek advice from everyone, regardless of where they are on the totem pole.

Asking your employees what they think is another great way to show that you have faith in them and value their input. Plus, I've found that the best insights come from the most unexpected places.

6. "How can I better support you?"
An excellent way of reducing employee turnover is a preventative approach. Take the time to check in with your team. Ask them what's on their plate and what you can do to help them succeed.

As Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook, says, "Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence."

If you serve and enable your team, they'll want to do the same for you and your company, too.

7. "Let me know if you have any questions."
Many people have had at least one intimidating boss whom they didn't feel like they could go to for help. Having an open door policy shows that you're available to your team and care about open communication and their productivity. The faster their questions are answered, the faster they can get back to accomplishing the task at hand.

8. "Good work."
Giving recognition is a lot cheaper than installing Ping-Pong tables or nap pods, and much more effective. No matter how much employees are paid and how cushy their perks are, they'll want to know that someone cares about their work. So take a few minutes to invest in well-deserved praise -- your team will always appreciate it.
SportsFun And Interesting Facts About Soccer You Just Can't Miss by corpersforum(op): 10:30pm On Feb 06, 2017
Soccer is the most widely played and followed game on planet Earth. It is something like a religion for millions from all across the globe.

Pelé said...
Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.

In reality, the name soccer is a corrupt form of the original term 'association of football', abbreviated as 'assoc', and is the most recognized sport in the world today. Played in almost every country and unequivocally loved, soccer is rather worshiped like a religion, with its star players treated like Gods. Nevertheless, there is a lot about soccer that even the most avid fans are unaware of. Which is why, this article brings forth some of the coolest facts about soccer which everyone, not only soccer fans, would love knowing.

Origins of Soccer
The Romans played a game named 'harpastum', which can be said to be the ancestor of the modern game of soccer. In the early days of the game, referees used to wave a handkerchief to control the players and the game, and whistles were introduced in the game only in the year 1878.

Undoubtedly, the sport is most popular in Europe and South America. However, its origins can be traced to China, more than 2,200 years ago. This was around the time of the Han Dynasty, around 200 BC. Some versions even talk about a ball that was first used which was the head of a Dutch brigand. It is also believed that in medieval times, kicking, punching, biting, and gouging was allowed during the game.

In 14th century England, the game was banned by King Edward III for being too violent and also excess military indulgence, but ironically, the first ever soccer match was played in Derby, in England itself. It is also believed that the game developed at the Newgate Prison in London, in the early 1800s, where those prisoners whose hands were cut off for crimes like robbery, came up with a game that could be played by the feet.

The game supposedly came to the United States in the 1850s through New Orleans. it is believed that Scottish, Irish, and German immigrants brought the game here with them. Soccer became an Olympic sport in the year 1908.

The popularity of soccer spread rapidly during the 1800s, as British sailors, traders, and soldiers took the game with them and introduced it to different corners of the world where they traveled. In fact, FIFA recognizes that no historical connection exists with any game that was played in antiquity outside Europe.

Career5 Money Habits That Separate The Rich From The Poor (most May Surprise You) by corpersforum(op): 8:41pm On Feb 04, 2017
A lot of people assume that the rich live in mansions, take lavish vacations, and dine in fancy restaurants every night. Nothing could be further from the truth. A small percentage of the well-to-do may live that way, but as Thomas Stanley and William Danko pointed out in the best-selling Millionaire Next Door, most of the people in the nation's highest tax brackets live modestly and look no different from the less affluent.

Below are five money habits that separate the rich from the poor, and most may surprise you.

1. They live beneath their means.
They own moderately priced used cars and drive them until they're on a first-name basis with their mechanic. They live in modest homes in average, middle-class neighborhoods. They clip coupons. They cook and eat at home. They buy their clothes off the rack and on sale. They drink beer rather than champagne. Most importantly, they don't spend more than they earn--they live well below their means and invest the surplus in things that are important to them and will provide for their long-term well-being.

2. They don't try to keep up with the Jones'.
They don't try to impress anyone. They don't belong to exclusive clubs or host lavish parties. If they belong to a social or sports club, it's usually to network or further their business interests. When they engage in such activities, they usually get a return on their investment. They understand that lifestyle creep--buying a more impressive home, driving a pricier car, or wearing fancier clothes--is a danger to their pocketbook.

3. They work for themselves.
The rich tend to be entrepreneurs in boring but stable industries. They understand that it's difficult to increase their own fortunes if they spend their days working to pad someone else's bank account. They know that when you own your own business and can supply a product or service for which there's a steady need, you will likely do well and never want for an income.

4. They don't provide financial life support to others.
They worked hard to earn their money--they didn't inherit it or win it in the lottery--and because it wasn't handed to them they believe that it shouldn't simply be handed to others. When family or friends ask for a loan, they may say yes but there will likely be conditions and it will likely be for something that empowers the recipient (i.e., money for education or a business venture).

5. They make sure their money works as hard as they do.
They save religiously. They invest in their retirement (and non-retirement accounts) without fail. They educate themselves about their money by tracking how much is coming in, how much is going out, and how to get the best return on their money.

Ultimately, the rich achieve that status not through their earnings but through their day-to-day habits--habits all of us can try to emulate.

Career5 Signs A New Employee Won't Make It In Your Company by corpersforum(op): 1:01am On Jan 29, 2017
Why do most people fail in a new job? It's not for lack of experience.

People often assume when a new hire doesn't work out that the person couldn't do the job, i.e., didn't have the right skill set. But, in my experience, it usually has to do with the person's personality and approach to the job. If you don't fit the culture of the company, it makes it harder for the employees who do fit to work with you. They don't appreciate having to work with someone they don't trust and respect. This leads to teamwork productivity issues that then lead to performance issues. Eventually, the manager has to decide which employee is hurting the connectivity of the team. The weakest link goes. Given that new people are often brought into an existing team who are working well together, you can see why it becomes important to decide quickly if this new employee is capable of meshing with the group. If not, there's no point in forcing everyone to work with her or him. It's smarter to cut the person loose and look for a better fit.

These five attitudes are the warning signs the new hire won't last.

[s]The following behaviors displayed by a new hire are red flags.[/s]

1) "I can do it all." When new hires jump in and claim to be the Jack- or Jill-of-all-trades, they send the message they think they are better than the rest of the team. Yes, confidence is important, but a person who claims to be able to do it all comes across like a snake oil salesman. It's better for employees to know their particular expertise and stick to it. Remember, everyone on the team has a specialty. In the first 90 days, new hires should spend time figuring out what each person brings to the team so they can leverage their strengths and offer theirs up to help the team succeed.

2) "You need to work around my needs." New hires that vocalize constraints around what they can do and when they can do it are immediately labeled "high maintenance" by peers. When new hires give a list of requirements before they'll do the job, they create more work for others. New hires should be focused on learning ways their work can make teammates' jobs easier. The more value someone provides to the team, the sooner he or she is viewed as a vital contributor.

3) "I only talk to people who matter." New hires that only seem to get excited when talking to people they think have "influence" in the company aren't team players. They're opportunists. When new hires don't show any interest in getting to know the receptionist or someone in a different department, they don't see the value in respecting the contributions of every team member. New hires should be focused on making friends with everyone they meet in the company, because you just never know whom you'll need to tap in the organization for help.

4) "I'm always looking for the next big thing." New hires who are already talking about getting promoted and taking a bigger role showcase narcissistic tendencies. The all-about-me approach to their career implies they will do anything to achieve their goal and walk over anyone who gets in their way. New hires should be focused on getting proficient at their new job with the intent to exceed expectations. Doing a job consistently well is the best way to earn the trust and respect that can lead to a future promotion.

5) "I can do the job, but don't expect me to overextend myself." New hires who only put in the minimum effort show a lack of commitment to building a mutually beneficial partnership with the employer. All new relationships require some extra effort to help form a good partnership. When new hires don't seem to care about whether the employer is feeling satisfied with their early performance, you can only expect their commitment to the job to decrease. They also can't be relied on in times when extra help is suddenly needed to get the job done. New hires should be focused on not just meeting the expectations of the employer but also finding ways to exceed it. This doesn't mean spending extra time at the office, but rather finding ways to improve their productivity so they have extra time and energy to put toward going above and beyond what is expected.

If you recruit employees, be sure to monitor new hires carefully for the warning signs above, and cut your losses sooner rather than later. And, if you are a new employee, be proactive and get help managing your onboarding experience so you can make sure you do well in the first 90 days. Otherwise, you could be looking for another job sooner than you had planned.
