Nonexisting: Majority of the people that defended Buhari's impunity were Yorubas and they did not do it because they loved Buhari or liked his policies. They did solely out of hypocrisy and for selfishness that he will hand over power to them. No need beating around the bush over this. True, but some of them are also northerners. And you gave the reason why the Yorubas who supported Buhari did what they did. But I'm talking about people who supported Buhari because they were blind to his faults. Not the lying fools who knew what they were doing. |

Badmashiii: Well said. Likewise the north would have rejected a person like buhari to rule over them. To be honest, I don't really know about the north. They still have a sizeable christian population, and the Muslims will need to make a statement. Take El rufai and Kaduna for example. They can elect a Buhari in order to make a statement. |
Politics › Re: Tinubu Heads For France From London by CorrectionFLuid: 8:43am On Oct 12, 2024 |
nairalanda1: Nigeria is the way it is, because people think that the world owes them a living.
For example, we want good light, good water, cheap food, cheap petrol, good railways, good roads, schools and unis that look like those in saner climes, and we want all that on a budget of less than 20 billion dollars us....where some of the saner climes spend 50 billion for health care alone.
70% of the country does not pay tax, 40% of the country does not pay for power bills and the rest mostly underpay, and petrol subsidy would need to eat two thirds of our budget if we had to pay for fuel at N100 per liter
And you think the same issues won't follow us into our new countries?
Developed countries made hard choices to get to where they are. People like you who drink the koolaid served by politicians, and then come out to blow grammar are also part of the problem. Don't get me wrong, I know you mean well. But those countries that tax a lot, and make their citizens pay the real price for most things, do those countries governments own and manage the oil in their countries? The natural resources, the gold mines, the limestones etc. is it not entirely private? The primary source of income of those countries you love to measure Nigeria and Nigerians with, is tax. The primary source of income for our government is oil, and other natural resources. Compare us with governments that are like that too. Governments like the UAE, Qatar, Saudi etc. Don't compare Nigerians with people whose governments bend over backwards to see that they have jobs, and have taken their hands off the oil and other resources. If the Nigerian government manages the oil products well, reduce corruption, their will be enough to go round, and then someday they can take their hands off oil, and you can have the liberty to compare your country with those who seem to know what they are doing. |

NairalandForumo: Just look at someone some people from his region are still defending like they have done Nigeria a very good thing, I'm still dealing with some of them this morning on Nairaland and you wonder why Nigeria is the way it...
This is one major reason I want Nigeria to divide into different countries, our ideologies are not the same It's not really about ideology. The fact is nobody likes this country, and nobody is invested in it's progress. Those people from that region you talked about, they won't vote a Bola Ahmed Tinubu if they had a country of their own. But nobody loves Nigeria. So it becomes a game of who wins and who doesn't. It's not totally a matter of ideology. It's a game of superiority, to make a statement, tribal and/or religious, at the cost of the country. |

Slight reversal of floating policy will strengthen naira to an extent
Floating of naira & removal of fuel subsidy is killing the economy That ship has sailed unfortunately. People are now wiser. Reversing the naira floating will make people to buy up dollar and keep. He really didn't think up that policy before implementing on his swearing in. He should focus on petrol pricing. Add petrol subsidy and put men in place to check smuggling. Personally I doubt if smuggling of petrol was such a big deal as it was portrayed before subsidy removal. But still, tightening up our borders will never be a waste of resources. |

This leads them to vote wringly, join touting and all other social vices like this one, but they won't see the harm they have done to their place, they are here all day abusing other states while they keep decimating themselves until their population reduce.
The solution is to keep retraining them, the people who Labour to leave their states to travel to train them in their homes are supposed to be praised, because if not for the good morals those people bring, crime would have consumed the place.

sreamsense: Ipob are even more dangerous terrorists, those ones don't accept repentance. How many times did Soludo appealed for them to surrender and lay their harms for promised offer. Did they listen? Bokoharam and ipob are nearly the same. Bokoharam forbid western education while ipob also forbid western education by keep burning open universities and secondary schools in Biafra land.
Bokoharam and ipob are both banned in Nigeria. Bokoharam kills any tribe and majorly opposing religions while ipob kills igbos with Igbo donation. They both kill human beings they can not create. Bokoharam is religion based while ipob is self-inflicted. Bokoharam leaders are usually bold and die at war while ipob leaders are coward and always prefer to run away from war to enjoy donation money but keep promising their soldiers to wait till Biafra is realized to get their pay. Politics › Re: Blame Gowon Not Aguiyi Ironsi For Nigeria's Loss Of Regional Autonomy –Dele Ogun by CorrectionFLuid: 10:33am On Oct 09, 2024 |
9gerian: Exactly. After the coup, the remnants of the government’s cabinet actually tried to continue especially as the coup had been quashed.
Some accounts have it that Ironsi stopped them, and with the collaboration of Nwafor Orizu transferred power to himself under the guidance of Azikiwe who was in constant communication monitoring the ensuing outcome of events.
In other words, the coup did not destroy regional autonomy. It was Ironsi stepping in as a military head of state, and a few months later promulgating the unification decree 34 of May 1966.
The trajectory could have been different had Ironsi remained a professional soldier, and kept the military out of the whole equation after the coup. Well, he took a chance and risked Nigeria’s fragile democracy and with it its development. Shaa Military coups can only be quashed by the military. If a military coup were to happen today in Nigeria, the military will step in to quash it, and whoever has the highest rank in active service of the military will become head of state to steady the ship during transition, until transfer of power to the civilian administration is complete. He or she has no choice. Nothing like remaining a professional soldier, cos that's part of the profession. It's the politicians in the shadows with their agenda that turned that coup into what it eventually turned out to be. I'm not holding brief for the original coup plotters though, in my opinion, that first coup was unnecessary. The problem was a political one domiciled in the western part of the country, and they had no business meddling in it. |

9gerian: Valid angle except that no older politician took advantage as most participants from various divides were mostly young and inexperienced, which led to very emotional outbursts and decisions without critical analysis. There were o. Ah. Lolz In the east, you have Nnamdi Azikiwe, who nursed the ambition of being the prime minister of a regional Nigeria, or president of a unitary one. His presidency at the time was just ceremonial and he had little powers. In the west, you have Awolowo and his people, who have same ambitions as Azikiwe. In the north, there is the more shadowy and more ruthless northern elders, whose main tool was Murtala Mohammed. Did any of these groups play active role in the first coup? Apparently not. But they all tried to make use of it's resulting events to further their personal political ambitions, consequently turning the once celebrated coup into a nasty 3 year war of hatred. |

Tetrahedron: I am a Yoruba man and still to this day believe that the 1966 coup was necessary to rid the country of corruption and Ironsi did no evil but the evil was perpetuated by those who took over and killed Ironsi You don't really have to say your ethnicity. Anybody with common sense knows that the coup was done to put things in order. Was it necessary? Well relative to the corruption we have today, I think it's not. The masterminds were just young and over zealous. And the older, more experienced and cunning politicians took advantage of the resulting events. |
