I beg to disagree with the portion highlighted in bold type. We definitely need a world-class hospital in Nigeria. Do you know how many patients have to go abroad annually to seek expert medical care, simply because we don't have adequate facilities locally to treat their cases? Don't you see the numerous appeals from sick patients for financial help to go to India, Israel and other countries, for surgery and other forms of medical treatment? The basic problem with this Ibom Specialist Hospital has been the nonchalance of govt and the management. If this hospital were sited in a place like Lagos, it probably would have been managed better.

There are so many doctors that find it difficult to get a place, to carry out their internships. And we have many Nigerian medical consultants abroad, whose expertise is badly needed here, locally. This hospital could have been a great example of Public-Private-Partnership (PPP), if only it was well-managed. Private hospitals like Lagoon, St. Nicholas and Reddington in Lagos, that do not have half of the facilities in Ibom Specialist Hospital, are thriving and doing well. So why can't this hospital be made to work?

Doctors find it difficult to get a place ? I doubt.
