Civil war is a different story just like that of BvS, simply hero fighting hero. Even Vulture in spiderman homecoming still emulate the point am trying to make. To me I will say Loki and Thanos is the top villains in MCU I truly admire.

If you noticed anything about Thanos, it is that he was bidding his time and making his play from the shadows. Do you know the reason?
Cosmic beings at a much better higher power level were still alive... Thanos couldn't have come out openly to execute his plan when Celestials like Odin and Ego were still alive and at the peak of their powers. They will simply roast him, because they were miles more powerful than Thanos. This is why Thanos had to wait till he has acquired a certain number of the Infinity stones to boost his power level.
Thanos with all six stones now is even more powerful than The Beyonders. In otherwords, the Avengers never and can never stand a chance against him, not at his current power level. Even Rune King Thor stands no chance, not to talk of this current Thor.

Superman can only struggle in a fight with entities far powerful than him... And let's be honest, they are few and mostly not from earth!
